"Winters get serious in Saskatoon, the leafy city of about 300,000 people in the midwestern province of Saskatchewan. The city is shedding its moose-and-maple-syrup image with such recent additions as downtown’s James Hotel, the city’s first true boutique property. The 59 guest rooms are decorated with warm woods and icy grays, and the penthouse suite’s sprawling brick balcony overlooks the Saskatchewan River. In January, the Winterruption Saskatoon festival features live music, Indigenous storytelling, and activities for kids like mini golf and sleigh rides across the city. We stayed here for our 1 year wedding anniversary. The staff are very friendly and courteous and the lobby is vibrant and clean. The room was nice, but we didn't find it anything special. We were on floor 5 so we had a nice view of the park, but couldn't really see the river. The bed and pillows are comfy. We were disappointed to learn that the steakhouse, Carvers, is not open on Sundays so we had to go elsewhere for dinner. Overall, it was a nice experience.

Aaron and Josh provided outstanding service during our visit at the lounge at The James Hotel! Aaron, the bartender, crafted exceptional drinks with great attention to detail, making every cocktail perfect. Josh, our server, was equally impressive—attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout our meal. Their professionalism and positive attitudes truly enhanced our experience. Highly recommend both of them for top-quality service.

Seems like a 5-star hotel labeled as 3-star. Clean spacious suite with a river view balcony and a very comfortable bed. Front desk staff are very kind and welcoming!! Breakfast is on another level here. Conveniently located to do evening walks. I enjoyed my stay here. Thank you everyone for running such a nice hotel.

Stayed in a standard room with the river view. Beautiful view. It's a very comfortable stay. Towels, linen, surfaces in the room are very clean. There're many outlets around the room to charge my electronics. Fairly good water pressure in the shower, large tub. The continental breakfast was of good quality and generous. I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else in Saskatoon.

My wife and I stayed at the James for 3 days in one of the suites overlooking the river, and we were very happy with the room; it was spacious, tastefully renovated, and had very comfortable beds. The main living area was outfitted with a good looking, but slightly uncomfortable L shaped couch, and had a newer TV with updated video streaming capabilities. This was necessary, in that there was no cable tv, or at least none that I was able9 to find (I didn't look too hard because let's face it: everyone streams these days). The balcony outside was very big, and was complimented by a stunning view of the South Saskatchewan River, historic churches, a beautiful walking path, and a variety of loud, sometimes unruly, and mostly clothed homeless people who, on occasion, used the sidewalk as a restroom. There is also a mini bar, which we didn't use, but if you plan on drinking or eating anything they provide, keep in mind that you will be paying $9 for a $0.75 handful of chocolates M&M's, and up to $65 for a $20 bottle of alcohol. The bedroom was average sized, and housed a very comfortable king bed with clean linens and very comfortable pillows. The TV was also modern, and was capable of streaming as well. The room was also VERY quiet. I don't know if they were soundproofed, but they did not transfer sound from outside, the hallways, or the suite above, which was a very welcome gift for us. The bathroom was nicely updated, and the shower had, in my opinion, perfect water pressure. The sink was nice, and toilet was soft closing and did everything a toilet should do. The staff were extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive, opening doors as we approached the building, and providing us with great food and attraction recommendations. The cleaning staff were also very friendly, and provided us with some items we asked for as soon as they were able. There is no underground parking, but a private parking lot. It is highly recommended that due to the very high homeless traffic, you take EVERYTHING out of your vehicle when you are in the room, and keep your doors locked. Not a problem for us, but we were told it has been a problem a few times. The only gripe we had was the room service: we ordered a burger and poke bowl, which, with gratuity, cost $60. The burger was cold and so dry it was almost inedible (and I can stomach pretty much anything), the yam fries were also cold, and the poke bowl was.... good? It looked nice, but bland. I know, it's room service; you can't expect dine-in quality, but for the equivalent of $30 per meal, we would have been better off ordering from Skip or Doordash, and had money left over. If the food was even better than decent, the total rating would have been 5 stars, but it was bad enough that it took a full star away from the rating. All things considered, if I ever find myself in Saskatoon again for business, I would definitely stay at the James again.

