We adored this Inn! It was set back off the road and seemed almost secluded by their stunning garden. The rooms were adorable and very well maintained. Anything we needed was promptly taken care of even to the point that the owners wife helped our 7 year old after he scrapped his foot! The amenities were all open to the people staying there and you were right on the sound to enjoy the water. Lastly, the food. It was AMAZING. Everything was well seasoned and cooked perfectly. We also got visited regularly by their rescue dogs who came and went 🖤

I can't say enough wonderful things about this Inn. We loved our first trip back in July of 2021 so much and couldn't stop thinking about it, that we decided to have our wedding there on 5/9/25! The rooms are all beautiful and unique in their own way. The views from the balconies and windows are breathtaking and you won't want to miss sunsets on the sound. We have stayed in the Morning Glory and the Jasmine room, and both we clean, comfortable, and beautiful. The amenities are unmatched and include bikes, kayaks, SUPS, floats, etc. The staff is INCREDIBLE in every way and they make the entire experience. The rooms were clean and house keeping was there frequently to check if anything was needed. The Cafe is to die for and the included breakfast is truly a steal for what you're getting. I didn't have a single bite or drink here that wasn't truly delicious. We love everything about this place and can't wait to make regular trips for our anniversary. If you're looking for a wedding venue, do yourself a favor and go read all the glowing reviews on the Knot and Wedding Wire and you'll stumble across mine. This place gets infinite stars.

Amazing sunsets off our balcony and the food was delicious for breakfast and dinner. Everyone was super nice too. Nice location off hwy 12 on the sound. Best food around. We ate breakfast and dinner every day and the food was awesome. Our Magnolia room was spacious, clean and the balcony had the best views of the sound.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The staff at the front desk was super friendly and even walked us to the dock to show us where complimentary chairs were located. We thoroughly enjoyed the restaurant! They had live music the night we were there and our dinner (and service were outstanding. Breakfast this morning also wonderful!|Big plus… bed was super comfy!!

Great food and reasonably priced! Services was excellent! Atmosphere was relaxing and calm. View was beautiful! A must stop while on the island. We took a walk on the decking after eating and saw our first Jumping Mullet! I highly recommend this lovely place.

Wonderful oasis. Very comfortable room and bed and a gorgeous view. Breakfast is well worth $5. Our morning waitress was a lovely way to start the day. A little tricky seeing the sign and recognizing the entrance. Watch for feather flags. Thank you all

The hotel side, the restaurant side, the staff, the location, everything here is amazing! We stayed and had our wedding here recently and it was the best experience! Every single guest, whether they were staying there too or just came for the wedding, asked how we found it because they loved it just as much! I wish I could give them 10 stars!!

A Family Favorite with Heart & Hospitality! March 20 2025. Our stay at The Inn on Pamlico Sound was nothing short of magical—our third visit, and it just keeps getting better! Traveling with our in-laws and our two daughters (10 & 12), we were thrilled by how welcoming and accommodating the entire experience was. The on-site restaurant was a highlight—delicious food, impeccable service, and a warm atmosphere. We especially loved knowing that the Inn treats its workers so well, offering fair wages and even housing for many of them and their families. It’s rare to find a business that truly cares about both its guests *and* its team, and it shows in every detail. The owner’s passion is infectious—always on-site, happy to chat about the Inn’s history, the local area, or just share stories. My father-in-law, who was born just a few miles away, loved reminiscing with him about the town’s past. It made the trip even more special. Our girls adored the complimentary stand-up paddleboarding in the sound after breakfast (such a fun perk!), and the sunsets… well, they were *indescribable*. Pure magic over the water every evening. Having stayed here first in their early years and now again, it’s amazing to see how the Inn has stayed true to its charm while only improving with time. We’ll be back for a fourth visit—no question! **A 5-star gem in every way.**

Yelp
From our original inquiry with Steve, then to make our reservation with Alicia, everything was exceptional! When checking in, we were surprised at how wonderful everything looked outstanding! Steve, who was extremely friendly, was working in the office, and stated they upgraded us to one of there best rooms! Also in the office, we're Steve's 2 dogs, Maggie Mae and penny who were very friendly. When we got to our room, it was breathtaking, with an exceptional view. We could not have asked for anything nicer! Thank you to Steve and all the workers there. Now to the restaurant, the ambience and view were exceptional! Out waitresses Willow, and Alicia were warm, friendly and outgoing. The dinner and breakfast were outstanding! Thank you all again. My wife Ginger and I will definitely be back!

