15 Best Hotels in Portland, Maine

"Located on scenic Peaks Island in Casco Bay, The Inn on Peaks Island has unbeatable views and vibes, with just six guest rooms as well as a popular pub with items like haddock tacos and lobster sliders. All of the suites are named after other Maine islands; the Great Diamond, for instance, has cathedral-style ceilings, a king canopy bed, a hot tub, and stunning views from the balcony. The experience and the scenery more than justify the 15-minute ferry ride from the mainland. If you're worried you won't have enough to do out on the island, don't: Peaks Island has more activities than other Casco Bay islands, including kayak rentals, sailing charters, and museums to visit." - Joe Ricchio, Alexandra Hall

The Inn on Peaks Island

"Why did this hotel catch your attention?Located on scenic Peaks Island in Casco Bay, The Inn on Peaks Island has unbeatable views and vibes, with just six guest rooms and a popular pub. The overall experience more than justifies the 15-minute ferry ride from the mainland. Tell us all about the rooms. All of the suites are named after other Maine islands; the Great Diamond, for instance, has cathedral-style ceilings, a king canopy bed, a hot tub, and stunning views from the balcony. Is there a charge for Wi-Fi?Wi-Fi is complimentary. Drinking and dining—what are we looking at?The restaurant does Maine-influenced pub food and does it well, with items like haddock tacos and lobster sliders. After 5 p.m., the menu expands with additional entrées, including cioppino and surf 'n' turf. If the weather cooperates you should eat outside. And the service? Pretty straightforward: your needs will be met, but service is nothing extraordinary. What about the neighborhood? What else can we do around here?Peaks Island has more activities than other islands in Casco Bay, including kayak rentals, sailing trips, and art galleries to visit. Bottom line: Why are we choosing Inn at Peaks Island?Like most hotels in this part of Maine, Inn at Peaks Island tends to be more about the scenery than the actual accommodations. But here, that's more than enough. Need an extra push? This is one of the more reasonably priced island hotels in the area, too." - Joe Ricchio

My wife and I stayed here for two nights in early August and had lunch here one of the days. We stayed in the ram Island suite which included a king bed, living room, refrigerator, back patio area, as well as a balcony that overlooked the main hill leading down to the ferry. We were very pleased with the suite as a whole. We did not bump into or interact with any of the other guests that were staying at the Inn, which speaks on the quietness of the inn itself. There is no front desk for the inn itself, so all questions have to be addressed to the restaurant staff if you have them or call the number listed in the room. The location of the Inn could not be any better. It is just up the hill after getting off the ferry that is required to get to the island. It is a $14 round-trip from Portland to the island and back. The ferry takes about 15 minutes and honestly is a great view of Casco Bay and the surrounding area. We had lunch at a rather busy time and had no complaints similar to some of the other reviews on here. We had the burger, fish tacos, french fries and beers. Staff was friendly and service was quick. All the surrounding tables seem to have timely service as well. There are a limited number of restaurants on the island and this is a great option.

Came here for a group lobster bake with a ships tour group. I guess the whole show was the lobster lunch which was actually quite superb withe mussels, corn, potato, lemonade and a sliver of dessert. But the staffing was short and although we sat next to a bar and I asked for a beer, the staff were too busy to serve me. Kinda weird, the idea was to get us in and get us out. Disappointing as there isn't much of anything else in the area as you wait for the next ferry to get back to Portland.

We came for dinner as there were no other places on the island that were open for service. The restaurant is adorable, people were pleasant, but the food was awful. We had the chowder, chicken sandwich and fish tacos. The chowder was salty and tasteless. The fish taco combination was off- avocado mash with fried fish? And the chicken sandwich had the same sauce as the fish tacos. Just odd. The coleslaw was also not edible as it had a sour taste. I warned my husband not to eat his. Overall, disappointing and extremely expensive. With the few items we had and no drinks beyond water and lemonade, our bill was more than any dinner we’ve had during our stay (including great restaurants in Portland). We are a family of five (all over the age of 16).

