"It’s not every day you see a Hawaiian hotel open an outpost in Japan, but that’s exactly what lies inside the gently curving façade of this blue glass tower. The Kahala Hotel & Resort commits to the theme, dressing its reception staff in leis and using Hawaiian materials and techniques in the spa. But it never lapses into Vegas-style kitsch; this is ultimately a stylish and contemporary luxury hotel with a personality that sets it apart from its neighbors. Food and beverage outlets include a Hawaiian buffet but also a pair of Japanese venues and a glamorous 14th-floor Italian restaurant." - Tablet Hotels

I was excited to stay until I find out that not only tattoos not allowed, but they will make you feel like a criminal if you have them. It’s 2025, and a resort that claims to be 5 stars needs to get with the times. There are so many better spots to stay with better rules.

We stayed here for 1 night on our way to Hakone. |We booked here using Amex's fine hotel and resort. Which provided us with upgrade (which we only got a view upgrade, not a type upgrade), breakfast for 2, and 100usd resort credit. The room is very spacious per yokohama standard. The view of the Yokohama Bay is incredible both day and night. The bed was comfortable and the whole floor was very quiet.||We dined at their Japanese restaurant and ordered 2 set menu plus a kid menu (we have a 3.5yo). The Kid menu was incredible with a HUGE variety of food. Our kid gobbled 75% of the dishes happily. The adults' set menu was also fresh and extremely tasty. We would love to dine here again next time we are in the area. The in-room breakfast sets (we both ordered japanese style breakfast) were fresh, delicious and provided us with much needed energy for our next day. The hotel is walking distance to the cup noodles museum, anpanman museum, yokohama main train station and convenience stores. ||Also, big kudos to the conceirge team who helped us forward luggage right from the lobby. |We would not hesitate to stay here again next time we are in Yokohama.|

This was a girls trip. We came to get some R&R for 3 nights. We were blown away! Our room was magnificent! We had 2-twin-bed room with a view of the harbor. The room was set up that our beds faced the beautiful views and at night, it was gorgeous. Very modern room with the tablet next to bed to open/close sheer curtains and drapes, and a master lights on/off button. Nice robes and comfy bed clothes provided, and slippers too. Slept so well here.||||Breakfast in the Japanese restaurant was a wonderful experience with the private room. So many surprises from the chef. And they knew what you ate the previous morning and gives you a different menu the next day. We had in-room dining for dinner on our spa day. Too relaxed to go out after all that pampering. The meal was varied and spot-on. We also had a teppanyaki meal one night. Everything was delicious and prepared with care. Highly recommend.||||The spa treatment I had was a facial by Kaori Nakajima. She was amazing, attentive, and you can tell she loved her job. She heard that I was tired from all the walking I had done at Yokohama before arriving at the Kahala, and offered to give me a leg massage. Wow, did that make me feel so much better! Thank YOU, Kaori, you are a gem at the spa, and I'll come back for more when I return to the Kahala. The spa is connected to the fitness room and the swimming pool and jacuzzi. It's a beautiful facility that you should use. The jacuzzi is sooo nice - probably the best. It's outdoors, set at a good warm temperature, and you get a nice Yokohama view.||||I'll be back to enjoy the Kahala experience again. Thank you, to the Guest Relations Mgr, Akihisa Sakamoto, for seeing us out at checkout. This is probably the best hotel experience I've ever had.

Ok so I’ve loved staying at Kahala Yokohama but the ownership group resort trust Japan is an absolute joke and I hope all non Japanese people realize that. My wife’s family are from Japan and we visit them every year and they’re XIV members which is owned by the same company as Kahala. I have a tattoo which is literally two inches long on my arm. Since I was walking around XIV Hammamatsu without hiding my tattoo, my wife’s parents were contacted and rudely told I am not welcome at any XIV hotel and if they bring me to any XIV property they will lose their membership. There’s one thing asking politely to hide my tattoo and I understand that. I stayed at the Halekulani in Okinawa and Crown Prince Sakura this summer which are both Japanese hotels and was very politely asked to cover my tattoo and I obliged. The manner in which resort trust handled this is ridiculous. They made me and my wife’s family feel like we’re criminals for having a small tattoo. It’s unfortunate since we’ve enjoyed our stay at Kahala Yokohama and I’m sure since this Kahala is in Hawaii they follow American culture but this ownership group resort trust is ridiculous and needs to have more empathy for other cultures

Sets the standard for luxury. We stayed here for our final night in Japan and it was simply amazing. Staff: From check in through check out you are treated like royalty. They personally escort you from the the front door up to the 14th floor lobby for check in and make sure you are comfortable the whole way. The room service servers take off their shoes when they enter your room. They offer a turndown service. Simply amazing, I've never felt more welcomed anywhere in my life. Food: Unfortunately the breakfast buffet was unavailable during our visit, so we had the room service instead. We chose the hawaiian breakfast and it was utterly fantastic. The acai bowls were fresh, the eggs benedict was creative, and the fruit beautifully presented. The chefs even cut the ends off the grapes so you don't deal with any stems. If that isn't luxury I don't know what is. Room: Spacious, clean, and comfortable. The bathroom has great products including bubble bath. The bath can get so hot that I almost scalded myself by not checking the temperature first. The pajamas fit great. The bathrobes weren't sized for my frame, but they easily swapped me for a larger one. Spa: Yes you have to pay once for entry, but it is well worth the cost. The staff are wonderful, they kept the place spotless. The shower stalls had locking doors and amazing products that left my skin moisturized. The hot tub really was hot and the milky tub (micro bubbles) had my skin feeling so soft. Using the sauna and cold plunge was amazing after a full day exploring Yokohama. My spouse had two 30 minute stretching sessions at the gym (approx 4400 yen each) and was raving about how good they were. Location: This is the only place where I can take off a star, they are a bit of a walk from any metro station. The closest one is at the Queen's mall and while there is a direct walkway there, it is a journey. They do have a stop for the bayside blue bus right outside the fence, but the buses just aren't as convenient as the metro. Not a huge deal and it's not something the hotel can change but for those who love the Japanese metro system know that you will be walking. Overall, when I come back to Yokohama I look forward to another stay.
