A nice way to catch a breath of fresh air and take a break from a bar hopping tour of the Honky Tonk Highway. Views of the Cumberland River, city skyline, and stadium offer great photo ops. Picky's Recommendation: walk down Broadway to the river front and head towards the bridge. Take the stairs up (or elevator) to come up most of the way to the middle. Then return the same direction walking all the way to 4th St. There you'll find Walk of Fame Park and the entrance to the CMHoF. Or turn right and head back towards Broadway and continue on your bar hop journey.

Great views from the bridge. Live music was excellent. Could use a cleaning as litter was everywhere, but otherwise excellent site to visit.

Walking back from lunch I noticed the pedestrian bridge. I had wanted to walk it and decided it was a good time to do so. Nice weather, not rainy so I walked towards it. There are elevators from the bottom to the walkway. Some performers on the bridge. The view from the bridge is pleasant and there are seats available. You can enjoy a semblance of peace from the music and chaos of Broadway. Good exercise as it rises but a little hike if you're not physically active.

For me a visit to Nashvegas is not complete without a walk over this bridge. Great views and easy to walk. Take a peek at Nissan Stadium and the paint the titan fans feel every Sunday. Plus it's free

A cool vantage point with city views, a sneak peak of the Titans stadium, and of course waterfront views too! Cant wait to go back and visit at night with the city lights going. The bridge itself seems well maintained and clean. Parking very close by however we didn't come across any parking without paying - some were $3 for 15 minutes, and others offer hourly ranging from 1, 2 and up to 5 hours, etc. You can also visit Broadway from various parking options since it's literally right there!

This is about between .5-.75 miles to walk the whole bridge both ways. Beautiful view! Great way to start the day before things open up.

This walking bridge is very cool! I love how many places there are to walk around in this area. The bridge itself is a decent walk across, the incline isn't too bad (but we did work up a bit of a sweat pushing the stroller haha). The view from the middle of the bridge is amazing. The structure itself is cool as well. You should wait for the Ferry ship to sail past is cool! Lots of photo opportunities around. There are some kind of standing/rest areas to the side with a few benches around the middle so you don't have to be worried about standing in anyone's way. There were some people on scooters and bikes who were sometimes moving very quickly so it's good to be self aware to avoid an accident. It's kind of shocking for it to feel like peaceful with the city so nearby, but it really is lovely. We would definitely go back the next time we are in the area.

This is a Fun pedestrian bridge of my buddy, and I walked across when we were in town for an event. There's lotta cheering at whooping and hollering at all kinds of good Times having across this bridge.

After dining at Johnny Cash's Bar and BBQ, my original thought was to head to my rental car and charge my phone. I had left my portable battery charger. I looked across the street and saw a bridge where folks were walking on it. In May, I visited the Stone Arch Bridge in Minneapolis. I had a delightful walking experience on it that I wanted to go on the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge to get a similar one. I headed to my car to briefly charge my phone and put away my photos with Johnny Cash. When I had more of a charge on my phone, I hit the bridge. This bridge used to be called Sparkman Street Bridge, which connected this street with Shelby Avenue. It was constructed in 1909, with the Cumberland River flowing below it. Some prefer to call this bridge the Shelby Street Bridge. Technically, it's Shelby Avenue, so you won't have me use that name! It officially changed its name to John Seigenthaler Bridge in 2014. It is named after the journalist and civil rights advocate who worked for The Tennessean. Between this bridge and Stone Arch, the former felt longer to walk. I liked walking the entire distance and returning while casually taking photos. It was a hot day and my phone has my personality. It was getting hot and wanted some shade. I put it briefly away in my purse to let it hibernate and it was fine afterwards. I like that there are places to sit down if you do need a break. No one was jogging this day. It was too hot to barely breathe, let along walk across it at a quick pace. You get lovely views of the Nashville skyline. You can take the bridge across to drop by Nissan Stadium, which is the home of the Tennessee Titans (NFL) and the Tigers (Tennessee State University). Concerts are also held here. I enjoyed seeing a ferry boat pass under the bridge. As you walk across the bridge, you get to see the Korean Veterans Memorial Bridge nearby, practically parallel to it. I learned so much about what I was looking at. I saw the Ghost Ballet for the East Bank Machineworks sculpture below and it made me first scratch my head. It's an art installation that is supposed to represent dance movements. I didn't get it, but I love the contrast between it and the peaceful river behind it. Despite it being a hot, sunny, humid day, I thoroughly enjoyed walking across this bridge. You can get lovely downtown skyline shots of Nashville. As a first-time visitor to Nashville, I learned so much about what I was looking at. The best part was walking back to my car and noticing that the Schermerhorn Symphony Center was right next to the lot where my car was. It's where the Nashville Symphony plays, foreshadowing my concert several days later. This city has so much to discover. I'm so glad that I found this bridge. I'd love to take a walk across it again. Here's hoping that it's cooler when I return. (273)

Beautiful bridge. Great views of Nashville. Don't visit without taking a walk. We saw scooters and bikes so, unlike the name suggests, it's not just for pedestrians!!!