We were there for a wedding and the staff was amazing. Even though there was rain, they made the place look beautiful.

Get off the ferry & there’s Inn on the Peaks just a short walk up the hill! We had such a great view from our porch, watching the ferry & watching the island come to life in the morning. We brought bikes to ride around the island- it’s a beautiful ocean view & stunning houses/gardens. ( or you can rent bikes) We did burger night at the Lions club-a quick walk down the street, it was amazing.( great food & live music)

Google
This restaurant was a great place to eat this summer, the staff was fantastic…. Only one negative… the allow dogs in the outside eating area.. this particular day a couple came in with 2 dogs, both dogs whined loudly during the whole meal because they wanted their owners to share food with them, then the dogs put the paws on the table and started licking the table, and finally the smaller dog decided to take a piss! This was nasty and unsanitary. I didn’t pay my money to enjoy my meal for this! DOGS should NOT be allowed in certain places,,,, like restaurants!!!! And before you do lovers lose your minds… I have a dog that I love dearly, but I would never impose him on other people at a restaurant! Management at Peaks Inn,,, maybe you want to revisit your dog in your restaurant policy? (And I have pictures of this dog activity if needed)

FALL IS AMAZING HERE - Such an awesome experience for a great price. We were looking for hotels in Portland where good rooms are very expensive, when we realized it would cost far less to stay on the island in a huge suite with a view, and get a scenic boat ride out of it as well. It worked out amazingly well. We checked in then caught the fairy back to Portland to complete our business, returned for dinner in a small restaurant down the street, and on the way back stopped in the grocery store to purchase wine and snacks for the room. We had time for an evening stroll around the island to watch the sunset, before retiring to our spacious suite. It was so much more than we expected. Our room looked on to the docks and sea. Our boat ride from Portland and back was one of the most scenic rides we’ve ever taken.

Yelp
Great customer service with a view. The beers are nice and cold and serviced with a smile. Nice and clean establishment, the special drink are amazing as well.

Yelp
My review is really for the restaurant. Didn't have the highest expectations, but I was pleasantly surprised!! Fish tacos are fantastic!! Our server, Ramone, was so great!! Would definitely recommend if you are staying on Peaks.

Yelp
We came during off season which meant nothing was open. The room was quaint. It had a queen size bed, gas fireplace/heater, small couch, mini fridge, and coffee machine. The bathroom had a jacuzzi tub/shower with 2 sinks (one was outside the bathroom). There was a community microwave in the hall outside our room. The island has a beautiful 4 mile long scenic walk along the beach. The restaurant attached to the inn Was closed. The grocery store down the road was open from 8am-6pm but stopped making pizza at 5:15pm. The restaurant next to it was open from 3-8 but you need to make a reservation for dinner because it's very small and you might not get a table. The Inn Staff were very responsive to texts and got us some disposable plates and silverware when we asked for it. They also let us have a late check out which we really appreciated! The view from our room would have been nice if the desk chairs were taller or the railing was lower. Your eye level was a wooden rail and some power lines. Overall the island was lovely and easy to get to but I wouldn't come during off season and I definitely wouldn't pay more than we did for the space. If the Inn was actually more of a Bed and Breakfast then I'd give them more money!

