When I booked this room online it stated under amenities, air conditioning. Unfortunately, when we checked in, we were told there was no air conditioning in the hotel. When we got up to our room, all the outlets in there were so old that if you try to plug something in, it would just fall out of the receptacle. There were a few in there that did work but not in the location that was needed. We had to keep fans on and window open. The gal that checked us in was helpful. We stayed 3 nights and sleeping was miserable because it was so hot in the room. The only thing I can say is that the rooms were very clean. The Cafe downstairs was also very good and nice ambience.

Although the location is ideal for out-of-state patients needing the Virginia Mason facilities, the cost of the room was way over-priced for this low quality establishment. Sadly, there is no airport shuttle and the $3 one-way Light Rail is about 8 blocks away…. Too far to walk lugging a suitcase if one has any kind of mobility-health issues. Taxi cost me $55-$60 one way. There are a variety of small food establishments within walking a block or two, but one needs to be aware of their limited hours of operation. (Plan to walk up and down hills, if you are able to walk.) The hotel is in serious need of remodeling and maintenance. One cannot obviously see this from the pleasant lobby, but you start to get the hint once you enter the small elevator to the rooms above. Although they provided two clean portable, plug-in fans, be aware there is NO air conditioning. The maintenance man kindly checked the zone valve to make sure it was indeed working correctly. I was very grateful the small, newer vinyl windows worked well, but screens were missing on one and torn on another. The heat made sleeping very difficult. Outside temp was in the upper 80’s while I was there. I was not able to get the room temp down below 88 degrees the first night. Managed 78 the next night. (I usually sleep at 68.) I had to tie the curtains back with a plastic grocery bag to safely put the fan on the ledge directly in front of the window. The room furnishings were old and scuffed, showing signs of many years of use. (Style was reminiscent of the mid 1970’s.) There was a scant 12” between the foot of the bed and the dresser on the opposite wall, but otherwise the space was adequate. I have to mention the very thin walls, as the adjacent room’s conversations were very clearly heard. (Caution: Don’t say confidential things in your room.) Bring your own ear plugs as the ambulance sirens are very audible (unfortunately throughout the night). Sink drain was missing/broken so I had to be careful not to lose anything if it were dropped in the sink. Duck tape and ? (maybe painted cardboard) covered a hole in the bathtub wall. Maintenance man was very courteous and helpful, although probably way overworked, as my two separate requests to replace the burnt-out light bulb in the lamp did not get resolved. I was pleased to see the carpet looked fairly clean. Ceiling pipe cover between bed and windows had severe peeling paint. I sure hope there is not asbestos in that old flaking-off paint! I’m happy to say the bed was clean and comfortable. No obvious signs of bedbugs that I could see. They have a small rooftop patio on the 9th floor, which was nice. Not much of a view, but a decent outdoor place to sit and read a book. I think more comfortable chairs and a few taller plants up there would enhance the space. The young front desk employees were a mixed bag: one had a less than professional attitude - begrudgingly offering the very bare minimum of assistance, while another seemed to be kind and happy to be of help. The small bar area where one can get an evening snack/small meal from the gracious RHO staff was greatly appreciated. I would not call it a restaurant. It was a place to relax after a day full of busy medical appointments. The narrow patio outside the back of the pleasant lobby was charming, although the loud buzz and humming noise from adjacent mechanical and electrical things, hemmed in by all the connected tall buildings, somewhat overwhelmed the lovely bistro tables and beautiful hydrangeas. Once they get some of these things addressed I think it will be a nice place to stay for those needing close proximity to the Virginia Mason hospital. You can even get to the main hospital lobby through a short, somewhat winding hallway and a small elevator. If you have a car, however, I’d seriously consider choosing someplace else.

Arrived early 1:30 and was told that the rooms isn’t available until 4pm by a very unhappy female front desk employee…I said that could she check and see if anything was possibly open or perhaps sooner she rudely said no not until 4 pm. So we waited in the lobby and people were getting checked in and then a fellow on the front desk looked over and said what’s your name again and checked us in.It appears this room had been available for some time. Wouldn’t consider staying there again……Room was hot and noise from large air conditioning from the hospital….so keep window closed….

Fabulous stay! We arrived very late so I wish we would have know about the cafe before we left! We only had a brief stay but if was perfect! Will stay again to enjoy the beautiful Rhododendron terrace!

I gave it a four star rating because there is always room for improvement. I was expecting 2 star hotel and was delightfully surprised. From reception to service to location, it has worked out perfectly for us. Virginia Mason Hospital is literally next door. Parking on Terry at Spring, lot in middle of block.

I stayed at this hotel for four nights due to a family member in the hospital next door. The hotel is located right next to the emergency room. That entrance and exit is always open. During the day there is an elevator you can take from the hotel to the hospital. |The room I had was just fine. The hotel is older and there is wear and tear. Everything was clean and they have daily housekeeping. I could open the windows a little bit but only one had a screen on it. A box fan was provided which helped cool the room. I would probably be reluctant to stay here in the summer months due to a lack of air conditioning. |Everyone I encountered at the front desk was polite.

