This is our second time to San Diego and we wanted a hotel with a better view. The Inn at Sunset Cliffs is an amazing place! The view was spectacular, the staff are incredibly helpful and nice! They have on site equipment rentals which was extremely convenient. The room was clean and everyone was comfortable. ! Sunsets from this hotel are second to none!! I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone going to San Diego!! It was so hard to check out today but we will be back!

We had the 2 bedroom. It had a sitting room with fridge and microwave. They have a pool and a patio area with seating and a couple of tables overlooking the ocean. It's situated in a residential area, very safe and lots of places to visit within walking distance. We really enjoyed our stay. Katie at the front desk was great, she answered all of our questions. She even put up a "Happy Birthday" above our door, which was a sweet surprise. We will definitely be back.

5 Stars all of the Way! We stay here once a year for the past 10+ years and always look forward to coming back. Showers are super nice in the rooms and it’s a very comfortable vibe. The hotel being literally in the cliffs, the sunset views are mind blowing! Do not hesitate to stay here, book now if you are considering!

Great Location!! This hotel is located right on the ocean. If you go down to the courtyard there is tables to sit at with spectacular views of the ocean. The sunsets were beautiful. Easy to get on and off the highway from this location and a wonderful neighborhood feel. We stayed in a 2 bedroom with a kitchen with another couple. We shared the 1 very small bathroom with no fan for venting. There was a small window in the bathroom that we kept open all the time. The king size bed room was a nice size with 2 nightstands and a small closet. The queen size bed room was much smaller, with just 1 nightstand and a large walk in closet. The individual rooms did not have any air conditioning. There was a central unit in the living area. Both bedrooms were very hot at night which impacted our quality of sleep. They each had overhead fans which we used but it really did not help. The kitchen was very well equipped. The furniture was very dated and very worn. The love seat in the living area was very worn out. The shower stall looked very worn out. Overall the best part of this hotel was the location.

Check in was easy. Room was ready . The room we had was clean spacious and extremely comfortable. Location was excellent, right on the water and close to many restaurants and bars. The front desk was friendly and helpful when inquiring about where to get my morning coffee. Definitely would recommend this property .

This place is incredible. We got a small poolside room. It was very clean and well appointed. The staff was so kind and helpful. BUT the view!!!!!! OMG I could have sat there forever. We would absolutely stay here again in a heartbeat.

As a wedding photographer, I had a wonderful experience working with a lovely couple at this hotel. It provided a fantastic backdrop for their getting-ready photos, a romantic First Look, and fun wedding party shots. I also captured some playful moments of the groom and his groomsmen on the nearby bluffs. This hotel offers great versatility for pre-ceremony photography and I highly recommend it to couples, whether as a getting-ready location or for a romantic stay.

I traveled to San Diego for a mini staycation with my kids and this was such a great place to stay at. The heated pool was perfect. Katie was so helpful and friendly which really made the stay here even better. Overall I think it's a great place to stay.

Yelp
Our experience at Sunset Cliffs Inn was one of the most disappointing hotel stays we've ever had. What started as an inconvenient night turned into an outright unacceptable series of events that left us certain we will never return--and neither will anyone we know. First, the heating in our room was completely nonfunctional. Despite contacting the front desk, their attempt to solve the issue--a broken space heater--fell flat. Instead, they brought us extra bedding, but when we went to bed we discovered it was a mismatched combination of one comforter and a mattress pad. We tried to make the best of it, but the room remained freezing throughout the night and in the morning. In the morning, things took a turn for the worse. While getting ready to leave, I used a towel provided in the room only to have a giant ball of black hair fall out of it. It was disgusting and completely unacceptable for a hotel charging $300 a night. When we checked out, we shared our complaints with the front desk. The young woman working there was wonderful, sympathetic, apologetic, and initially offered to comp the room entirely. Her approach to customer service was great, and we left feeling that, despite everything, the effort to make things right might bring us back to try again in the future. As we returned to our cars in the parking area, we noticed toenail and fingernail clippings littering the ground next to our vehicle in their parking area which was also gross but we were willing to disregard. But the final insult came when we received a call on our way home. The same front desk employee who had promised to comp our stay called back, embarrassed and apologetic, to inform us that her manager had overruled her decision. Instead of a full refund, we were only offered a 50% discount. This sudden retraction felt like a slap in the face. Initially, we were willing to give the hotel another chance, but this bait-and-switch tactic sealed the deal--we will never stay here again. As locals, we frequently recommend accommodations to both to local and visiting friends and family. Sunset Cliffs Inn has lost not only our business but the trust and business of everyone we could have referred. This experience was beyond disappointing, and I would caution anyone considering staying here to think twice. Subpar maintenance, poor cleanliness, and unreliable customer service should never be part of a $300 hotel stay. Sunset Cliffs Inn failed on all fronts.