Yelp
Resident of Peaks Island here. The headline here is that you can find several other places on the Island that are more worthy of your hard-earned discretionary spending than the restaurant and pub at The Inn. More specifically, the restaurant and pub part of the business has fallen off a cliff. For the 10 years I have been a part of the Peaks Island community, the Inn has been a true staple of our dining and socializing in spite of it having gotten progressively worse each season, and culminating with the start of the 2024 season. I have been a loyal Mug Club member and probably good for 3-5 dining and/or drink checks per week for years. But no longer. The highlights so far from late spring 2024. 1 - "Is the Inn going to open this year?" Too much mystery surrounding the opening of the restaurant and pub. 2 - "The Inn will be open Thursday to Sunday ONLY." Well, at least we have some clarity there. 3 - "The Inn will be open only until 9 p.m." Fair enough. 4 - "Sir, I realize you arrived at 8 p.m. on a Saturday evening, but the kitchen is no longer taking food orders." This is where things objectively have started to go sideways. 5 - A 12-oz. can of Miller Lite is now $7.50. Across the street it is $4. 6 - Did I mention that a 12-oz. can of Miller Lite is now $7.50? 7 - Reduced menu, no entrees. 8 - Ingredients straight from the Sysco freezer. 9 - The 10th consecutive year of a seemingly all new staff. Major issues with retention are a "tell," especially when other establishments have familiar faces season after season. I don't suppose any one of these observations alone are fatal; but taken collectively it signals that the restaurant and pub have little interest in serving the Peaks community - residents, seasonal residents nor visitors - and they care only about their events business (something I understand they do quite well). Speaking of which, two years ago I called and emailed the Inn repeatedly about having a fall corporate event there, and never received any response.

Yelp
Wow, i cant say enough positive things about this place. We had our wedding there last weekend and we wanted it sweet and romantic, a beautiful celebration with our family. Jayson was an amazing host and could not have been nicer. He helped us to prepare everything, had everything arranged for a smooth, fantastic wedding and the location was just breath taking. The food was very delicious. The Oysters as fresh as they could be and the service, just unbelievably nice. I will never forget this day and thanks to Jayson and staff it was the best experience we could have asked for.

Yelp
The Inn is located a block and to the right of where the ship docks. We decided to stop by here based on reviews I've read about the lobster roll. It seems like it's only 3.5 stars on Yelp due to service issues. Our waitress was super friendly and available, however, our hostess wasn't very helpful. She tried to seat us in the enclosed outdoor seating area without any actual sun or breeze exposure when there were empty tables in the patio. When we asked for one of those tables, she seemed sad and told us it was ok but that the tables needed to be cleaned. She then left us standing there without really telling us which dirty table we could take once it was cleaned. We weren't sure then if we could seat ourselves or if we needed to wait for her to come back or wait for permission from another person to take the table. Fortunately, we are both more assertive people and asked to be seated when we saw that one of the tables was ready. My friend had wine while I was drawn in by the plentiful options of beer on draft. I really enjoyed the shipyard stout and blue paw. We split the queso dip, which was great but in retrospect, we should've skipped the app given how full we were after the drinks and our entree. I got a lobster roll, the cold mayo version with a side order of fries. My friend got the hot butter lobster roll with fries. They did not skimp on the lobster at all! It was well worth it! The fries were great too. This is definitely a place to go to feast on a delicious substantive lobster roll.

Yelp
Came here for some drinks and appetizers on our excursion on Peaks Island. The host, a younger girl was outstanding and extremely welcoming. Our server however was not at all friendly or welcoming. She seemed bothered that we only ordered drinks and appetizers. Did not seem to care and gave bare minimum service.

Yelp
I used to come here for years since I was born. We went every summer. This is the first summer we only went a single time through four months. The food is now almost entirely frozen, extremely expensive, and a cheap beer at the bar is $9. It's not even close to worth what they charge for. I hope they go back to serving good food but I doubt the idiot that owns this place would even consider it.

Yelp
Stayed here in May so just before prime tourist season. We rented the top floor and had 12 guests of all ages. This was a great way to spend time with family and have an apartment style setup so it was not too much like a hotel. The rooms were spacious the "kid" room was not quite as big but perfect for them. We ate lunch/dinner at the Inn and had a good meal with plenty of drinks. The staff was friendly and helpful. We have decided to meet out here yearly for some family time so I guess that says a lot.
google avatar

Jason K.

