I had booked the Adina hotel (a newly built tower) for a short visit.
A few days before I received a phone call from the hotel, offering an upgrade to one of the hotel suites in the old Pentridge Gaol, which is part of the Adina complex. This was complimentary - these suites come at a premium price compared to the Adina hotel.
I really enjoyed the stay, but it is not for everyone: 4 prison cells were made into one luxury suite. It was special.
Over the years, people were executed at this place, the last one in 1967. No ghosts were encountered during our stay. :-(
Thankfully none of our group was claustrophobic, because despite the luxury you are still in a set of 4 prison cells with a small window in each (maybe 40x80 cm) through which you can see a sliver of sky, nothing else.
All in all a great experience, but if you had planned to spend a considerable amount of time in the room, this may not be for you.
