"Laguna Playhouse Just steps from the Pacific Ocean, theater lovers can find the Laguna Playhouse, a historic equity theater known for its year-round season of comedies, dramas, musicals, and more. Founded in 1920, it’s one of the oldest continuously operating theaters on the West Coast—and a magnet for stage and screen stars taking a break from the L.A. scene. Programming here ranges from stand-up comedy to family-friendly shows and even some performing arts, making the theater a gathering spot for the entire community."

Perfect, intimate playhouse where we were immersed in the drama of the presentation of Fences, a story about father and sons/husband and wife. Good production, great set, well run playhouse.

I thoroughly enjoyed the performance at Laguna Playhouse. The acting was absolutely incredible. Watching a small cast take on multiple roles so seamlessly was mind blowing. It was clever, engaging, and kept my mind fully involved from start to finish. I do wish there were more people in my age group attending. This kind of live theater is something more young adults should experience. They are definitely missing out. My only critique is that the seats do not have cupholders or a place to store drinks, which would be a helpful upgrade.

This place is perfect and intimate! The staff and audience are very respectful. I feel safe bringing my daughter. The shows are funny and engaging. Love this place very much!!!

We saw Rapunzel this Christmas, Sally Struthers was the PERFECT witch and JL Benet was a very charming Prince. Excellent venue, excellent show!

Google
Wonderful resource in Laguna. Not a bad seat in the house. Professionally produced plays, sometimes with actors you'll recognize. This is a go-to place for my wife and I.

Google
We attended The Remarkable Mr. Holmes performance last night and found the experience to be truly entertaining as the players are skilled singers and actors who have clearly rehearsed together for a long time! The end result is a beautiful choreography of amazing sound, movement, and an entertaining mystery.

We have attended the Christmas performances at the Laguna Playhouse for many many years now. Obviously a fun family tradition. Yesterday's manatee show was spectacular. I have three sons in there 20's now and they all agree it was the best one ever!!! The wicked sister's in Cinderella and Button made us laugh so hard. The fairy god mother's singing voice absolutely breathtaking. The costumes and set design were so beautiful. We were impressed by everyone in the cast!!! The performance was top notch. 👌

Google
A small, intimate venue with comfortable seats and excellent sight lines. The play, "Eleanor", was a one-person show, very well-written and superbly acted as well. A remarkable live-theater experience. Only complaint: the lobby area is cramped and inadequate.

Yelp
Love this little playhouse! I see the children's holiday show every year. It's magical! The actors are wonderful and we love the interactive nature of the panto. Letting kids (and adults) boo and cheer brings about fun and laughter in the crowd. Rapunzel was great! Can't wait until next year!

Yelp
My wife and I went to the Laguna Playhouse for the first time to see the Arthur Miller play, A View from the Bridge. It's not often that we get to see an Arthur Miller play so we were glad to see this performance so close to our home. The play is powerful. The acting was very good; staging too was excellent. Our seats had an excellent view of the stage and based on what I could tell all the seats are very good in this playhouse. (The seats are also very comfortable.) The staff at the playhouse are very friendly and the audience and ourselves enjoyed the production. I hope they bring more plays like this one to the playhouse. (My wife and I are more interested in drama.)

Yelp
Laguna Beach, Ca. I noticed that a lot of the reviews here are for the play and not the playhouse. Are the two inseparable? Well my experience included a well done act with no intermission by a single outstanding actor ( I'm Not a Comedian, I'm Lenny Bruce). I guess I was expecting more of an amateur performance with over acting, over emoting, and loud voice. Au contraire! This was an artful and skilled performance by Ronnie Marmot, who also gets writing credit. Captivating and illuminating. Oh yes the playhouse, no bad seats, cleat sight lines wherever you sit, small and intimate. Great sound, great lighting. Come early enough to find parking. Make sure you take a bottle of water in with you, 90 minutes is a good stretch. The seats are comfy but I was certainly ready to stand up by the shows conclusion.

Yelp
Nice theatre. Good seats. Parking can be a challenge but its Laguna Beach. Unfortunately not local performers but still great.

