"The Art Series Hotel Group has seven chic properties across the continent, each inspired by a namesake Australian artist. Its latest resides in Parkville, an inner suburb just north of the city center, and honors the renowned figurative expressionist painter David Larwill with original pieces in the lobby and playful prints in each of the 96 colorful rooms. Fittingly for a hotel that’s located next door to a hospital, there’s a focus on wellness: Guests take complimentary exercise classes at the on-site gym, rent retro-style Dutch bikes for exploring the neighborhood, and tune in to the designated yoga channel (in-room mats are provided). The 100-seat restaurant, Smith & Singleton, offers international flavors in a number of vegan and gluten- and dairy-free plates, including an ancient grains salad loaded with pearl barley, quinoa, and moghrabieh. Have kids? Book a free Bugaboo Bee stroller in advance and head to the sprawling playground that’s minutes from the hotel."

The Larwill Studio, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia - Hotel Review | Condé Nast Traveler

"How did it strike you on arrival? This youthful addition to the Art Series stable takes its cues from "anti-intellectual expressionist" David Larwill, who worshipped bright colors and brighter lights. Its parkside city-fringe location, comfy rooms, and personable staff make for a charming stay. Nice. What’s the crowd like? Touring musicians (who appreciate its artsy ethos and affordable rooms); cycling fans (who love the bike rentals). How was check in? Although the huge, high-ceilinged lobby suggests a large hotel, there are relatively few rooms here. That makes check-in and check-out quick and painless. The good stuff: Tell us about your room. It's worth paying a little extra for one of the guest rooms (known here as "workspaces") with a view over Royal Park—the serenity is almost palpable. Although the Larwill's workspaces are small by Melbourne standards (95 square feet), they don't feel squishy, thanks to an abundance of natural light and well-designed bathrooms (no tubs). How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Anything of note? Workspaces are stocked with local magazines, art books, and yoga mats. The Wi-Fi is strong and free. And although there is no room service, you can order Ben & Jerry's from the front desk. Room service and food: Worth it? The hotel's cafe and restaurant Smith + Singleton does big breakfasts, plus fresh and satisfying lunches and dinners. There are few other options within walking distance—this is not an ideal location for foodies. Anything stand out about other services and features? Whatever stuck with you. Royal Park is rarely busy and is large enough for a good run or cycle. Bikes and eco-friendly cars are available to rent for reasonable fees. Bottom line: worth it, and why? Although it's just a 10-minute tram or taxi ride from downtown, The Larwill Studio offers peace, quiet, and wide open space, with plenty of cool artistic touches to sweeten the deal." - Dan F. Art Series - The Larwill Studio (Melbourne, Victoria) 1 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"The North Melbourne suburb of Parkville is the venue for The Larwill Studio, a member of Australia’s Art Series boutique hotels — this one dedicated to the work of the Victoria-born painter David Larwill. As is the norm in the Art Series hotels, the artist’s work adorns both the guest rooms and the public spaces, and the interior design takes its cues from his work as well, brightening its monochrome backgrounds with motifs, forms, and colors from Mr. Larwill’s work. The hotel offers art tours and its own art library, as well as The Farmacy, an all-day farm-to-table restaurant and bar." - Tablet Hotels

I had back to back appointments with RMH and RCH , booking with Larwill was the best decision because of its ideal location. They share parking with RCH which made it so much more convenient. I got around easily to all my appointments without the stress of parking. I stayed for 2 nights and I got king bed with the best view of city. Facilities are well maintained, clean rooms with all basic amenities and good restaurants nearby, I couldn't have been happier. Would highly recommend them.

Myself, my partner, and my family have stayed here for over 100 nights. Here is my honest review! ✨ You will NOT find better staff! The reception staff and rest of the team are the best of the best. They are incredibly accommodating, patient, kind, and thoughtful, the best of any hotel (or really any customer service) I’ve ever experienced! Every experience with them was pleasant and friendly. 💛 Parkview is absolutely worth the extra dollars. The view is spectacular, although, the rooms do heat up considerably more due to the sunlight and being higher up. The aircon is an absolute blessing with this, although it does dry the room out quite quickly. Without the Parkview, unfortunately you often get a room facing a brick wall. Love the designs of the rooms! The artworks, art books, and information about David Larwill is fantastic. The rooms also come with a yoga mat and wellness guides, including Larwill’s own yoga channel. Shower heads are adjustable and can be brought down for accessibility. Unfortunately, you do need someone who can stand to bring it down for you. As it’s connecting to the Royal Children’s Hospital, you have access to all of the restaurants, the supermarket, pharmacy, and florist on the ground level. They close when the hospital closes. My partner has continually gone to the hotel’s restaurant, the Farmacy, for breakfast. He loves the food and their juices, and the staff are always lovely to be around too! The hotel is right outside the 58 and 59 tram stop, taking you easily to and from the city in a few minutes. There were a few instances where maintenance was needed in various rooms. The main problems were the lights flickering (the lights have a dimmer function and this often caused problems) and the towel racks falling off the wall in the bathroom, even with nothing on them. Lights were fixed within the day but the towel racks did keep falling off even after getting fixed. Maintenance team was always lovely and respectful! Housekeeping was always happy to give extra towels, fix bedding, and provide more tea, coffee, and milk. Often very considerate and respectful. They recently installed new carpet in the floor hallways, and it makes such a difference. It looks so much nicer and is much easier to push luggage on wheels and move in a wheelchair. The entire hotel is accessible via elevators from the main entrance (including automatic front doors) and the car park. If you’re going to stay at a hotel in the city, make sure it’s this one. They do not disappoint, and I think I can say that after staying here for over 100 nights. Thank you to the Larwill team for such a consistent positive experience, your empathy, and amazing service. 💛

