4 Best Day Trips from Seattle | Condé Nast Traveler

"This winery is a trifecta: wine tasting room, restaurant, and artist studio where they do glass fusing. Give yourself enough time to linger through all three. Lunch, though, is what makes it a worthy destination. The farm-fresh food is expertly paired with their wines and a selection of local beers, and the vintners and brewers themselves often come to eat here. Catch the right day and you may also get treated to some live music." - Jenna Scatena, Allison Williams

Google
Went for an early dinner for Happy Hour. Tyler & Christian were great! I had a glass of the happy hour red and the Chicken Salad Croissant, both excellent!! Great service and atmosphere! Will definitely be back!

Tiffany Rohdenburg

Google
Celebrated my 40th birthday at Barnard Griffin and the staff, food and wine were all unbelievably amazing! Thank you for a memorable evening, Barnard Griffin!

Google
Fantastic food! Poutine is to die for and the burger is fantastic

Google
Great atmosphere, service, and most importantly delicious food.

Yelp
Our waitress was so friendly and helpful! We absolutely loved tasting the rose of Sangiovese, orange muscat, and syrah port and ended up taking all of them home. Smaller patio space but so cute and delicious food options!

Yelp
This has been in my radar for quite a long time. Stopped by for a quick tasting on the way back from Trj Cities. Wish we had more time because they have a beautiful restaurant and a nice patio too. Add to it some really delicious nibbles. The pours were generous. We bought two bottles and got a tasting waived. Dodo was my favorite! Very friendly wait staff. The baguette and the dip paired nicely with all the wine we had. Will definitely be back soon!

Yelp
Did the wine flight. It was a gorgeous day and was able to sit outside. Because it was so warm I ordered whites. I will be back to try their reds. Great service!
google avatar

Michael C.

Yelp
Wine, food and service was fantastic. I'm definitely going back here when I get back to Tri-Cities!

Yelp
A couple tasting flights out on the patio and relaxed table service for a casual afternoon sip. Flatbread $15 is flatbread and the Soup Du Jour $9 is soup. We come here for the Orange Muscat but we also enjoyed the Albarino. $15 tasting fee credited back to the bill when you purchase 2 bottles ;)

Scott M.

Yelp
Great service and awesome selection of wines They also offered chilled bottles. Cool atmosphere. Check this place out. Pull in and go behind the buildings from road and you will see where to park!

Yelp
Went for dinner after a day of wine tasting. Loved it. Delicious food, wonderful wine.

Yelp
Delicious fresh salads ...my favorite Orange Moscato... lovely decor, and comfortable seating with friendly service and inviting atmosphere. I cannot wait to return in the summer and enjoy their outdoor patio and live music.

Yelp
First time here, recently moved to TriCities area. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. Order their Charcuterie plate and absolutely loved the presentation and the taste of everything on the board. We ordered the Cotes de Rob and it was delicious! We will be back to do a wine tasting and to try more on their menu.

Beckie P.

Yelp
Been a member for ever. They never disappoint in their wine, service or food. We went there today to pick up our shipment and decided to do a tasting too. The food choices looked so amazing we ordered the rosemary fries and the three different spreads (Pumpkin hummus, chicken salad and caramelized onion dip) which were served with a baguette they all were excellent. The portions were more than enough to share and we could have easily ordered just one of the choices we made. We shipped through the tasting and in the end not only picked up our order we also left with a mixed case of wines. Gabriella was just amazing with her knowledge of the wines and her lovely personality. Great patio and such a relaxing atmosphere to enjoy marvelous wine, service and food.

Ashlee V.

Yelp
The service was amazing and the experience was perfect. It was my first wine tasting and I'm glad I did it here. Bought 2 bottles at the end of our tasting.

Yelp
One of my favorite places to taste wine in the Tri-Cities! Barnard Griffin is consistently good across vintages and their knowledge about making wine is clear! My mom and I tasted all the wines they had available ($15 for a tasting of four) and they were each unique and excellent. Our favorites were the Albariño, Roussanne, Barbera and Reserve Merlot! It's a really nice tasting room with very pretty grounds, so it's perfect for a tasting or to just enjoy a glass and some snacks. The service is knowledgeable and friendly as well. We each purchased two bottles after our tasting, which waves the tasting fee. Will definitely be back for more wine soon!

Yelp
A friend recommended this winery as a great value place. I came in for business and unfortunately missed happy hour and the tasting room, which closes at 4:45 pm (IKR?). I ordered the House Hummus- amazing! - and the Pappardelle - even more amazing!! Cotes du Rob (Red) was the perfect pairing. So the service was solid but don't ask for anything that you won't be willing to pay for. For example, they don't give you enough hummus but are more than happy to charge you for another order. You get my point...
google avatar

Bob B.