Yelp
I went to see a play at this establishment recently. They didn't waste a second to bash our new president during the opening of the play. So uncalled for and disrespectful. I wanted to walk out , but have more class than the fools that did this production. I will not ever see another play at this venue nor donate to them. I will also let my community know of their despicable behavior. They are clearly misguided and idiotic..

Yelp
Attended "Rapunzel" last evening. What a mess! A few of our members were not able to attend due to what their internet site was a sell-out. When the curtain went up more than 1/2 of the seats on the first floor were vacant and stayed that way the entire performance. One of the actors asked that the people in the balcony come down to fill the empty seats. Ridiculous. Who is running their online site. The the play starts.....not 5 minutes into the play there was some kind of technical difficulty, and the curtains were closed. Two of the actors came out and sang Christmas Carols for over a half hour! The play finally continued. The paltry scenery looked like something out of a High school play. Most times it was just actors standing in the middle of an empty stage. What a huge disappointment! The winners here were the members of our group that could not purchase tickets. The management of this theater needs to look at their employees.....and the work they're not doing.

Yelp
Yes!! We saw the very unique & entertaining Folk Trio singers. Awesome!! The playhouse has its own back parking +. Every seat is a great seat +. We were back row M and we loved it. Very intimate ambiance. Nice wide seats for comfort +. Great visibility + Great sound + We highly recommend this theatre!!

Yelp
Intimate setting. Great venue. You can park across the street after 7pm for free. The venue charges $15. People there are very friendly and professional.

Yelp
I love The Laguna Playhouse! Besides having great entertainment, it's close to the beach and to several great eating establishments. Our most recent trip was to see the musical, Once. If you love Irish music, this is the play to see. Great music and a sweet story. The main song is what I really love. It makes me smile.

Yelp
Came to see the youth theater out on a show. It was great! The kids did an amazing job with minimal props and costumes it was amazing. I was expecting more as were my kids since they are fans on the series. The play was great and the building is nice and intimate. All seats are good seats. This playhouse is situated near the beach a few blocks of shopping and restaurants nearby and the Pageant of the Masters and Sawdust Festival are also held nearby. If you are in the area and would like to catch a show, highly recommend! They have parking behind the building drive slow or you will miss it, or park across the street in the public parking area but dot. Forget to get a ticket from the meter. $4 we paid on a Friday evening.

Yelp
Holmes and Watson play was very well acted and written! It was about 1.5 hours and had some interesting twists.

Yelp
Last night.. Went to see this super fun campy, comedic High energy tons of singing and dancing, comedy panto. I wasn't sure how this was going to play out, as we arrived and there were a ton of children waiting to go in... I thought " oh my, a kids production!" Boy was I wrong... there was so much adult humor and sexual innuendos It's a Holiday Panto, lots of great audience participation , so funny.. the dancing was amazing we were literally dancing in our chairs to all the great 70s music! It is a feel good production My favorite character was the sheriff. This very funny English Actor, Andrew Lynford. His timing was spot on , his humor was that of the comedian Ricky Gervais... If you have the opportunity to go... just go .. you will laugh , you' will dance and you will feel good..

Yelp
We attended a matinee performance of Holmes and Watson. It's a very intriguing play with a lot of twists and turns. The actors were excellent they kept the play moving and it kept me guessing. So bravo to all of them. The theater itself is mid-size so there is not a bad seat in the house. We sat orchestra right Row C and had a perfect view of the stage. Since it's an older theater the seats are a bit tight and not a lot of leg room. It wasn't too tight for me since I am on the shorter side, but you are close to your seat neighbor. It was a little difficult hearing the announcements about turning off cell phones and another subject that I couldn't hear. Of course you have those people that didn't turn off or down their phones so that was an interruption. But what can you do some people don't have respect for live theater. The sound system for the actors was superb we clearly heard every word. There is a small stand selling soda, water, wine, cocktails and small snacks. Parking was pretty easy we parked across the street from the theater and walked over. Parking is $4.00 M-F, not sure about Sat-Sun. I'd attend another play here and would recommend it to people.

