The Jarvis is a beautiful house. It was like being in my own home( maybe nicer!). The decor is beautiful. It is a restored old home and not one detail was missed. The beds and linens were luxurious. I am picky, I need a nice firm bed with fluffy linens. This was just that. The bathroom was restored to modern efficiency with a full walk in shower but still eclectic. Coffee was ready early, and we enjoyed it on the front porch. Breakfast was not a buffet, but eggs benedict served hot. The town is completely walkable from the house. Great place for a cozy getaway. We will definitely go back.

The Jarvis was the most amazing venue for my sister’s wedding weekend! Bret, Brandi, and Ian went above and beyond to make sure the newlyweds had a beautiful wedding and place to stay for the weekend. The cottage as well as all of the guest rooms were beautiful and fully stocked with anything we could’ve needed. There were so many small but noticeable details that makes this bed and breakfast the best place to stay in New Bern. The location was also AMAZING and within walking distance of the waterfront and all food/shopping in the downtown area. My husband and I will 100% be returning to stay and would recommend the Jarvis over and over again to anyone looking to visit New Bern!

Just returned from 2 night stay in the cottage to celebrate our 44th wedding anniversary. Truly one of the best stays we’ve ever had anywhere, and we travel quite frequently in the US and abroad. The entire property exudes elegance, yet still feels relaxing and cozy. Location is perfect for walking to shops, restaurants and the waterfront. Delicious breakfast prepared by Ian, one of the owners. He is a hospitality superstar and made our stay a wonderful one. We highly recommend the Jarvis@220 to absolutely everyone.

Our Valentine’s stay at The Jarvis was amazing! We know the owners and Bret & Brandi’s heart for people and community shines in every detail of this stunning, cozy, and elegant place. My husband surprised me with this getaway, and from the special touches like chocolate-covered strawberries to the beautiful architecture, it was perfect. Ian is an incredible host. He's truly kind, patient, and a fantastic chef! The entire experience was warm, welcoming, and restful. We’ll definitely be back!

This was our first visit to New Bern and we were so pleased that we selected the Jarvis at 220 for our one-night stay. It is memorable because the innkeeper, Ian, is a welcoming gracious host and made us a delightful breakfast in the morning. The rooms are all immaculate and beautifully appointed with gorgeous antiques. We stayed in the Jarvis Room and the extra-comfy king bed had beautiful linens. The bathroom was huge with separate sinks and filled with nearly all the toiletries you could ask for. It was a pleasure to meet and get to know Ian and we hope to stay there again on a future trip!

I could not recommend a better place to stay in the beautiful town of New Bern, NC! The Jarvis at 220 is truly a special place with a stunning interior and lovely, accommodating staff. I can confidently say that my newly wedded wife and I enjoyed every moment of our stay and wedding ceremony at The Jarvis at 220! Look forward to having our next getaway here!

We had our wedding at the Jarvis and it was everything we could imagine! The venue was the perfect size for our 100ish person wedding, and on top of that, having everyone stay in the same house all weekend made it feel so much more intimate. Brandi was so much fun to work with and made the process of getting everything together so smooth. Ian was also the best innkeeper and made our stay that much better. Highly recommend staying for a weekend or hosting a special event!

At first entrance, my husband and I were immediately impressed by the elegance and beauty of the rooms and the warm welcome by Inn Keeper, Ian. We were no less impressed with our room (The Bruin). Our room was elegant and King Bed extremely comfortable with ample pillows and separate temperate control. Bathrobe and slippers in the closet for added comfort. Our bathroom (though a single sink) was ample for two but the HUGE and beautiful walk-in shower was an added bonus. Stay for the Breakfast! Extremely delicious and cooked by Chef Ian, who goes out of his way to accommodate your every wish. We will return!

Yelp
As comfortable as it is beautifully preserved. The rooms are spacious and inviting, with several well shaded porches and gardens. My wife and I stayed for Mother's Day this year! The Jarvis is centrally located to downtown restaurants, stores, and Tryon Palace, the original NC Capital. The basement is children friendly, with cold water and juice available to help keep everyone hydrated. We felt both comfortable and welcome.

Yelp
So glad we had the chance to stay in this beautiful historic home while visiting New Bern. Ian was very welcoming & helpful with suggestions on the area. Our room was clean, bed very comfortable and breakfast was tasty. It was nice to be within walking distance of shops, restaurants and historic sights. Would be very happy to return! Enjoy!

