The Jefferson (Washington D.C., USA) 2 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"As the capital city of the United States it’s only natural that Washington D.C. should be home to a fair number of grand, historic luxury hotels. Not all of them are quite as old-world as they seem, though. The Jefferson certainly has all the opulence and historical atmosphere you’d expect from one of the original grand dames, and the fact that it’s mostly the result of a 2009 renovation is neither here nor there." - Tablet Hotels

The Jefferson is Arlington's best kept secret. I would and have recommended the community to my senior friends and family. Our fellow residents are kind, interesting, and wonderful neighbors. The activities are plentiful generous and tons of fun. Food is delicious and nutritious. We feel like we're on a cruise every day.

My brother in law recently moved to Assisted Living and the team at the Jefferson was fabulous during the planning process and has been consistently attentive and responsive these past few months. We visit from out of state and love the location as well as the facility itself. It was the perfect choice.

The absolute worst medical rehabilitation facility that my mother has stayed in. One front desk person refused to give me the phone number to the landline in her room saying that was private personal patient information! As I was out of state at the time, I then asked if someone could call me back to confirm that my mother was alive and no one ever did. Very complicated forms for requesting items the patients want from complicated daily menus, which my mother didn't understand and once for a meal they provided her with some lettuce and a small dessert stating well that's what she had requested on the form; nobody there cares about the patients’ diets. My mother was supposed to be there to gain weight and instead they confirmed that she had lost weight since her arrival. They didn't give the form to request her medical records to her until the 30th day she had been there, the day of her discharge; Kaleb Campbell, a supervisor, tried to pressure me into signing a form that I had received the medical records nevertheless. Who knows if we will ever receive the medical records? They stated that they wanted to take a survey and gave a phone number which automatically disconnects after a number of rings! I could go on and on about the mishaps, including the fact that upon her arrival I was told that she would get a shower every Monday and Thursday and at least three of those dates that I know of she was not given a shower whatsoever. PS - a week ago I received the below response; I immediately contacted the Sunrise Team but even though they stated that wanted "to promptly review and address these concerns" I have yet to hear from anyone, nor has my mother received her medical records, and CVS has not contacted her about having had her prescriptions transferred there. One other issue I didn't mention - they put my mother alone in a vehicle with a driver and no attendant, without telling me or her in advance that they had scheduled an appointment for her at the VHC. The driver called me from there, leaving me a message saying he had been told I would meet them there to help her to the office! No attendant had been sent with her, and I got the message too late, so thankfully he did not abuse her or abandon her, just took her back. When I discussed this with both Augustina and Jackie in the front office there, Jackie informed me that the staff had not properly recorded the outing!

If you are thinking about this place for skilled nursing, AVOID it at ALL COSTS. I overheard a resident being reprimanded in the hall for not showing up for PT. OT was worse and Speech Therapy was horrible as well. They just "mark time" with patients who are elderly. NO EMPATHY. We had a loved one there ---with too few nurses to care for patients. They neglect patients who are very sick and do not provide the right medical care. Tried to get our medical records, had to threaten them with a law suit. Speaking of threatened...they threatened to to have me pay $716.00 a day while our appeal was being reviewed. CLEARLY a violation of medicare rules...and many other Virginia state laws broken....loved one was manhandled by a CNR. She took away his call button- a clear violation of the law. Reported it--nothing done. Administration is horrible as well. Try to find and Administrator on the weekend! There's much, much more. DO NOT TAKE YOUR LOVED ONE HERE. I asked to see an administrator MONTHS ago. After seeing this review, he called me. Though they have high ratings, BEWARE. This is not the place to go. If you LOVE you family member or friend, do not go there.

My experience at The Jefferson has been extraordinary: wonderful residents and staff, a lovely apartment, a multitude of activities, and when I travel to places other than on Jefferson bus trips, the Metro is one block away!

We have been condo owners in Independent Living at The Jefferson for over 2 years and are very happy here. The location is wonderful — a block from the Metro and walking distance from many good restaurants, the drugstore, grocery stores and more. The staff are warm and helpful, and there is an abundance of events and activities generated by residents as well as offered by The Jefferson. It’s a great choice for an active life in a supportive environment.

If you enjoy the convenience of urban living The Jefferson is the place for you. After reviewing and visiting many independent living communities, The Jefferson was a clear winner for me. Everything one needs is withing walking distance unlike some of the other communities in the suburbs. What you will also find here is a very interesting, vibrant and caring group of residents that embraces newcomers. You'll feel at home in no time.

Great location, caring and professional staff, dining in-house, and activities that can match your interests. Services include travel to major sites and events in the NVA and DC Areas as well as to medical appointments,, nearby churches, shopping centers and much more. Be as active (indoor pool and exercise room) or as laid-back as you’d like (bridge clubs, lectures) - buy or rent any of the Independent Living condos at The Jefferson and you won't be disappointed in your senior living choice.

Yelp
Just do not do it unless you want incompetent care, few nurses and an Administration who is NEVER responsive. My loved one was bedridden and they took away his call button, clearly in violation of state law. Try, just TRY to get your medical records...won't provide them and snarky charge nurses on weekends. Along with absolutely NO discharge instructions for. a critically ill person. SEVERE threats for nonpayment while our case was on appeal.... violation of medicare. PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS TO YOUR LOVED ONE.

Yelp
A friend of mine taken here for rehab after surgery. A horrible dirty place where patients are ignored. Since we tried to have someone with her daily to make sure the correct meds were given, they used the excuse to ignore her because we were there. However, that was a poor excuse and obviously used on everyone because I witnessed that as their general practice for all! Am in the process of moving my friend to a different rehab facility so she has a chance at recovery. If we leave her here, not sure she will recover! One star is too high for this facility!

Yelp
Not a good place to take your loved one for rehab. My sister-in-law almost died there because she was not getting someone to check in on her regularly. She had to sit in a poop filled diaper for more than an hour, her oxygen level dropped to critical levels, caught by her son who called 911....thank God! No doctor EVER checked in on her. If you love your family, DON'T SEND THEM HERE!!!

Yelp
Terrible experience at the Jefferson rehabilitation center in December 2022. The facility describes itself as a "skilled nursing" facility. We discovered when we checked in that they only had a nursing aide on duty who was not even authorized to give prescribed medication. Bathroom was far from the room so they gave my mother a diaper and then yelled at her when she asked for them to change it. Food was so so ghastly that she returned it uneaten, and she's not a picky eater. Like many of these facilities they are just cashing in on Medicare payments and delivering very minimal services in return. I wouldn't leave a pet in this place let alone a loved on. Don't believe the glowing reports on this place sponsored by the industry "review" sites like "A Place for Mom" - what a sick joke. They should be called "A Warehouse for Mom"! Avoid the Jefferson at ALL costs! Their feigned "response" below is bot generated in less than a minute of posting my review. It's all a scam! Very tragic that this is what passes for elder care in this country.