Yelp
My husband and I planned a trip to Pamlico Inn from Norfolk. We stayed Thursday night - Sunday morning. We booked 3 weeks in advance and had no problem with availability. Initially we booked from Friday - Monday, I called a week ago and needed to change my reservation. At that time the In. Keepers were eager to assist. He mentioned that we would be able to stay in Hyacinth for the first night and the initial chose. room Magnolia for the remaining nights. We checked in Thursday, I called an hour out as their check in details mentioned for earlier guests. Justin was very accommodating and mentioned he would ensure the room would be ready upon arrival. Once we arrived it was recommended to reserve meals at the on-sight restaurant Cafe Pamlico to avoid the wait. I had already scheduled 2 meals there prior to arrival via "Open Table". Per Justin's instructions we went ahead and booked the remaining days/meals. We checked into the Hyacinth room on the first floor, "East building) and it was bright and beautiful, very clean and homey. Hubs and I rested, showered and got dressed for dinner. The bathroom had a jetted tub and large shower head. While waiting for our dinner reservation we took a walk out to the long pier and sat and watched the water. After dinner we turned to our room and had a great nights sleep. The next day while at breakfast the cleaning crew transferred our items to the Magnolia room. We walked the grounds in awe of the gardening area. After a little while it was time to go up to the new room on the second floor. This room was ahhmazing and jaw dropping. The high ceiling, spaciousness, 2 person table, larger bathroom with a larger jetted tub, and couch was perfect for us. It was so perfect that we enjoyed the rest of our meals via room service for $5 per person from Cafe Pamlico's breakfast menu. We enjoyed watching tv, sipping on wine we brought with us and the many mimosas I ordered for room service. This getaway was a way for us to put time into us and we did just that. This place is romantic, and love is in the air everywhere. The staff was attentive and polite, and Steve (owner) was personable and so "happy go lucky". Parking on the property is no issue and no added fee. The restaurant is connected to the east building, so you don't have to go outside to enter. This was convenient especially when it started to rain. There is a later check out (11am) so we were able to enjoy room service one last time before vacating. They allow guests to enjoy the property for the entire day of checking out so that's a plus for some I'm sure. We left after breakfast and husband checked in with the front deck to ensure there wasn't anything else needed. They mentioned final invoice will be sent via email, and sent us on our way. We really enjoyed our stay and I can't wait to come back again. Thank you "The Inn on Pamlico".

Yelp
This review is waaay too late. My wife and I stayed there for our 30th anniversary/Thanksgiving and I cannot say enough about this place. The food is so good that it is now my reference for other restaurants. And the Thanksgiving spread was unique and well plated. The room and bathroom were very clean and spacious. The staff and owner were super nice. I cannot believe I waited so long to visit. We will be back!

Yelp
Checked in on 06/30/2024, and checked out on 07/05/2024. What first impressed me was the grounds...It is a very well-maintained place. I always saw Steve (the owner of the Inn) on the property working his tail off, and that also impressed me. Got to speak with Steve as well...Very nice man, and you can tell how passionate he is to give his customers a great experience. I stayed in the Honeysuckle Room...Very nice room with a comfortable king-sized bed, and the room was very clean. I requested housekeeping to clean the room every day of my stay, and they did a very good job. The dock was awesome! Really enjoyed spending time there and watching the sound. Cafe Pamlico was wonderful. The breakfasts every morning were great, and the dinners that I had with my family were excellent. Especially enjoyed having Dallas as our waiter. Overall, I had a great experience at both the Inn on Pamlico Sound and the Pamlico Cafe...I look forward to coming back, and I am telling my friends about it. Thank you for all of your warmth and hospitality!

Yelp
My partner and I had an incredible stay from the hospitality, amenities, food, and views. It was our first time in Hatteras and we loved the quaint beach town vibes. Our stay at this inn was better than other hotel experiences I've had with big name companies. We stayed in the Periwinkle room which faced Pamlico Sound and it could not be more perfect. Room service breakfast was complimentary with a $5 gratuity to pay for service. They had complimentary beach chairs, umbrellas, life jackets, kayaks, and paddle boards for us to use as well. We also made dinner reservations at Cafe Pamlico which is on site and the views, food, and service were impeccable. I'd recommend this to anyone who is in the OBX area and looking to support local businesses for their vacation stay. I was completely blown away!

Yelp
This is a fantastic getaway location. It's quiet clean and high class. Even the music heard on the property was relaxing. The bed may be the most comfortable I've ever slept in away from home. Sunsets are bar-none. The staff was very kind and considerate. Booking, check in, room accessibility, and checkout was a breeze. Will definitely be back. Highly recommend. Also the two local pooches were adorable and obviously very happy.

Yelp
Fabulous setting and pleasant grounds for sitting to enjoy the peaceful area. Room was very comfortable, and the company we met made breakfast special. Highly recommend you stay here

Yelp
So we just spent a weekend in Buxton and at The Inn on Pamlico Sound. I really had a hard time deciding what star rating I was going to give them. First off, this place is, in my wife's words, cute. It's an old converted house that is the OBX equivalent of a New England bed and breakfast, and very well done. It's not "modern" but not overly outdated. Definitely geared more towards a couples retreat than a family beach getaway. The friendliness and the level of care and customer services was better than most 5 star hotels. The views of the Pamlico are breathtaking, the food at their cafe was amazing! So why no 5 star rating you ask? The grounds and landscaping are unfortunately atrocious. There are roses, flowers, hydrangeas and fruit trees being strangled by a jungle of out of control weeds. There are piles of dead tree limbs stacked about in various places all over the property and the private beach is such a mess it's going to stay private...as in nobody is going to use it. If you are able to look past the mess, you will have a great stay.

