The Most Exciting Hotel Openings of Fall 2025 | Condé Nast Traveler

"Set on 36 acres with 3,400 feet of private shoreline on Lake Winnisquam in New Hampshire’s Lakes Region, The Lake Estate aims to recast the state’s tourism narrative with grand-scale yet intimate lake-house living. The property reads like an over-the-top friend’s summer home, complete with a wine cellar, bourbon room, infinity pool, theater, and pickleball courts, but it really elevates the offering with a restaurant led by James Beard nominee and Top Chef alum Chris Viaud and a 5,000-square-foot spa positioned to become one of the state’s best." - Todd Plummer

Beautiful development. Architectural marvel. Lunch was pedestrian. $5 bread was white bread lightly grilled with Evoo with no herbs…oily bread. Seafood chowder held my spoon upright. Heavy gravy like. Entree was okay. I’m sure they will find the Chef to match their image. I wasn’t impressed with the chefs menus in Milford either.

We live across the lake and 8 of us wanted to check out the 5 star experience. We went for drinks and snack. Originally we were hoping to sit outside on what looks to be comfy couches but it was too chilly so we opted for inside the bar. The tables in the bar area are really not set up for larger groups so they put 3 round tables together in the circular couch area, a little awkward but comfy. The bar area was on the rustic side but nice with full views of the lake. The wind did come in when the doors were open so sweater on then off again when the doors were closed. Our waitress was nice we did ask her a few questions that she did not have answers to or kind of made up. Three of us ordered the chicken sandwich which the menu said it was served on foccia bread it was served on cibbatta, we all thought although tasty the cut or quality of the chicken was not good. Two got the seafood chowder and said it was the best they ever had. 2 had the smash burger and thought it was good. All but me thought the fries were excellent I thought they were a bit over done. We are always looking for local places to go but Think I'll wait a bit before trying again or recommending to family and friends especially at this price point.

We had my daughters wedding at the Lake estate. We stayed 4 nights and It was flawless. From The rehearsal dinner, to a welcome reception to individual meals at the restaurant (including brunch) and especially the wedding meals, everything was excellent. The rooms were beautiful, comfortable with incredible views. I must say that the staff were so friendly and helpful. Many of our guests commented on how happy the workers there were to be there and very helpful. The wedding itself was perfectly planned and executed by Guen and her team (Grace). They were prepared for everything. In fact a bridesmaid split her dress down the back just before the ceremony and Grace raced and sewed the dress in literally 10 minutes (saved the day). The entire resort was beautiful, especially the individual gathering spots that lead from the front desk to the functional rooms. The lake estate also had plenty of space for all of our meeting requirements. The reception room was spectacular. I cannot say enough about what a great stay we had and Kudos to the Lake estate team. My daughter and now son-in law had the best night of their lives!!!!

My husband and I stayed for a night to celebrate our anniversary. We live in southern NH and were excited to try a new luxury experience— there aren’t many here! The property is stunning. We took a walk along the trails at sunset, just gorgeous. The interiors are so well-appointed. Both the hotel and staff reminded me of Amangani. The level of service they are striving to provide is unmatched in this area, and generally hard to find anywhere these days. Some of the staff is still training since they just opened, but everyone was extremely accommodating and seemed really happy to be there. All the guests were having a ball too. Really great atmosphere. Tiny drawbacks- the mattress was a bit soft for my taste; and we ordered dinner to the room but wish we’d just gone down to the restaurant because the food is too nice for takeout containers. As others said, the seafood chowder was incredible. Looking forward to coming back. We were envious of the couple getting married that day, it truly looked like the absolute perfect place to host a wedding!

We were excited to visit in hopes of recommending the property to family and visiting friends. Beautifully designed and appointed, with one important caveat. While they welcome guests of all ages, the property is intended for adults. We stopped in for lunch in the lounge with our tween. The menu is short and a bit eclectic, so we asked if there was a youth menu. We were met with a quick no. We asked if the kitchen would mind making a grilled cheese to go with the soup and we were also told no. The implication was clear that accommodations for kids is not an option. We completely respect that this is their unique business plan, but it’s a little shocking when you have to learn this in person. I only hope to give other parents a heads up that there will be no alternatives. It wasn’t until I took a deep dive into the FAQ portion of the website that I finally discovered their desire to be child free. We will recommend to our adult only friends, and will warn off families.