Yelp
We rented out the Inn at Sunset Cliffs for our wedding weekend 10/14/2023 from Friday to Sunday. Gina and Gavin plus the entire Inn at Sunset Cliffs family truly went above and beyond to help us have the most incredible wedding. From the planning stages early on, Gina helped us with vendor recommendations, staying on track with planning tasks, and building our day of timeline. She provided endless support and kept things organized throughout the entire process and especially throughout the wedding day. Being able to have all our friends and family stay onsite through the entire wedding weekend created the most intimate and memorable weekend. We hosted our wedding welcome event in the pool area the day before our wedding. The ceremony was held on the cliffs just south of the Inn with stunning views. Our reception was held on the property looking out onto the ocean. Being along the cliffs meant we got to have some of the most stunning ocean sunsets in October which made for the most amazing wedding photos. My now husband had the luxury of staying in the Presidential suite with the most stunning ocean views to wake up to on our wedding day. The property of the Inn is meticulously gardened with the most gorgeous rose bushes and landscaping. The Inn provided such a warm, inviting space to celebrate with our families and created everything we could have dreamed of for our wedding day. Even now over a year after our wedding we are still hearing from our family and friends how much they loved our wedding and staying at the Inn. We love that as San Diego locals we can walk along the cliffs now, pass by the Inn and always remember our wedding day! The Inn at Sunset Cliffs will always hold such a special place in our hearts and we can't wait to come back and stay for future anniversaries. Can't recommend more as a place to stay or host your wedding day!

Yelp
Just know... you are paying for the location. The room has no frills but it's clean. There's nothing like this inn- literally cliffside at what has always been, 100%, my most favorite spot in all of San Diego. This Inn has been around a long time and if you judge whether or not you'll stay based on the look of the building itself, you'd be making a mistake I think. I also think the only way to go if you DO stay, is to get the King Suite. That room is the most private and has its own window view to the ocean. To wake up like that was worth all the $$$.

Yelp
cool old school beach hotel vibe, awesome view of the ocean! I am giving this business a four-star review because the service was first class and the location was incredible. There are definitely some two and three star parts to this hotel though. Two stars for the mattresses. They were as hard as a rock and very uncomfortable. I would also give the HVAC two stars because only one room got any benefit from the air conditioning luckily it was a fairly cool day and it was not an issue. I might have to say the bathroom was a one star. The actual commode might have been one of the smallest toilets I have ever seen. An older person would definitely have a problem getting on and off of it. The swimming pool and patio area were incredible. I could have spent my entire trip sitting back there drinking coffee and just taking in the view. Even with the significant deficiencies I would definitely recommend this hotel and will be back.

Yelp
Cute hotel on beautiful setting. Rooms are very small but clean. The pool has no pool chairs and the outdoor furniture is pretty beat up. It is set right on the coast but unfortunately the sea wall is being rebuilt and it's very noisy all day every day of the week. The front staff is very helpful and friendly.

Yelp
We have been meaning to write this review for almost a year and it is LONG overdue. We had our DREAM wedding at the Inn at Sunset Cliffs. Almost a year later, we still hear from family and friends how it was one of the best weddings they have ever been to. We got married last October and had ~80 of our family and friends stay for the weekend at the Inn. The Inn was beautiful, cozy, welcoming, and just perfect for everyone to stay. Getting married just a block down from the Inn was gorgeous and made everything convenient. We also loved how we could pick out caterers and have everything in one place. The staff was also wonderful. We worked with Gina and Gavin before the wedding and they made everything a breeze. Gina was just the best at making sure things went smoothly and great suggestions along the planning process as well. The front desk staff were AMAZING as well, and truly felt like they were there to celebrate our marriage as well. The flexibility of the venue was right up our style and we could not be more thankful. THANK YOU INN AT SUNSET CLIFFS (sorry this review is so late). You made our dreams come true :) ~ Jess & Omeed

Yelp
Being from San Diego, we know the area and choose to stay here for most of our visits to the area. It is spendy, but you are paying for the location, location, location. The lower deck area was closed for construction, something that would have been nice for them to mention on the website. This is the first time we encountered cockroaches in the unit. We mentioned it to the staff who told housekeeping about it, but the little buggers were still there the next day. At over $400 a night, you might think some sort of accommodation would have been made for us, but nothing was offered. Sadly, we will probably look elsewhere for our next visit, especially if the cockroaches are still in residency. You still can't beat the sunsets at the cliffs !! Maybe off to La Jolla shores or Pacific Beach next time....!!