Yelp
We love the Inn on Pamlico Sound SO much & know you will, too!! My husband and I have stayed here twice and absolutely rave about it to all of our family and friends, and we can't recommend it enough. The soundfront location, the restaurant, the staff, the amenities, the rooms (especially the balcony & rocking chairs overlooking the sound), the complimentary breakfast, its proximity to many favorites on Hatteras Island... we could go on & on about how incredible the Inn on Pamlico Sound is. It's such a gem, and we have thoroughly enjoyed every visit -- and can't wait to come back again!

Yelp
This place was perfect for our family vacation. We stayed in Jasmine. Plenty of room for me, my husband, and our 10 yo. One of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in. The deck was incredible - huge with gorgeous views of the sunset and sound and it felt very private. The food in the restaurant was delicious and we loved the live music. Service was fantastic, from the housekeeper arranging our daughter's stuffies to the kitchen loaning us wine glasses. The staff was so kind and friendly, expressing genuine interest in our plans and giving great advice on where to go and want to see. Beach gear was available for us to use at the resort and to take to the beach. Every request we made was met with, "Absolutely! That's what we're here for."

Yelp
This was the most amazing meal ive had in a VERY VERY long time. Absolutely delicious. The Shrimp and Scallop grits were just mind blowing. Drive here. From anywhere. Eat here.

Yelp
Outstanding hotel, and professionally run. We absolutely loved our visit. Great room and very clean. I rate this Inn a perfect 10. Thanks, will be back!!

Yelp
This place is a GEM in Buxton. It was perfect place for my husband and I to get a little get away. The views of the sound were spectacular. The staff very helpful guiding us to pick a room and discuss availability and very communicative prior to our stay and during our stay. The room was clean and well stocked. It was so helpful to have access to beach chairs, beach umbrellas and they even had floats, canoes, paddle boards and kayaks for guests to use. We opted for room service breakfast each morning and the food was delicious and we could enjoy the view while eating. I would highly recommend to anyone! * My pictures don't do it justice, but thought I would share. It was also fun to watch the wedding from our porch*

Yelp
The Inn on Pamlico Sound is amazing! This is our second stay at the inn for my birthday! From the moment we arrived Annie made our check in feel like we were arriving for a hometown visit. She sought us out a bit after check in to let us know the complimentary fresh baked cookies were warm out of the oven, since I had mentioned I was thinking about them as we were driving there. Shortly after our arrival, we were all set to head to Cafe Pamlico for my birthday dinner! Melissa gave us outstanding service and presented us a most delicious dinner of fresh Mahi-mahi and my husband enjoyed southern shrimp and grits. Melissa topped the night off with a candle in the decadent chocolate molten lava cake! During dinner we enjoyed live music with the other diners, provided by local talent Brian Surratt. Brian was happy taking requests from all of us. Our room was very comfortable, clean and had the most outstanding views imaginable. Water as far as the eyes could see.... In the morning, we enjoyed our complimentary breakfast of raspberry white chocolate pancakes, bacon, eggs and crispy home fries. My husband devoured a house specialty "spam loco omelet". A delicious rendition of a ham and rice omelet. Ashley was great keeping our coffee hot and exchanging pleasantries and delightful conversation. From the moment we arrived to our departure, The Inn on Pamlico Sound and Cafe Pamlico did not disappoint! The staff is warm, inviting and professional with that unmistakable dash of southern hospitality. I cannot wait for my next opportunity to stay at the inn again, until then I will highly recommend it and its staff to anyone thinking of staying on Hatteras Island. Thank you for making my birthday so memorable. Tim and Lori

Yelp
Such a nice place if you're looking for a relaxing friendly place. Every staff member was beyond friendly and nice, some we saw working at night and then the next morning (hope they got sleep). All staff was excellent but I our waiter (Justin?) went above and beyond. We used the paddle board they have, didn't use the bikes they have, used the beach chairs, used the pool towels, didn't use the pool (a little too cold outside). Staying at the hotel you get free breakfast. All food was amazing, this place is definitely a restaurant first. If you stay there, they also give out cookies/brownies in the afternoon and coffee in the morning. Easy drive to the beach, shipwreck museum.

Yelp
We stayed here for 3 nights at the end of October in the Oleander room. The grounds are gorgeous with stunning views of the sound, flowers everywhere, butterflies, shore birds, just perfect. Location-wise, it's centrally located on Hatteras island so we could easily roam from Avon to Ocracoke. Staff was welcoming and friendly. Our room was pretty and comfortable and had a large balcony with a view of the sound. And, the shower - omg the shower! I will miss that most of all. Super high water pressure that was an absolute treat. The sheets were so soft I want to know where they got them. And the bed was very comfortable. Everything was clean. Some opportunities: there was nowhere really comfortable to sit in the room; the balcony chairs were not comfortable, and if you sat back in them, you had a view of the ceiling. If you sat up, your view was partially obscured by the railing. High tables and chairs would be ideal. Overall, highly recommend.

