Our group of four decided to spend the first leg of our Charleston/Savannah Christmas by spending three nights in Charleston at The Jasmine House Inn.
My husband and I booked the Canton Room while our friends booked the Chrysanthemum Room right across from us. Both rooms are located on the second floor and share a huge balcony that spans the length of the house; each room provides direct access to the balcony. Though the balcony is open for anyone to enjoy, it really felt like it was a private balcony for those staying in these two rooms. There really is no reason for anyone staying in another room to venture to the second floor to walk out to the balcony when there is a really nice and large front porch with rocking chairs and a beautiful courtyard area at the back of the house for those staying in one of the Carriage Rooms.
The location of The Jasmine House is perfect for strolling through old, historic Charleston. It's right off of Meeting Street where a lot of the shops are located, and about 3 blocks from City Market where local artisans sell a variety of items. If you're going to do a lot of strolling in this area, there is really no need to drive your car. Just leave it in the parking lot of the Indigo Inn which owns the Jasmine House Inn, and you'll be fine.
My only disappointment was that there was no living room and it really felt like were staying in more of a boarding house than a B&B. One of the things we really enjoy about B&Bs is the opportunity to relax in the living room of the home, meet other visitors, and enjoy lovely conversations with the innkeeper. That was a missing piece at the Jasmine House. Breakfasts were placed downstairs in a hallway area where you could serve yourself and either eat in your room, on your balcony, in your sitting room, or outside in the courtyard area.
Upon checking out, we took a stroll through Indigo Inn and were glad we chose the Jasmine House for our stay. There is nothing wrong with Indigo Inn, as they share a front desk and reception/staff, but it felt like more of a converted motel with a common middle/courtyard area, whereas Jasmine House is a mansion converted into an "almost" B&B style accommodation.
Would I stay here again? Maybe. I'll likely look for a more traditional B&B next time around, but if the price is right, I'd choose Jasmine House Inn simply for the location.
