The L.A. Grand Hotel Downtown

I decided to stay at the LA Grand because the prices were affordable and the location was amazing. I had read a few disturbing reviews but my stay was perfect. I stayed in a penthouse suite with a city view. The bathroom was astonishing. My flight didn’t leave until midnight so I asked could I keep my bags there while I kill time and they were very nice about it. I met the manager, very nice gentleman. Overall my stay was a 5/5. Def would recommend. The lobby is beautiful. Only thing I would suggest is more stuff in the pool area. It has a beautiful view just needs some colorful cabanas

Beautiful hotel, but the front desk person wasn't very friendly, our room was obviously not cleaned well because the bathroom floor was visibly dirty with hair and stains. Then when I go to the pool it's fully crowded with people and there aren't enough loungers or chairs, people ended up laying on the ground or on the grass. So I just ended up leaving. I've had much better stays at hotels much cheaper then this. Looks like they want to worry about it looking nice but they forget to focus on quality. Pretty disappointed I must say.

Booking information never made it from my corporate required travel service. Hotel staff accommodated and honored the booking rate. Provided a very nice and clean suite. Hotel staff were very helpful. Housekeeping was very thorough and did a great job. Bed was firm, which I prefer. Down pillow, soft towels. Hotel gift shop very over priced (small bottle of Evian $4.99 , medium bottle $8.99) for the area worth getting your water and supplies elsewhere. Note that the hotel does not open the gift shop.

A very nice, modern, recently renovated hotel. The lobby is expansive and open with plenty of places to sit. The rooms were nicely decorated and very comfortable. I used the gym and found it well stocked with good equipment, although it was a tad humid in there. The pool is outdoors among some gardened areas. It's not an overly huge pool, but not small either. I was lucky enough to have a menu tasting from the hotel restaurant and everything was really quite delicious (surprisingly so - I didn't need to eat at the time but I kept on eating because it was all so tasty). The hotel is right downtown, so if you are looking to be downtown you are right in the middle of things. Los Angeles, of course, is a huge city with many different parts so I would just say make sure you know where you are going during your trip before making a selection (meaning: Disneyland is an hour or more away, for example.)

Great downtown location. The hotel staff could not have been more courteous and helpful! The first floor restaurant and lobby bar were very comfortable with very good food at reasonable prices! Rooms were a comfortable size with very comfortable bedding - mattress, pillows & linens! Easy highway/street access. I'd definitely stay here again!

Beautiful entrance in lobby area. Also parking available directly across the street for a smaller fee instead hotel parking usage. (Parking Option) Full service and amenities on site including a car rental service and lobby market. I absolutely adore this property. The front desk service rep at the counter did an outstanding job being that I checked in at like 4 a.m. w/my two younger daughters. She was very courteous, accommodating, and quick. *Update 2022: It is w/great regret that I have since learned that this property may NOT be the same as listed with regard to my review. There has been changes etc. It USED to be Gorgeous.

The hotel was better than expected. It is right next to a busy highway so I expected the noise to be greater than it was. It was loud during the day, but not so bad during the night. The management should use white noise machines in the rooms that face the highway. The staff was highly attentive, which really made the stay a good one. The room was clean and did not show any signs of poor care. Keep up the good work!

Decent service, but you're only given one small wash towel per room. There were two of us and they would not give us another. But other than that, the room service is pricey (as all room services are), the valet parking was nice, and the restaurant downstairs was amazing. Great manager, he was so nice! We stayed during a K-Con event. Beautiful town and hotel.

This is no longer a hotel. It is a place where homeless people are allowed to live. I've unfortunately met the staff. There is no rehabilitation that goes on here. 95% of the people who work here, wouldn't know how to have compassion or understanding, let alone be qualified to offer any kind of coaching or guidance to others. This is plain and simple, a scam on the California tax payer. We know how much money is stuffed into the pockets of the CEOs of the corporations who run these programs who sell their services to the public as "housing the homeless". GET OUT!!!

My and friend I stayed at this hotel for a weekend and it was overall an enjoyable stay. The first few steps in front of the main entrance was definitely grand! Loved the ambience it created and the decor was nice. However, one couch had a huge rip in the cushion that you could've seen yellow sponge. ****NO FREE WIFI!! you have to pay to use it! ‍**** Our room did not have an iron. We called and requested one and over an hour had elapsed and still no iron. Luckily we weren't in any dire need of it. Since we were leaving the room we decided to stop by the desk and informed that we've been waiting for over and hour and still no iron. It was fairly clean and bathroom was nice.