Yelp
Convenient location to the ferry landing for lunch/drinks/dinner. The prices are a bit overpriced. Lobster roll $45 when other restaurants are charging $25-$30. Would go for drinks..not a meal.
google avatar

Yelp
Service gets five stars in the person of Karen and John- The ferry disgorged day trippers from the 11:15 and 12:15 runs. Many descended upon the Inn, some bringing their airs of entitlement with them. The wait staff handled the crush beautifully. Burgers were good too.

Yelp
Picture perfect hotel in a gorgeous location. The Inn at Peaks is located on the scenic Peaks Island, just right off the coast of Portland. Hop off the ferry and you'll see the Inn just a few feet ahead perched on top of the hill. The Inn is modeled to look like a house, and I loved how cozy and intimate it was. My guess is that the hotel only has around 20 rooms. I stayed in an apartment style room and it was absolutely massive. Four large bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room and a mini kitchen. Each bedroom had several beds, and the apartment could easily sleep 10-12 people. The room is around $1,000 dollars a night on a summer weekend. But if you end up being able to fill all the beds you could almost be getting a better deal than most of the hotels downtown with smaller rooms. Plus if you have a large group it's a really fun set up. The hotel has a restaurant with a ton of outdoor seating on the porch. Perfect for sitting outside and enjoying an Allagash and a lobster roll. The main reason that I stayed at the Inn was because my friend got married here. The hotel put together one heck of a wedding -- all of the staff and coordinators were extremely attentive and the food was delicious. I had filet topped with some sort of bacon butter and it was out of this world good. There were also crab cakes and lobster rolls served at the cocktail hour which is an absolute treat. The space has the perfect flow for a wedding. The ceremony was outside on the grass, then everyone moved into the tent for cocktails + dinner, and then the party flowed inside where there are bars, a dance floor and ample space for a band. And at the end of the night you can make your way to the hotel bar for an after party. Great hotel and lovely spot for a wedding in a beautiful location --what more could ya want?!

Yelp
The Inn was recommended by a nice lady we met at the Ferry. Food was very tasty, every one was friendly, our waiter was nice and courteous, made you feel welcome. We would go back again.

Yelp
Service was great here! I luv my waitress even though I forgot her name. The crab roll was decent along with the fries, but the calamari was yummy along with the fresh oysters! Yum!! The place was nice and clean. I give it a 4, but will I take a ferry just to eat here.. nope. Unless I am on the island for a reason.

Yelp
After arriving on Peaks Island, there weren't many food options. Due to a shellfish allergy, The Inn on Peaks Island seemed like a better choice. They offered both indoor and outdoor seating. Due to humid weather, we decided to sit indoors. Our server Megan C. was friendly and attentive. We cooled off with refreshing drinks - Peaks Island Summer Punch and Smashed Cherry and Basil Old Fashioned. The Peaks Island Summer Punch consisted of Goslings Ginger Beer, Malibu Coconut Rum, OJ, Honey, and Grenadine shaken, served on the rocks, and garnished with a pineapple wedge and orange slice. The Smashed Cherry and Basil Old Fashioned consisted of amerena cherry, basil, bulletin bourbon, blood orange, sugar, and bitters, shaken and served on the rocks. Brendan wasn't that hungry yet so he enjoyed Buffalo Wings, which consisted of chicken wings dipped in buffalo sauce fried and served with carrot and celery sticks and bleu cheese dipping sauce. I enjoyed the Reuben sandwich, which consisted of house cooked corned beef, sauerkraut, melted swiss cheese, and russian dressing on toasted marbled rye. I upgraded my fries for side caesar salad, which consisted of romaine lettuce tossed in caesar dressing and garnished with shaved parmesan and herb croutons. The side caesar salad was delicious but it was such a small portion for a $3 upgrade.