Yelp
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Inn at Sunset Cliffs. We had looked for a long time for a place with a pool and beautiful view of the ocean. We couldn't ask for a better place that included all of this. The room was very adequate, clean and nice. We had adequate parking space. When registering with them they gave us directions to their place that were very simple to follow. I know that we will return again. We would give them a 5 star review. The service and the location was incredible.

Yelp
This happened when I received the email from the Property Manager who name we will be addressing is Gavin Fleming today date is Sunday June 9,2024, My name is Sarah Vitalich I have a disability so please don't judge my writing or expressing myself I have Bio polar GAD General High Anxiety and borderline intellectual difficulty today Iam beyond disbelief in this man attitude he saw in my reservation always through hotel.com never calling the inn and yes there where cancellation made it ever I made some or cancel some I did my best to call in the guest services back when I did cancel I called at time to say review them if did I had a disability and cant come In or can but today when it was official that I could come in with other half we made the reservation again online for hotel.com we we for sure ok with date and would being coming in but I then review my email by Gavin Fleming who stated to many cancellations and my services will be declined he never met me we never got the chance ever to stay yet i could see if we messed up the hotel then make the request and as a manager he should be aware that people with disablity still have a right to stay via there or anywhere and when people make reservation he should know this theory that he hasn't met them yet so he dont know if they have a disability or financial difficulties but still want to stay there and he wrote my personal email didn't realize am disabled and have stayed at hotel all over the world and never before they met me to say my service is declined to stay here in the email he sent today so in hope they take discipline action and look into getting better managements and let him go and stay somewhere else while GAVIN FLEMING is the manager there inclosed Is proof of my disability notification from my doctor run far way when gavin is manager and stay elsewhere, Signed Sarah Vitalich today date is June 9, 2024

Yelp
Same as the prior review saying they can't get ahold of Gavin the manager to get information for a wedding. I called, left messages with the front desk, submitted their online contact request form, and emailed. Zero for customer service.

Yelp
Excellent location! A true gem. Love it there. Have stayed there 6 times. Customer service is superb. Shamus went out of his way to help us. A must go to.

Yelp
I loved the accommodations inside the room, the view was amazing but their stairs to the second floor were not ideal. It was rainy when we stayed and the stairs were slick and I lost my footing. No one addressed it or were concerned.
google avatar

Rebecca G.

Yelp
The guy at front desk was pretty nice as we checked in. But the reason for so little stars is due to "old soap", hairs left on "clean" towels and dead insects on ceiling. Will not be staying here again. And for the price they charge?? Forget about it. I'm more then sure you can find something else at or around the same price. I like to get what I deserve out of my monies worth, this place IS NOT IT.

Yelp
This was the most wonderful place ever! Very Clean everywhere, all of the people that work here are so sweet! The pool was awesome, the view and the waves splashing at sunset" amazing" the beds are super comfortable, full kitchen, I made Spaghetti, and garlic bread!

Maggie M.

Yelp
Cute place to stay! There's plenty of seating to watch the sunset and it was so pretty. The location is convenient. The reasons I did not give them 5 stars: The water pressure was weak. The room was pretty small and the walls are THIN- during the day it's like you're standing next to the pool and at night from the first floor you hear people walking etc above you. However, it was like a little beach house- all things we were willing to deal with for the experience. Luckily we were on the first floor because we had heavy luggage and I don't believe there was an elevator(?) Would absolutely stay here again!

Yelp
Clean and spacious rooms! Looking from outside, we couldn't believe this place is a real find! We had the best sunset and ocean view. The staff are awesome- courteous, friendly (and cute handsome college kids at that !) Housekeeper mamas are scrubbing and dabbing early in the morning- making sure everything is squeaky clean!

Yelp
Furniture was a bit outdated but other than that we enjoyed our stay after a long day of visiting the zoo. Staff was friendly, rooms were clean, the garden and lights were so pretty and you can't beat the ocean view. The Inn is within walking distance of local food joints and the liquor store across the street was super convenient! Falling asleep to the ocean waves crashing was also a nice touch.