Yelp
What a fun getaway, at what felt like a home away from home! You truly feel like you are friends with the staff. Steve, the owner, was so incredibly friendly from the moment we met. He is probably one of the most hilarious, kind people I have ever met. We stayed in the Sea Oats room which is one of their premium king rooms. It's so spacious, clean, and has a beautiful deck with a sound view. The property is so beautiful. Gardens of herbs and vegetables all over the place. A pier to walk out to and sit by the water. They have kayaks, knee boards, beach chairs, life jackets, etc that you can borrow. If it's a rainy day, they have a movie theater and hundreds of movies that you can pick from. If you want something more romantic you can sign out DVDs and watch in your room. They have games, books, a guitar, home baked cookies, fresh coffee roasted on site. You will not miss a thing from home while being here! The breakfast is absolutely wonderful and included in your stay. I enjoyed the breakfast sandwich 3 days in a row. Heheh. I couldn't get enough. Some advice I will give to those who like their stays extremely quiet and are light sleepers, make sure you bring some ear plugs, sound machine, or whatever helps cover noises because the rooms are definitely not 100% sound proof. You will hear doors shutting, and people walking, sometimes. It's not anything that happens during late hours but if you tend to go to bed at 9pm then definitely bring something to help you with potential noises.

Yelp
WOW! What a GREAT PLACE. Whilst planning a road trip to the south I found this little gem of a place on the internet. There isn't a big selection of places to stay on the outer banks and this one looked the best to me. I tried to make reservations on line but was unable to do so. After trying several times I finally called. I was told that you have to stay two nights. Well we were on a 15-day road trip and the schedule was pretty much carved in stone. BUT...she said I could call her closer to the time and if there was space available, I could get a room. So I booked another place and kept my fingers crossed. The morning before the anticipated day, I called and they said there was space and accepted my reservation. I cancelled the other place. We arrived in the afternoon. The place is very charming. It is well decorated and the people were awesome. They took us on a tour and told us about all the amenities available for our stay. The fresh baked goodies were really good. There was soda, coffee and water to drink. The rooms were really nice. Private bathroom was great. There's a refrigerator and microwave there to accommodate your restaurant leftovers, or the complimentary snacks - like popcorn in your room. We stayed in the Hyacinth Room - first floor with a private patio. There is everything you need to enjoy your time here. We were looking for a great place for dinner and the Cafe was closed on that evening, but Meredith gave us a great tip on Gidget's Pizza and Pasta House (See my Review)- just a few minutes away. We ate there and it was really good. In the morning we enjoyed a nice breakfast in the cafe. The service and the food were exceptional. Because of our time constraints we didn't have time to enjoy the full range of the facilities. And because of the weather, swimming or sitting on the patio wasn't going to work either. But this is a great place. I can't think of anything that was less that a five. The only thing I would change if I could was instead of one night, I would stay FOUR. And instead of November, I would go in May, or June. Thanks for an AWESOME, albeit short, Experience. If I ever make it back to the Outer Banks you can bet I'll be staying HERE, at "The Inn on Pamlico Sound."

Benjamin G.

Yelp
We were blown away by the service and the property. The food/drinks were top notch as well and enjoyed sipping cocktails out by the dock at night and watching movies in the home theater. We will be back!!

Charles O.

Yelp
The Inn on Pamlico Sound is fantastic, from the Inn itself, to the views around the property was amazing, the friendliness and level of service of the staff is more than five star.

Yelp
Great anniversary weekend! The Inn on Pamlico Sound might be our favorite place we've ever stayed. With great accommodations, service and all the included amenities it really can't be beat. For example, every afternoon we would find freshly baked cookies outside of our room. Little touches like this aren't seen often. They had drinks available as well as snacks for us to use. No upcharge for any of these items. On top of that the rooms are comfortable and come with a beautiful view. We stayed in the Hyacinth which had two Adirondack rockers on a private porch overlooking the sound. Very peaceful experience. The grounds are great as well. Vegetable are grown all around and used for their cafe. Guests have access to baddle boards, kayaks, bikes and plenty of other activities. Can't wait to go back and if you get a chance be sure to have a conversation with Steve (the owner). First class guy and great to talk to.

Yelp
A hidden gem. A true treasure. A place to reconnect with yourself. This beautiful place allowed me to enjoy its true beauty. We stayed in the Magnolia Room. The bed is positioned so you wake up and go to bed overlooking the beauty of the Pamlico Sound. The water and marsh colors change throughout the day depending on the light. You can sit back on you're own covered deck/porch and enjoy the beauty of the sound and watch the sunset unfold. My favorite is sitting on Sunset Point throughout the day. And did I mention this place brings the true stars to light? Just come and watch. Coffee is served just outside your room in the morning. Cookies are served in the afternoon. And, a scrumptious breakfast is served in the morning. Enjoy the pool or sit on the beautiful deck. You won't be disappointed in this beautiful hotel. Enjoy!

Kendall M.

Yelp
It's the most charming hotel we've ever stayed at. The rooms are clean, and the amenities are amazing. The sunsets and the views of the sound are always the highlight of your stay, and you won't want to miss breakfast each morning. The staff is friendly and attentive and you won't ever want to leave!