Yelp
I love going to the theatre and had the opportunity to enjoy a musical here, a nice community theatre. A small venue where you really can't have a bad seat. We ate at a nearby restaurant before the show, as you have many eatery choices in the town of Laguna Beach then enjoyed the theatre. What a great evening !

Yelp
Loved this playhouse just saw Camelot it was amazing very intimate place close to my home that's a plus for me

Yelp
Easy access, plentiful parking (usually) and a very comfortable size and ambience - yet still has that "special occasion" atmosphere. We've seen several high quality performances here- never disappointed. The current show is "Once", the Broadway production based on the marvelous story and movie of the same name. The cast/performers are brilliant; so talented it's hard to describe. Each one is terrific and unique. The standout (I'd say) is "the girl", performed by Grace Belt, who is, in a word, mesmerizing. Such talent is inspirational. Great playhouse, superb choice of shows and performances. Go!

Yelp
Had a great time! Perfect theater so all seats great. Will be attending again this weekend!

Yelp
The LAGUNA PLAYHOUSE- " THE ANGEL NEXTDOOR" The 4 of us LOVED this play! The cast was amazing, and the play was a laugh a minute. When we weren't laughing out loud, we were giggling at the antics. The maid was hilarious! We all agreed that this was the best show we have seen in a long time. Great cast! Don't miss it! Thanks for all of the laughs.

Yelp
I like that seats are leveled for everyone's viewing pleasure. The stage is wide with a decent sound system. The seats are cushioned. Parking can be a challenge depending on when you come. Prices are reasonable.

Martha M.

Yelp
The Realistic Joneses: worse play I have ever attended. One of the actresses was impossible to hear. As a consequence the entire theme of the play was lost. This is the 2nd play I've been to since moving from San Diego. We had season tickets to 3 theaters there and never saw such a pitiful performance. Hope the next play is better.

Yelp
Nice little venue for a show. Maybe they could offer more parking and places to eat around venue area.

Yelp
I really wanted to like Saturday Night Fever, but the singing was awful! The costumes, dancing and story line came in a close second. I feel terrible for giving such a bad review, but it was pretty dreadful. The playhouse is nice and I enjoyed the personable and small venue, but it the show was comparable to a high school musical at best.
google avatar

Ron B.

Yelp
Saw the phenomenal musical Saturday Night Fever here, first visit to the playhouse. Sat in the first-row center stage. Really intimate playhouse very close to the actors, dancers and singers. A truly unique live theater experience. I've been to most all the playhouses in southern California and never had such a cool up-close experience. Parking right across the street for $16 all day so you can enjoy dining pre or après theater dining. Sound system was great, lighting was on point and t was a blast. Take in a play or musical here, you'll love the intimate setting.

Yelp
This wonderful venue is staffed by very upbeat, helpful and polite people from the will call window to the ticket takers. The theater is clean and so we're bathrooms. They checked vaccine records and matched to identification. The show was good and funny. They have concessions area with drinks and snacks available. Many theaters have struggled to stay afloat during pandemic shut downs so really want to support this beautiful historic building.
google avatar

Malissa B.

Yelp
Great local venue to support and take in live theatre. I love Latina Beach, and this is just another fun place to frequent. Within walking distance to lots of amazing restaurants, too!

Thomas O.

Yelp
The Laguna Playhouse is a great theatre to see a show. Smaller venue that give you an up close and personal experience and they get in great shows and performers. A real find when you're enjoying Laguna Beach!!

Yelp
Laguna Playhouse was really nice....very clean and the staff members were very friendly. I would definitely go see another play there. :)

Yelp
Review of A Chorus Line, a musical (played from May 29 to June 12, 2022): The acting company was exceptional. All actors performed many demanding songs and a very challenging choreography. Beautiful voices, beautiful form. I don't know how they found the energy to perform twice a day. The show was a real treat for us. Thank you! Review of the venue: Beautiful theater. All seats allow excellent view of the stage. Clean restrooms. Gorgeous location, near the beach. Staff very friendly and courteous.

Misha R.

Yelp
What an amazing play! Murder on the links, fabulous cast, funny, engaging and very entertaining! Highly recommend seeing this play! Very excited about other events at this venue!!!