Yelp
Been trying to get info on a wedding here, called three times and emailed, never got anything back. So I go to the property and tell them I'd like to speak to the wedding planner, guy comes out and tells me right away without introducing himself, "I only have 10 minutes" hahaha that makes me wanna get married here for sure... my reply was well I've been trying to get ahold of you for a month, which he said he's real busy lol what a joke. Next venue for sure. It was way over priced asking 40k for a wedding venue with faded blue walls, and unstable cliffs that they take there "wedding pictures on". It was literally closed by the city due to be un safe. I went to the dana which is a high class resort, they wanted 22k to 26k for the wedding and food, and reception. HOW IN THE HELL IS THIS PLACE ASKING ANYWHERE NEAR THE SAME PRICE, let alone starting out 10-15k more just starting out. I wouldn't leave a review on something like this, but this guy struck a nerve with me with his "I only have 10 minutes approach " that's not how you get customers dude. All I wanted to was a call back, or an email, gave them a month to get back to me after 3 attempts to get in contact, but I had to go to the property (which is fine, I don't mind driving to the beach) but was told too hurry up I only have ten minutes lol Acts like he's running the belagio in Vegas. Farthest thing from it.

Yelp
My now husband and I had planned to have our wedding at the Inn at Sunset Cliffs. The Inn and grounds are beautiful, intimate and have AMAZING views of the ocean. Unfortunately, like so many other couples, we had to cancel the wedding in May 2020 because of COVID-19. Prior to that, however, we had a great experience working with the Inn's wedding planner, Gina. She's very organized and detailed, but also laid back - the exact combination we were looking for in a wedding planner. On top of that, she was always available to us and happy to answer a call or schedule an impromptu meeting. When we had to cancel due to state and local COVID regulations, Gina helped us through the process and the Inn refunded half our deposit, also providing vouchers for my husband and I stay in the future. We would have loved to have had our wedding there, but the way the Inn and Gina handled the cancellation made it less painful. I would highly recommend booking your wedding here, if/when the COVID pandemic passes.

Yelp
Terrible!! Was thrown out on Christmas day during a rain storm. Dont show up with a pet. Even though they dont advertise they aren't pet friendly THEY AREN'T !! My puppy is a mutt..they said they cant have a mutt staying here.

Yelp
This place is disgusting. Within 15 minutes of checking in, we had to leave. There were mold spores in the room, rust on the fixtures, stains on the floors & walls, the toilet seat was scratched up like it belonged in a dive bar, and the broken shades provided zero privacy. Staff doesn't bother to wear masks either. Avoid at all costs. It's only a matter of time before they are shut down by the health department.

Yelp
Perfect day for a Wedding celebration !!! Oh I just LOVE weddings ! I was fortunate to witness the joining of two 'in love' newlyweds (Congrats Marianne and Ben!). I can see why they chose this site as their reception ! Love was definitely in the air! It's pretty close to what I envision as my 'ideal' wedding spot to look like. Outdoors and by the water ! Small and intimate with close family and friends. This location had just that and more. A beautiful, panoramic 180-degree ocean view with the scenic Ocean Beach pier in the background. Resembled a picture perfect painting from all angles! Fluffy, marshmallow clouds, baby blue skies, the sound of the calm waves and the smell of the ocean, with a touch of the crisp breeze blowing through you as the sun slowly sets. /sigh Nature was at work on this beautiful, magical day. What more could you ask for? The view alone was truly, truly BREATHTAKING ! Everyone was in awe of the view ! Picture taking frenzy throughout the day, especially by me ! Take a peek of the shots I took. Pictures don't do it justice though. You really have to enjoy this gorgeous site up close in person. Rooms are available if you decide to extend your stay. A nice, romantic getaway IMO. Note: I came super close to catching the bouquet. So..so CLOSE!

Yelp
If you like a semi fraternity party outside your $350 room rate, with meth parents letting their children run loose around the pool yelling.. then you've got the right hotel for you!! !! CPS should of been called but the Boy at the front desk said" well it is a holiday weekend" ... View was outstanding, but not for the family partying until the wee hours smoking outside your window! Hard pass!!!

Mrs W C.