Yelp
The Inn is a solid "3" but doesn't measure up to a "5." It's not terrible....but far from excellent. The daily breakfast was very good. The staff was friendly and helpful although we never did meet the owner. The room was fine; spacious with a nice view of Pamlico Sound. It was clean. Housekeeping is every 3rd day which was a bit surprising. The room furnishings were just adequate, nothing special. The grounds were not well maintained. The garden areas were unkept and overgrown with weeds. The parking lot is rutted and badly in need of repaving. The signs are old and in need of replacement. The "private beach" on the sound isn't really a beach, just a bit of dirty sand leading to Pamlico Sound which, while interesting to look at, is full of critters and weeds and not the water I'd want to put my feet in. The beach equipment for guests is stored under the building and the chairs are rusted and gross....I went to the store and bought a new beach chair. Biggest drawback is the location on highway 12 ...there is literally no way to take a pleasant morning walk unless you enjoy walking on a highway in the heat. You need a car to get to the beach. We booked this place relying on the stellar reviews which, after spending 7 nights there, leave me mystified as to how anyone could give a 5 rating to the place. Lastly...while they claim that the Inn is a "European style" boutique hotel, as a seasoned traveler (24 trips to Europe plus countless trips elsewhere) there is nothing "European" about the place. It's just an average hotel in a mediocre location. We had an okay week but there are better choices in the Outer Banks.

Yelp
Our stay at the Inn at Pamlico Sound and the dining experience at the Cafe Pamlico was simply marvelous. The rooms were comfortable and sufficiently sized. Very clean and the fragrance of the room was inviting. I love the toiletries that were offered, it reminded me of Jo Malone/London. The staff (especially Steve), was knowledgable, friendly and helpful. We were able to get our timeframes set for dinner and room service for breakfast. The meals at the Cafe Pamelico was a palatable delight with scrumptious exquisite delicacies to try on their extensive menu choices. The atmosphere is quintessential to the surroundings. I felt warmly welcomed to participate in the this dining experience. I throughly enjoyed my stay at the Inn at Pamelico Sound and the Cafe Pamelico. I highly recommend it for a vacation destination.

Yelp
I visited with my teen daughters for a girls beach getaway and we loved it! The Inn is clean, beautifully decorated, has amazing views of the sound and the staff were very welcoming. Their cafe has the best food and service on the island! We loved the gourmet breakfasts included with our stay and our dinners were excellent. It was very relaxing to sit on the private deck of our room, take walks on their dock and even just lounge in the room on the one day of rain we had. I can't wait to go back again with my husband next time.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gym, very romantic and picturesque. I would love to spend a long relaxing weekend and recommend it for couples to relax and unwind.

Christie L.

Yelp
We had a wonderful time here!! We stayed in the magnolia room and it was beautiful and relaxing. The staff and servers were very welcoming and helpful. The dinners were so delicious and they also have a great complementary breakfast. The view of the sound from our balcony was gorgeous and we were able to see stunning sunsets and sunrises. In addition, there were many beaches nearby including the Cape Hatteras lighthouse. Local shops and restaurants were easy to access. Overall, we had an amazing time at the Inn on Pamlico Sound.

Kerriann F.

Yelp
I don't know if there are enough words allowed to write how great my experience was- it was so good I even had to extend my stay. Upon arrival, I received a tour of the grounds and a complimentary upgrade on my room given it was off season. I immediately was aware that the staff was far more accommodating than most hotels - even the boutique hotels that I have stayed in. Cookies, coffee, beverages, and snacks are made readily available to you at all times. They even have a selection of movies you can pick from to watch in your room. No additional charge. Most of the rooms come with a stunning view (see photos), breakfast each day, a private deck, and a jacuzzi tub with the exception of a few lower priced rooms, but with the small variation in price you might as well make the most of it. Either way, you still have access to all of the same wonderful amenities and great service. You can even add a massage like I did. You have the option of walking down to the water and on occasion may find the fire pit going with a lovely man playing guitar and singing an acoustic song by the water. The location is hidden away from the main town, but still a very close few minute drive to Buxton and only 15 minutes up to Avon, which has more shops and restaurants. The Inn is a great escape for a low key winter retreat or for an entertaining summer stay. The Inn is great for couples, but I came for my stay alone and the staff made it feel like I was away with friends and family every single day I was here. I can't wait to come back!

Yelp
The inn at Pamlico Sound is perfect. The special character and originality of this place reminded us of a boutique hotel we stayed at in Paris. Small and quant. If you are looking for a streamlined modern, cookie cutter, holiday-inn style accommodations then this may disappoint you. Instead you are treated to a very clean, busy-yet-quiet place were you are encouraged to relax and enjoy local coffee. And we have never slept in such comfortable sheets, ever. The staff and owners immediately made us feel right at home. We stayed in Morning Glory king bedroom for 4 nights. The website described the room as chartreuse but we were delighted to discover that it is now a special shade of blue that matches the Pamlico Sound. Someone there truly has a green thumb has made the gardens come alive with fruit trees, vines, blooms and edible greens. All of the details were not lost on us. Staying here was a real treat. Highly recommended!