During our walking tour of Downtown Nashville in late November, R and I walked on the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge to see what kind of city views we could get for pics. Very nice views can be seen from this bridge! We walked here from Germantown, so I'm not sure of where parking is available. We took the steps up from the street level, but visitors can avoid the steps by starting the walk where the bridge ends at the street. I love that this bridge doesn't allow cards, but walkers need to be aware that there are the occasional knuckleheads on bikes and scooters that like to speed at the ends of the bridge. There are benches on the bridge to sit on and take in the views. People can take selfies and some great pics of the scenery and nearby points of interest.

If you want a great view of downtown Nashville, walk this bridge. There's non-event street parking near the stadium and the views along the water are stunning!

Great views of downtown Nashville, the Cumberland River and the Nissan Stadium on this pedestrian bridge. Perfect place to watch the sun rise or set on a cool autumn day. The bridge, also known as the Sparkman Street Bridge or the Shelby Street Bridge, was the first bridge in the US to have concrete arched trusses. The concrete was replaced by gunite due to excessive weathering in the late 1920s. It has been renovated and still continues to undergo renovations, but has escaped demolition due to the unique truss design.

Must visit if you're in town. 3,150 ft. only truss bridge over the Cumberland River. You'll see tons of landmarks and great spots for photo opportunities.

This is a great option to get from Nissan Stadium and back to Broadway. I'm sure this bridge is packed on game day Sundays, but we came on a Friday night it wasn't too bad. Great views of downtown, the river and on a brisk nights it's great for a stroll. No cars are allowed on this bridge, so it's safe except for the occasional speedy bike rider. There is an elevator on the East side of the bridge, but I didn't see one on the West side or Broadway side of the bridge. Looking to get your older visiting family member tired? Have them walk over this a few times and call it a day. That's what I did!

Beautiful morning to join the bikers walkers and runners across the bridge to the Nissan Football Stadium.

I never thought I would be so excited to see and walk a bridge. It was the first weekend the stay-at-home mandate was lifted and Nashville began phase 1 of the reopening process. The night was calm and peaceful as many where not out and about. The bridge was lit in my favorite color blue to honor healthcare workers and the 2020 graduates. The bridge is named after Seigenthaler, a Tennessean reporter and civil rights activist who saved a man from jumping off the then Shelby Street Bridge in 1954. I had no idea of the history until a nice homeless man gave me this bit of info. before he laid down on a bench for the night. Go figure! One of Nashville's landmarks that is a must see. It has one of the best views of Nashville Skyline and Nissan Stadium for that perfect photo-op.

The John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge connects Cumberland Park and Nissan Stadium areas to downtown Nashville. It is impossible not to admire the Nashville skyline with the iconic Batman building and the river view as you are walking across. Besides the view, it is also very practical. If you are seeing a Titans game then you can leave your car and walk across the bridge to grab dinner afterwards. Sometimes parking downtown can be challenging and expensive so it can be a good idea just to park across the bridge and walk. I know someone who took her engagement photos with her fiancee on this bridge and they came out great! I've also seen private events setup on the bridge which is a cool idea on a warm evening. I sometimes forget about this bridge (especially during Winter) but it is beautiful year round.

Looking for a great photo opp with the city as your backdrop? Need to get from downtown to Cumberland Park and/or Nissan Stadium (or vice versa)? If you answered yes to either of those, then visit this bridge! Located about a block from Broadway on 2nd Street, is the city side entrance to the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge. As mentioned above, its ultimate purpose is to connect two keys areas of the city due to the river it crosses, but the main use seems to be chill walks and dope selfies/pics! I can't lie, we got a pretty legit selfie with the skyline and river behind us! What makes this bridge a little different from others I have visited in other cities is the practicality and well thought out design that features designated spaces on both sides for people to take breaks, get photos and just hang out without being a disruption to the flow of other pedestrians. There are two on each side, and obviously the ones on the city view side are always a little busier, but with that there is always a helping hand to get that perfect shot of you and your friends! Overall, it's a cool spot to visit as a tourist or as a local.

