A Month on the Road With My Newborn

"On the way back to Burford, if Henry was sleeping, we would stop at the Lamb Inn for mugs of mulled wine, served boiling hot with quartered orange slices, open packets of rosemary crisps from the bar and talk about nothing in particular."

Great location. The young front of house personnel, led by the excellent manager, Amy, were charming, friendly and very helpful upon our check in. The room we stayed in was smaller, but that would be expected of a 400 year old building that had undergone a top notch renovation. The outdoor gardens were lush and spacious. The pub and the adjoining dining room seemed to attract a nice mix of locals and travelers. We had heard about the young 29 year old chef and co-owner of The Lamb Inn. He did not disappoint. We had a sophisticated dinner and it turned out to be the best meal of our trip. We hope to come back. staff. Excellent dining.

Well for a pub its tge most comfortable I've stayed in. Lively specious room with character. Nice touches such as Molton brown in the bathroom. Fluffy towels. Stand alone deep bath and a shower. The service is excellent. Lovely breakfast. Cant comment on dinner as we dudnt eat here but if it's as nice as everything else I'm sure it's good.

We were passing Burford and I suggested we pop into one of my old favourite pubs for a drink, I used to use this pub a lot from about 20 years ago until 5 years ago when I changed jobs. We were peckish but as a full evening meal was planned we only wanted something light. Well something light was what we got! The attached photos show the 4.5 pieces of scampi that we were served for £11:50 and the small portion of squid for £12:00. I queried the small portions but especially the scampi with the barman/manager and was told that these are the designated portion sizes from Fuller’s Brewery (the owners) head office. I said I honestly thought the chef had run out of scampi and just sent out what he had left! So if you decide to have Scampi (which was ok) here just be prepared that you are going to pay £2:50 per piece, which I think even in highly priced ‘gastro’ pubs is outrageous. We sat in the garden which whilst a lovely walled setting with comfortable high quality furniture was sadly let down by being covered in weeds in the flower beds. This gem of a pub could really do a lot better. I very much doubt we will visit again.

Amazing hotel if you like original style and cosy. Great personal service. Zoe helped us with everything and she was amazing, professional, super helpful with smile on her face. The rest of the team were also great.

While the Inn is very charming, the guest rooms lack comfort. There is no air conditioning at the Lamb Inn, and the sun beats down on this wooden structure all day in the summer, so I found myself sweltering in my tiny room at the top. The room was very small and I ended up just opening my suitcase on the floor since there was no room to unpack. I thought that there was no safe, but then the last day, I discovered it was in the back of the closet, attached to the floor. To use it, I would have had to lay down on the floor to see the access keys and open it. The closet had items supplied by the hotel stored in a random manner. We had one dinner while we were there and the servings were generous. Breakfast was unremarkable. There was a nice garden in the back of the Inn with tables which was a pleasant place to sit once it started to cool off in the evening.

We have just returned from a lovely couple of days staying at The Lamb. |Cannot fault it, the room was clean, cosy and comfortable. everything we needed. The food was lovely, tasty and of good quality.|Staff were friendly (Toby went out of his way to lend me his umbrella) and informative. |The building itself is absolutely charming with oodles of character. we will defiantly return. The c1402 Lamb Inn is a wonderful place to drop into whilst in Burford. The lunch time menu was excellent especially the range of freshly made sandwiches. To top off our visit our servers Jake and Lexi were friendly and vey intentive.

We had a 2 night stay (me and the dog). I found the room excellent standards, Very comfy large bed with feather or duck down duvet and pillows. Very clean. Amazing rainfall shower with great pressure and very hot. However no fridge (luckily only 2 nights as I was with my dog and feed her raw but I'm more than sure if asked they would accommodate) I didn't realise breakfast was included... bonus! It was 'continental' (cereals, toast, croissants) I don't remember what else as the croissants were amazing with the available marmalade (there were also jams and honey) err I also had the full English (was great except I'm a sucker for beans and they weren't there) I will state that it is 5 star in my opinion even though I didn't eat the steak dinner due to it being over salty but as a hospitality host I know chefs do love the salt, I offered to pay but they refused outright which is amazing to see! Great outdoor space and of course dog friendly throughout 🐾 Close proximity to Didly Squat and the Wildlife Park. Great walking area too in a quaint little village. Will definitely be returning!!!

Yelp
I lived in England for several years and on several occasions, I stayed at this hotel and ate in the restaurant. This is a brilliant place and is like stepping back into time.  It has terrific ambiance, and the food is great. It is almost like coming inside a Harry Potter film set.  The place is extraordinarily beautiful and if you are in Oxfordshire I highly recommend a visit. One gets a well-heeled clientele here.

Yelp
How many things in life really live up to your romanticized, idealized view of them in your head? Not many...ever. The Lamb Inn in Burford was perfect for my weekend in the Cotswolds. The staff was so friendly and helpful, leaving keys for us when we returned late and calling taxis for us throughout the weekend. I loved that the history and charm of the inn has been preserved, from the cozy common rooms with fires going at tea time to the crooked rickety stairs, but there have been modern updates made to the bathrooms (glass walk in showers) with luxury Molton Brown amenities and modern conveniences like complimentary wifi. If you are lucky to be there on a sunny day, lunch or tea outdoors in the gardens behind the inn is just the most divine thing you can imagine. If only I could have stayed longer!

Yelp
After eating our meal, I commented that was best meal we had since Gidleigh Park, a 2 Michelin start restaurant. Didn't realize the Lamb Inn was a 1 star Michelin restaurant. I had the guinea fowl )a special), that came with an amazing potato/cabbagy-like side and rosti. My wife was very impressed with her lamb shank. And gotta have the sticky toffee pudding. Really friendly and chatty waiter from Portugal who put up with us moving around the garden to follow the evening sun. And what a great garden they have. Inside feels like a well appointed pub, but with a great wine list.

Yelp
Beautiful inn with friendly staff and great atmosphere and service. The food is fine, if somewhat unremarkable, and you're paying London prices, but you're here for the charm. Gem.

Yelp
As previously stated, this place has amazing atmosphere; really a classy english pub. The food was some of the better food I had while in the UK. The wine list was pretty expansive for a pub, and of course, they had plenty of good beers to choose from. They had lots of nice snug areas to sit and have dinner with friends, or hang out on your own with a pint and a book. Also, I'd highly recommend staying in this area if you need to get away; simply beautiful countryside.

Yelp
Exactly how I imagined an English country inn and pub. Got the goat cheese panna cotta, fish and chips, and tea. Everything was delicious. The atmosphere was great and the inn looks like it would be a good place to stay. If it's nice out, sit in the garden.

Yelp
Great pub with fantastic atmosphere. If your looking for the Hollywood idea of what an English pub should be like, then you have it all here. History, roaring fires, and great beer.
