Yelp
In short, The Landing is a good property that could be great, but with so many things in a state of disrepair, it's hard to recommend the property. I know things are tough during COVID-19 and I'm sure they're operating at reduced staffing levels, but this is not an inexpensive resort and I feel the quality bar should be a lot higher.
We recently stayed in the 1BR Lakefront Suite, so aside from common area issues, everything I'm describing could only apply to this unit.
Pros
- Shuttle is super convenient - it's included as part of the resort fee, so take advantage of it
- Large and spacious unit with plenty of seating throughout
- Living/dining areas have large windows facing the lake
- Patio has several chairs and tables, as well as a propane fire pit - great for those chilly nights
- Separate 1/2 bath accessible from living/dining area
- Main bathroom has heated floors, towel warmer, large tub
- Bedroom has a very large walk-in closet and motorized blackout shades
Cons
- One Tesla destination charger (10kW) but it was broken and would only charge at 2kW (~9-10 miles per hour on my S75)
- $40/night resort fee - it covers the shuttle, spa and pool access, and beach access, though unlike many other luxury resorts that charge a resort fee, there were no beverages or snacks included, which makes it pretty steep unless you make judicious use of the shuttle (the beach was closed 2 of 3 days due to smoke and gusty winds)
- Don't be fooled by the exclusive beach access - many people have access to this beach and on our first day, it was totally crowded
- Motorized blackout shades in the living/dining areas aren't configured correctly - one set of shades doesn't operate at all. We were told to climb through the main living room window to access the patio (LOL!). I was told maintenance would come by to fix it - they never did.
- Huge kitchen/bar area but without any glassware; tiny refrigerator and no microwave
- While the patio faces the lake, there's a pretty popular beach and parking for the beach between, so you don't really have a good view of the lake. The patio is also pretty open so tons of people walking by and very little privacy
- During our stay, water started leaking from the ceiling in the bathroom, dripping dirty, brown water all over the bath tub, floor, and shower - really gross! Needless to say, we didn't use the tub from that point on. We called the front desk and again they said maintenance would come by, but nobody ever did. Thankfully, when we returned from dinner, the leaking had stopped, unfortunately, it started back up conveniently around 1:40am on our last night so we didn't really get great sleep.
- The bedroom is close to a high traffic area so starting around 7am you can hear the door slamming quite frequently
By the end of our stay, all of the issues just became pretty comical so it definitely made for a very memorable stay. In terms of value for money, almost certainly you'll find much higher quality rooms, facilities, and service at Edgewood for roughly the same price. In the spirit of transparency, the resort did offer to waive the resort fees (but not the $10/night parking fee) and a couple $40-ish breakfasts at Jimmy's - about $160, 10% of what it cost to stay there for two nights.