Yelp
My wife and I traveled to the Inn on Pamlico Sound over a long weekend in January and we walked away very impressed by the entire operation. The innkeeper, Steve, met us when we were checking in and took us on a brief tour of the entire property, which was nice (but very chilly). He also showed us to our room, which was nice to settle into after a long drive from DC. We stayed in a suite with a private balcony and absolutely loved watching the sun set over the Sound. The colors of the sky were just amazing. I don't usually wax poetically, but it was really a great way to end the day. We did the touristy things while in OBX, going to see the lighthouses and driving along the strip back to Nags Head and KDH, but being that it was the dead of winter, you really have to drive more than 40 minutes to get back to where restaurants were open. When we would return, the room was cleaned and restocked and the smell of fresh cookies was wafting in the air. I enjoyed going down to the common room to get some cookies and a few sodas/water, reading the paper. I was then able to pick out a movie from the vast collection that they had so my wife and I could relax watching a movie in our room. I also believe they have a movie room, but we didn't check that out. Breakfasts were interesting, as I am someone who can be particular about his food. But I enjoyed the eclectic mix of breakfast offerings while we were there and the muffins and bread were so tasty and freshly made. Steve was typically eating in the room himself, as the Inn was not overly busy. It was the attention to detail and charm of Steve and the Inn that made this such an enjoyable vacation. I would recommend going, as we are definitely planning for a return trip.

Yelp
I am writing this review as part of COVID-19 travel withdrawal. As we have been cooped up in the house we are thinking back about great destinations to which we have traveled over the past couple of years. The Inn at Pamlico Sound sound is at the top of our list, and we go as often as we can. We were last there in March 2020. Steve and the team do a fantastic job and we cannot wait to return. We first discovered this gem of the Outer Banks thanks to word of mouth. Work of mouth is a prime mode of advertising for them, hence this review. The location is secluded, romantic and picturesque. Inside, the rooms are fantastic and the onsite amenities, including bar and restaurant really give you all that you need for rest and recovery. The fit and finish, including little details (fresh cookies and fruit outside the room, optional sparkling wine and chocolate-covered strawberries on arrival, and available in-room dining for some rooms, Tesla destination charger), are thoughtful and noteworthy. Stepping outside, there are perfect views of the sound, a boardwalk along the water, and all in close proximity to quiet beaches and the ferry to Ocracoke. Best of all are the people. Really. The Inn at Pamlico Sound family is hospitable and goes out of its way to make you feel welcome. Dallas in particular captured our hearts. We had the best experience from a server, ever. From helping the bar craft the perfect old-fashioned (they have a GREAT bourbon selection) to expertly serving us dinner and dessert, we were constantly smiling. I think we even gave him a hug at the end, lol. Cannot wait to go back. I think you will feel the same.

Yelp
What a magical place. Having been evacuated from our rental house with Hurricane Florence on our tails, we spent the night here and had the most glorious dinner and swimming in the pool. Fantastic food, clean, friendly with exquisite views. A+ and will definitely be back.

Yelp
The staff here is amazing - so friendly, efficient and hard working. The morning breakfast is hearty and delicious. Make sure you order the Islander cocktail, which comes with a tasty slice of dried pineapple floating on top. It was life changing. The view over the sound is gorgeous and peaceful. Our room was a good size and clean. We absolutely loved our stay and would recommend The Inn to anyone looking for a relaxing stay.

Yelp
We just completed a two night stay at the Inn. It is off season so our experience may be different than yours. First - the included breakfast is to die for - we felt like we were eating at a five star restaurant right on the sound - with great food and views. The room itself was a typical beach venue room. Comfortable but nothing to write home about. The staff was gracious and welcoming and the little amenities including water bottles and baked goods were a nice touch. We would definitely stay there again. This was our first visit to the OBX. There is a beautiful and inviting pier on the property. A great place to sit and read and swim if it had been a bit warmer during our trip. There is also a pool but that was not open.

Yelp
Owner pushes his political views on dining guest. Within moments of us talking, the owner Steve informed us how he is for Biden; he doesn't care if the Republican people never eat or stay at his place and he would rather they didn't. Very negative for 2 people just trying to enjoy a romantic dinner. We came to get away from the chaos not be in it.

Yelp
Quaint. Beautiful. Friendly. Accommodating. Perfect! We could not have been more pleased with every aspect of our wedding at The Inn on Pamlico Sound. The prices were reasonable, the entire staff was as overly friendly and helpful and accommodating as could be, the food was incredible and the scenery simply could not be beat! We live in the Northeast, so not only did we have to plan and coordinate everything with Gina remotely while not getting to see the place until the day before the rehearsal dinner, but we also had to do everything within 4 months! And we were honesty impressed with how quickly and beautifully they pulled everything off! Gina, the wedding coordinator, was absolutely incredible. She is GREAT at what she does. We simply provided her with ideas of what we wanted, and she produced. . . exceeding our expectations. The entire staff was supremely accommodating to us and our guests - including special accommodations for elderly and slightly disabled guests as well as guests with food allergies. We also had to make some last-minute changes from dining outside to inside, and they pulled everything off with a smile and without a hitch! We'd also like to give a special shout out to a particular staff member, Dallas. While Gina handle all the big stuff, Dallas made sure each and every guest had anything and everything they needed, including striking up engaging conversation and virtually becoming a member of our family! And the SCENERY! And the SUNSET! You simply cannot find a better backdrop for your wedding. Period. It's breathtaking. We could not have imagined getting married anywhere else. If you're looking for a friendly, quaint, supremely accommodating venue for your wedding with unmatched scenery, then Inn on Pamlico Sound is your venue!