I'm sure the view is even better at dusk and night but this is a great spot for a picture! It is a bit steep so be careful of that or take the elevator.

This was such a cool experience. I've never been to any other city where you can just walk across a pedestrian bridge to get to the stadium on game day. We were staying at the Hilton Nashville in the Downtown area. It was the easiest walk ever to get to Nissan Stadium to watch our Bucs lose miserably. That didn't stop us from enjoying this wonderful trip to Nashville. There are some awesome views of the city and the stadium from this bridge. It's worth a walk over even if it's not game day. Don't miss it.

Ok. So nashville is much more than drinking and music! The riverfront is gorgeous! We were curious about the amount of construction going on but wee reminded that there was a bombing there at Christmas! They look to be rebuilding. I bet that was an amazing place proto to that as you could eat and enjoy the scenic views. Anyway, we walked down by the river and enjoyed the beautiful Nashville weather and noticed the pedestrian bridge. I high recommend taking this beautiful walk. The bridge used to be open to cars but was closed to motor vehicles. It's a great place to just decompress. They also had a huge cycling class going on. I have no idea what they do with these bikes when the class is over but it was totally packed and everyone was standing around cheering the class on. It looked like it was super fun and I'm sure they got a great workout in as we were sweating just watching them! I wanted to walk this at night but unfortunately we ran out of time. Next time Nashville! We are already planning a trip back!

Nice bridge to walk across to get a view of the Nashville skyline. Be careful that you are going across the correct bridge, because at first we almost went across the one for cars. This one is pedestrian-only. You can get a view of the other bridge from one side, and then the city view on the other. We saw a ginormous steamboat pass under us while we were there so that made for a pretty sight (and looked just like the scene on the magnet I bought to take home!)

Literally it is a pedestrian bridge. You don't drive through it. You can either enter near Nissan Stadium, home of the Titans in Cumberland Park or Downtown. I entered the bridge through Cumberland Park. There is plenty of free parking around the stadium and right at the base of the bridge. You can walk on the bridge or rent a scooter/bike and make your way up the bridge. Take plenty of photos of the Downtown skyline and the Titans Stadium on the other side. It's a great way to relax and check out downtown Nashville.

Built by John Seigen. Building this bridge had an effect on him. It made John Seigen taller. I know a lovely girl by the name of Seigenthaler - I wonder if this bridge is named after her? I love that they have a pedestrian bridge here in Nashville. You would not think that in America such things would exist, because pedestrians are mainly obsolete. Except maybe in New York City and San Francisco. But anyway pretty awesome. The views are absolutely gorgeous and there's a park on one side and the stadium on the other side. It's right down the end of Lower Broadway which is the coolest place to walk in Nashville. It's a little creepy at night which is the only reason I don't give it a 5-star rating.

This bridge is cool. Designed specifically for people I caught it on a day where there wasn't many people, which was nice. Great views of downtown and a nice spot to get some perspective. Especially if you want to think big, this is the spot in Nashville to do it.

This bridge is located right next to Broadway. It's a nice short roundtrip walk. It goes to Cumberland Park. There are nice views of another bridge, the water, and downtown Nashville. I'd recommend checking it out!

We found out about this place after parking on the city side. However, if you park before crossing into downtown here it's free. Only thing is you gotta walk on the bridge to cross over. Not so bad. Nice view.

The pedestrian bridge is a highlight of Nashville and I feel often overlooked by residents. Waking across this bridge gives you the excitement of seeing downtown Nashville for the first time and remembering why you love this city.

This is a pedestrian bridge down town Nashville. It's an awesome bridge to walk across and see down below the river. It's also an amazing experience to walk across and see the skyscrapers of down town Nashville as well as the Cumberland River down below. My Experience: A waitress at Champys told me that I can park in a certain place down town for free. She told me to park across the river from down town just before you cross the bridge but near Nissan Stadium. She told me that she always parks here for free. Well, she was right. The first time, I parked where she told me for free -but I paid $3 to ride a transit bus to take to Bridge Stone Arena. The second time I visited I parked for free but walked across this bridge for free to down town Nashville. The views from this bridge are magnificent with spectacular views as you walk across and see things getting closer as walk. History: This bridge goes across the Cumberland River and is one of the longest pedestrian bridges in the world. The bridge was built in the 1920's at a costs of about $475,000. The bridge was originally slated for demolition in the late 1990's. However, it was converted into a pedestrian bridge rather than be demolished. This bridge reminds of Walnut Street Bridge in Chattanooga, TN. It too was saved like this one by local historians. The renovation of this bridge costs about $15 million. This bridge is also famous. Big and Rich's music video "Save a Horse (Ride a Cowboy) which was shot on this bridge.