Our experience at the LA Grand was great, and we really enjoyed our time at the hotel. We were torn as to where to stay in LA since we wanted to visit a few areas around town andnknew that we would need to pay for parking while figuring out how to get around the town in the most effective way. We chose this hotel based on a combination of location, price, and reviews on other sites. We were happy with the choice. Checking was easy and only took a few minutes. We wanted a room that was away from the highway so we could have some quiet, and we're lucky to be on the other side of the building on the Penthouse floor. The windows were huge and the views were grand, and while you could hear some street noise it wasn't bad considering the fact you're in downtown LA. The room was large and clean and looked fairly updated. The lighting was great with ambient lighting and the room included a mini fridge. Parking was $50 a night, which we had factored into our stay. It was super easy to get our car so long as we called ahead of time. The only complaint was that in rush hour traffic it was hard to navigate the road that the hotel is on especially if your navigation wants you to get all the way over to make a right turn. But that's really the only complaint.. We didn't have time to enjoy the pool or restaurants so I can't comment on those, but overall our stay was pleasant.

From the moment I arrived I felt un-welcomed. First the valet took several cars that arrived after mine. They asked me if I was checking in and I said yes. They never told me the price ($50!) I said "Wow that's pretty steep". He said "then you can park somewhere else". I would have gone somewhere else right then but my reservation wasn't able to be canceled at that point. The person checking me was pleasant but extremely brief. He never told me what types of amenities they offered or anything of the sort. To my surprise, the pool that I was looking forward to was under renovation. I wandered the hotel for about 30 minutes and nobody looked me in the eye or even gave a half hearted smile. I've only been here 2 hours and can't wait to leave.

Horrible hotel and staff. The hotel may look nice on the outside, but the unwelcoming staff made this a horrible experience that no one should have to deal with. Would NOT recommend this hotel to anyone.

Horrible hotel. I was there for 3 nights for my business meetings due to the JW Marriott room was sold out. I was an Elite Expedia member, and they told me that I should be eligible for the room upgrade. Guess what, the 'upgraded' room was on the fourth floor over looking the freeway. I could not imagine what the non upgraded room would be like! Super noisy from the outside and within the interior as some of the guests were so loud in the middle of night and 3am in the morning. Also the valet parking is $48 per night is ridiculously expensive for this hotel service. The check in staffs weren't police and welcoming. I would not recommend and would never stay at this hotel.

If you're looking for a somewhat affordable place to lay your head close to the downtown area, then this should be fine. If you're looking for a clean, comfortable experience for more than a night or two...keep searching. The biggest problem here is lack of attention to detail. I understand it's an old hotel and the decor certainly shows that, but that doesn't excuse a dirty room. We were placed in an accessible room (no problem) but the shower chair was disgusting - keep 5 feet away at all times. The shower head was also crusted with grime and the ceiling had some questionable splatter patterns. Combine this all with serratia bacteria (what some people call "pink mold") growing on the shower curtain and you're better off finding a public bathroom to use. Nasty nasty nasty.

Long story short....someone stole my pillow after I forgot to take it when I checked out. I stayed at the hotel for 2 weeks for my company's training and I brought my own memory foam pillow with grey pillow cover. it definitely looks and feels different than the hotel ones. I did not realize I forgot my pillow after I got home on Sunday night. since then, I been calling the hotel every day for my pillow but they just told me no one has seen it or find it. not even the cleaning crew. I am furious that someone would take my pillow and most likely be the cleaning person. They really need to upgrade their outdated window to make it more sound proof. I couldn't sleep well at night due to the hotel is right between a busy street and freeway.. Super noisy.

Stayed here for LA Comicon. It's very much a 'business' hotel. Don't be expecting nice pool areas of cool spa treatments, it's all business, makes sense considering its in the biz section of DTLA. Pros: Huge room, spacious and comfortable. Friendly and efficient staff. Perfect location, just a 20 min walk down to the Convention Center. Clean and antiseptic feel (which I like). Pricing, very reasonable for what you get. Cons: I take it construction and renovation was going on? Huge stain on the carpet right before the doors into the main lobby. Not one of those funky boutique hotels, no frills business hotel. I would stay here again for sure and I'm not sure why so many people have given such low ratings for this hotel.

The Good: The place has a great aesthetic in the lobby. The bed was pretty cozy. The food at the restaurant was above average. The bad: The carpet in the room looked and felt like it was from the late 60s. The pillows in the bed become paper thin after an hour. The shower was either freezing cold or scalding hot. No I'm between. We also had no tub and a Fold up shower bench that had chunks of mildew fall off it when the shower water hit it. The air in the room was so dry that my wife and I got multiple bloody noses in our sleep. This has never happened to us before.