I was a guest at this hotel during late May, 2025 for 10 nights. I arrived early for check-in, at 2:30pm instead of 4:00pm. Thankfully, room 705 was ready so the front of staff were able to kindly provide me with a key for access. There were lifts available in the building so getting to the room was easy and straightforward. The room was relatively clean, comfortable, and there were windows that could be opened for fresh air. The first 4 nights were great and comfortable. Had they continued, I would have offered a much higher rating. However, on the 5th night I discovered a small insect crawling on my pillow when getting ready for bed. I did not think much of it, so collected it inside a tissue and threw it in the bin. The next morning when leaving my room to go out, I discovered 6 more of those insects. At which point after consulting with Grok and ChatGPT, came to the realisation that these insects were bed bugs. I collected them in a plastic deposable cup and left them on the bedside table for later query with hotel staff. On return to the hotel, I raised the issue with front of staff, who immediately, and commendably, started raising the necessary flags for the issue to be resolved. A person accompanied me to my room, collected my plastic cup of bugs, and then went away to report. Shortly afterwards a lady accompanied by a gentleman identifying themselves as management, offered to compensate and do whatever to make things right. I rejected the compensation as the stay was going so well, this was my first experience with bed bugs in my life, and from what I had read, bed bugs do not transmit diseases to humans. Instead I just asked for the room to be deep cleaned and for my clothes to be laundered, as per precautionary instructions from Grok/ChatGPT. I then left the hotel and made my way to Target to get some further precautionary supplies like zip lock bags and 70% isopropyl alcohol wipes. On return to my room, everything had been cleaned, checking the bed showed no signs of any bugs, and shortly after, my laundry arrived cleaned as well. Later that evening I also received an apology letter and the offer of a complementary meal in the hotel restaurant. An absolutely perfect response. I then cleaned all my bags with the wipes, raised them off the floor, and on to the high round table in the room, away from any fabrics. Then ziplocked all of my laundered clothing. However, the next morning, 4 more bugs were found on the bed. I reported it again to the front desk and also requested for my bathroom amenities to be topped up. This time however, the response was lacking. I heard back from no one. After leaving the hotel for a couple of hours to give the cleaning team to do their thing and arriving back to my room. Noticed all the bedsheets had been stripped away with just a mattress protector and the bathroom amenities had not been topped. Feeling dejected, I made no further requests, did not go the hotel restaurant for a meal, and spent my remaining nights sleeping on top of the mattress protector. However, thankfully, no more bed bugs. On return back home, I noticed my upper arms and areas around my ankles were covered in several red bites. About a week later these have now subsided and darkened. Furthermore, thanks to the use of the zip lock bags and wipes, no bugs came back home... as far as I can tell. Note: this was both a business/holiday trip - google map reviews, at the time of writing, do not allow for the selecting of both options.

I opted to stay in this hotel based on the location. For the price, I expected this hotel to be comfortable. I was looking forward to staying in this historic building. Unfortunately, my 6 night stay for business was a very unpleasant experience. I have stayed in historic hotels before and they can be very charming and quite beautiful. This one was run down, dingy and depressing. The front desk staff were unfriendly and unhelpful. I could not get a washcloth because they "ran out"...for 6 days. The benefit of this hotel would be its literal physical attachment to Virginia Mason Hospital. For loved ones of patients needing services at Virginia Mason, you could not get a closer or more convenient location. That being said, if I had a loved at Virginia Mason the least of my concerns would be my sleeping accommodations. I hope they give a steep discount to Virginia Mason patients/families/loved ones because those individuals should not have to pay 'sticker price' for this hotel. It serves the purpose for a close, safe hotel for Virginia Mason services.

Yelp
This is a very nice place to stay in Seattle. It's iconic in architecture and design. I got a The staff is very friendly and welcoming.

Yelp
There's no air conditioning and we had one box fan for a big room so we had to take turns. My Cocoa butter lotion melted that's how hot it was in our room. It melted all over. We had no door knob for the bathroom so we had to put her finger through the hole to open and close the bathroom door. Their vending machines were out of order. Then the guy at the lobby desk gave us a key card to get into the building across the street to use the vending machines and those vending machines stole our money and we got nothing. Complained about it and was told that's too bad. Do not recommend.

Yelp
Really out of the way hotel. It's next to an emergency room so there's that. At least I think there's a Starbucks in the ER next door. The room itself is perfectly acceptable. Just aged. Bathroom fine. Weirdly large closet which is unusual. The shower shampoo and soap smelled unusually good and that was a plus. Bathroom door traps you in. Old building. No AC. When we arrived it was 83 degrees in our room - we arrived at 10:30 at night. They just don't have AC. You are presented with a choice: close your windows and suffer the heat or open them and listen to the hospital drone of HVAC constantly but feel slightly cooler. The sound is like sleeping on an airplane. So hey if you like sleeping in a sweat box this is your place.

Yelp
The Inn at Virginia Mason was suggested (by brochures given to us by medical staff at Virginia Mason Hosoital) as a hotel for those patients who were having surgery at the adjoining Virginia Mason Hospital. It is old and shabby with no amenities. Bed was hard, towels were old and fraying but that wasn't the worst. There is no onsite parking available. If you are disabled, do not stay here. There are no ramps for wheelchair access and no bellman to help you up the stairs or with your bags. IT IS NOT ADA ASSESSABLE and should never be recommended by the hospital! Front office person was very rude and refused to help me up the stairs or with my bags. Not a good choice at all. We should have stayed at the Sheraton and called an Uber to take us to our scheduled surgery. Lesson learned!

Yelp
The Inn at Virginia Mason feels like an in-laws house, who invite you to stay, but not for too long. I believe this hotel is used primarily due to its proximity to the medical facilities here. For me, it was one of the few hotels in this neighborhood that could be found for under $200 a night. Their website touts that they are a historic hotel, and that is certainly notable during your stay. Cool old hardware adorns the doors, certain architectural choices are remnant from the early 1900s for better or worse, etc. Their website also highlights their 32 inch flatscreen TVs, overhead cooling systems, and complimentary Wi-Fi. I'll tell you now that a 32 inch TV is not very big - I felt like I was in that "Dinner Party" episode of The Office where Michael installs a tiny TV. Also, the AC did not appear to be working, at least not significantly. And the Wi-Fi was unbelievably slow. My room had a strange layout, with two VERY large closets. The attached bathroom had some mold on the piping insulation, and some gunk buildup in the shower. The bed was comfortable enough, the furniture was fine, it was an okay stay but not luxurious by any means. The staff was great. But if you compliment my overalls, I'm likely to say that about you regardless of our other interactions. Just kidding, they were actually helpful and efficient! Parking is in a nearby garage for $20/night. However it is up/down a super steep hill so be ready to get a quick cardio workout in. Overall, if you're looking for a budget stay or need to be near the hospital, this is a fitting option.

Yelp
Where to begin... check in was frustrating, make sure whom ever is listed on reservations is the one checking in. ***note This hotel has NO AC, one window in our room was not operational, they do provide a box fan. Bathroom door didn't shut (knob just turned), towels are thin and scritchy, mattress was hard as a rock and thin. And the WiFi is ridiculous- not secure and kept getting booted off. No way you can work from this hotel. They do have a fridge and a lounge chair and coffee maker and a lovely view from the roof top patio. Upon Check out, our in laws card was charged for our room- which was not the card that was given when checking in. Good thing we checked before getting on the road.