The John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge (named in honor of the journalist and civil rights advocate) was one of my favorite things from a recent whirlwind trip to Nashville. I was in town for a few shows at the Ascend Amphitheater with little time to check out the city. The bridge was not only useful but a fantastic place to view the Nashville Skyline and the Cumberland River. The bridge, one of the longest pedestrian bridges in the world, connects Cumberland Park to downtown. With parking more than a hassle in downtown, the extensive lots available near Nissan Stadium are an asset to those looking to access Broadway with ease by way of the bridge. Fortunately for me, my hotel was just across from the football stadium and therefore, an enjoyable and easy stroll over to the venue each night. The bridge itself has a spacious bike lane down the middle with elevated sidewalks to each side. There are a couple overlooks along the way to take in the expansive views. There are elevators, stairs, and ramps that make the bridge accessible to all. A must-visit as a tourist in this city. A great way to get out, stretch your legs, and breathe in some fresh air! Check it out at sunset to take some spectacular photos of downtown.

Apparently, this is the spot for photos. We saw professional and amateur photographers with their clients taking family photos, engagement photos, graduation photos, and travel photos. The view of downtown Nashville from here is magnificent. Even if you're not taking photos, it's a beautiful stroll to cross the river while enjoying a nice view of downtown.

Loses a star for the sketchy steps with the homeless sleeping around. Nice weather, benches, sit down grab a Gatorade from the guy selling waters and such. Walk a bit, sit a bit. Take a pic or two.

I went there today to check out the level of the river that runs and runs underneath the bridge. The Cumberland River was still a ways from cresting to flood dangerous levels. The bridge gives you the vantage of a beautiful view of the downtown buildings and all of the cranes and progress that is being made. If you ever have visitors from out of town please make sure you include this on a place to go during their stay.A great walking bridge and an awesome place to bike ride as well. A dog that friendly venue. Once a year they have speedboat races that you can enjoy from the bridge and in front of Nissan Stadium. I believe the boat races are conducted on Father's Day every year as a real cool opportunity to see the river in the downtown area in brace the event.

This is an awesome part of downtown and is not to be missed by tourists and local alike. We parked at the stadium and came at it from that side of the river. There is an elevator you can take to get to the bridge. Although the elevator was not that clean, the rest of the bridge was. It is wide and there are some lookout points along the way. You can see up and down the river and it has a great view of downtown Nashville. The bridge is wide and there are clear places for walker and bikers. You can spend as little as 10 minutes walking across this, or an hour taking in the sights and posing for pictures.

I love this bridge over the Cumberland in downtown Nashville. It truly is an iconic part of the skyline and makes for an easy connection to the Titans stadium. My only knock against it is as a runner or cyclist, the incline from downtown onto the bridge is really steep - far steeper than on the other side. It can make for a challenging jog up or a quick brake going downhill.

This bridge gives great views of downtown and the Cumberland River from its long, high perch. It is a great spot for events (like Wine on the River, among others), and it is a nice connection point to Cumberland Park in East Nashville from the Cumberland River Greenway. It has elevators on the east side to make it accessible and it's bikeable (slow your roll though - people are taking in the sights). There are a couple spots where the bridge deck expands for better views (get your photos and/or selfies on there) and to accommodate a few benches. I sometimes enjoy a meal from one of the benches. On nice days, especially in summer, it's full of people and tourists but it rarely feels crowded. The bridge is well lit at night, which contributes both architectural beauty and safety. You can also use this bridge as a great parking hack for events at Nissan Stadium - or vice versa when there are large events in downtown.

In spite of the impending rain, my friend and I decided to venture to the pedestrian bridge in hopes of finding some nice bridge views. This bridge seems a little steeper to get to the top, but it touts a great view of the city skyline. There were plenty of people exploring the bridge and taking pictures. We only walked halfway on the bridge since my feet were getting tired but it was a great little stroll. I'm keeping this short and sweet, but this is a simple stop along any tourist path. A great photo opportunity and is an easy stop while exploring the downtown Nashville area. A must-see in nice Nashville weather!