Myself and a coworker stayed here for 3 nights and 4 days for a conference. Be careful when you're looking for the driveway, you might just miss it, I know I did!! Once we found the entrance we asked valet if there was self parking which there is not. (This is the -1 star part) you MUST valet your vehicle and it costs $50 a night!! At the end of my stay I paid $150 on top of the cost of the stay at the hotel. The hotel is beautiful, clean, lots of artwork everywhere and the employees are very nice!! The room was clean, we shared a room with 2 queen beds, my only gripe is my mattress was uneven, if I was on the right side I'd roll to the left because the left side was worn down so the right side was up high and I'd roll down to the used left side. Although it was uneven it was comfortable to sleep in. The furniture in the room was a bit worn down, the bathroom was nice but the stand alone shower was super tight.The conference room was well lit, the cooling and heating system was ran pretty well and the breakfast was really good. The lunch that was provided by the hotel was your typical hotel catering experience. The hotel is located walking distance to Grand Central Market and other points of interest.

Wow the worst customer services I've experienced in my life time and I been all over the world , The valet parking staff ... Wow maybe I rented the wrong car ??? But wow they told me to park across the street "World Trade Center Parking " ... After that I went to the bar to have a drink , Spoke Spanish my Mothers tongue . The bar tender looked at me with disgust because I'm half Asian .... Fuck that place !!!

I was Injured from the bed slipping from the bed frame. The hotel treated me horribly! Not one employee apologized or offered assistance in fact when I asked to extend the stay due to my injury and not being able to drive home, they confirmed it but after security made the report for the injury I got a phone call on my cell from a very unprofessional and rude lady who informed me that security was coming to escort of out of the room. I couldn't even wall I felt super embarrassed and stressed out being forced to vacate the room after I was approved to extend. My bf spent over $1,000 gambling in the casino and and way we were treated as paying customers is very unacceptable. The employee are very negligent and have know care or consideration for their guests. They also did not clean our room the 2 nights we stayed even though I had requested them to. Horrible hotel, very unfriendly and under qualified staff. SAVE YOURSELF AND BOOK SOMEPLACE ELSE. MOTEL 6 IS BETTER THAN THIS GARBAGE HOTEL. I can't believe not one manager or staff member apologized or offered a discount on the room or anything. Horrible is an understatement.

This hotel was VERY NICE. Very businesslike most of the other guest were on business trips. There isn't much diversity here among the guest. The rooms were great I didn't have a single problem with the room. Save your money on room service. $22 for 6 wings? Lol. There's a target and multiple food options within a block away. The staff was pretty friendly and helpful. Watch out for hidden fees when you check in and out.

I stayed at this hotel due to it was near Los Angeles area(outskirts). I didn't want to deal with the crazy downtown traffic. This hotel is amazingly BEAUTIFUL inside shocked me. Staff, room and restaurant were all wonderful. It's about 5 minutes away from Microsoft theater by car. The area is wonderful and prices for the room were reasonably good. I didn't see an transient the time my entire stay at the hotel. Late post...

At first glance, the exterior is grand and beautiful. I was there for an event which covered the valet. Upon pulling up to valet, I told the guy I was there for an event. As I came out of the car, I told him the event was covering the parking so it's free. He replied parking is not free. It's $20. Very rudely might I add. He had to ask someone else. The guy was more friendly and said yes if it's validated. I would give this hotel one star but the servers for the event were great. When I went to retrieve my car. I greeted the cashier. She ripped the ticket and handed me the stub. No smile. No greeting. What grievous customer service. The valet that brought my car around was the friendliest person at the valet. Need bette customer service in the front since it's the first impression. Will I ever consider going back? NO.

Hotel is a dump! My co workers and I agree that at one point this could have been a nice hotel, but it has not been well-maintained at all! The rooms are off and inconsistent. My room has old and refurbished furniture mixed with some "newer" pieces. The shower is small and awkward; water always ended up on the bathroom floor. On my first day, it wouldn't drain, which was gross, and flooded the bathroom floor, requiring me to clean up. The in-room heat only blows out cold air. There are four ikea-like hangers in the closet, along with another mismatched furniture piece. F The walls are very thin; I can hear every convo and TV within the neighboring room. The hotel restaurant......TERRIBLE! We ate lunch there in our first day and avoided having any other meals at the hotel as a result. Spoiled lettuce, salad drenched in generic and bland salad dressing, cold food, salty salmon, etc. And, it was not cheap either. The only saving grace, the courteous housekeeping and maintenance staff, and other staff members. We will NEVER stay at this hotel again and advise others not to either. They are overpriced and under-deliver.

The negative reviews seem to be from people with irritable bowl syndrome. This place isn't the Ritz and obviously several of their guest aren't celebrities but it's a chic looking spot with well priced clean and comfy rooms. It's situated within walking distance to several downtown spots. I've done two staycations here with my wife and friends. Advice to guests: Be nice to people and they'll be nice back. Also dress and act presentably and maybe next time you'll get a-list treatment like we always do...higher better situated rooms, nicer views, courteous service, and extra perks.

