A New Wave of Hotels Wants You to Shop Their Interiors | Vogue

"Just metres from the Shivaji Park shoreline, this spirited, sun-drenched boutique hotel in Mumbai occupies a building with deep family roots, once a two-star property owned by the founders’ grandfather and now reimagined by siblings Imrun Sethi and Guneet Singh as a spend-worthy stay that prioritises personality. The lobby doubles as a gallery and the corridors become a talismanic trail of the siblings’ global travels, while Singh’s eye for antiques fills the 15 rooms and common areas with ‘rabbit holes’ of discovery: winged, tasselled armchairs, tables that seem to melt in dripping metal, and a dedicated under-stair vinyl listening booth for solo retreats. Each room feels like an individual character study, layered with Jaisalmer stone, chevron-patterned floors, and retro push-button rotary phones sourced from Delhi’s antique markets. Almost everything guests encounter can be pre-ordered and shipped home, including a rotating collection of contemporary art curated by A&H Collab, sculptural floor lamps with signature squiggles, and even the bespoke bed throws, making the hotel as much a portal to collectible design as a place to sleep." - Stephanie Gavan

I couldn't have been happier with staying at Kin. Very easy access from the airport. Overall a great hotel, and very comfortable and beautiful rooms, but the best thing about it was the owner/manager Kapoor. We came stressed and tired after a long stay in the airport after some issues, and needed to quickly sort out a few things ahead of a wedding. Kapoor went above and beyond for us, and spent a lot of his time to helping us. His warmth and kindness stayed with us during our whole India trip.

Wow! loved this hotel so much and so pleased we found it. The attention to detail is next level - the rooms are extremely stylish, the front desk has the most gorgeous interiors shop and then the bar/restaurant is such a fabulous addition. We travelled all over India for a month and this was by far the best boutique hotel we stayed in. highly recommend and great location too!

I had the most wonderful stay at ‘The Kin.’ It is a very clean and tastefully done boutique hotel. Hotel staff is super helpful and prompt as well. I had taken the standard room but the hotel staff themselves realised that the phone in my room wasn’t working so they immediately upgraded my room with no extra charges. My stay also had breakfast included at their restaurant Tert. You wouldn’t have a spread of 30 mediocre items but surely get 15 great options to choose from (a main dish, a beverage and a small portion of dessert)! What you see in pictures is what you get!

Stunning hotel, brilliant service and great location. We have been visiting Mumbai the past few years on business trips and The Kin Hotel is a breath of fresh air. Perfect first time experience and this is now our go to for this part of India.

There's no mistaking the eye for design that went into making The Kin an elevated experience. Lovely people, beautiful bathrooms, sunlit rooms, great smelling toiletries, easy accessibility to South Mumbai & a real bonus having the Turtulia restaurant for amazing food.

I booked this place after seeing the reviews. Its a good location no doubt but over priced for the facilities. I stayed for 2 days and the breakfast option was limited. The most annoying thing was that there was construction work going on that I was not informed earlier. With sound and the dust from construction, I wasn't able to work or take calls. The place has been done tastefully but what people need is peace especially when they are travelling for work and are on a tight schedule.

We stayed in 101 (corner suite) and had an OK experience. Rooms were beautifully designed however… ❌ Soundproofing, we could hear the dogs barking all night ❌ Hot Water, this was only a problem for 101

Our recent trip to Mumbai was truly exceptional, largely thanks to a delightful discovery—The Kin Hotel. This charming, intimate boutique hotel in Dadar features just 15 uniquely curated rooms and is run by the wonderful brother-sister duo, Imrun and Guneet, who are always available for a friendly chat.⁣ ⁣ From the moment we arrived, it felt like coming home. The rooms are beautifully decorated, each with its own distinct character and grandeur. The entire team was warm and welcoming, and a special shout-out to Kapil—you truly stole the show and are an absolute star!⁣ ⁣ Dadar is a hidden gem—a charming, underrated neighborhood that's perfect for walking, with an abundance of fantastic eateries that offer a variety of choices. Thankfully, it remains largely free of the chaotic construction that plagues many other areas in Mumbai, which, combined with its mature trees, lends it an old-world charm that feels refreshing compared to the bustling concrete jungle.⁣ ⁣ Mumbai certainly needs more intimate stays like The Kin Hotel. We’re looking forward to making it our go-to spot every time we visit the city!