This bridge is absolutely beautiful to walk and gives you the perfect view of downtown Nashville. I let my friend who has never visited before create our itinerary for the day, which she constructed entirely off of Pinterest. It was a gorgeous day, being in the 60's, so it was a great time to do some outdoorsy things. The bridge starts at Shelby St. and ends over by the Nissan Stadium. You'll walk over the clear Cumberland River, maybe walk past a few street performers, and get a photo op in front of the Nashville city skyline. We walked the bridge on a Friday afternoon, and it was pretty dead. However, this made for a peaceful walk on such a perfect day. It's a great (and FREE!) attraction for tourists, especially one that will put in a good workout.

It is a bridge in downtown Nashville. Walk across it do like I did and take a scooter and fly, baby, fly! I flew downhill. Walked uphill. Then you might find yourself pound pavement like I did and get an eyeful from people biking or walking by. Luckily, when I crashed, it was night, foot traffic was light, and no one else truly saw me in all of my concrete glory except my friend who accompanied me. With that being said, be careful when riding a scooter or bike. People will fly across the bridge and won't think twice about you in the process on their cycles or scooters. People will rock that thing hardcore, too, despite being a bit ridged going uphill. You will find the occasional panhandler, but just disregard and mind your business. They mean no harm, typically. Also, be mindful of your belongings. Despite good lighting, people do get robbed here. Common sense is everything and this is the time to you use it. Views upon views. Soak it in and be quiet when doing so. You can hear the lively spirits of Broadway in the process.

Such a burgeoning city, they have a cool pedestrian only bridge. Lots of views from here. Fun to go with a rented scooter. Feels safer than the other Bridges with cars shooting past.

Nice place to walk, jog, or ride a scooter to see the Nashville skyline and Titans stadium. There is an elevator and a few places where there are benches if you need to sit a bit.

While I'm not a huge fan of Nashville, I do think that this bridge is awesome! I can only imagine the fun that football fans have on Titan game day. Being able to walk across this bridge from the stadium to downtown has to be convenient for those looking to after-party. I'd say the people that live in Nashville also love it because it means they don't have to deal with all the tourist and trying to park downtown. One thing that I love about this bridge is that it takes you right into downtown. While I love our bridge in Louisville, the 2 ends dump you in Jeffersonville(with many restaurants) or in Louisville at Waterfront Park(no immediate restaurants close by). With Nashville's bridge taking you into downtown, you're immediately in the thick of it. Museums, bars, restaurants, breweries, ice cream shops, and enough boots/cowboy hat/belt buckle stores to keep you busy for days. I do love how this bridge has platforms every so often. Those platforms make it a photographer's dream. Pictures of the river, the football stadium, the skyline, and random artwork will be taken. There were plenty of people(without feeling packed) on the bridge around 6 PM and then again around 11:30 PM. I didn't once feel like a tourist or unsafe. The last thing to note is that the bridge is steep. That doesn't really bother me, but I could see how it could make some people run away. Luckily, they have elevators on this bridge too! I couldn't bring myself to ride them because I love the exercise too much. The fluorescent lighting in them almost made me a bug drifting into a bug zapper though! I might not frequent Nashville, but anytime I visit from now on... I'll definitely take a stroll across this bridge.

Best "tourist" spot in Nashville. Loved that this bridge is strictly for pedestrians, so no need to worry about cars. I loved walking and taking in the view of Nashville's skyline and structures. It's impossible not to get a perfect photo every time. Definitely take a walk if you're up for it! It's right off of Broadway so it's super easy to find/navigate.

The 4-day weekend that was Yelp Spring Break 2014 officially ended for me Sunday at noon. That gave me pretty much a whole day to run around Nashville & get to all the places I'd heard about while in town but hadn't been to yet. My 1st stop was the closest & easiest. Fresh off the Segway of Nashville Tour, the entrance to the Shelby Street Pedestrian Bridge was about a 1/2 block away. For a nice stroll with lovely scenic views of the Cumberland river & downtown Nashville, this can't be beat. I'm guessing this bridge was once a road bridge as it is wide enough for cars. I also imagine walking across this bridge is a nice alternative to driving to LP field during sporting events. Nice job, Nashville. The Shelby Street Pedestrian Bridge is both good looking & a good idea.