Yelp
This hotel ruined my entire weekend trip. The heater was broken and was pushing out hot air. It was 95 degrees and my mother and I couldn't sleep through the night. Funnily enough, we came here from Sacramento to escape the heat. The staff was incredibly rude and wasn't helpful whatsoever. We booked two nights, and it's not even clear that we'll get a refund. I'll post my updates as I get them!

Yelp
We stayed in the smallest room with 2 beds. While the beds were comfortable, the room was uncomfortably small... the smallest hotel room I've ever stayed in. The staff was very nice though. There is no air-conditioning but there was a box fan. Small blocks of wood screwed into the window sashes prevented the windows from opening more than 3 inches. It was too warm. The toilet seat was so loose we almost slid off the seat, so I took the time to repair it. The shower/tub did not drain well, causing us to stand in 5 inches of water while showering. I let the front desk know. We left soon after, so I don't know if that was remedied. One of the main reasons I chose this hotel was its proximity to the Harbor View Medical Center, and the fact that a lovely restaurant is advertised on the hotel premises, BUT the restaurant has been closed for 2 years. We used DoorDash for food delivery. The whole entry, lobby, and hallways would benefit from higher wattage bulbs, as it was uncomfortably dark. While the staff kindly allowed us to check out earlier than our reservation was booked for, I would not recommend this hotel if you're staying in one of the more "affordable" rooms.

Yelp
Came up to Seattle for the 49ers games stayed here about 3 days . The room was cool nothing real fancy just got the job done . It was very quite and being that it was a old building it didn't make any noise. They beds were very comfortable and the room was very clean. Oh and the view on the roof was nice too! Made a real nice spot to drink coffee in the morning. Parking was horrible spent about 20 min looking for parking in the area each day and would park blocks away.

Joseph D.

Yelp
There is no functional air conditioning in any of the hotel rooms which would have been nice to know so i could have chosen a different hotel. I had to use the provided box fans to prop open the windows which allowed the very nice smell of Pot into the room. The Wi-Fi is decent I guess but overall, don't go here. Find a hotel with air conditioning. Front desk staff was nice but that's about the only nice thing I can say about this place.

Yelp
This is a very pleasant hotel. I felt it was priced a little higher than I'd have liked, but that's Seattle for you. I love the history of this hotel, and they were very nice and the rooms were spectacular. I would definitely stay again. And highly recommend that you stay here as well. We were even able to order a dessert from the cafe at the hotel. Which was very good. Be warned though, the skillet cookie is very small and doesn't come with Ice Cream. Not a problem for us because it was delicious, but if you're getting your hopes up for a big cookie and ice cream it won't happen. So, just enjoy what it is and don't worry about what it isn't. Other than that, I really loved the set up of the room, very spacious and cozy. 5/5 is my final rating after all is considered.

Yelp
The following was my review before this update . I see they charged me $128.00 for the room plus a $50 charge that they will credit back to my card. No one told me this when I made my reservation. Was told $110 includes tax. They also charged my card twice then credited it back. Not happy about the hidden charge I'm not told about that supposedly I'll get back....in a few days I suppose. They need to train the front desk how to be straight up about the final cost. I live off social security because of my disability. I'm a cancer survivor. I still say it's a bargain but wtf. Here is my review prior to this nonsense: I had surgery the next day at Virginia Mason and had stayed at the other one they run ( The Baroness) two years before. The Baroness was okay. At the time the tv was older and no cable, carpets old. Not in best of shape. This year I booked The Inn for a double room and they gave me #602. Price was $110 including tax for one person. The room was on the inside facing the hospital but no big deal. I wasn't there for a view but perhaps the outside rooms may have one being that there are 8 floors.I was very impressed! Seems they did a redo of the place with new furniture, freshly new bedding and a flat screen tv with cable. There was a walk in closet the size of a small room. Charming old building but redone with modern decor. There is no air conditioner but a box fan is in the closet. You rarely need an air conditioner in Seattle. There is also micro and fridge, coffeemaker. Ironing board and iron. And what I need most.....peace and quiet! The walls are thin but the couple next door were quiet enough and silent after 8 pm. I assume perhaps there for same reason I was. That's another reason to like this place I would say not much riff raff goes on or is tolerated. I wasn't going to write a review because I want to keep this place this place my secret! But if you're need of a place to stay and business at Virginia Mason this is the place.

Yelp
This is the second time I've stayed here in 2 years. The first time in 2019 was ok. I couldn't really complain about much, except no fridge or microwave. This time, 11/21, I see they've made quite a few upgrades. Including fridge and microwave in our room. The staff is very helpful. I would recommend this hotel. Regarding the comments about A/C, come in the cooler months and you'll never even notice. the rooftop is nice with excellent views.

Michael H.

Yelp
Nothing the offer on their Website is true. The Offer a Restaurant and Bar. Not TRUE!! Closed for Remodeling. Their Site offers "DAILY HOUSEKEEPING". True...Kinda...you have to request it a day in ADVANCE!! There is no AC...there is a Box Fan. And the Front Desks is rude and Apparently no clue how the Hospitality Industry works. It's a Old Hotel. Clean...yes. Quiet. Yes. Close to everything yes. But for 200 a Night (cheap for Seattle) I could have gotten better at a Extended Stay for 1/2 the cost!!

Yelp
Normally when I come to hotels on vacation I'm normally there to just sleep and change. This hotel could've been better in a lot of ways. It was probably the cheapest one I found that was close to everything in Seattle, close to all the fun places. I'll break it down by detail and average them out. The room had things you could ask for: a TV, fridge, microwave, and a coffee maker, along with a bathroom. The bed itself was really great for one person and they did turn it down each day I was out. However, the walls and the decor of the room weren't so pleasant. Over by the window, there was a chipped wall that looked like it hadn't been fixed in about a decade. It was sort of like something was making the room fall apart. I just felt a little uncomfortable with some minor damage in the room. The housekeeping was pretty frequent in coming around every room each day to check on guests. They were at my door every day asking if I need any service. They were nice to offer me some new towels and wash cloths. Like I said, they turned my bed down every day. I just sort of wish they offered some free breakfast with the stay, but they do have a restaurant that's open for all three meals. It isn't complementary, however. Overall, this hotel does have free WiFi with the stay, and offers many TV channels if you want to just have a day to relax. There is a charge of about $25 or so a day to park your vehicle, and no valet parking. I would think since it is a hotel close to a hospital it would be a little more generous with a thing like that, but I didn't have a vehicle while on this trip. I might come back and give it another try. The only negative things I found were the poorly chipped walls and absence of free breakfast. Had a somewhat pleasant stay here though.