Yelp
Very Good wines, presented well and beautiful facility. If there is a down side it would be their prices for tasting and wine purchases. Being from Northern California I was surprised that our visit cost as much as the more expensive wines and frankly better wineries of Napa, which are too expensive for us as well.
google avatar

Idil A.

Yelp
This place has a nice atmosphere with nice staff and good service. During the happy hours (tue to sat 3-5pm & 8-9pm) glass of red wine is $5 and the perfect reserved cabarnet savignon is $9. So it is a great deal to taste the delicious wine. Food is also good, I had the best pork chops and the greatness of the plate was noted by others too. If you're gonna visit for a Saturday dinner, I recommend you to make a reservation.
google avatar

Patti R.

Yelp
Hugh quality, reasonable prices and knowledgeable, friendly staff. You can buy exceptional Riesling, rosé and red blends for about $11-$12 and step up to about $22-$25 for an array of other varietals, blends and the try premium-level reds for another price bump.

Yelp
Had a party of 10. Molly nailed it. She has a ton of knowledge of what she's serving and how it came to be...very very tasty wine. I wish I would have had a chance to experience the food before Covid shut the door on it. The reviews spoke very highly of it. Thank you Terry and Molly..

Yelp
What great wine their reserve chardeney has a perfect balance of flavor, so good I took a bottle back to Virginia. All of the wines I tasted were full of flavor. I don't ever recall doing a tasting that I could give 5 stars to every wine I tasted. My next visit I'm going to try their restaurant. Hats off to the wine maker. Mean while back in Virginia I popped the cork on my Reserve Chardonnay and enjoyed every sip, I find it hard to find the right words to describe their Reserve Chardonnay, here goes buttery [light] oaky [just enough] fruit [smooth on front just a touch of tang on the back]

Gumba C.

Yelp
Great wines and Kristin in tasting room was fantastic. Highly recommend . We joined their wine club at visit. Many options of clubs to choose from
google avatar

Brent K.

Yelp
Barnard Griffin Winery had excellent service and excellent food. Our waitress was incredibly discrete while still giving us excellent service. I had the pork chop which was excellent. I also drank their Cabernet Sauvignon which was good--$5 during happy hour. Hoping to be back soon!

Yelp
The Griffin label of Barnard Griffin proved to be among my favorite wines of our recent trip east to Central WA. BG's "Tulip" label is commonly found in Seattle markets, so we were excited to try the less-common Griffin line-up. Our friendly hostess was full of pride for Tri-Cities/Yakima Valley wine and her enthusiasm was infectious. Earning my raves are: 2008 Grenache (a Washington version of pinot noir that goes well with salmon) 2008 Pinot Gris (a nice bright wine to pair with oysters...I'm sold!) 2007 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (cherry and dark berry notes) 2007 Malbec (peppery!) 2008 Orange Muscat (great for brunch)

Yelp
Had such a great time at Bernard Griffin! My friend and I made it in time for happy hour, and we were not disappointed. The food and the wine were delicious...and the live music created a super fun atmosphere. From the happy hour: Burger: cooked to perfection, juicy meat, delicious brioche bun, garnish perfectly. Onion rings: where have these been all my life? Next time I come back I will order these first thing. The sauce that a company these onion rings was to die for. Give me a spoon!!! Green goddess salad: unique and unexpected flavor. Not your average salad! I loved the pepper flavor that the endive brought. I think Bernard Griffin is underrated and flies below the radar. But give it a try! I want to come back again for happy hour.

Yelp
The orange muscat and eggplant Parmesan flatbread are delicious! There is also a chardonnay from the Columbia Valley that they offer. There are pear, vanilla, and candied ginger notes.
google avatar

Harold A.

Yelp
Took my mother here for some wine tasting and decided on this location. Pretty nice facilities with a nice restaurant inside. You can choose to do a tasting or just sit and eat in the restaurant. Wine was all pretty good and food was good as well. Would go back again

Yelp
Came here after a very disappointing experience at Tagaris winery and this place is what I expected at a winery. Kirk greeted me on arrival and was there and present throughout the tasting. He was knowledgeable about the wines I tasted and made it a very enjoyable experience.
google avatar

A J.