Rude French woman at reception makes it a very unpleasant experience to come into the hotel although parking was available you must move your car is it’s just for guest even if you are attending the restaurant and bar area. Don’t waste your time with this restaurant/bar area.

Google
Wonderful hotel, it seems to be renovated from an old apartment building. Be sure to try the bar. They have an assortment of food and wonderful drinks. The breakfast was a little strange at first because there's a buffet of options in the same spot where the chef is cooking the option of the day. But once you get back that breakfast was tasty.

Google
Wonderful hotel to stay at if you're in the Saskatoon area! Rooms have always been incredibly clean whenever I've stayed here, and the rooms have a very comfy feel to them. Always have had great service from anyone I've talked to (front desk, bar, etc.). Really cozy lounge area if you're looking to relax and have a drink. Perfect location if you want to stay right downtown. Within short walking distance to the mall, lots of restaurants and stores, and a beautiful park! Highly recommend this spot to anyone!!

Yelp
Came again for another stay and obviously choose the James. We got the suite and it was HUGE! The room came with a small kitchen which included a nespresso coffee machine, a mini fridge, an ice maker, and enough wine glasses (hint hint). You move into the living room with enough sitting for a family, a patio, and an excellent size TV. The main bedroom has a walk in bathroom (with a tub for 2), king bed, and TV! The views of the bridge and river are stunning! The 2nd bedroom had a TV, queen, and 2 closets. Another bathroom to the side filled with L'Occitane products. The service is exceptional. People were incredibly friendly and opened our doors at even chance. We used the gym (not the greatest but will do in a pinch), the bar (service was excellent), and their free breakfast (a chef is there to create your dish).

Yelp
I spent the last three nights in Saskatoon and stayed downtown at the James Hotel. I'd stayed there before and liked it. It used to be a condo building and was converted to a hotel. They gave me a one bedroom suite ... sweet! The tub was perfect! The bed was comfy! All the suites have a balcony and I had a river view. The room had complementary bottled water, WIFI (it was speedy) and parking. There was a Keurig in-room brewer with coffee, hot chocolate and tea, and an in-room safe in the closet. There is a mini-fridge stocked with pop and alcohol and treats (cookies, nuts, etc.) ... you pay for what you use. There is a bar in the lobby and you can order food. There are lots of restaurants within walking distance. There was also a complimentary full hot breakfast ($18 if you are a non-guest) with waffles, eggs, sausages, potatoes, ham, muffins, croissants, etc. There was also a chef who will make you an omelette. I stopped in there on Wednesday and had ready-made scrambled eggs, turkey ham and fresh fruit.

Yelp
Simply fabulous hotel! I stayed here this week for a work trip. I was expecting a normal hotel room, but instead I got put in a one-bedroom king suite (city view), complete with turndown service. Luxury! I had a living room with a balcony facing the parking lot / city, a bedroom with a king bed and drawers, and a marble bathroom. I think I read online that it was about 450 square feet. My first night there, someone knocked on the door offering turndown service, and I received a blanket (in case I wanted to venture out onto the balcony later and it was cold!) and a full-size chocolate bar. Colleagues said that the second night, they received a puff pastry of sort, although for some reason my bed was turned down but I didn't receive anything that night (womp womp ... #firstworldproblems, for sure). Saskatoon doesn't have Uber or Lyft, and the front desk was able to schedule me a cab for this morning, too, as well as provide recommendations the night before for a nearby convenience store at which I could purchase Canadian snacks. The hotel also serves complimentary breakfast for guests every morning. This week their breakfast room (2nd floor) is under renovation, so I had breakfast in the PENTHOUSE SUITE this morning ... gorgeous. Breakfast included eggs and pancakes made-to-order, as well as egg dishes, bacon, fruit, and assorted bakery items. This is probably the nicest hotel I've stayed at in quite a while, and it would be an understatement to say I am definitely a fan of The James. Bravo.