Google
Very clean. Tidy. Room with a park view was disappointing - you only see the roof top and some grass ahead! Breakfast option is limited but tasty and good service in the cafe downstairs. Parking is $28 extra per day. The parking process is clunky. Their process for the issue of the parking exit permit card needs to be improved swiftly to ensure better customer service! This was a downside of the stay. Tram across the road. Bring your Miki card because the petrol station across the road doesn’t have any to sell despite being told by reception staff there was. Otherwise a comfortable stay and recommended.

Google
Clean, neat, fun and fresh hotel. Comfy beds and quite rooms. Staff were friendly. Although disappointed the hotel bar/restaurant wasn't open for drinks or quick snacks or dining on a weekend, only breakfast available 7am -11am, which we thought was quite odd. And we were only handed a list of local pubs, after I asked about food/drinks, or one suggestion was to go to the local food court (ummm no thank you). Most suggested fooderies were minimum 400-500 metres walk away and then some, and the 2 we visited that were closest were closed. Not a great way to enjoy our stay or spend time between a wedding ceremony and the late arvo reception, which is why we booked The Larwill as in a convenient location to wedding and had a bar/ restaurant to by our time between. Breakfast was very tasty generous serving size. However, coffee in cafe needs to be addressed, as too milky and bland, sorry tough coffee critic here, I like coffee in my coffee so to speak. Although a few tweaks could be made, the overall stay was pleasant and beds comfortable.

Google
I was genuinely impressed by my stay at the Larwill Studio. It exceeded expectations. The staff were incredibly friendly and available around the clock, a level of service you don’t often find these days. The room was clean, comfortable, and well-designed, with beautiful artwork that added a unique and welcoming touch. It was also spotlessly clean, far above the standard I’ve experienced at other places in the area. Another major plus, the tram stop is right out the front, making it super convenient for getting around Melbourne. Honestly, this is the only place I’ll stay in this area from now on. Highly recommend!

Google
Faultless accommodation with outstanding service. We have just concluded a 4 night stay at the Larwill Studio, our second visit this year. Unfortunately our daughter became ill while we were here, vomiting at about 3am all over the bed. The concierge allocated us a spare room when I asked for some fresh sheets so I could remake the bed. She didn't want us to try to sleep in a smelly room. Nothing was too much trouble and they cleaned out initial room beautifully so we could return. The beds are sumptuously soft and the view over the parklands is definitely worth the small difference in price. The hospital has numerous eateries and a supermarket. These do get closed off from the hotel when the hospital closes to visitors at 8pm but it's handy when you can access it. Highly recommend this hotel.

We had everything we needed. The beds were comfortable, bathroom was clean. The foye was beautiful. Hotel is adjusted to Melbourne Children' s Hospital, so it is convenient if you need to take your child to the hospital. We rented a car and paid 28 per night to park at the hotel. Did not go to the cafe, but there is one just at the hotel. The hotel is a good value for money.

Google
This is a great location. Close to trams with easy access to the city and Zoo. Great if you are staying to be near a loved one in hospital. Lots of space in the rooms. Great views of the city and park. Staff are welcoming and accor members can boost their points.