Yelp
Came here for a wedding and following reception including overnight accommodations. The Inn is a beautiful setting for a wedding and all of the logistics from my perspective came off really well. The food at the reception was very well done, having sampled the butternut squash ravioli, and the filet mignon. We also had both breakfast and lunch at the restaurant and found the food to be well executed and service to be acceptable. Accommodations were clean and spacious, and overall we had a very nice weekend. Solid four stars.

Yelp
We had our first trip out to peaks island over the weekend. We took the ferry and rented out bikes and traveled the small island for the day. One of the best parts was stopping in for lunch at The Inn on Peaks Island. We first ordered drinks and apps, which were both delicious. We got the queso cheese with added sides, including chorizo! The menu wasn't huge, which is kind of nice. While the menu wasn't huge, what was on the menu was an awesome mix of home style and fancy meals with a twist. My companions got the fish n chips and a turkey sandwich. I got the fried chicken with an herb mayonnaise that really just made the whole sandwich. It was very very good. The Inn is apart of the same family that owns seadog breweries and federal jacks. The food is very different then the pub style food they offer at the other locations. It makes the Inn, unique within the family. You don't have to be a staying guest to eat at the inn, so stop on by and see what they have to offer! We happened to step in during in between peak hours and we were sat immediately. We had a great time, with great food and good service. Delicious !!

Yelp
First off...the waitress was absolutely amazing But, omg the bartender was MISERABLE! Not friendly at all, snarling and snarky We stayed for one and LEFT Now back to lunch Portions were small but very good- Drinks were tasty Views spectacular Go for lunch, skip the $$$ seafood soup and stick with a main dish Steer clear of the bar-she won't want you!

Kay S.

Yelp
Whar What a shame to treat a clam so badly. We were excited to get to a coastal restaurant where we could order fried clams. They came out soggy and lukewarm, so we sent them back. They came back overdone and oversalted. My husband was hungry and the wait person was excellent, so we accepted the order. Shame on us for doing that, and the kitchen for serving up such a mess of glop.
google avatar

Tonya G.

Yelp
Great food and service. We eat at the Inn often as residents of the island. Grateful for such a wonderful option on the island.

Judi C.

Yelp
Our party of five had excellent service and meal this evening. The BEST part is one person must eat gluten free. The Inn has an extensive menu that is carefully constructed for gluten free diners who are able to eat even the fried foods. We checked with the chef to verify. Our server was prompt, gracious and accommodating. Our meals were delivered exceedingly quickly and all piping hot. It's exciting that the Inn is so good this year. (That has not always been the case...we are island residents and the quality has sometimes varied in the past...NOT this year!!! And this was not our first visit this year)
google avatar

Joel S.

Yelp
Very solid comfort/bar food. Can't go wrong with a good burger, panini, or fish tacos. And honestly, it was just nice to have a break from lobster roll palooza. Would come back anytime, especially for lunch.
google avatar

Katrina W.

Yelp
There aren't many restaurant options on peaks island but we really lucked out with the inn. We were able to snag the last table on the patio and it was a beautiful view. I ordered the blackberry soda and vodka cocktail and it was amazing! So refreshing and not too sweet. I ordered the salmon BLT and it was wonderful. Huge slices of bacon, smoked salmon, and delicious aioli on flatbread. I did not get many sweet potato fries on the side and they were cold, but the sandwich really made up for it. We had a lovely lunch and the hostesses and waitress were very friendly. Definitely a great spot.
google avatar

Anh N.

Yelp
Ate lunch at the Inn on Peaks Island restaurant after biking around the island in the morning and taking the ferry over from Portland. There are not a lot of restaurant options on the island, but after looking at all of the menus, this looked like the best option, right across from the ferry dock. We had the blackened haddock tacos and sandwich. The haddock was quite tasty but the fries were kind of soggy and squishy. We ate on the patio with the view of the water, and the staff was quite nice and attentive. Overall not a bad choice for lunch if you are in Peaks Island.

Chris B.