Yelp
We had to pass by vomit left on the dining deck for at least an hour as we and other guests took our drinks to the dock. Needless to say we lost our appetite for dinner and the owner was defensive rather than apologetic. They missed a lot of opportunities to make things better.

Yelp
We stayed at the Inn on Pamlico sound in June 2010 for the first half of our honeymoon (second half was spent in Charleston, SC). What a perfect place to unwind after our wedding. We stayed in the Jasmine suite and LOVED our private balcony and the gorgeous views--there's nothing better than watching the sun set over the sound. Steve and the staff were so friendly and accomodating, going out of their way to make us feel at home (and it really did feel like home!). We spent a lot of time at the beach so it was great that they had umbrellas, chairs, and boogie boards for us to take along. We ate dinner twice at the restaurant and our food was delicious. Our room was very cold at night (I'm a naturally cold person, though, it didn't bother my husband) and it was sometimes a little noisy during the evening with the restaurant right below our room and our window facing the outdoor entertaining space below. But, we enjoyed listening to the live music from our balcony and all was quiet by midnight. No big deal at all and otherwise it was very peaceful. Just something to be aware of, if you're sensitive to that kind of thing. We stayed Monday-Thursday. This was our first trip to the Outer Banks and we just fell in love with its beauty and laid-back atmosphere. We hope to return for our five-year anniversary. Bottom line: If you stay here -- you will not be disappointed. We were *so* sad when we had to leave and now when I'm feeling stressed, I just imagine my "happy place": In a rocking chair on the balcony of the Jasmine suite at dusk, a light breeze on my face, the sea grass swaying. Heaven! Other places we enjoyed in the OBX: Frisco Sandwich Company, Burger Burger, Papa Nino's Pizza, Buxton Munch (get the fish tacos or crab cake sandwich), Outer Banks Books, Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum, and Captin' Easy's Gourmet (a little gourmet cheese/wine/beer shop).

Yelp
The Inn's catering service was good but also disappointing. I'm rounding up our star rating - my husband would give them a 2 or a 3. They catered our 36-person wedding dinner on July 17th, and I personally enjoyed my meal. However, the next day I was disappointed to learn that our guests did not have the same experience that I did. The crew did not bring the correct number of meals, which meant that some of our guests didn't get what they'd requested (surf and turf missing the lobster or replaced with lobster and small piece of a salmon filet or 2 lobster tails-a delicious substitution, but not nearly enough food-I don't know exactly what everyone had because I'm a little embarrassed to ask), and, worse: other guests had their dinners divided up to make up for the missing food. That must explain why my father was waiting for his salmon plate for over 5 minutes after the rest of my table was served, some had small portions, and it seemed like they were serving dinner for such a long time. We had to go ahead and start eating before everyone at my table was served because the food was getting cold. My (now) husband's filet was overcooked...my sister and I had the correct cook temperature (medium rare). I don't know how the other steaks were cooked. Hours before the meal, I left a map of the tables with each guest's name and exact meal choice, as well as the overall numbers of each dinner selection at each table as a per-table summary. We didn't start on our salads until nearly 8pm. Why weren't other meals brought over from the local restaurant on the fly? Gina and Steve were both very nice on the phone, and Gina did comp the meals that were not served (but since they weren't served, I wouldn't have expected to have to pay for them, anyway!). The next day there was some confusion about picking up the rented chairs and tables, too, but Gina and her husband came over after the work day to take them away. While planning the wedding reception, it was challenging to talk on the phone (two missed scheduled phone calls due to time zone confusion, even though I specified MST). The pricing is supposed to be very clear, but all of the prices are hidden. You must choose your meals from a large catering menu without prices and then wait to hear back on the overall costs. When we selected The Inn on Pamlico Sound they told us that they strive to meet or exceed expectations; unfortunately, this fell a bit short.

Yelp
The Inn on Pamlico hosted my sister's wedding just recently and did a phenomenal job. We had the entire place to ourselves with the exception of guests having dinner at the restaurant on Friday night. The wedding meal was excellent. My sister asked for surf and turf and both the fish and steak were amazing. This was NOT hotel food, it was an enjoyable meal with lovely roasted potatoes and al dente vegetables. Steak was tender and fish was fresh, both were cooked perfectly. The hors d'oeuvres were fantastic as well. Shrimp skewers were amazing, real NC shrimp, not those awful frozen cocktail shrimp served at most events. There is a picture of me at the wedding with a plate of them looking happier to have those shrimp than I am to see my sister get married. I'm not sure if that is a compliment to the chef or an embarrassment for me as a person. The pesto for the vegetables at cocktail hour was so delicious I was hovering over it. Usually food is really bad at weddings, not so with my sisters. Our party had breakfast at the Inn on multiple mornings and it was fantastic. Each day was a three course meal with choice of first, second and third course. Loved the daily omelet, kids and hubby enjoyed the waffle. I much preferred the actual new potatoes to the fried has browns. The muffins were fantastic, get the muffin of the day, forget the croissant or the toast. I would recommend they vary the omelet ingredients by day, it can get old eating the same omelet three mornings in a row. They have lovely outdoor seating and a small intimate bar area for cocktails before your meal. The dining room is small so call first to make a reservation. As for the Inn, our accommodations were lovely. The room was spacious with a King sized bed and pull out couch in the Magnolia Room. We had a large deck with a view of the sound to sit out on and drink coffee. We enjoyed lazing by the pool, kayaking and paddle boarding with the Inn's equipment during our stay. In the common area there is a refrigerator stocked with sodas and water you may help yourself to and fresh cookies appear nightly. There is also fruit available throughout the day. Your room has a snack basket but it will not be refilled you've been warned, don't eat all your M&M's and expect them to reappear. Don't expect the Ritz, this is not it. It's a lovely property, but it's an Inn, with a small wonderful staff, not a huge resort property. If you are looking for a Ritz/Waldorf atmosphere this is not your type of place.