It's been a year, no one ever reached out to make it better. I see plenty of 1 and 2 star ratings, we'll know they "got it" when the name changes...... Less than 1

This review is about the L.A. Grand Hotel's cancellation policy. I was supposed to stay at the L.A. Grand for a business trip. Knowing that my work obligation could be cancelled, I booked a room cancellable "within 48 hours of arrival." Of course, my trip was cancelled at 4:00 two days before my arrival. I immediately called the hotel and was sent to reservations, where I left a message. I sent an email to the reservations email address as well, but that bounced back. When I called back at 5:00, I was told it wasn't possible that no one picked up the reservation line (I told them to check their voicemail) and that, regardless, I had not cancelled within 48 hours. Why? Because the hotel has an unwritten and unstated "policy" that cancellation must be by 3:00 p.m. 48 hours prior to arrival. What is even more frustrating is that the individual in reservations simply refused to give me contact information for a manager or someone who I could speak to about the policy. When I sent a detailed email to the L.A. Grand, I was told it was forwarded to the reservations manager, who has simply failed to write back. It is easy to simply state on a website, as many hotels do, if there is a specific time by which a cancellation must be made. Barring that, this hotel simply does not honor its own stated cancellation policy.

Was a nice stay, peaceful, service was hospitable. Wasn't GREAT, but not disappointed. There is only ONE microwave in the whole building for guest to use and it's located in this small closet sized room. There is a convenient shop in the lobby, bar was a clutch addition , drinks weren't bad. For the price of the stay could've gotten more bang for buck but it Def wasn't a hassle! Not too far from hollywood

I was a little skeptical as I arrived due to co workers having said that the reviews on here were terrible. I booked in advance ($203 for one night) so my room was non refundable, so I had no choice but to go or lose my money. I arrived and I must say that I was happy to see a clean and beautifully decorated lobby. The bellman was super friendly and told us about the hotel and amenities. The check in process was quick and the lady that checked me in was nice and informative. I mentioned the negative reviews on yelp and she assured me that the rooms are nice and clean. She did not lie because I checked every where I could and I did not find one bug ( specifically looked for bed bugs) or any dust. I always sanitize the toilet and knobs with Lysol or Clorox wipes no matter what, but the bathroom was clean and it had a shower and a bathtub!!!! I called for extra towels and we were provided with towels in less than five minutes. The check out process was also fast and smooth. My only complaints are one of the towels had a spot on it, there was no bar soap for hand washing, the shower head is up way to high, the water pressure is too low in the shower, valet parking is $20 if you are attending an event at the hotel, but $50 for guests for overnight parking (not cool!) and if you don't have a vehicle the walk to Staples Center is about 2 miles. Overall, I enjoyed my stay and I plan to stay again in the near future.

This hotel SCAM. I stay here for LA marathon about a month ago. rom was okay. But hotel staff very unfriendly and do not care for guest. The worst part of my experience was dealing with the valet parking staff. The woman working at the valet front desk very rude and unfriendly. The website not disclose parking info when I book. I spill water all over sheets and covers I call for extra pillows and sheets and they only brought blankets and one pillow! I pay lot of money for this hotel. Bad experience do not stay here.

I was really impressed with my stay at LA Grand Hotel! The actual hotel is absolutely beautiful and elegant. The front desk employees are really helpful and welcoming and I really appreciate it. The room was big and beautiful. Definitely would recommend for anyone who is coming to visit LA!

Was staying here for business and would not recommend. The service is horrible, front desk has horrible attitude and the rooms are not as advertised. I stay in a lot of hotels , and this place is one of the worst ones.

The hotel was fresh, inviting and clean. Nice little grocery store in the lobby. It was inconvenient not to have the restaurant operating during dinner hours however they did serve great food in the open lobby and service was good. I consider it a high security risk by not having the elevators programmed to activate off a room key card. Essentially anyone off the street could walk through the lobby and enter a hotel floor and sit waiting to victimize. There wasn't even a check point at the elevators to see if a guest was using them.

I stayed here about a couple of weeks ago and it was gorgeous! Definitely has a grandiose lobby and bar area! The staff was super nice, told me I got upgraded upon checking in. I was originally supposed to stay for one night only and when I decided to add a night they made it super easy! The room was super spacious and clean. The bathroom was also large and came with a tub and a walk in shower. I loved this establishment, truly

Nice hotel and rooms. Misleading description of room amenities such as free WiFi --- which does not exist. I would not have booked the hotel had they been upfront about that.