Yelp
If you like breakfast and the smell of trash plus exhaust smells this is the place for you, have a seat on the patio as a big red Ford pickup backs up and stays running as the trash is wheeled out between the tables like it's today's special. You'd think a place as nice as this would do this before/after hours.
google avatar

Michelle T.

Yelp
Understand that when you "trapped" on a little island, your food choices are limited. Skip with seafood pasta as the seafood is most DEFINITELY Frozen and flavors reminded me of college cooking. The nachos were ok. Nice and big...you can't go wrong with melted cheese on top of chips. Don't order this if you are not a fan of very greasy tortilla chips.

Yelp
So...I was on Peaks Island after hitching a ride over with my husband on his band truck. He was bringing over all of his equipment for a wedding the next day. Once everything was parked and secured we walked over to the Inn on Peaks for dinner. It was a Friday night and the pub was busy. There were people at the bar, people at the high tops and people at the tables. Luckily, there was on available table, and we took it. The crowd was definitely local, but warm and friendly. We even ran into someone we knew from way back when our oldest son was in middle school. After perusing the menu, I settled on a caesar salad with chicken and my husband ordered fish tacos. We also picked mussels in coconut milk as an appetizer. The mussels were plump and fresh and the coconut broth was terrific. They came with 4 small toast pieces and we definitely could have used a few more. My Caesar with chicken was generous, with lots of lettuce, a nice dressing and some shaved parmesan. The grilled chicken was warm, although, again, I would have liked a little bit more. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his fish tacos. They looked great, with blackened fish and a fresh slaw on top. They also came with a side of coleslaw that he said was great. We lingered a little bit, but there was a VERY drunk table of women, having a wonderful time, who would sometimes scream to punctuate a point, which was jarring and definitely interrupted any kind of possible conversation at our table. They actually ended up following us outside as we exited. As we walked back to the ferry, they all boarded onto a golf cart, still screaming into the night. Yikes!
google avatar

Amanda C.

Yelp
We had a great dinner outside on their patio. Fish tacos were delicious, as were the steak tips that my husband ordered. Good options for kids as well and really good service.
google avatar

Krista L.

Yelp
Food was good and no wait. The only suggestion I would have is to make a portion of the menu kid friendly. The tables were a little closer than was comfortable for me, especially in the face of rising COVID cases. The service was wonderful!

Yelp
Darn it. It's so romantic in here. The sun, the breeze, the food, the view... I mean really I felt like I came out of those fancy causal resto movie/ show.. ie like the affair or Batman (dark knight when Alfred was chilling in the back ground looking out for Bruce) And mind you I had three tots along with me and my sis! ( I knoowww, so glamorous /endsarcasticfont) Btw I love that calamari

Yelp
Came over to Peaks Island for the Bob Marley comedy show, so this review is for the setup/organizing of that event, not of the restaurant or the Inn. Great job with organizing and explaining things. They created this little lounge area to the right of the "stage" and behind it, which appeared to be new to Bob, as when he saw it was a bit confused "These people are looking at my..." anyways. The only reason it's not 5 stars is they turned on this stupidly bright light to shine at the "stage" area. I needed my sunglasses to "see" the action, and even then, didn't always see what antics Bob was up to. You don't need the spotlight....so next time, ditch it. Great show for sure! Always a great time watching/listening to Bob perform. One more "strange" thing....seems the ticket included a buffet? But that wasn't mentioned anywhere on the ticket or the website or anything. What's with that? We didn't take part in it, since we'd already had dinner down the street.
google avatar

Jessica O.

Yelp
Your options for food are limited on the island so we decided to give the Inn a try. We started with a few appetizers including the hummus appetizer. The appetizers were delicious!!! The hummus appetizer came with a large variety of vegetables and 2 amazing dips it's also very filling. For our entrees I had the blackened haddock sandwich which was covered in spice and I couldn't stomach it so I'm glad the appetizers were filling. Each meal comes with traditional sides like coleslaw and for an extra $2.50 (watch out this price is not mentioned on the menu, a bit steep for the options and our server made it sound like price was nothing to upgrade) you can get fries, sweet potatoes fries, salad etc. Our service was ok and it was nice that they allowed dogs on the patio.