Yelp
Xanadu! Great show & wonderful cast! Singing, dancing, comedy, fun for all. And a Ballon Blast at the end!
google avatar

Yelp
So spent a lot of money to see a show. All the actors are wearing masks. I am fine with being safe but seriously. Its acting. I am local and done donating to this place.
google avatar

Yelp
Old school channing small theater where recertification seat has great viewing. We have going to performances there for 30+ years. The quality of performances has always been impressive. It has a very cool small town vibe.
google avatar

Yelp
Saturday night fever was like watching a badly casted high school play! SNF performance was mediocre!!! Choreography was just bad, casting was awful!! . Dancers timing totally was off. Costumes not at all disco Era related nor the dance moves! I was embarrassed for the cast! Male lead did a nice job and that is the reason I gave them 2 stars. The rest was lousy! Female leads voice was like nails scratching a chalkboard. Very disappointing. Waste of time and money!!! Too bad!!!

sandra d.

Yelp
My beef is with the lack of information for handicapped audience. These seats do not seem to be available online, they are sold to non handicapped patrons and there is often no answer when calling. There is no way to leave a message either. A poor website and poor service.
google avatar

Rose B.

Yelp
The Theater is nice and small. Sound system is awful. Went to see Saturday Night Fever last night ... mediocre at best. Acting was bad, staging was chaotic and timing not good. Many actors were either over acting or robotic. Main characters have no chemistry. Educational staff isn't doing their jobs and could use better directing.

Renee C.

Yelp
Saw the worst play / production I've ever seen. Around 10 people left total throughout the performance, and it was incredibly boring. Several people around us commented out loud on how bad it was afterwards. I would not have seen this play, even if I was paid to come to see it. It was that bad. I feel bad for the actors because it was really the fault of writer and director. Way overpriced.

Jackie S.

Yelp
The current production, "Staged" is unbelievably bad. We have had season tickets to the playhouse for over 10 years and this is the worst show we have ever seen there. We left at intermission, and if we had it to do over again, we would leave after 10 minutes. Awful.

Ivy E.

Yelp
Was a great first experience. I saw the Saturday night Fever show and I look forward to attending future shows!

R R.

Yelp
We saw the play, Staged, and it was quite a disappointment. It was not at all funny and we were quite bored. I seriously considered leaving at intermission, but since we were in the front row, it would have been too obvious. Now I know why the theater was not even half full.

christina m.

Yelp
This is a review on the show "Staged" with Rita Rudner. First of all, it was my mistake to think that it was a stand-up comedy show like we saw and loved from Las Vegas. We were looking forward to have a few good laughs like we all need after Covid. It was nothing like that. It was a play on a play with Rita Rudner. Nothing to laugh about. We were hoping for an intermission and were thrilled to make it to this point without a nap so we can leave. What a dissappointment! It was almost an embarrassment to see the most talented comedian in this boring show. Not a good choice of shows for this excellent theatre. No wonder the theatre was only 1/2 full on the second day. We wish we could have read a review and not driven for 40 minutes from Huntington Beach.

Rich A.

Yelp
I had the pleasure of seeing your current production of 'XANADU' and was blown away! The two leads Kristen Daniels and Dorian Quinn were outstanding. I was expecting to see a Junior college quality performance but shocked at the quality of the production. We saw 'A Chorus Line' last month and got more than we bargained for. It was one of the Best Productions of the show we've seen in years. So, was a bit skeptical about 'Xanadu' Kristen Daniels voice and acting were top notch and know she's ready for Broadway. Dorian Quinn was Excellent and shined through the performance. So we through the Laguna Playhouse was going to become a regular visit for us until we saw your upcoming 2022-2023 Season and I'm sorry to say we won't be making the trek from Long Beach to see any of the next season. What doesn't make sense to me is that more people identify with musical they know and love. Especially when a company is building an audience.
google avatar

Yelp
"You've got a Friend" needs some attention. I've been to many shows at the Playhouse over the years and was sorry to see this show there yesterday. The people in the audience were shouting out suggestions to help the band: the piano could not be heard, the drums were way too loud and set up for a rock show in a stadium rather than an intimate theater setting. The two vocalists were mediocre at best, at times off key. The playhouse did not do them any favors with the staging either. There was a sad video display that looked like something your aunt Edna put together of home video shots. I just think Laguna could've tried a bit harder with this one.....