Yelp
Quaint older classic clean close to downtown & convention center. 30 min walk to stadiums. Safe. Near hospital.

Yelp
The main elevator has been out of commit for over a year. Website should say there is no longer a cafe.

Yelp
Super low end accommodations, especially given the price. Seriously. The mirror over the sink? Yeah, on the wall behind me. Above the sink? A window -- half covered with the fan. Paint peeling and chipped everywhere. Exposed drain pipes. Room 301. Dude . . . Unless you have to stay here because of the hospital, you're way better off elsewhere. Especially for the money.

Yelp
This hotel was beyond a total disappointment. In all my years of traveling, I have never experienced staying in such a dilapidated and filthy room, and the fact that it's attached to a hospital makes that even worse. The staff was practically nonexistent, so there was no point in even trying to find someone to complain to (when we had gotten a hold of someone on the phone to ask for utensils, they said they'd be right up but never showed). I found myself so disgusted with the state of the room and it's filth/mold that I took several photos to share with the booking website and the hotel as well. However, Yelp is probably the best way to review anyways. The room service was from the hospital. The Wi-fi was terrible and worked less than 10% of our stay. There was no air in the room and the windows opened about 4 or 5 inches (made for a hot five days in Seattle with temps reaching mid 80's). Regarding the price, it was a good deal in comparison to other hotels closer to downtown. However, the walk is directly up steep hills (almost unbearable when carrying luggage in the heat) and the absolute FILTH proved that we would have been better off at a Motel 6. For that, I am marking this room as Pricey.

Yelp
"Modern, clean, sleek" (eyes wide but glazed) Say it, "Modern clean sleek" (eyes rolling back in your head) "moderncleansleek" foaming at the mouth "MODERNCLEANSLEEK" (good thing the medical center is next door!) You know you were an HGTV junkie at one point when you start reciting the mantra: We want something, you know..."modern, clean"(look around the room)... "sleek." It's an attractive design style, but there are others. The Inn at Virginia Mason is not "modem" and "sleek" but it's "clean" as in "tidy." Granted, you aren't moving in here but I find that people tend to prefer accommodations that are familiar, especially when staying in a city and if you are mouthing those three words all the time, you will look at this place and snub your nose. And that's fine, tons of "modern, clean, sleek" everywhere, but I love finding a little corner of something that is traditional and has the charisma that only an older building, preserved with some of the era-features can offer. Like: - pedestal sink in bathroom and retro tile in the bath - little hook latches on cabinet doors - time-period furniture complete with an alarm clock that ticks (bells on top) at the bedside - glass doorknobs But without sacrificing amenities: - flat screen tv - nice offering of bath products, surprisingly - comfortable bed And even GAINING amenities: - OPEN fridge! (not jammed with what the hotel is hocking at at 250% mark up) - microwave - bedside swivel!! task lighting plus plug-in to lamp (I recently did some crawling around at a "modern, clean, sleek" property to switch the one lamp with a plug-in to my bedside so I know about this) Two disclosures: One, I was upgraded to a queen room (from two twins) (thank you very much) on the 7th floor and Two, I lived in a building much like this in Chicago's Gold Coast, once upon a time, and this little brand of "apartment" is still close to my heart. I see its beauty and I associate it with "city" as much as I do a more modern hotel/apartment. I love the warmth and charm of a place like this as well as the people downstairs who make it feel like the doorman did in Chicago - like home! The gentlemen working here were very kind and hospitable. Couple other items: * no resto on site but who eats at hotel resto anyway? * there are dining tables and a sunny patio and a grandfather clock down in the reception area * there was, I swear a room service menu though, so call and ask if this is important to you * I'll call it a "clean" location also as in a straight shot to many desirable locations, for example, waterfront. (I walked as well as took the Metro, "University" is the stop.) * the walk IS a hill, and if you come from waterfront - up Seneca, it's less steep! (Seneca to Boren, back to Spring and that's the Inn entrance) * there is parking at two nearby garages * the elevators are smallish (I'm always a stair person myself) and the stairway here is wind-y! (Which was a trip because in that old Chicago building I'd mentioned, it was the same!!) You may get dizzy if you're fast!

Yelp
This is an old hotel. Carpet is old, furniture is old. Air conditioning barely works. Lights flicker when you plug something in. Literally, they make a noise and flicker. Kids say this was the hotel they used to model California Adventures Tower of Terror ride. The vintage is about right. If staff were friendly that would be something; but they are not. It's downtown Seattle and they have no coffee in the lobby in the morning. And it shows. Everyone seems to have a look on their face that says "I wish I was somewhere else". I would get online and look for another place, but the WiFi is nonfunctional. Oh, AND THEY HAVE NO PARKING. How is that supposed to work?!

Yelp
So due to my wife's surgery, it only made sense to stay at this place as it is convenient to the hospital. I think that is the draw to this place..and the price. Now I know why. A little backstory..we arrived on a Sunday evening (8:40 p.m.) only because the ferry service had cancelled a few sailings from our side of the world. Finally got to "The Inn" and was looking forward to a decent meal as I had seen the menu posted on their website and looked interesting. We were seated and given the "late night" menu which consisted of fries and sandwiches! I was told they stopped serving dinner at 8:30 p.m. (Refer to the movie "Falling down" and the restaurant scene now..). I settled for my sandwich as I was now hostage on a Sunday night. Made it to the "room" and found it to be cramped for four of us..even with two queen beds. The "cooling unit" we were told about was a Wal-mart floor fan that I found in the walk-in closet...and by walk-in closet I mean a room nearly as big as the room with the beds! At least the hallway had air conditioning. I tried to open the windows but discovered a block nailed into the frame stopped me at 3 inches...I assume to keep guests from leaping to their deaths onto the outdoor patio below which was becoming a more pleasant thought than the sweltering room in August. But wait!..there's more! The bathroom toilet was an amusement ride minus the coin slot. You would sit and it would move..kinda like it was not bolted..to anything! The power outlets from the "Roaring 20's" were "tricky" unless you had a large bag to brace up against to keep your appliance from becoming unplugged...you know ..like the device keeping your wife from getting blood clots during recovery. I did appreciate the restaurant putting fruit and fennel in everything and then bumping up the price..classy! ...check out was a breeze when we found out the hotel charged us twice for two nights! The "lady" behind the counter tried to explain banking to my wife...who is a banker. Did not know stand-up comedians were part of the service. Lastly, if the local hostel's are filled up downtown, maybe see if there is a room at this place....