Yelp
The hubby and I stayed here for New Years. We had dinner at the Inn New Year's Eve and it was amazing! It was a 6 course meal with a wine paring with each course....did I say amazing?!? It was worth every penny we paid for the meal. As far as the room we stayed two nights I sunflower and it was good as well, coffee is served in the morning and in the afternoons in the common area. We had breakfast, which is included with the room rate, both mornings, it was very good. The views from the dining room and our room were awesome! Could not have asked for a better get away. The staff is also very friendly and more than willing to go out of their way to make your stay amazing. I would hope my hubby will plan another trip out to OBX again to stay at the Inn!

Yelp
What started as a romantic 1 night getaway, turned in to a 4 night stay due to road closures and the staff and facility were amazing and accommodating the entire time. We will return and highly recommend to anyone who needs to relax. Rooms were cozy, restaurant was delicious both breakfast and dinner. Service was nothing short of spectacular. This little piece of heaven has created memories we will not soon forget. Great spot to visit!

Yelp
We hired the Inn on Pamlico Sound to cater our wedding last minute (we are talking like a month before the date). Chef Forrest was very accommodating to dietary restrictions, and working with not only myself, but my mother and mother-in-law. He listened to all of our concerns and produced a WONDERFUL meal. They came to our rental house, took over the kitchen and got to work. There were several different appetizers which included crab cakes, bruschetta tasting (the tarragon shrimp salad and crushed olive tapenade were my favorites). Entrees included pan roasted chicken, grilled vegetable pasta and wild rice pilaf. The only complaint...no leftover shrimp salad!

Yelp
I had my wedding here and I just cannot say enough about the way we were accommodated and treated during the entire experience. The common theme throughout the night was that this was the best wedding many of our guests had ever been to. Jennifer was on top of everything and Forrest was so helpful in choosing our menu. They met with us several times during the yearlong process of planning and were so helpful with all of our questions and concerns. They really made the process so much easier! The food was stellar, not just on the wedding night, but all the included brunches provided to our guests at the Inn were also fantastic. I am still thinking about the pancakes I ordered on Sunday morning. If you're planning your wedding here, rest assured that the staff is absolutely on top of everything and your wedding will go off without a hitch. Also, follow their vendors list, because those were great too. I have grown very fond of everyone at the Inn and can't wait to come back to visit! (And grab a peanut butter cookie...hello!)

Yelp
We had our wedding here this summer and it was the perfect place to have a wedding! Regarding our stay- The days before and after the wedding were so calm and relaxing at the Inn. It was so nice to lay by the pool and listen to the jazz music playing on the surround sound, use the kayaks, paddleboards, relax on the balcony. All of our family and friends raved about the Inn! We all had so much fun, the staff was so sweet and accommodating! Regarding our wedding- The food was AMAZING, the cocktail hour and dinner service was excellent, the Inn was very accommodating throughout the whole night! The location was perfect! We can't wait to go back and visit again one day!

Yelp
Great spot to stay for a two day stay in Cape Hatt. Awesome staff and owner. They were friendly and helpful. Super close to site seeing spots. Def recommend this!

Yelp
Stayed here for two nights during the week in the off season with my fiance. Pretty pricey, we probably spent $400 during our whole stay, which includes two nights and one dinner. Definitely worth it considering how comfortable our stay was. Breakfast was free and absolutely delicious, I had their big country breakfast and it was prepared beautifully by the chef in training. The most memorable are the homemade biscuits. Remember to tip your server! We stayed in the Sea Oats room which was spacious with a king bed, sofa, dresser and TV with DVD player. There's also a private deck that you can see toward the front of the inn and the back, the Sound. The bathroom, by far is the highlight of the room with a spacious jetted tub with 2 separate shower heads. The inn has a ginormous DVD collection that you can borrow from and watch in your room or in the theater downstairs. The inn also has a lot of different lounging areas so you don't have to feel confined to your room, rain or shine. Dinner here was an amazing experience. Be sure to make a reservation so you know they'll have space for you or in off season, they'll be open. Ordered the scallops for an appetizer. I have a feeling any seafood here is going to be tasty. The server told us that the chef liked to change the menu every season. Parking is all in the front and pretty straight forward.