Just back from a 2 night getaway at The Lake Estate. The building, grounds, room, and especially the staff (front desk, bartenders, servers and Barbara the concierge) were exceptional and all helped to make our stay very memorable. For food on the first night we ate a late lunch in the bar and had the smash burger and the chicken sandwich. The burger was very good (although as one reviewer has mentioned not really sure it was a smash burger). The chicken sandwich was also very good although the consistency was not what we expected at first - but then we realized it was a chicken thigh as opposed to a breast and had no issues finishing it off. On night two we ate dinner in the dining room and had a memorable meal - the salmon was excellent and short rib which was a special for the night was also very good. The breakfast offered was a buffet which we skipped - hopefully in the future they will offer an a la carte breakfast menu that we can try. In all, although they have only been open since the end of August, I think this property is great and will only get better and I look forward to revisiting The Lake Estate soon!

We drove over an hour for this special, scenic birthday lunch. The property is spectacular and the restaurant is beautiful but it was very quiet and so there wasn't much atmosphere. In the same vein, for being so quiet, there were only 3 place mats at our table for 4 and no silverware. We had to grab some from a nearby table. Two of our menus had a corn bisque which I ordered but it turned out those were old menus so that wasn't available. My husband ordered a smash burger with tomato jam on the side. It wasn't a smash burger, rather a well done regular burger (about an inch thick) and the tomato jam was not served on the side. Had he known it wasn't actually a smash burger, he would have asked for a different temperature. My dad ordered the seafood chowder which he thoroughly enjoyed. My stepmom and I ordered the root veg bisque which arrived cold. They returned with new bowls when the other half of the table was almost done eating. It was a lovely texture but I wish more of the ingredients had been listed because there was quite a lot of cinnamon which I don't care for and I would have ordered something else. ||I noted in the reservation that we were there for a birthday but there was no mention of that until we ordered mimosas for my parents and we mentioned when they arrived that they were birthday mimosas. It would have been nice to welcome us with a birthday greeting. All in all it was an underwhelming experience and because it was so quiet, there really wasn't any reason for all of the service fails. I will say our server was very pleasant, if not very attentive to details.

We went for lunch on Saturday - our first visit. The resort is beautiful (5 stars). We pulled up to the front and nobody came out to greet us...no big deal but surprising for a resort that bills itself as 5 star. Upon entering, the foyer centerpiece is spectacular! We walked to the bar and had a brief conversation with the concierge - she was great and enthusiastic about the property. The bar was not busy but the host had only 1 menu. We decided to sit at the bar and were able to order our drinks quickly...both drinks were well made. I needed to wave down the bartender to order. At this point, knowing we're going to eat, we should have been given plates and utensils - no biggie but I noticed. Seafood chowder was very good however, my wife's salad didn't have enough dressing and she had to ask for more. We ordered a burger to split (we told our bartender we would be splitting it) and when it arrived we were given a knife to cut it ourselves instead of the kitchen cutting and plating it for two. My wife felt the fries were dry and over peppered. Overall, we will come back but might wait a bit until the kinks are worked out. This property has all the makings to be excellent. This review was purposely picky because we want you to succeed but being 5 star means paying attention to every detail.

Yelp
Not really family friendly because there's no kids menu for my little sister to eat off of at the restaurant. We waited about 3 hours for our food to arrive for it to just be 'meh'. Understaffed at the restaurant totally understaffed

Yelp
We had a superb lunch during a non busy time to view the establishment. Great lunch food and a glass of wine, and we splurged with dessert. The wait staff was top notched, efficient and very personable. We even got a tour by Ed Rocco of the resort. It has been beautifully architected and interior designed to be a New Hampshire luxury experience. It's wonderful to have this resource in the area which has already booked 42 weddings.

Awesome property and the drinks were amazing. Will be back for dinner in the near future.

Yelp
Held our Daughters wedding here on Oct 4 2025. The event was flawless due to the great staff at the resort. The preplanning, The food for the wedding, rehearsal dinner as well as other meals was excellent. We stayed for 4 days and it was wonderful. The rooms were beautiful with incredible New England views of Lake Winnisquam. The staff was very professional yet very friendly. Many of our friends even commented on the helpfulness and kindness of the staff. Can say enough about Guen and Grace or wedding planners that managed everything and allowed our family to enjoy the day and not worry about details. You won't be disappointed.