Yelp
This place was so cute. The staff was very friendly and even upgraded our room! The room was very comfortable and clean. There's a rough hill if you're walking to the location and there aren't many convenient stores around but vending machines in the lobby take care of any late night snacking needs! The price was very affordable for the proximity to downtown. Checked in for the women's march and was able to leave my bags at the hotel for the day so I wouldn't have to carry them. Great for a weekend getaway!

Yelp
When visiting Seattle for a conference at the convention center, my husband and I stayed here for 3 nights. I am typically kind of a snob about hotels while my husband is the complete opposite. If I were booking our room, I would probably have never stayed here, but I have to admit it was a very charming and comfortable stay! The Inn is in a great location. Obviously it is very close (pretty much connected to) the hospital. You will encounter quite a bit of people who are staying there due to the proximity to the hospital. However, I thought that the location was very central to many sites. Only 10 minutes or less to the Space Needle and a 20-25 minute easy walk to Pike Place Market. I also ventured around the neighborhood a little and there are coffee shops, places to eat, drug stores in case you forgot to pack something, etc. I felt safe walking around the area in the day but mostly ubered at night. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. I needed a face towel and when I called down to reception someone brought one up within a couple minutes. There are many cable shows, however the internet is a little slow. You are also missing some amenities such as a mini fridge, but there was a hair dryer and iron/ironing board available. The room is basic but comfortable, with a comfortable bed and spacious room. The furniture is very homey - almost as though you are staying in a friend's house. The room does show its age, but it is more old time charming and not dirty hotel, at least in my opinion. The price is very reasonable, especially for the location. I would stay here again if we come back to Seattle!

Yelp
I had a great experience at this hotel! Loved the character of the historic building, the staff was very friendly, loved the roof top terrace with seating to relax and sight see downtown Seattle, the Rhododendron cafe was fantastic for brunch/cocktails and extremely convenient with great prices. The only thing I'd complain about is no parking and we had to pay to park when we arrived Saturday afternoon, Sunday was free though. There is no AC in the rooms but we opened all the windows because it was a beautiful sunny weekend and we were totally comfortable with just doing that. It was about a 20 min walk to Pikes Market, not bad at all if you enjoy a nice city walk, someone suggested next time to pay about $4 to take an Uber there. Next time I might, as it was a total 4 mile walk there and around Pikes Market and back to the hotel.

Yelp
This is the Bates Motel of Seattle. I knew the minute I walked in, it was going to be bad. We flew in early, and our room wasn't ready until 2 p.m. It was a complete disaster. It's old, worn down, dated and the location is farther than I expected from The Pikes Place attractions. It's next to the hospital which, you'll need because of all the hills you'll climb to get back there after shopping. I hate it. It has no air conditioner and the rooms are dated and smelly. I think you only get basic or free channels. Definitely nothing modern or fancy here. I wish my fiance would've did his research before booking this dump. The next 3 days will be hell.

Yelp
Love this place! It's old, built in the 1920's as apartments. It has lots of character, fun furniture and on point lobby music. The room was large and right next to the rooftop garden with beautiful views. Slept well like I was at home. Easy walking distance to many places. The staff is great and the Cafe has yummy food. Bonus you get to freak out Lyft drivers by directing them to the emergency room to drop you off, its next door.

Yelp
Am giving this three stars this time only because we got a different type of room that was larger and a bit nicer. Would have liked to give this two and a half stars but with Yelp you can't do that, ergo I gave it three. This hotel is convenient if you are with someone who is a hospital patient but there is no others reason to stay there although it is close to downtown and within walking distance. Sadly, there is no restaurant in the hotel at this point. The clerk told me that the hospital used to run it and they decided to close it because it wasn't making any money. The hotel says in January they plan on opening something. Meanwhile you do have the option of using the room service the hospital offers. It's not great food but it's not expensive, you need to have cash when they deliver but they do make change; or you can eat at one of the various places nearby. The housekeeping was just so so. They have a nice one cup, coffee maker with both coffee and tea pods. However, I used one and then left the cup. Two days later that dirty cup was still sitting there. The towels are thin and small, definitely not first rate. While this hotel isn't the best, it beats the Baroness across the street