Yelp
This hotel advertised fishing on the premises but that area has been closed down by the city since January 2019. They still have it up on their website when they had plenty of time to update it, my family and I specifically went there and chose that hotel for the fishing experience for our child. I totally would have picked another hotel if I knew that area was closed down. I feel very cheated and when i explained to them about the situation, they really could care less. I hope other families will see this post so they do t have the expectations as we did. It's a real bummer for the kids. It was decent with a great view but totally not what we expected and with the attitude of not caring that they disappointed me and my family really made it worse. The staff was nice but the management never got back to me. I went through booking.com and when they contacted the hotel, they said there's nothing they can do about it. Really?!? Not even an apology? Just too bad, so sad? That's very unprofessional when you're at fault. Oh well, first and the last.

Yelp
Overall I can't say enough great things about the staff. Staff is super friendly and great overall. Location was okay, its a bit far from downtown OB. price was okay. They do offer the Mobile cart shuttle; however it's only from 10am-6pm and Friday-Sunday and they charge for it. They do need to increase their days and times though because 10am is too late and 6pm is too early. We didn't use it at all because it just wasn't convenient. We had to drive everywhere since we had a baby also. They also had a large section of the back closed because of the damage on the cliffs. Fortunately we had ceiling fans in our room but other rooms did not and our friends definitely felt it. AC unit in the rooms which helped but it in all rooms. So the bedrooms can get a little hot. They do need an update on pool, Hotel exterior and assigned parking is limited. While it was nice to experience this place, I wouldn't stay here again simply because the inconvenience of location from downtown OB and options of restaurants.

Talena C.

Yelp
LOVED it here, beautiful and all around great vibes! Will definitely stay again when i'm in the area!

Patrice V.

Yelp
I was disappointed because the photos on the web page misrepresented the size of the rooms. Also the rooms are nothing like website decribed them. Sections where people gathered no longer assist. Staff was awesome. We were there for a wedding and we enjoyed the low maintenance from staff. With the exception of room size. The trip was good.!!!

Yelp
The Inn at Sunset Cliffs has some of the most beautiful views in all of San Diego! As the name implies, it's right on a cliff overlooking the blue Pacific. There is a large veranda that extends from the room area to let allow you closer to the water. If you get right up to the rail, you might just get splashed! Service is impressive. You won't find 5-star accommodations or fancy decor but you will be greeted by a cozy, right-at-home feeling. The staff is very attentive as well as friendly and genuine. Thank you, all, for all you do! I generally don't like outdoor-entry accommodations but I will gladly make an exception for The Inn!!

Yelp
I don't typically leave negative reviews, however, I feel that my entire experience with this establishment was so horrible, that I feel a duty to share my experience - and if i was able I would give them a zero or negative stars. ******P.S. THE PROPERTY NEXT DOOR - BEACHCLIFF VILLAS - IS MUCH NICER, ACTUALLY NEWLY RENOVATED (IN THE PAST COUPLE YEARS) AND THE MANAGER IS RESPONSIVE-those "villas" (or venue for a wedding) can be booked via contacting them on airbnb******* First issue: I originally attempted to book our weeding at this location with no luck. For almost two months after we got engaged, we stopped into this MOTEL every weekend (we live in the area and are in sunset cliffs ALL the time). Every weekend, I'd leave my contact info and would be told I'd get a call back. I never received a call back. Ever. We finally had to book a location, and knowing sunset cliffs was our location, we decided to contact the location next door, the Beachcliff Villas, and after seeing THAT location, talking with the manager (after only reaching out ONCE) and viewing the inside of the villas, i knew that we had found our location. So, i decided to book the presidential suite at the inn at sunset cliffs for our wedding night and let our families know that this hotel was next door. a couple months after we made our reservations and several family members made their reservations, my fiancé and i were hiking in sunset cliffs and received a disturbing phone call from a family friend that her reservation had been canceled. I proceeded to call the MOTEL and was told "major construction was scheduled for that week and the hotel had to be closed due to the noise". This immediately put me in a panic - i mean, I'm supposed to be getting married that weekend- next door! - and now there's major construction going on that i didn't know about?!?! I proceeded to spend HOURS on the phone contacting different city Public Works departments to figure out what was going on and whether it was going to impact out day or not so I could determine if we needed to change our wedding date and/or find a new venue (our save the dates had already gone out). VERY long story short, come to find out, after we had attempted to book this for our wedding venue for two months with no success, we - along with SEVERAL wedding guests, booked to stay at this MOTEL for the weekend just to get the reservations CANCELED because - low and behold, they booked another wedding! ........and canceled ALL of the individuals who had booked for our wedding due to "major construction" so, you tell me - where is the integrity in that? who does that? what kind of individual allows a couple to believe that there is major construction going on outside their wedding venue just so they can cancel their reservations to book another wedding - when the couple he is screwing over had originally wanted to book at his MOTEL ******i truly believe that everything happens for a reason - and we found a much more beautiful venue with an AMAZING manager, and absolutely beautiful rooms - so, honestly, we win. I urge those who do not know the area - or the people, to look into air bnb and book the property next door as it is less expensive, more up to date, and is managed much better***

