On the Grid : The Labia Theatre

"Do the time warp and experience the relaxing and charismatic theatre on the corner of Orange Street. The best part about this iconic establishment is enjoying a movie like the Grand Budapest Hotel, with a paper bag of popcorn and glass of wine in hand. It’s perfect for date night or an outing with friends, everyone in Gardens loves The Labia and its formed part of our colourful community. A number of restaurants from Societi Bistro to Kauai have joined forces with the theatre by offering dinner specials to their customers!" - Yellow Door Collective

This place is special and set a part. The love and tender care that’s gone in here is exceptional. It feels like your soul feels alive and whole when you step into this space. Thank you. Your team and everyone has done so well. I’d love to do a worship event here wow imagine that space being filled with worship and praise to God.

A timeless Cape Town gem – a must-visit for film lovers The Labia Theatre remains one of Cape Town’s most treasured cultural landmarks. It has stood for decades as a beacon for the arts, consistently supporting independent film alongside more commercial releases — something incredibly rare and valuable in today’s cinema landscape. What makes The Labia truly special is its eclectic, old-school atmosphere. From the vintage décor to the intimate screening rooms, every visit feels like stepping into a piece of Cape Town’s artistic history. It’s a place where storytelling, community, and nostalgia come together beautifully. A unique and irreplaceable gem — long may it continue. Highly recommended for anyone who loves cinema in all its forms.

We had fun... The theatre got packed pretty quickly so it's safer to keep time. Loved the popcorn, sound quality etc... definitely worth it.

Such a nice and authentic old movie venue. A mix between new and old movies. Great outdoor space to enjoy a drink or a coffee either before or after. If you love movies, well then this is the place to go in Cape Town. No modern venue can compete with this place. 2025-07-10. As nice as always....

One of the coolest movie experiences I’ve had before. From the dining options to the nostalgic feeling of being here. Highly recommend watching a movie here and buying snacks. Love how they have different popcorn seasonings for their popcorn, and everything was priced great.

What a classy, yet bohemian, cinema experience. The lovely aesthetics of the theatres and cafe, with retro styling and lots of plants, make it feel cosy and nostalgic yet fresh. The staff are friendly and helpful. The camaraderie one feels with her fellow patrons laughing along at the movie is a dying affair. Thank you to The Labia for keeping 'going out to see a film' alive and affordable. Great food offerings as well. A must-do Cape Town experience.

Wanting a charming retro experience then you must go see a movie at the Labia. Staff are super, popcorn is fresh, no crowds and you can take your beer or wine purchased at the Labia into the cinema with you. Even the patrons are quirky. A must do.

First-time visit, and I loved the nostalgic charm of Cinema 2 — clean, cozy, and refreshingly old-school with just 50 seats. The venue has real character, and the seats were surprisingly comfy. However, the audio experience was a letdown. The sound was overly sharp, with almost no midrange or bass presence. Gun scenes in The Accountant 2 were painfully piercing rather than immersive. My ears were ringing long after the credits, and I noticed older patrons covering their ears during louder moments. It seems the sound system isn’t properly EQ’d or acoustically treated, which makes modern action films hard to enjoy. I’d definitely return for the atmosphere, but until the sound is rebalanced, I’d avoid anything too loud or intense.