Yelp
It's not what anyone would consider a 5 star hotel ... but it deserves a 5 star review. Let me explain. :) Top 4 reasons why you should book a room at the Inn at VM : 1. SUPER comfy beds. Even if they cut corners in other areas in the inn (I'll explain below), they didn't go chintzy with the mattresses. My friend and I stayed in a double room (was supposed to be twin beds, but they gave us fulls - YAY!) and we slept SO well! We own our own businesses in NY so we were looking forward to finally sleeping in, for once. And boy, did we ever! Think we slept for 12 hours the first night we arrived (jet lagged much? ;)). We kept the windows open during some nights, and we were never once disturbed by any street noises during the night. 2. I wanted to stay close to where all the action was, without it costing an arm and a leg. 15 min walking distance from Pike Place Market. 10 min walk to shopping and monorail (that takes you to the Space Needle and Seattle Center). Tip: Download the Transit Go Ticket App. You can purchase all Public Transportation tickets ahead of time without standing in line (we STILL don't have this in NYC!) including the Light Rail that takes you to and fro SeaTac airport, as well as the Water Taxi that takes you to West Seattle. With that being said, the cost for the room at the Inn was WELL worth it. Location, Location, Location! We walked to the Pike Place Market EVERYDAY. Sometimes we cheated and took an Uber back to the Inn because we were so tired, but that was a personal choice from exhaustion. 3. It's like a boutique hotel but with a 1920s theme and charm. I've read a lot of complaints in reviews how things just looked too old and they need to redesign, yadda yadda ... If you want a more modern hotel with all the bells and whistles that come along with it, DO NOT stay at the INN at VM. You should stay at this inn if you want to feel like you're staying in a location that is a part of Seattle history. The inside of the elevator still looked vintage; I kind of wished there was an elevator operator (but not really since it only fits 3 to 4 people in it comfortably). I love the decor and even the framed art in the corridors were perfect for the theme. 4. Housekeeping came in EVERY afternoon to tidy our beds, take out the garbage, and give extra toiletries and towels. It made our coming back to our room that much more comfortable and relaxing. We felt very well taken care of. There were some "iffy" things about our room but honestly, they were made up for because of everything I've written above, but just to be thorough in my review, I'll jot them down. The carpet had some schmutz (what felt like dried chewing gum) stuck to it in the middle of our room. I always bring slippers with me wherever I stay, not matter how new or old the hotel is, so it wasn't really a problem for me. My friend didn't mind because not a lot of things bother her. The water pressure in the sink was a bit weak. I believe I've read another reviewer mentioning that, but it didn't ruin our stay. I was still able to brush my teeth and wash my hands+face. I do want to mention that the shower pressure was spot on, even if the sink wasn't. AND, we didn't have to wait for the hot water to kick in. It took only seconds for it to heat up. Lots of safety bars in the bathroom for patients in mind. We came to Seattle at the end of September, so we didn't need an AC. Opening the windows was enough. There was a full size fan in the closet in case guests need it. I don't know how hot Seattle gets in the summer, but if it's anything like NYC heat, I can understand how guests will be uncomfortable since there was no AC in our room. There was a thermostat of some sort on our wall by the window, but we didn't fidget with it since we had comfy weather, so we don't know if we were able to control the temperature in our room. Small flat screen tv. Does its job. Basic channels. Guests should know there is a $50 deposit when you check-in, but they return it immediately after your stay. I thought this was fair. There is one really steep hill coming up from the west side of the inn. I was okay with it. I like the exercise, but it may pose a problem to some/many. We only ate at the restaurant once for breakfast, and our waitress was so kind and accommodating. We both had the avocado toast with fruit. Nothing spectacular about it, and it may seem pricey to some, but since we're from NYC we thought the prices were fair. One of the weird thing was the electrical outlets in our room. The sockets were a bit big for our plugs. Every socket was too loose and does not securely fasten our plugs. I worked on my laptop during my stay, and the plug would fall out of the socket even if I moved a bit. This might be one thing I would suggest for the inn to fix, but again, it didn't ruin our stay. I would definitely stay here again! I felt the location, cost, and hospitality was well worth the stay! :)

Yelp
I stayed here with a family member who had medical services at Virginia Mason. For sheer convenience for this purpose, there is no place better. The mattresses were extremely comfortable and the hotel utilizes all laundered-each-time bedding . The Rhododendron restaurant downstairs offered us excellent food and service with an impressive wine list and full bar. On an elevator ride someone (who I'm fairly certain was the manager) proactively inquired if we found the room satisfactory. Housekeeping did an excellent job and I found our room, including the bathroom, to be very clean. We had a separate walk-in closet. There were plenty of easily reached outlets to charge our devices. If I were rating this hotel strictly on the above, it would get five stars. Now the but's. No refrigerator or microwave, so no way to keep your own food fresh. This is an OLD building with a tiny elevator, zero soundproofing between rooms or floors, old furniture, and two uncomfortable chairs in our room. In other words, fine for sleeping, but not great for relaxing, watching TV, or working. The TV is small. Little niceties one now expects in a hotel room, like a box of tissues and a device-charging digital radio/alarm clock, were absent. When I arrived at my room on day two of a four-day stay to find myself locked out, neither clerk at the desk apologized for the error, nor for the inconvenience of my having to schlep back downstairs to get it sorted. Disturbingly, this hotel was written up as recently as 2014 on bedbugregistry.com; however, one write-up indicated that management was quite responsive in isolating a problem room, and hopefully that response extended to any other complaints. I requested not to stay on the floors in question (4 and 7); and when I thoroughly examined the mattresses, bedding, and carpet edges of a room on the 5th floor prior to bringing our bags in, I found no evidence of infestation, nor was there at any point on either of us. Bottom-line: stay here as long as you're doing frequent business with the hospital; but as soon as that's done, move on, as the same $$ will buy you far more comfort elsewhere.

Yelp
This place is lovely. As soon as I walked into the lobby I felt a sense of warmth and welcome. I was a little worried from some of the other reviews and I suppose you never know about a place until you enter your room but I was pleasantly surprised. My room was very clean (the bathroom spotless) and the concierge was so friendly and helpful. So now that I've stayed here myself, the recent one star reviews surprise me. Not sure if it's just some rooms that are old and not updated? Mine was great. I love that there's a restaurant here, the wi-fi is acceptable (though spotty on the 8th floor where my room was...I just spent some time in the lobby). And though I didn't eat at the restaurant, I could hear how wonderful the server was to the customers while I was sitting in the lobby. Kudos to this place for its great attitude. I also checked out the rooftop patio. It could use a little ambience lighting at night! I'm sure not many people go up there, but it is scary dark at night...even some plain white christmas lights strung up would go a long way! Make it cute, guys! Why not? Anyway, I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Thank you guys.

Yelp
We asked about a different room and were told no, that your rooms are not ADA compliant. Also, it was your front desk and housekeeping supervisor that told us they did not clean rooms everyday, and the housekeeping supervisor was extremely rude about it.

Yelp
Stayed in room 604, spacious with 2 queen beds. Large walk in closet and ok sized bathroom. Room needs LOTS of TLC. Carpets look very dingy, gross to walk on. Room had a bad odor, had to buy a candle. Bathroom was the worst, paint peeling off the walls, toilet seat had to have seen better days and bath tile had mold on the grout. Forget about requesting bell hop service, there's plenty of boys at the front desk, but no men to help out someone with 6 pieces of luggage. I gave 2 stars only because: 1. They have a beautiful terrace on the 9th floor 2. It is conveniently located next to a hospital (this star is actually for the hospital) they let you borrow oxygen tanks and wheelchairs as needed.