Yelp
Once I got off the ferry my wife and I headed to the Inn on Peaks Island. I ordered a Blueberry Hill which is a mix of blueberry soda and Vanessa vodka topped off with fresh Maine blueberries. The scene was set and the drinks were fantastic. We ordered a haddock sandwich, which we shared along with the humus plate. The haddock sandwich was perfectly cooked and came with a side salad, however the dish of the day was the humus plate. It arrived with an enormous amount of veggies with plenty of pita chips and lots and I mean lots of fresh Greek olives. My wife and I will definitely come back here again.
google avatar

Rachael L.

Yelp
The nachos were excellent!!!! And the lobster fritters were amazing! The service was a little slow, but they seemed overly swapped for a Sunday afternoon.
google avatar

Terence O.

Yelp
Growing up spending a good portion of the summer on the Island, the only real downside was the lack of options for restaurants aside from having to take the ferry over to Portland. The only options were really Feenys or Jones Landing. When the Inn opened, it provided an excellent And more upscale dining option. On the weekends it will most often be crowded as it's a popular wedding venue on both Saturday and Sunday. The food is nothing spectacular, but given the island location that's kind of to be expected. The bar can provide good entertainment as guests begin to filter out of the wedding reception.
google avatar

Tor B.

Yelp
Love the Inn on Peaks! The weddings there are amazing and so beautiful! Many people I know who have attended weddings rave about the food. The pub is a great atmosphere, they have live music and have dramatically increased the size of their menu this year, love all the options. My favorite salad is the shrimp and corn!

Arthur F.

Yelp
We live just a block from the Inn, and this has been an easy place to go to for a simple meal. I think I had my last meal there yesterday! * The background music was a HUGE HUGE distraction. I asked the waitress to have it turned down, and it was -- for about 10 minutes. When I asked again, she said, "Sorry they turned it up on me." Yes, it went down again, for about 20 minutes. I didn't have the heart to ask that it be turned down again, but I surely didn't want to sit much longer right under one of the many loud speakers. * My hamburger was ordered rare. It came well done. When I said that I had wanted it rare, they did re-make it -- raw. I didn't have the heart to send it back again, but that's clearly what I should have done * We started with six oysters, that the waitress said were large. They were, in fact, tiny. * At best, some of the food we received was passable -- no better. Next time I'll walk another block or two to The Cockeyed Gull, and know that I'll have a more enjoyable and tasty meal in quiet and more pleasant surroundings. I wish that I could find one aspect of our meal at the Inn on Peaks to praise, and usually I'm pretty creative, but no, the Inn on Peaks has really lost it. $61 + tip down the tube!

Yelp
Good place to sit outside on a nice day and have a beer or two. The waitress was busy but after she gave us our beers she came back and apologized, saying she gave us the wrong beers by mistake. Not that we would have known because the taste was similar, but she was nice to come back.

Yelp
I'm going to give this place the benefit of the doubt that they have a staff shortage due to the pandemic. That being said, the table we were seated at was not super clean and it took about 20 mins for us to place drink orders. Food orders came another 10 minutes later. All in all, it took just over an hour from being seated until food landed - and at that point we had to ask for the check and some to go containers so we didn't miss the ferry. Our server was okay but probably overwhelmed. The bloody mary was served with raw bacon and little no no alcohol. I probably won't return, but I'm also not typically the type to choose tourists traps like this spot.

Yelp
Really 3.5 We came here for an early lunch so that we could catch the ferry back to Portland and do some shopping. Since we were early there were plenty of seats; however, there were several families with young kids spread throughout...lots of crying. The service from the host and waiter were very good. The food was good as well. My main complaint was the unending presence of a few flies. I joked if they could do something about it. The waiter explained that they observed more flies after the nearby fence was put up. Oh well, somethings (crying kids and flies) to consider if you want to come here.

