This was eye opening. Such a beautiful restaurant, a very popular restaurant too, it was extremely busy and for good reason because the food and drinks are incredible. We walked in and were offered seats at the bar until a table became free. The bar staff were sensational and friendly and made some amazing off the menu cocktails. When we got to our table upstairs, thats when a few hiccups came about, it was busy so we didnt mind, but all 4 of our orders were incorrect, but at the same time it made dinner interesting, the food tasted amazing regardless. We will definitely be back, hopefully on a less busy night. Thank you

My birthday and my friend’s birthday are two days apart, so we decided to celebrate with dinner at The Kitchen at SkyCity. I originally booked for 7:15 pm and requested a change to 7:30 pm via the booking notes. I received an email confirming this, which I appreciated. However, when we arrived, our booking had been moved to 9:15 pm without any notice. Thankfully, the gentleman at the ground floor reception was very kind and managed to sort out a table for us. The food itself was very good. We did the “feed me” menu and really enjoyed the small plate of meat with pear — it was outstanding. The main courses were also good overall, though the steak was extremely rare and we were never asked how we wanted it cooked. Unfortunately, the service in the cellar area on the second floor was disappointing. One staff member was lovely, the asian girl and the male staff, but another staff member treated us noticeably differently, she’s average height, gold earrings, sharp eyebrows, looks like she’s the floor manager at that area. While she checked on other tables and poured their wine, she skipped our table entirely. Our wine was taken away while it was still half full without asking, and unlike other tables, we were asked to walk up to the counter to collect our bill rather than having it brought to us. It also took time for them to take our order. The experience left us feeling uncomfortable. Overall, the venue is beautiful with a great setting and ambiance, and the food is good. However, due to the service experience, we would not return. It’s a nice place for photos, but not one I would recommend for the overall dining experience.

Wow! Stopped into The Kitchen late this afternoon. Omg! Very cool venue but omg the food! Have to say the best steak I've ever had! Cooked to perfection! And the octopus!! Wow cooked perfectly! Will be back! Outstanding!

Was able to come to this restaurant in the city for dinner and was greeted by the great vibes and ambiance of the place. Was hoping to see what it’s like to be seated on their second floor but was pretty happy to be seated in front of the open kitchen so I was quite entertained seeing how everything was being prepared in the kitchen! We were going to go for the feed me menu but ended up just choosing a few things off the menu instead. Thought my salmon serving was quite small and skinny compared to what I saw after more dishes were being served out - their cuts of salmon were clearly on the thicker side, so was pretty disappointed especially for the price this was. The burger was pretty good, freshly grilled patty which was nice and juiced so would definitely recommend this one! Was going to order their steaks as well but I knew I would’ve been too full for that. Sides were great and flavourful too! This is definitely a place I would suggest for a special night or dinner with family!

What's not to like about the $1 oysters that they've revived beyond the winter months? (Though the oysters are likely from estuary/river areas cos of the more metallic tastes after the winter special, but still good for that price point!) Beyond that though, they're pretty consistent in the quality of their beef and lamb dishes and I'd recommend it as a great dinner place if you're in the sky city or surrounding areas! Also, have to mention the extensive alcohol menu - you know they mean business when the alcohol menu is leatherbound while the food menu is a slip of hard paper ;)

Disappointing Experience – Would Not Return Unfortunately, the food at this restaurant really missed the mark. • The octopus was tough, not fresh, and completely lacking in flavour. It felt like an afterthought. • The beef tartare was overly salty and incredibly bland. This was actually the first time I’ve ever had beef tartare and not enjoyed it — really disappointing. • The smashed potato was a scam. It wasn’t smashed, nor was it crispy. It was just a baked potato with some parmesan sprinkled on top — nothing like what you’d expect from proper smashed potatoes. • The sourdough bread was actually great, but the menu promised whipped butter, and what came out was cold, hard, regular cut butter. Definitely not what was advertised. Service was good and the staff were attentive, but unfortunately, the food was not enough to bring me back.

I ordered a beef for main meal, I requested for a well done meat, when the food came out it was raw, I asked for it be taken back and it was. After about 15-20mins, I was served an over cooked small dry beef. Tasted so bland. Also the chips that were served as a side was too dry. The food is not cheap either.