Yelp
The Inn at Virginia Mason is an old hotel. If you are super picky about your hotel, then you may not want stay here. The furnishings are old and some of the stuff is broken, like a cracked sink in my bathroom. However, personally, I love this place. It's probably the most inexpensive place in the area. My daughter goes to Seattle U so it's walking distance to the college. There are TONS of fast food places and restaurants within easy walking distance. Also, many drug stores, small supermarkets, GNC, BoA, Wells Fargo, etc. And, it's walking distance to a gym, the 24 hour fitness on Yale Avenue. So, you do not need a car just take Uber, Lift or the Link Rail from the airport. My hotel room is always clean and the Asian lady at the front desk is SUPER nice and friendly. She once went across the street, to their "sister" hotel while it was raining to get me a do not disturb sign for my room. She seems to really care about your experience at this hotel. The renovated their coffee snack shop so it's brand new. The hotel has a lot of ambiance and, for me, it's perfect.

Yelp
We visited Seattle and the hotels seemed expensive. My wife found this Inn which is up the hill overlooking Seattle. It is walking distance to everything in downtown Seattle. The Inn itself is older and quaint. The room was smallish, but had plenty of room. We appreciated that the staff and the restaurant were great. And especially that the room was quiet, even though in the city. There were tons of restaurants and shopping within walking distance. This is a great and affordable Inn when visiting Seattle.

Yelp
Food is good, but the weakest drinks in the West. SMH....Why? Folks need a little extra when staying here. Just my two cents...

Yelp
Our room was small, and ill laid out. I think it was a storage closet before it was made into a hotel room. There was a moldy smell as well. The bathroom had exposed plumbing pipes, holes in the wall with blue tape on some of them to cover them up, missing and cracking paint, along with very poor water pressure. We were at the end of the hallway and I did see some of the other rooms when walking to the elevator. Some rooms did appear to be much nicer than our room. I guess we got unlucky. It was very convenient for access to the hospital which was about the only major plus to this location. We will stay elsewhere when returning to Seattle.

Yelp
I was surprised at some of the older reviews I read. We loved our stay here! But we loved the decor of a boutique hotel. The staff was helpful and friendly. The room was spacious and accommodating. My wife and I slept like babies with full bellies! The room was a bit warm upon arrival but we cracked the window and turned down the thermostat. No biggie! We stayed 4 nights and are sure to return. There are many nice restaurants and coffee shops in the area (loved Vito's) and its about a 30 minute walk to the Waterfront area of Seattle (though I don't recommend it if you are not use to steep hills).

Yelp
Apparently this hotel is on "pill hill" meaning next door to the hospital and lots of drug addicts looking for drugs.... I can see all of the hospital rooms from my bed. Very depressing room. Shower head gives off very little water. Shampoos and conditioner is of poor quality. Does not deserve the 3 stars listed here on yelp. Do yourself a favor and pay a little more for a better place to stay. I am overwhelmingly dissatisfied and disappointed with this place. The photos on hotels.com are not accurate. Yuck. Sleeping with my clothes on tonight.

Yelp
Our trip to Seattle, found us checking into the Inn at Virginia Mason. When we arrived there was no place near to park and check in, so we circled for awhile. After checking in, there was no one to help with the luggage and there are about 5 steps to climb from the street to get into the hotel. Now I understood why there was no place to park and check in. Once I delivered my luggage to the room. I went back down to park the car. They claim they have on site parking. NOT TRUE two of the closest parking lots were full. I ended up parking 4 blocks away at $24.00 per day. The rooms were clean, but the twin beds are small. Staff was courteous, but limited on there help. We canceled our reservations for the balance of the week and rebooked at Holiday Inn Express. Night and day difference, we're glad we did.

Yelp
First time to visit Seattle and I wanted to book something cool and unusual and within price range. While scanning the internet I came across the Virginia Mason Inn and what sold me was the "outdoor dining" on the rooftop. I thought "how romantic". From the pictures, the hotel rooms looked quaint. Once arrived, the outside was your typical street entrance. It is directly next to a hospital and come to find out this is where most patients stay the night before surgery or this is where families stay while the patient is recovering. No parking, but you can park in the hospital garage for a fee. No free parking. The lady at the front desk was either having a bad day or that was her usual demeanor but she never acknowledged me--- just my husband-- during the check in process. She wasn't helpful when asked about nearby restaurants or any other question posed. Vending and ice machine only on first floor. Very small elevator, almost uncomfortable if you are in there with a stranger. We were in the 7th floor and once the elevator door opened, I was struck with an odor I can only say smelled like Aqua Net hairspray. Lots of it. The room was nothing what I expected. Quite below what I expected. A mixture of old and new mixed together but not in a good way. Had a coffee pot but no fridge. The bed slept well and we did not use the old fashioned alarm clock. The location of the hotel is fine and is not too far from the main attractions but walking back is all uphill. Be aware. No restaurant as it was under construction. Not even breakfast. Thank goodness for the little corner diner! Excellent food! Seems most all medical employees use the dining area and rooftop for their personal eating spot. Scrubs everywhere. Heed the pictures of guests versus the professional pictures.

Yelp
Solid location on Capital Hill in nice neighborhood. Front desk staff was super nice! Rooms were clean, but overall hotel is in major need of updating and seems to be really focused on serving people with family at Virginia Mason. If you're on vacation or business, would try somewhere else. (I mixed this place up with Hotel Sorrento, which is two blocks away and much nicer).