Yelp
The view is what you pay for. The place needs SERIOUS cleaning and upgrading. The bed was so hard I was sore in the morning. The staff did honor my service dog situation and was polite. But all in all not worth $300+ a night !

Yelp
My wife and I spent two nights here for our first anniversary in the middle of May. We both fell in love with the property immediately and cannot wait to return. Pricing is more than reasonable considering it is a oceanfront property. Building itself is gorgeous and very well maintained. Roses, hibiscus and other flowers grow outside the rooms and their scent combines wonderfully with the salty air. A seaside patio area is available to guests complete with fire pits and comfortable couches, love seats and tables. We both took advantage of these late into the evenings. The wind/surf sounds at night were very soothing. The room we had was cozy, very comfortable and beautifully appointed. A pool is made available for guests in the courtyard but we did not take advantage of it. Though I will note it was kept meticulously clean. I'd like to extend a special thank you to Sunset Cliffs management for going above and beyond for us on our stay. They truly do care about their guests experience. Ocean Beach is a small area and anything you'd like to explore within town is easily in walking distance. There are great restaurants all over (breakfast, lunch and dinner), surf shops, loads of antiquing, outdoor festivals and live music. Fortunately, the Inn is just far enough from Newport Avenue that you shouldn't be disturbed by late night partying when you decide to pack it in. We had nothing but quiet during our stay. We will certainly be back to OB, and when we come back we will certainly book them again! Thanks! -Robert.

Yelp
I give this place 1 star only because I have to. First night here after everything going on.. trying to unwind. Put music on chillin after a long drive, 10pm comes and right away the people upstairs are complaining because they're kid couldn't go to sleep. Ok my little phone radio is that much of a disturbance? And I'm on fukn vacation 2. We get there and there a bent spoon that looks like it was used for heroine, 3. Iron broken, 4. Bed broken , loud af.. and annoying, 5. the worker was seen in the storage room coming high smelling like weed. He was even seen with his friend outside the front office. Very unprofessional, the view was nice, the walk to the cliff overlooking the beach.. beautiful. Only part I didn't enjoy was the staff , and room that wasn't worth the money we paid. I would not recommend this place.

Yelp
This place is despicable. Stay away! Trying to charge a cancellation fee for a stay in July that was for a now cancelled event due to the Corona Virus. Stay away from business like these that treat their customers this way!

Yelp
Found this place online and called to see if there was room, they had a room and were so friendly and accommodating over the phone. We arrived and it felt like family walking in to check in. All of my questions were addressed so professionally and also with a smile. We got a great room, updated, clean, right next to the patio space. I was impressed with the gated entry to the courtyard as well as the different levels of deck space to watch the waves. Very happy here for a pretty reasonable price.

Dishonest and unethical. We booked rooms for a wedding and they cancelled telling us renovations were going to be occurring during this weekend by the city. Not only was the city not conducting renovations, we discovered the reason for cancelling our reservations was that they had scheduled a wedding at their hotel. I asked for the owner or manager to call me and NEVER received the courtesy of a call. Unethical, dishonest people. DON'T BOOK HERE!!!!!!!!!

Yelp
I give the Inn 3 stars for the location and amazing views and that's it. It is sad that such a beautiful place is being "let go". Checking In was like checking into the local neighborhood motel. The young men greeting guest are polite but zero hospitality or excitement, just another day on the job. The landscape and all the birds were beautiful but the rose bushes need some love and pruning. The Halloween decorations out front were tacky. The hotel could use a facelift, lots of rust and old paint. The rooms are completely outdated, the furniture is old and stained, the bed was extremely noisy and the most uncomfortable bed I had ever slept in with pillows as flat as a pancake. The stairs leading to the lower level of the cliff are closed, and you can only stay in the upper view area of the cliff. The pictures on this website are pretty old, and the rates are pretty high for condition of this location. I can see the price being justified because of the location, amazing views and the priceless walks. Location A+ Cleanliness A+ Hospitality C Accommodations F

Yelp
Very cute inn. Had a downstairs pool view room. Newly remodeled. In very good condition. Courtyard is very well manicured with many lovely flowers. Enjoyed hanging out on the lower deck and relaxing with the sun in our face and waves in our ears. Less Than mile walk to Newport ave to enjoy the OB nightlife. Definitely recommend.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. The staff was friendly and the room was well maintained. Definitely not a high end hotel, but based on reviews I expected less and was pleasantly surprised. The views are amazing. I will be returning here.