Yelp
When it comes to The James Hotel, we may very well be their biggest fans! We love them so much that we stay here even though we live just across the river within easy walking distance from the hotel. We like to think of our stays there as taking the concept of a luxurious, spoil-yourself stay-cation to the next level. The first thing people say to us when we talk about The James is: "It's expensive, isn't it?" Our response is that people should check it out and be prepared for a pleasant surprise. We routinely book a premium, one bedroom suite with a balcony and sublime river view for under CDN $300/night (all in). A boutique hotel of this quality could easily cost two to three times as much in Canadian cities like Toronto or Vancouver, and at least four times as much in more "exotic" locales like New York or London. To have a property that offers this level of well-appointed elegance topped off with first-class service in our small (but mighty) prairie city is a blessing. THE ROOMS We always book a one bedroom suite, so there's a lovely spacious living room and a balcony with a beautiful river view. It's well worth enjoying a bottle of chilled champagne on a warm night. The bathtubs are big enough to allow a long luxurious soak, and the bed is so comfortable we sleep like babies. There's loads of closet space in both the living room area and the bedroom with lots of full-length mirrors. Now, to the confessional: we are irredeemable, unapologetic hedonists, so it should surprise no one that the twin lodestones of our love of their rooms are the bedsheets and bathrobes. Yes, we know - you've slept on lots of lovely, Egyptian cotton, or even silk, sheets - so have we. And yes, there are lots of lovely hotel bathrobes out there - but not like the ones at the James. Just trust us on this one; once you experience the soft, buttery textures and accompanying skin nirvana, you'll understand and will, like us, dream about these sheets and bathrobes long after you leave. Also, they have a delicious approach to their turndown service. You might have guessed by our username that we are just a wee bit obsessed with food. We found two very tasty, freshly baked, bite-sized brownies with toasted almonds waiting on our bedside table. Such a civilized way to usher in an evening! And what makes this the best turndown service EVER is that those amazing sheets are there for the touching as you savour the brownie. Did we mention the sheets? J THE HOTEL & SERVICE The pleasure of a stay at The James extends beyond the rooms. Prior to your stay you are sent an email asking about specific preferences and special requests - and they always pay attention and deliver on all counts. Upon arrival you are greeted at the door and with offers to help with luggage and the like, It's clear from that point, through to check-in and beyond, that employees are encouraged to maintain an air of casual refinement and sincere warmth. There is an elegant lounge and bar downstairs serving a nice selection of snacks. This is a perfect place to visit before or after (or both) a performance at the symphony or theatre, or to just have an adult conversation with friends (read: the atmosphere is refined, and quiet, allowing for conversation without having to yell across the table). THE BAR AND FOOD They serve great cocktails, conveniently organized by taste profile. The bar menu includes some tasty sharable small plates, for example: Blackened Tuna Cones - while the term "blackened" is applied very loosely, this dish is still delicious. Yellowfin tuna is wrapped up with avocado, quinoa, crispy tempura flakes, tarragon cream, and pea shoots to provide a delightful, light snack. Hummus Three Ways: Red pepper, Pesto and Baba Ganoush served with pita and veggies. The red pepper was a well-executed classic, and the pesto was the most interesting of the three. The Baba Ganoush came across as a bit bland, but the tasty pita bread made up for it. Warm Cheese Marinated Olives and Cheese Stuffed Jalapeno - while the olives were tasty, they weren't at all warm. The cream cheese jalapeno was tasty, providing just a little bit of a spicy kick. Stuffed Dates: Filled with maple mascarpone these fresh dates were accented with pistachios and prosciutto; they were absolutely marvelous! If you want a proper meal, you can always ask for one of the in-room dining menus. We shared an order of Crispy Buttermilk Chicken Sandwich and fries. It was a very generous serving of chicken served on a potato bun, and the fries were on point. One serving was all we needed to round out our afternoon of snacking before taking in a show. BREAKFASTS Breakfasts are included with the room. Two out of three stays the breakfasts were wonderful, and once they seemed to be struggling a little. We'd guess there were some bumps related to new staff. The breakfast area is a comfortable room that features a combination of table service and small, but very fresh, buff

