The Ivy by Frangipani

⭐ 5/5 – A Hidden Gem in Galle fort! Highly Recommended! We were absolutely blown away by The Ivy by Frangipani in Galle Fort! After being scammed by another hotel (Moi Galle Fort by DBI – avoid at all costs!), we were heartbroken and urgently needed a decent place to stay during our trip. That’s when we stumbled upon this hidden gem – and honestly, it turned our entire experience around. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by the owner and the friendly staff, who went out of their way to help us feel comfortable and safe. They offered us a spacious family room for a very affordable price – much cheaper than the previous place – and the quality was far superior. The room was incredibly clean, with: • A double bed and two single beds, all with duvets and clean sheets • Four towels – perfect for the four of us girls • Two ceiling fans, air conditioning, and even a refrigerator • A mirror, two racks for our clothes, and ample storage space • A clean, spacious bathroom with hot water • A huge balcony and sitting area where we could relax and enjoy the view We were genuinely surprised at how much value this place offered for the price. It felt like a luxury stay on a budget, and it completely saved our trip. Whether you’re on a girls’ trip, family vacation, or even a couple’s getaway, we can’t recommend The Ivy by Frangipani enough. Clean, cozy, affordable, and run by genuinely kind people — this place is a 100/100 in our books. Thank you to the team at The Ivy for turning our nightmare into a dream stay! 💛

I ate at the restaurant with my family. It was not worth the lkr 5280 they charged for two items. 3/4 of the menu was not available due to it being off season, yet they had visibly 4 staff on duty. We were the only customers (should have been a red flag) yet it took quite some time for the food to arrive. I know that Galle is quite high in price, especially the fort, but quality should still be reflected in the prices set. All reviews below are still viable.

A terrible experience from start to finish. Prices were high, and the quality of the cocktails was very poor. There were five of us, and the food was served gradually over more than half an hour between the first and last person. For one meal, I had to go to the kitchen window myself after the chef rang repeatedly for the waiter, who did not respond. The food was cold. My fish and chips were honestly disgusting. The prices were high, and the portions were small. At the end, the waiter brought the bill including a 10% service charge. I told him that this was the worst meal I had in all three weeks in Sri Lanka and that I would not pay for bad service. He replied that the service fee was in the system and could not be removed. I paid – and never, never, never again. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. It’s a tourist trap… disgusting.

Called in for a drink and food because of the live music . Staff were fantastic with our son who needed to charge his phone. Lovely place ,very nice feel to it. Loved the food ,drinks and atmosphere. ( didn't stay in hotel)

Rooms OK, basic but do have aircon and mozzie nets. Staff helpful. Breakfast was pretty good (2 fried eggs and plenty of good jam, butter and toast). Great location and very good value given the location.

I was for Dinner there. Netter than the reviews. I eat the seafood madley. Big Portion. Good prawns. Calamaria should be more fried. Tuna two slices wirh good souse but also Low fried.Too less fries. Very good Salat. Service could be better! They clear away my Drink when I was at the toilet😏 bit I get an new without any discussion.

Came as part of a group. Check in was easy. Motel didn't have air con in main lobby, but is family run. Room was small but good bed with bug net, air con although it took time to work, a dressing table, decent bathroom though only soap. No tv. Had a balcony overlooking the street. Ok breakfast. Might have benefitted with moving bed 90 degrees and moving furniture around to create more space.

Portuguese style old bungalow hotel. Rooms were clean. Location is superb. Around this area, you can walk by to good bars and restaurants.