Yelp
I'm not sure how it got such good reviews... I guess I got stuck in the worst room. I checked in kinda late after supercross on Feb 8th for $170 one night. The guy at the front desk had few words to say. Didn't say where to park or if there was breakfast... Nothing. I go to walk into the room and it's literally just a bed... Nothing else fits. And who's gonna use that tiny tv?! It's smaller than my computer screen. The early morning I was disturbed by people walking above non-stop. -this is the last thing you want staying in a hotel. Okay, the place was clean and the view/location was 5 star. That's the only 5 star about it. Oh AND the bed was a pos it was so squeaky I couldn't even roll over without it screeching at me.

Yelp
LOVED our stay here. I'm born and raised in San Diego and I never knew this place was here. I work at a bridal store and the Brides I helped told me they were having their wedding here, but I never took the time to actually look it up. Fast forward to a year later, and I was running through sunset cliffs and could see the beautiful view through their entrance doors. I was so interested in their rates and wanted to see more of the property. Because to be honest, it doesn't look like much from the front But man was I wrong. I ended up booking their "Upper King Suite" and it has AMAZING views. You are literally right over the water. It is a small property and there's a lot of personal maintenance, this is not a big corporate hotel with endless staff at your service and I think people need to be mindful of that when they are posting these harsh reviews. They have real roses everywhere that they hand trim and water to keep them healthy and beautiful, they all work together as a team to keep the place as nice as possible, everyone was super friendly. It's normal to not have everything perfect when first checking in or you need some extra towels. The place was build in the 1950s and they do a great job with the updates and keeping it welcoming. I will most definitely stay here again!

Yelp
Pictures on here do absolutely no justice for the Inn at sunset cliffs! My boyfriend and I travel often and we're both in awe at the view from the hotel. We walked down sunset cliffs park trail, walked to nearby restaurants, and took Bird Scooters to Ocean beach. In the morning, we cooked in our kitchenette, and had breakfast in the outdoor tables the Inn provided, right in front of the ocean. The price you definitely can't beat either!

Yelp
You can't beat the sound of the waves crashing in on the scenic cliffs, and the hotel is the perfect place to relax and watch a sunset or two. We spent two nights, and did what other guests were doing, enjoying a picnic, bbq or fire pit, with a bottle of wine and beers out on the scenic patio on their comfy deck furniture and watched the sunset show. The front desk person was very helpful. He pointed out parking, coffee and tea in the lobby, free wifi, and ice machine, swimming pool and towels. Even the smallest rooms downstairs have a fridge, microwave, a/c and all room have new flooring, updated decor and tile bathrooms, with nice bedding, and my favorite-coffee mugs and wine glasses, not plastic cups. The grounds are loaded with flowering plants and hanging baskets. First floor rooms may be noisy from people walking overhead, but the 5 star location and crashing waves offset it. We walked to a restaurant less than a half mile on Sunset Cliffs Drive and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Yelp
Had the perfect stay at the inn at sunset cliffs! The staff was very welcoming and accommodating to any request we had. We we're surprised to find out we were even able to fish right off their lower terrace. The sunsets we're beautiful, we even got some glimpses of dolphins in the distance. We stayed in a one bedroom kitchen suite which was very clean and comforting, felt like we were staying in a little cottage. It was nice being able to cook out freshly caught fish and LOBSTERS right in our room or on the provided grill/BBQ. The property also has a heated swimming pool. We were very pleased with the tranquil and romantic atmosphere while on our vacation to San Diego! We will be recommending this hotel and coming back again!