Pattie M.

Yelp
We saw the production "Once" this evening and are blown away by the outstanding talent of this cast. The chemistry between the actors made this more than a good memory. The venue is ideal for an intimate story - fantastic show!

Cathy P.

Yelp
We went to the "You've got a Friend" production at the Laguna Playhouse and it was the absolute WORST! I'm a violinist and I'm telling you from the FIRST song, they were off key. Everything about it was cheezie - the video in the background... the presentation and the band members looked like they wanted to be anywhere but there. The worst part was we had invited friends to go with us and it wasn't cheap. SO EMBARASSING! I actually emailed the playhouse requesting a refund, they refused. I then asked to be removed from all their emails which I'm receiving daily since my ticket purchase. DON'T waste your money attending shows at this venue. They've REALLY gone down hill.

Yelp
It's been a while since I last watched a musical. I found a Groupon deal for the musical Oliver and so happy I did! No ragrats! ( : I was an orphan in the Oliver musical when I was a kid at my school. It brought back so much memories while watching the play! The theater itself is very clean. It was a lot smaller than I had expected though. I'm thinking of coming back for Aladdin! They're playing that next in December. Parking entrance is in the same building. It's hard to spot the entrance because of the cars parked on the street. So make sure you slow down when you pass the posters so you don't miss the parking lot entrance! I didn't know there was a parking lot, so I ended up parking near the apartments about .5 miles away from the theater.

Yelp
What an absolute TREASURE! We had such a great time seeing the musical, ShaBoom- Life Could Be A Dream! That was our first time at the Laguna Playhouse! We absolutely LOVED the Quaint Feel in such a Large Size Local Playhouse! Can't wait to go back again!

Yelp
I absolutely adore Laguna Beach for all its adorably quaint and artsy charm. So it comes to no surprise how excited I was to get an invite from my mother to attend a Christmas themed musical called "Plaid Tidings" at this quaint little theater. While the prospect of parking in Laguna Beach can normally be cause for a mild anxiety attack, the Laguna Playhouse has its own lot which was very well situated just behind the theater for the standard $10. We saw people parking across the street (for much less, I'm sure) but I was traveling with my aging grandmother and she appreciated not having to hike. Tickets were reasonably priced and there was a quaint lobby bar upon entering the building offering wine, beer, spirits and nibbly bits (i.e. bags of chips). A steward directed us to the spiral staircase (*NOTE* there is no elevator) that would lead us to our balcony seats and we enjoyed them tremendously - the acoustics in the building are very good! Due to the fact that our seats were front row of the balcony section, there was quite the walk way gap (18 inches or so?) between our seats and the edge of the balcony. This gap was welcomed when people needed to pass by to get to their seats but otherwise, it caused me and my height-challenged grandmother to have to sort of lean forward in our seats in order to get a better view. For this reason, I would probably choose to sit in the lower level of the theater next time. I really enjoyed the small theater feel and would definitely recommend it!

Lorraine R.

Yelp
Saturday Night Fever was the worst show I've seen in 10 years. I was very disappointed. Singers were off key, timing and dancing was mediocre. Definitely not worth the money. Half the audience left at intermission. I've seen high school productions that were better. I love the BeeGees music, and this was a waste of time.

Yelp
This place is the best!! I brought 52 people last night to hear Hershey Felder as Irving Berlin, and wow! This show was fabulous, and we were treated like royalty by the staff of the Playhouse. Dee Dee Irwin is their top notch Marketing Director, she is an angel and has always made sure my group was taken care of. We LOVE you guys, and plan on coming down to see Foot Loose. Many patrons don't realize the great shows during the summer that coincide with the picnic dinner music on the fair grounds. Picnic dinner next door, and 7:30 PM show at the Playhouse!! Thank you again Dee Dee for making me look so good to my OC Art, Theater & Culture group!
