We have stayed at The Kentucky Castle on numerous occasions, and every visit continues to feel like stepping into a fairytale. This historic property has a charm that never fades, and each time we return, we make it a point to stay in one of the towers. The tower experience is unlike anything else multi-level, full of character, and steeped in history. If you’ve never tried it, I highly recommend it, though guests should be prepared in the winter months because the stone walls and authentic design can make it quite cold inside. That is part of the magic of staying in a real castle, though, and it only adds to the authenticity.
The food here is exceptional. The property follows a farm-to-table approach, and you can taste the freshness and care in every dish. Dining at the castle feels as elevated as the setting itself, and the service is just as impressive. One highlight for me was sampling their collection of bourbons. I was lucky enough to try the legendary Pappy Van Winkle 15 Year Bourbon, which is an experience in itself. A pour of this can easily cost $80 or more depending on where you find it, but here it is part of a truly world-class bourbon selection that reflects Kentucky’s proud heritage.
The history of this place is fascinating. Originally built in 1969 by Rex and Caroline Martin, the castle has gone through decades of changes, including renovations and even a fire, before becoming the luxury destination it is today. Most recently, it was purchased by TKC Hospitality Group, and their stewardship has kept its magic alive while opening it up for weddings, corporate events, and special gatherings. Walking through the castle, you can feel the blend of old-world character and modern touches. It is also an incredibly popular wedding venue, with packages that include everything from ballroom and greenhouse spaces to stunning rooftop ceremonies. It is no surprise that it is considered one of the premier wedding locations in Kentucky, hosting receptions of up to 220 guests with ease and elegance.
The castle is easy to reach, sitting just off Pisgah Pike in Versailles, a short drive from Lexington, Blue Grass Airport, and the famed Keeneland Race Course. Parking on site is free and convenient, which makes the arrival experience simple. Around the holidays, the castle becomes even more magical, with seasonal markets, special dinners, and themed events like murder mystery evenings. The property itself is surrounded by Kentucky horse country, with nearby farms, scenic drives, and bourbon distilleries that give you the full experience of the region.
Each stay here has been a reminder of why we love it so much. Between the unique tower rooms, the outstanding food, the warmth of the staff, and the unbeatable atmosphere, The Kentucky Castle is more than just a place to stay it is a destination that transports you. Whether you are visiting for dinner, drinks, a wedding, or simply for the experience of staying overnight in a castle, it is unforgettable. For anyone considering it, don’t hesitate. This is a Kentucky treasure that only gets better with time.