Yelp
Visited the tasting room about 4 pm. There was nobody else there, two gals behind the bar conversing. They seemed a little taken aback when we walked but recovered. As the tasting began, it became apparent to us that our expectations were way to high. The gal was pleasant enough but distracted and a tad aloof. Not much in the way of story or descriptions. Spent most of the time focusing on periphery conversations and every time we looked up she was watching someone else in the background. The wines were basic at best. Disappointing really. The price per bottle not justified. Not sure were the 4+ stars come from? Probably one of the worst tasting experiences we have had to date. Checked off the list and will not be back.
google avatar

Barbara K.

Yelp
First stop on a girls trip, and what a great find! Our tasting host, Kirk (Curt?--I didn't ask him to spell it!) was personable, very knowledgeable, and helpful. He guided us through several wines, helped us pick other wineries to visit on our trip. The wines were delicious, and we brought several home with us. (He even told us where to buy a cooler for them cheaply!) Thanks for a great afternoon!
google avatar

Amelia G.

Yelp
The place is cozy and beautiful! Spending a summer afternoon there was just great - food was amazing

VAL L.

Yelp
The wines were wonderful, the facilities charming, but the woman who did our tasting was not informative or engaging at all--we had to ask questions to get information about the wines and felt rushed during our tasting. It could have been a fun and educational experience but was lacking.

Yelp
Last night, the staff at BG, blew me away with their stellar service, food and wine. I arrived at 4:30 for ladies night, to find out the wine tasting room was closed for a private event. I never thought the following would happen. The cute brunette behind the tasting room, personally brought in wine tastings for me and my friends to enjoy. Our waiter, Tyler, was attentive, professional, and perfect in every way. (Even as the group of ladies increased:). We walked away from our typical Ladies Night, which we have never frequented the same place twice, with an unanimous decision that BG is where our ladies night will happen every month. I've only been a member for a month now, and I have never been so appreciative of a decision in my life. Forever a member.....HB

Yelp
A very small tasting room, but nicely decorated with lots of little nooks and seating and a nice outdoor gazebo with a decent view and even more outdoor seating. The guy pouring the tastes was super nice and chatty. The price was pretty cheap, though the pours were small. Some very interesting specialty wines and an amazing port!

Kim B.

Yelp
Tastings at this winery at $13.80 each, which is cheaper than the average $15, but the wine pour is about a tablespoon. Seriously, this is the smallest pour we had in all of wine country. I would pass on this winery. The Hedges Estate was the best the wine pour and much better quality wine.

Yelp
What a gem! We have been in the Tri-cities for a couple of years now & why we had not been th Barnard Griffin I can not explain but we plan to return! The restaurant atmosphere was wonderful, the food superb and our waiter outstanding. I loved the 2013 Cab Reserve & would highly recommend it. The Merlot I had was just average. But this is the place I cannot wait to go back to!
google avatar

Brittany B.

Yelp
We popped in here for a casual Saturday afternoon glass of wine, and stayed for three hours. Sierra (at the bar in the dining room) is what kept us there. She was warm, thoughtful, and fun to talk to. Tied for first in the experience is the food - you cannot go wrong!
google avatar

Yelp
We have been doing a tour of the local wineries lately, and finally landed at BG. Cute little outside patio for the nice weather, and a nice little tasting room on the inside (artwork and artisan foods are sold inside). They have two tastings, one of the BN Tulip label ($5 tasting fee refundable with purchase of wine, these are the wines that you will see in local restaurants), and one of the limited production Reserve Label ($10 and same deal as above). We ordered one of each tasting to share so we could compare the wines. No surprise, the reserves are hands down the winners. The Merlot and Voignier (we took this one home for seafood!) were two of my favorites. We specifically enjoyed out conversations with the wine server, she was very pleasant and knowledgeable about both the winery and the Tri-Cities area in general. The wines aren't amazing overall, but there are some nice bottles in the reserve line-up.
google avatar

Jamie C.

Yelp
Loved the live music! Great wine, service and atmosphere . The fried chicken was delicious!
google avatar

Brenda T.

Yelp
I brought my friend here to celebrate her completing nursing school. We were initially met with a friendly attentive hostess . That went downhill quick because after bringing us our initial drink... she never came back. So much for enjoying that happy hour. Not a great selection of wine available for happy hour either. Do better!

Yelp
This winery is tucked in between two wanna-be powerhouse wineries that are always packed with cars and pretensions. After becoming frustrated with the usual winery scene, I drove into the Barnard Griffin driveway and found a surprisingly serene atmosphere and ample parking. If I am looking for a place to relax on a weeknight--this is my spot. They have a little bit of everything on the menu depending on the night. Most nights it's the usual menu of a meat and cheese board, soup, salads, hummus, flatbreads, or paninis. On Thursdays, they have a Build Your Own Burger bar (beef, turkey or portobello) with different toppings. As for the wine--it is a solid choice. For those who may not like wine, they have beer and non-alcoholic choices. And for the dessert lover--try the s'more panini! It even comes with its own roasted marshmallow.
google avatar

LisaLisa F.