Yelp
Bed and breakfast at The Jarvis is back! It was clean, well kept and amazing service. Ian the innkeeper was super friendly and attentive. Walking distance from all the nice spots in downtown New Bern. We stayed in the Jarvis suite with balcony access. It was a great overall experience and definitely recommend!

Yelp
Denise and Michael were amazing hosts to our sales team. Best breakfast I've ever had on a business trip by far. Location is great- walking distance to everything. Place is beautifully decorated. Really enjoyed chatting with them and appreciated the hospitality very much. Would 100% stay here again!

Yelp
WOW!! Simply astonished by how gorgeous this Bed and Breakfast was. Definitely tops most other hotel experiences. The owners, Denise and Michael, brought so much fun, personality and amazing conversation into the dynamic. They are a fun, educated and very personable couple that run an amazing bed&breakfast in the heart of charming New Bern. Highly recommend!!!

Yelp
This place is AMAZING..from the decor to the food and the owners are two of the loveliest individuals I've ever met. We will be coming back to this place again for another stay!!! Simply wonderful!

Yelp
Spoiler alert! I read Mike and Denise's story on their website before we arrived, so I knew that they were "newbies" to the B&B world. I was so excited to see what life after a career in education (for Mike) was like. Amazingly, as soon as we walked in, I had to keep reminding myself that they haven't been doing this forever. Just one year into being New Bern residents, they have made friends all over town and brought the best of the town right into their inn. Less than 6 months of operating the B&B seems like it's measured in dog years. Mike and Denise have a perfect flow of hosting and maintaining this gorgeous home. We will be back, and we will be sending others!

Yelp
What a wonderful experience! Greeted with a warm, friendly reception by Denise and Michael our amazing host and owners. We stayed in the Simpson Room and it was beautiful. The King bed was sooo comfortable, wonderful decor, soft sheets, your own thermostat, provided all toiletries, sweet little box of chocolates from local Bear City Fudge. Sat and had a glass of wine with owners, went out to dinner, came back and played pool and darts in basement. Upon waking the home was sweetly scented by the smell of breakfast, just like moms. I walked downstairs in robe provided, got my coffee to sip on in bed while breakfast was being prepared. Showered in the endless hot water. Breakfast was beautiful and excellent. Such fun and great people too. The Beautiful home is lucky to be revived with modern conveniences but historic beauty. We will be back! Sad we were only able to stay 1 night.

Yelp
We spent a wonderful week here for our 25th Wedding Anniversary and is was tremendous. Denise and Michael were excellent hosts and made every detail of our stay fantastic. The room was first rate and the breakfasts were amazing. We highly recommend this B&B!

Yelp
My husband and I were in town for a wedding and we just found our forever home away from home. Denise and Michael were so amazing! Beyond comfortable and the food was out of this world! Missing it already and we just left!

Yelp
Spent a lovely three day weekend at the Jarvis and already looking forward to coming back. Was in town for a wedding and can say after seeing all of the other B&Bs that the Jarivs was our family's favorite. We loved our hosts (Michael and Denise) who made us feel right at home and made sure we saw the best of New Bern. Really appreciated that they accommodated food allergies for breakfast. The Jarvis is a beautiful updated historic home with a fantastic location. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and very clean. The bathrooms are awesome. They have managed to marry the tradition and historic aspects of the house with incredible style and the comforts of modern amenities. Loved that there were multiple options for hanging out from three formal living room options, the dinning room, multiple gracious porches, and a game-room/pub in the basement. You can walk to shopping and restaurants in the center of town. Parking is easy. Beautiful town with stunning water views.

Yelp
What an awesome time we had at The Jarvis at 220. From the front bedroom suite to the Cellar Door basement retreat, everything was perfect! Breakfast was fantastic as well. Michael and Denise were the epitome of what hosts should be. They attended to whatever we needed, took time out to sit and talk with us, and tell us the history of New Bern and the home itself. We can't say enough about them in this review. Only sad part for us was not being able to stay there on the way back from our wedding in Charleston. We will be back in the future though! Thanks again Michael and Denise! Look forward to seeing you soon. Brian and Jen

Yelp
My husband & I spent a night at this charming, immaculate B&B. The owners are so personable you feel like a guest in their home. They welcomed us with a bottle of champagne, they made dinner reservations for us. We capped off the night in their "game room cellar" watching the Hurricanes. The bed was very comfortable, our room had a big beautiful shower. We woke up to fresh coffee, fresh fruit & delicious eggs Benedict. The only downside is that we had to leave after only one night. We will definitely go back and highly recommend this B&B.

