On the Grid : The Labia Theatre

"Do the time warp and experience the relaxing and charismatic theatre on the corner of Orange Street. The best part about this iconic establishment is enjoying a movie like the Grand Budapest Hotel, with a paper bag of popcorn and glass of wine in hand. It’s perfect for date night or an outing with friends, everyone in Gardens loves The Labia and its formed part of our colourful community. A number of restaurants from Societi Bistro to Kauai have joined forces with the theatre by offering dinner specials to their customers!" - Yellow Door Collective

This place is special and set a part. The love and tender care that’s gone in here is exceptional. It feels like your soul feels alive and whole when you step into this space. Thank you. Your team and everyone has done so well. I’d love to do a worship event here wow imagine that space being filled with worship and praise to God.

Such a great atmosphere and a different experience for the whole family to enjoy. It takes you back in time. The café is very overpriced, otherwise I would’ve rated 5 *

It's great. Only downside is once the movie starts the food stalls close. Love the vine though as it feels like everyone's watching it together versus in a large corporate theater. Great sound and everything. But I can't give it 5 starts as I can only get popcorn once and that's before it starts.

A timeless Cape Town gem – a must-visit for film lovers The Labia Theatre remains one of Cape Town’s most treasured cultural landmarks. It has stood for decades as a beacon for the arts, consistently supporting independent film alongside more commercial releases — something incredibly rare and valuable in today’s cinema landscape. What makes The Labia truly special is its eclectic, old-school atmosphere. From the vintage décor to the intimate screening rooms, every visit feels like stepping into a piece of Cape Town’s artistic history. It’s a place where storytelling, community, and nostalgia come together beautifully. A unique and irreplaceable gem — long may it continue. Highly recommended for anyone who loves cinema in all its forms.