Yelp
Never had a bad lunch at the restaurant. Delicious, filling, and a great way to start your adventure after the boat ride to the island. My family loves the outdoor seating and hospitality of the hosts. The gentleman who sat us was kind and polite. Our waitperson was attentive and helpful. It's a must-have when we visit. Try it out!

Yelp
Great evening riding over on the ferry- customer service was good for the most part. I had called ahead to make sure they would be open- and when arrived the table was set for us- and the place was virtually empty- just one other party- I was a little worried but the food did not disappoint! I had the princess chowder - it was my favorite part of the meal- I was worried something so rich would upset my stomach but not at all/ quite the opposite- my friends ordered the lobster Mac and cheese- I think it had a whole lobster on- the salads had homemade dressing and... the fish tacos were also pretty good - the beer was cold and the blueberry beer had real blueberries floating and I loved it! All in all it was a great experience! The ferry ride fascinated us! We see water about once every 10 years so this was super exciting! The reason for three stars: waiter tried to remember our order without writing anything down and confused an order- then asked the person to please just keep what he brought so he wouldn't upset the chef-one person had almost no lobster on their Mac and cheese and the atmosphere was a bit out dated.

Yelp
My lobster bisk was cold and did not have a whole lot of flavor. They did warm it up or maybe replace it. The Mussels where good but with only one piece of bread, so we asked for more bread and was charged 1.50 for two small pieces. Not bad but, not what I expected either.

Yelp
We stayed at the inn for a wedding weekend and had the third floor suite. The inn itself was nice, cozy and had a beautiful front porch to sit on overlooking the ocean. A great spot for a cocktail. The ferry comes in right at the bottom of the hill so the location really can't be beat. You can walk to all the little stores in town. The amenities were good, the master suite bathroom unbelievably. A huge space with a big jetted tub and glass shower, double vanity. I had one issue with the suite and that was cleanliness. There was a ton of dust, and actual hair balls under the beds, dust and old food (macaroni) under the couches in the living room- they were well cleaned. We have a one year old that find (and tries to eat) everything so keeping her from other people's old pieces of food and hair was pretty gross. The beds are raised up off the floor so it's easy to get under them- I'm not sure why it wasn't cleaned a bit better especially considering the cost. As others have noted the staff is seasonal and kind of aloof. Wedding food was amazing.

Yelp
Had the hummus appetizer and the Salmon BLT. Both were really good and the ingredients were fresh. The Salmon BLT included raw salmon on a flatbread. Our server was nice and polite plus the place is Dog friendly. Only downside, basic sides cost such as fries cost extra.

Yelp
We stopped in for drinks and we're told that a table would be at least 30 minutes. We asked to just sit in the bar. When we got over there, there were only four stills and three were occupied. We asked if we could just sit at a high top in the bar and a sweet young man went to find out. He came back and told us to go ahead. We noticed a ton of empty tables which leads me to believe they do not have enough wait staff.

Yelp
Went there on a busy post holiday day. The restaurant was not super crowded, but slow slow slow. The fish tacos had more arugula than fish, the veggie burger was like cat food, and my shrimp on my salad were raw. The bacon wrapped scallops were like frozen from a store. Don't waste your time or money here.

Yelp
I rarely complain but this was the worst restaurant I've experienced in a long time. My daughters kids pasta was rubbery and crunchy. The clam chow arrived with a hair in it. The manager graciously comped half our bill and offered a free dessert. The dessert was on the menu as a triple chocolate brownie with chocolate ganache and three scoops of ice cream. My daughter was excited for it until us showed up with a dry tasteless brownie, peanut butter whipped cream and one small scoop of ice cream. It was nothing as was described. Our waiter never once acknowledged all the trouble we went through. I would never return even for a quick drink and appetizer.