Yelp
Where do I even start to explain to everyone how wonderful The Jarvis at 220 is? Due to Covid our big wedding plans had to be postponed. Not only could we not get married as planned but we also could not get married in my hometown with our vendors because my husband is in the military and could not travel. We still knew we wanted to go ahead and get married. SO cut to four days before our wedding we are scrambling to find a location to do a simple intimate ceremony outside. I had just moved and my mom and I had no idea where to start to pull together something simple but special. And then someone recommended I call Denise at The Jarvis. MIRACLE WORKER! Denise and Michael were gracious and incredible hosts. Denise immediately said she could handle everything. She arranged our flowers, cake, food for our small group, champagne and threw in one of the beautiful rooms at the inn for our wedding night and breakfast the morning after. She took care of EVERYTHING with FOUR days notice on a holiday weekend! (Memorial Weekend) Michael and Denise were such a blessing to us, taking all of our worries and stress away and helped us to just relax and enjoy our wedding day with the small group of family and friends that could attend. Now I will have two wedding days to celebrate both equally as special. I can't thank them enough for their hospitality and help. I also can't rave enough about the beauty of the house and how comfortable they make you feel. It is immediately like you could stay forever and be family. The rooms are beautiful, the food is delicious and the hosts are gracious. What more could you ask for? If you are visiting New Bern and need a place to stay OR you are planning a nice wedding or event be sure to check out The Jarvis at 220. You won't be disappointed. (THANKS AGAIN DENISE AND MICHAEL!)

Yelp
We booked our stay after family members recommended the Jarvis, and we're so glad we did! The owners, Michael and Denise are incredibly welcoming. Our suite was incredible! We loved the view of the river from our private balcony and the updated bathroom looks like it belongs in a magazine. Denise makes a delicious breakfast each morning and makes great recommendations of where to eat and what to see in town. Everything you need is within walking distance from the Jarvis but they also have bikes available to ride around town! Michael and Denise made sure we had everything we needed for comfort during our stay and the next time we're in New Bern we will stay at the Jarvis. Incredible hospitality!

Yelp
I recently stayed at The Jarvis at 220. The owners, Michael and Denise Gleason were terrific hosts. Their B&B was marvelous and their attention to details were quite remarkable. New Bern is a lovely historical town and The Jarvis is the place to stay. You won't be disappointed. Karen Kelly

Yelp
If you like everything perfect without being stuffy, The Jarvis at 220 is where you'll want to stay in New Bern. The carefully renovated 1914 historic home distills inside four walls that unique blend of traditional and trendy that is New Bern's "secret sauce." Your hosts, Denise and Michael, keep every imaginable detail under control seemingly effortlessly, while making their guests feel like old friends returning home (assuming "home" has three adjacent full-size living rooms, as does the Jarvis). So when breakfast rolls around in the spacious and beautifully appointed dining room, you're mentally prepared to give a perfunctory breakfast a free pass. That's when you discover that Denise's genius for perfection extends into the kitchen as well. A+++ There is no dedicated parking lot, but we had no trouble parking within a few steps of the front porch, which--like everything else at the Jarvis--is gorgeous.

Yelp
Just had an per-wedding groomsmen hangout in the man cave, the space and location was perfect for this. Would rent again.

Yelp
We stayed at The Jarvis at 220 for our most recent anniversary weekend in New Bern and it was a wonderful experience. Michael and Denise are exceptional hosts and kept all the guests both comfortable and entertained. The house is beautiful and the location is perfect, offering immediate walking access to the riverfront and downtown. The rooms are comfortable and inviting, and Denise puts together a wonderful breakfast. The Gleasons are just great people, they have created a genuinely welcoming home-away-from-home, and we will most definitely be returning as often as possible. Thanks to both of them for a great anniversary trip.

Yelp
The Jarvis is a beautifully restored home turned into a B&B, very comfortable with great hosts, fabulous food and convenient location. We had a great weekend there and hope to return.