Yelp
Two nights of pure bliss. What a fabulous hotel. Nice bright airy modern rooms. Service was beyond impeccable and the chef attended complimentary breakfast was worth the stay alone. The entire hotel was wonderful. The room was quiet and had a great view of the river and skating rink below. Fully stocked coffee bar with mini fridge - pay for what you use, but the convenience was appreciated. Room service was incredible with the friendly staff bringing a few extras we hadn't considered. Thank you for making our stay so comfortable and easy. Wouldn't stay anywhere else now. By the way details to everything from the bar to the beds were exceptional. That was no hotel room we stayed in but a luxurious guest room away from home. Thank you James Hotel.

Yelp
Stayed at the James for an entire week and loved every minute of it. The location is excellent and within walking distance of shopping and the river. First off the staff is simply amazing. They always took great care of our every need and made us feel special. Maria in the breakfast room was so delightful and we looked forward to seeing her each morning. The breakfast is so great and free with the room. Cooked to order omelets, eggs Benedict some days also. I wanted a fried egg and they gladly made me one also. There is a variety of fruits, breads, meats, cheeses ect.The coffee was great also and having a cup while looking out the window was a great way to start each day. The room was very comfortable and so clean and inviting. We had a river view suite. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom large and clean. Great water pressure and plenty of hot water. Our suite had 2 rooms. The bed room and a living room type area. There is a very comfortable couch and a coffee table that was great to relax on and watch the flat screen tv. If the weather is nice you can sit on the balcony with a great view. The cleaning staff always did a great job and made sure we had fresh coffee pods as well as bottled water each day. I could go on but lets just leave it at this. Stay here because I know you will love it.

Yelp
We stayed at the James for a very special night and the staff couldn't have been more attentive and accommodating - all of the items I requested were sitting in the room waiting for us when we arrived. The room was terrific with a beautiful view of the Sask river. This is a great little gem in downtown Saskatoon - I highly recommend!

Yelp
Everything from the hotels modern decor, to the comfiest bed I have ever slept in, to fresh made pancakes for breakfast, this hotel is stunning! Right in the heart of downtown close to everything! I highly recommend this hotel for anyone coming to Saskatoon!

Greg H.

Yelp
We stopped by for a drink after supper and I'm glad we did. The floor plan has a few small lounge areas which allows a couple or group to have a small space to themselves. The service was attentive, but not intrusive. They take the time to make and serve drinks well. I had an Old Fashioned while my wife tried a "Birth of Cool". It is a very refreshing drink based on Grey Goose Poire and St Germain. I'll have to remember that as a summer deck drink. This will be one of our regular stops when we are in Saskatoon.

Yelp
View.Value.Comfort. Had to duck into Saskatoon for two nights and decided to check out the newer James Hotel for a place to set down my head at night. This hotel is brought to us by the same owners of the Sheraton Cavalier which is co-located on the same property. The conversion was great from a room perspective. Being a Saskatoon raised person the riverbank area has been and always will be the draw. This hotel does not disappoint with location, comfort and view. The value is great as wifi and a chef attended breakfast station is included along with parking on site that is well lit and right outside the front door. You will not find better value with comfort, food and parking included in Saskatoon.

Kellie G.

Yelp
I looooove this hotel. Lovely ambiance in the classy bar. Modern suite with The best sheets (organic cotton) I've ever slept on. Nice breakfast bar included. Vunderbar!

Yelp
Could not have been more surprised or pleased with the experience at the James Hotel. Every single employee was exceptionally friendly, the customer service was outstanding, truly went above and beyond. The quality of the decor, pillows, sheets, coffee table, even the hair dryer that is included, is outstanding. I can't even begin to describe the continental breakfast, hands down better than most breakfasts I've paid for. I was lucky enough to have a park / river view from my balcony (the room had a balcony!) and it was so nice to sit out there for a few moments, watch the sub set and just take in the beautiful scene. If I were to be a stickler and give it a strike, it would be no hot tub, however I was so blown away with everything else that I did not mind. I cannot say enough good things about this place and cannot stop telling my friends about it.