Yelp
My friend stayed at this Inn From Dec. 31-Jan. 3 for New Years. Since my friend had to come in from a late flight, I decided to check in first just to get settled and see if the room is ok. In order to check in, I had to provide a credit card authorization hold. However, since it was my friend who was staying at the hotel and not me, she was paying for it. I asked the front desk if it would be possible to swap cards on file once she gets here so that her card could be charged instead. I was assured twice that it would be fine and an easy thing to do (cause I hate dealing with these mixups afterwards). I figured this is done quite often by other patrons and no problems would arise. When my friend came, we went to front desk again to put her credit card on file and no problem. Upon checkout, we checked with front desk again to make sure the right card on file would be charged and the front desk clerk gave me assurance. Today I check my credit card and discover a $450+ charge. Now I have to call the hotel manager, call my friend to have her give her credit card over phone again, and call my credit card company. Don't you hate it when people assure you confidently that something is not a problem at all and could be done easily and then screw up and give the excuse that these things happen because of multiple credit cards on file and having busy nights? That's what happened and it's irritating. So beyond this screw up, the Inn itself is quite dated and parking limited since it is in downtown. In terms of distance, its not walking distance from any of the major sites although its close for an Uber ride. My advice is to get a hotel farther out that either has free parking or cheaper rates and just call an Uber because you won't be able to walk downtown anyways. The hotel is old and I think may have been park of hospital ward before. The inside made me feel dirty and unclean. The carpets need to be washed and the bathroom was full of stains. When I look out my window, I see patients in the building across from me receiving treatment (you can see the doctors putting in IVs and stuff). I personally do not like this view but if you don't mind, then it shouldn't be a problem. To summarize, unprofessional staff and dated decor. The only reason for you to stay here is if you are a patient to see doctor at hospital or your family member is in the hospital.

Yelp
No parking and no clear disclaimer that there isn't. I know it may be common around here, but considering Inns and Hotels are popular for out of towners, information like that would be nice to disclose up front so guests can plan ahead better. The issue isn't even with the lack of parking, it's just that they're not mindful enough of others to consider stating it on the website as of the time of writing this review. Also, the rooms aren't much. Good enough for an overnight stay, but for the price I'd recommend finding somewhere a little further away from downtown. At the cost of driving or walking a little further, you get much better rooms for a more reasonable price. Outside of that, staff is pleasant and they have pretty conveniently placed wall outlets which I've noticed is hit or miss with a lot of hotels for some reason.

Yelp
Not awesome, but a good deal for the location. The room had a cool old nostalgic feel, but it had a few things I didn't like. First off the bathroom windows were clear. Sure, the window had blinds, but If I wanted to use the toilet, i had to either open the blinds opening myself to a clear view from the hostipal, or go without natural light. It's a minor issue, but the solution, a translucent coating on the window, is also pretty easy. The TV was so blurry that it was very distracting. This and other problems didn't matter too much as we didn't spend much time in the hotel. It was a nice short walk from downtown and everything we went to do. Paying for other places with that kind of location looked to charge us $50+ more a night. Good location for the price, however if you book early enough many better hotels are priced similarly, if not cheaper. Note to people who wish to stay here. Do not paln to walk up Spring to the Inn from Downtown. I say walk up Pike to Minor, then to Spring and downhill. The road at the entrance of the Inn is 5 full stories higher than the road the next block toward downtown. That hill is a beast.

Yelp
You should avoid this hotel! Most of my stay was fine. In fact I require very few amenities when it comes to hotels. My philosophy is that I will only spend a limited amount of time in the room so I don't need a lot of perks. With that being said, a sink that drains is not on the "optional" list. I stayed here over a Friday and Saturday night. On Saturday morning I was brushing my teeth and realized that the sink did not drain for quite a while. As I was leaving for the day (approximately 9:00 am), I reported this to the front desk and asked them to check on it. They replied that they would. Later that evening (around 8:00 pm or so) I went into the bathroom and saw that the water still had not drained. At this point I called the front desk and they had a maintenance person come up. He fiddled with it for about 20 minutes and reported that someone else would have to come up. No one did. In the morning my sink was full of brown dirty water and I could nothing with it. At check out the manager took $90 off my bill. I suggested he reimburse for one entire night. He replied that the General manager would call me and sort this out. I never did receive a call (it has been 5 days now and counting) and I guess they just don't care that much. Anyway, avoid this place!

Yelp
I stayed at this hotel once to try and save a little cash. Never again. Not only were the rooms cramped and the twin beds incredibly uncomfortable, but the worst part was that I found BED BUGS!!! After checking out early and asking for a refund (we didn't even stay the whole night), not only were we charged twice, but the hotel manager tried to insinuate that we brought them with us. I've never been treated so poorly before. Stay Away!!

Yelp
Pros: Attached to the hospital - which was the reason for our visit. Very convenient for me to go back and forth while spouse was in hospital, and easy for spouse to walk to when he was released. The 2nd room we had (Corner King) had a much bigger bathroom, microwave, refrigerator, and an upholstered chair with footstool which was a big help after surgery. (Previously had Queen). Front desk crew very nice and very accommodating as we requested to move rooms, extend stay and checkout late. Appreciate that windows open - although not much. Several small stores, restaurants, and pharmacies within walking distance. Cons: Furnishings are old. Had to ask for a fan to cool room off. Price seems high even when given medical rate. I would think a hotel that is a part of the hospital would offer hospital patients a much lower rate - especially given age of hotel. TV in both rooms we had was too low to comfortably see from the bed or upholstered chair. The garbage cans in the room are too small. People recovering from surgery are going to be eating in their rooms. There is not enough room in the cans for very many takeout and drink containers. One time we set our garbage can outside the room to be emptied and it was many hours before it was. The bathtub/shower in our King room was quite moldy and the caulking all needed to be redone. It is a steep uphill walk from just about anywhere in the city.

Yelp
For the price, the location, the cleanliness, and the parking this place is totally a value. We were here on a Friday night and easily found the parking lot associated with the hotel ($20 per 24 hours with in and out privileges for those staying at the hotel - a great value for the area!). We needed cheap, and this was cheap, but it was also clean - my primary objective. The room we were in might have been a handicapped room or maybe all of their rooms are handicapped accessible, but there was plenty of room for a wheel chair around the room and in the bathroom. The only one negative-ish was that there are really no frills. Our room did not have the hair dryer that I assume will always be at a hotel room. All of the staff was helpful and the room was quiet. Considering price and convenience, I'd totally stay here again!

Yelp
We came in for a night before heading out in a cruise. The exterior looked nice and classic. Inside we met Vanessa at the front desk who was extremely accommodating and friendly. She was knowledgeable about the area which was helpful in deciding what to do for a day. The hotel is older, but clean. The room was a good size and clean. Being from TX, we immediately turned on the air conditioner, but come to find out there is none which was okay due to nice weather here, even in the summer! There was a box fan in the closet if needed. We had a quiet, comfortable sleep and would come back again. This is a great hotel for a short stay and close to many restaurants and only 1 mile to walk to Pike' s Market!