Yelp
Such a pretty and fun place. We will be coming back! All the glassware they exhibit is over the top expensive. Do the Reserve tasting and then go next door to Bookwalter for Tapas and music outside on the patio.
google avatar

Rusty F.

Yelp
We came across this winery when out and about touring and really enjoyed their wine selections. The staff was very friendly and informative. We apparently had just missed out on a large crowd that had just left when we arrived, we had been told they keep very busy with several visitors throughout the week. This winery offers a place to sit and eat also. They also make glass decor onsite and offer classes. Very interesting. We'll return.
google avatar

Bob R.

Yelp
This is one of Washington's best wineries! We've been so many places, and the wine here just can't be surpassed. Service was friendly, tastings were generous. This is THE PLACE to taste wine in the tri-cities area.
google avatar

JungWoo L.

Yelp
I don't know about wine well. However, this place is so nice for beginner to learn wine. All of server are kind. (ever though only two step....) I can taste nice wines. Reasonable price, so I bought 3 bottles.
google avatar

Charlene G.

Yelp
Last night was our first time visiting this winery. The service was friendly and the food was delicious. It was a beautiful evening to sit outside. The wine was pretty expensive, but very tasty. We will definitely go here again.
google avatar

Allison L.

Yelp
My family and I had my brother's wedding rehearsal dinner at Barnard Griffin in September of 2014. It took a little while to work out the details, but Lori and staff were accommodating and professional. We rented out the tasting/event room, and it was beautifully decorated. The event was amazing. The staff members were welcoming and food was exactly what we wanted. Everything was fresh and delicious. They have a great selection of food, wine, and beer. I didn't get a chance to visit the outdoor patio or the gazebo, but there was live music that night, and everything looked great. I highly recommend Barnard Griffin for any event (or wine tasting, or just a hang-out place). Just as an FYI, Barnard Griffin is between two other wineries and parking can be limited nearby at times. There is a larger gravel lot on the left hand side, just as you turn on to Windmill Lane.
google avatar

Laren B.

Yelp
Our visit was spent entirely in the tasting room but we had a glorious time tasting wines and chatting with the staff. They were so friendly and lovely to talk to. Even as they got busy they remained helpful and attentive. Also, their wines are delicious! We had a non-wine drinker trying a couple as well as some seasoned wine tasters finding favorites. Its a small cozy atmosphere in here which makes it even more lovely to stay and enjoy. They also have trivia nights on Tuesdays in their cafe which I found wonderful considering there isn't anything else to do on a Tuesday night in Richland. I was defintely impressed by both their red and whites. Trying their rose and merlot is a must. I found the tasting prices reasonable as well. Great job, Barnard Griffin! I will look out for your products in Seattle grocers.
google avatar

Jean-Paul D.

Yelp
Love the wines and the food is good- We were told last week that the menu is changing to add actual entrees which is a welcome addition. Our waiter was very nice, knowledgeable. my only complaint is that the band was too loud. In a small place like that I wouldn't think one needs speakers... It's a lot more laid back than either of it's neighbors, which i like a lot- fun place to run too after a long day, just to chill. If they can manage a good outdoor space, i think it will be a hit!
google avatar

Jake R.

Yelp
I would have given this place 5 stars for the wine but the blonde lady with glasses who works there was straight up rude. I'm not sure if she was just ready to be off work, or if she doesn't like a group of 28 year old men, but she had a nasty attitude and tried to hide it well. However, she still came off rude. It was our 2nd wine testing ever so we were new to it all. The guy with glasses was nice though. Loved the rosé
google avatar

Stacie N.

Yelp
Good wine, but the blonde woman with the glasses is very rude & unwelcoming. She made me & my friend feel very unwelcome.

Yelp
Went for lunch on Saturday and it was quiet. A beautiful day so we sat on the lovely patio and enjoyed a most delicious pair of sandwiches. The Lambwich was great, like I've never had lamb...sliced thin like roast beef with a delicate flavor on a good roll. I'm a bread person and this roll looked like cibatta but the crumb was airy and light. Spouse loved his croque monsieur. I had the flight of 3 red wines, (Barbera+++) and all were very, very good w/generous pours. We're just passing through, but if we lived here, we'd be back.
