The 8 Most Unique Hotels Around the World - AFAR

"Housed within the heavy stone walls of a former 19th-century prison, this upscale wellness retreat reimagines former cell blocks as 19 suites focused on sensory and mind-opening experiences. Dining highlights include farm-to-table fare with adventurous items like crocodile tempura paired with Yarra Valley pinot, while curated itineraries offer neighborhood tasting tours, charcoal drawing, mindful-movement classes, helicopter flights, semi-guided bathing rituals in an underground pool, and sunset campfires in a Reflection Garden where artisans and storytellers share local lore." - Nora Zelevansky

I loved staying in The Interlude room. The room was a great experience and luxurious. The service of the hotel was fantastic. The checkout times great. The only thing I would suggest { this is nit picking the smallest to make it even more great } to have breakfast room service.. I didn't want to leave the room for a proper coffee. Also more air flow in the rooms. It was stuffy and found it hard to breathe. I would definitely return.

Stayed here for my birthday and was impressed with the conversion of cells to rooms. I think the concept is brilliant as Pentridge prison is a massive part of Melbournes history and it's been really cool to see that. Really cool hotel. Pool area is great too. Dim lighting is a nice effect. Rooms: 4/5 | Service: 4/5

I bought this trip as a birthday present for my Wife. She is a real prisons fan having worked as a prison guard for 20 years. Staying within Pentridge prison walls was a real treat. The way it’s been remodeled is just amazing. Converting prison cells into a luxury 5 star room. The staff were welcoming and helpful. The restaurant was lovely. We had the best few days and crammed lots in over our short stay.

I had booked the Adina hotel (a newly built tower) for a short visit. A few days before I received a phone call from the hotel, offering an upgrade to one of the hotel suites in the old Pentridge Gaol, which is part of the Adina complex. This was complimentary - these suites come at a premium price compared to the Adina hotel. I really enjoyed the stay, but it is not for everyone: 4 prison cells were made into one luxury suite. It was special. Over the years, people were executed at this place, the last one in 1967. No ghosts were encountered during our stay. :-( Thankfully none of our group was claustrophobic, because despite the luxury you are still in a set of 4 prison cells with a small window in each (maybe 40x80 cm) through which you can see a sliver of sky, nothing else. All in all a great experience, but if you had planned to spend a considerable amount of time in the room, this may not be for you.

Booked A Night For Our 4 Years Anniversary. We Both Couldn’t Fault The Interlude, Even With A Huge Wedding Taking Place Nothing Was To Much Trouble. Sean At Reception Was Amazing. There Was Everything We Needed. We Loved The Rooms So Cute. I Visited The Pool A Couple Of Times So Relaxing And Breakfest At The Restaurant Was Fabulous.

My husband and I just stayed in this amazing hotel! The room was 4 old prison cells combined into a beautiful and slightly quirky room. |This is no ordinary accommodation, and I’ve stayed in many! We went to the Olivine wine bar and dined in a pre-booked booth. The atmosphere was lovely, and if you were to go here I’d recommend the booths. However, the prices for drinks and bar food was very expensive. We had one drink here and then headed to the Brewery on site. This was still a bit pricey, but a lot better. One of the highlights of our stay was the underground pool. We had it to ourselves (by luck) and the ambiance was beautiful. |I strongly recommend staying at The Interlude

Our host, Maddi, greeted us with a glass of bubbles. She was super friendly and gave us a wonderful tour so we knew our way around. Nothing was too much trouble. She was so welcoming, kind and professional. We have never had such a warm welcome at a hotel. Top quality experience. Highly recommend.

There was nothing relaxing nor rejuvenation about my stay.. The website said relaxation, wellness, candles and beautiful relaxing music. The reality..a wine slinging family with 2 splashing, loud, singing children and to add to the relaxing experience the non-pool diaper baby started crying! Other guests left and I requested some help from reception ...nothing. What came through that door was yet another family with 2 more screaming kids in tow. I gave up after being splashed some more. This was supposed to be the 1 subterranean relaxation pool offering a place of quiet and retreat not another bloody kids family fun park. Waste of money for this 'experience' If you want to make this right up keep the quiet space and stop allowing children in. Might has well removed the glass above and put in a bloody waterslide...funfields pentridge edition 🤦‍♀️