Yelp
Fantastic location - right on the cliffs, ocean views, waves crashing, pelicans flying all around. They've done a really nice job landscaping, with tons of flowers, potted plants and rose bushes. A simple pool (heated) in the courtyard. Wish they had a jacuzzi! Service was very friendly and welcoming. We stayed for one night for our anniversary in a 2-bedroom suite - 2 small bedrooms, living room, desk, and mini-fridge, microwave and coffee maker. Some ocean view from the living room and bedroom windows. We had a really nice stay. Enjoyed taking a dip in the pool, and hanging out on the ocean view patio, playing games, enjoying a glass of wine in the evening, an cup of coffee in the morning. We got a gift certificate for the room at a silent auction, but otherwise, $289/night + tax; pretty pricey. But, location, location, location. Free yoga for guests on the deck overlooking the guests Thursday night ($14 for non-guests). They had a big turnout last night. Might have to come back and check it out. Slept to the sound of the crashing waves (actually, didn't sleep too much - our bed was not comfortable; wish I'd tried out the one in the other room; it was much better). But overall, a very relaxing stay. Would definitely recommend it, especially for couples.

Yelp
Don't be alarmed when you pull up like I was. Any hesitation whatsoever is relieved the moment you step foot in the lobby and then behind the gate to the view. The rooms are comfortable, clean and quaint. The mattresses could be more comfortable and the rooms are really bright but it didn't matter. The view is fantastic here. I love staying here. My only complaint was the third night there was a patio that was loud. The group had been on the patio drinking since about 10:00am so, as you can imagine, by 11:00pm it had gotten quite loud. I did contact the office, who said they'd shut it down, but when they did the party just went upstairs and directly above me until 3:30am or so. That was a total bummer but otherwise my stay here was wonderful.

Yelp
I have stayed here several times, my family used to get a room for a month every July or August to escape the Phoenix heat, now that they have stopped that I still make it out every so often. As stated before the main draw here are the views. Incredible patios where you feel like you are hanging over the edge of the cliffs as the waves pour in and crash against the rocky shores below. One patio has a Plexiglas shield up to protect you from the sea spray and mist from the waves below. If you are the beach going type, this isn't your place, but if you are the kick back for hours on the patio drinking your favorite beer or cocktail as the sun sets and you watch the boats roll by like something out of a Jimmy Buffet song or Corona commercial, this is your place. There are several shops for food, coffee, laundry, etc within walking distance, and if you are a runner there is a path going along the road that provides fantastic ocean views both ways. It can be a bit pricey, but if you want to get away and totally relax, this is your place.

Yelp
The Inn did a wonderful job with my daughter's wedding this past weekend. Highly recommended. The only reason I didn't give five stars is that weather has destroyed the steps to the beach so there's no direct access. Hopefully they'll fix that soon. But as far as the wedding, it was a beautiful setting and it was great to have the whole place to ourselves.

Yelp
I can't say I have really ever stayed here although it is a beautiful spot located right at the start of the Sunset Cliffs drive. I went to check it out for a Reader story on how the hotel is being sued by an environmental group for code compliance violations. Apparently, the cement area where they hold wedding ceremonies is built out on a seawall that is technically on Coastal property. Before Yelp advertisers go getting their feathers ruffled, and "flag" this Yelp, I think they should think otherwise because I just adore this little Inn and am very impressed by how nice it is. I heartily recommend it and this just comes from walking around, taking pictures and poking my head into some of the rooms being cleaned. The front desk staff was very courteous and helpful. They handed me fliers on weddings and even though you have to reserve the entire place (all 24 rooms) in order to book a wedding party, it is well worth it, IF you have the money to afford it. If cost was no criteria to consider, I would so have a destination wedding at the Inn at Sunset Cliffs. Though the hotel package does not include food, catering, DJs and other extras, who cares if the panoramic Pacific, swooping pelicans and seagulls, and surfers are part of the wedding party? The small pool in the interior is screened by glass walls and that is probably a good idea because the locale is breezy and windswept but again, that is part of the charm. Walking down the steps to the wedding area that is in legal contention, I was struck how I could look due north and see directly to my fav summer hangout-Bermuda Beach. The concrete patio that is where ceremonies are held really was no great shakes-the day I was there it was wet and the plants around it looked in need of some fertilizer. However, despite all the legal mumbo-jumbo swirling around this place, I would hasten to add, that if I were to be a bride soon and my daddy had a lot of money, I would book a wedding here post haste and take advantage of what may soon be a beautiful cliff-side hitching post disappearing soon. Inn at Sunset Cliffs: no need to flag this Yelp!

Yelp
Staff lacks hospitality. Place needs severe renovations as the patio area over looking the ocean is closed off and it looks dilapidated, walls in bedroom are extremely thin- I can hear everything going on from my neighbor upstairs and each foot step they take. Price isn't worth it, will not be returning.