Yelp
My family recently stayed at Larwill - Melbourne for 11 nights. I especially want to call our hotel staff, Marge for her superb service to ensure our stay was comfortable and lovely. One particular incident really highlights Marge's above and beyond service attitude. We were looking for a scale to weigh the luggage before we got on the airplane. We found the hotel does not have a scale to weigh the luggage. Marge immediately said she would bring one from her house for us to borrow. WOW! She is just excellent. We definitely will return to this hotel at Melbourne in the future because of Marge

Yelp
If I was an Australian Eloise I'd probably live in an Art Series hotel. They excel at being sophisticated, comfortable and stylish without seeming to try too hard. And, while it may sound contrived, walking into a room at any of their venues feels like you're home not just another sterile hotel room. Their newest hotel, The Larwill Studio, is conveniently located in Parkville, just north of the CBD. Admittedly, I was concerned it was too far from the city but the fact is, it's not. Think of it as discovering a new up and coming area of Melbourne before the rest of the cool kids do. It's about a $13 cab from the city and if you're a tram pro there's a tram stop just out of the front. It may not be the most convenient for a Chapel St shopping marathon but if you're more inclined to stroll the streets of Carlton, Fitzroy and North Melbourne here's just the spot for you. It's equally important to note it is in the same complex as the new Royal Children's Hospital. This means it's also offering a beautiful and light-hearted space for families of patients. But back to the hotel. Like all Art Series (AS) it's focused on the art of one Australian artist. This one, David Larwill. His pieces accent the walls and I'm sure it is no accident his child-like drawings are a nod to the near-by Children's hospital. The fun and cheek of his artwork carry through from the lobby to each room. While the location and space may be a new adventure for the AS Group, they've not lost anything in translation. I stayed in one of the rooms overlooking what will, in time, be a park space with views to the CBD. Each room has playful additions like a yoga mat in your cupboard to pair with the yoga class on an iPad from reception, pillowcases with David Larwill sayings like "Put your heart in it", Frankie magazine, and a peg-board with inspirational cards - all making the Larwill a lighter and fresher feeling stay compared to the rest of the Art Series family. For those who know the Art Series way you still have your EVO toiletries, T2 tea, the most heavenly beds you may ever gently sink into and drift to a deep sleep. If that's not sweet enough - there's also free WiFi. PRO TIP: Hire one of their orange push bikes and cycle to Parkville Store or the cafe's of North Melbourne for your morning coffee.

Yelp
My husband and I truly enjoyed our stay at The Larwill. Since we're both not familiar with Melbourne, we were concerned at first that the location might be a bit out of the way. But luckily, there are 2 trams that run outside the hotel which can easily take you to town. (We mostly depended on tram 59, which after 3 or so stops leaves you at Queen Victoria's Market. 1-2 stops later you're already in town!) Taking UberX's to and from CBD were also pretty affordable, at about $12-15. Also, your eyes are not deceiving you - the hotel is located right next to the Royal Children's Hospital; in fact, they appear physically connected to each other! Our room had this clean, sterile (in a good way) look to it, accented with really cool, colourful art. I loved the EVO toiletries, as they treated my hair well! The staff was very accommodating, answering all of our tourist-y questions. The free wifi treated us well; in fact, we still had access to it for a few hours after we checked out. This allowed us to chill for a few hours in the comfortable couches in the lobby before we left for the airport in the late afternoon. For the tl;dr crowd - well priced, contemporary hotel near Parkville and North Melbourne neighbourhoods, easy to get to town via tram and 15-20 minutes walking distance to cool cafes and brunch spots in the surrounding neighbourhoods!

Yelp
I've had a truly lovely stay for the week. The views of the city and the park are wonderful. Location is convenient to the trams (a few stops from the free tram zone), the hospital, etc. I've had meals in both the restaurant and the subway/coffee stop in the lobby. The attached children's hospital has a McDonalds and an asian restaurant, as well as a convenience store that hasn't ever been open when I was hoping to stop in (ah well...). The room is remarkably quiet. First hotel room in years where I haven't had to use white noise. Bed is comfortable, and there is a mini fridge and a microwave, as well as a water boiler for tea. It's pretty close to an efficiency flat. Cleanliness is above average, quirkiness just right. I would highly recommend.

Yelp
Nice city fringe location next to the children's hospital. The hotel has loads of nice city and park views. Really comfortably appointed rooms with great art, furniture and nicities such as good coffee machines. The hotel has a Smart car and bicycles available for hire.

Yelp
Oh my goodness, this is the BEST hotel I have ever stayed in!!! My partner booked this place just for me, because it advertised that it had artbooks and a coffee pod machine in the room ... well, The Larwill is so much more! As well as being a lovely room, it's the little things that make the difference here. Yes, there are art books, and a coffee pod machine (I prefer the real coffee from downstairs though, but it's a great thought!) - but what really made the difference were touches like a yoga mat, a documentary about David Larwill (the artist who inspired this hotel), and the relaxed and friendly atmosphere of the lobby and staff. The coffee shop downstairs is fantastic too, and the hospital's food court is close enough to grab a quick meal. I understand that they are planning their own cafe downstairs - I can't wait to try this next time we visit! We only stayed here one night, but I wish we could have stayed here longer - it is FANTASTIC!! They even gave us a park view from our room ;)

Yelp
I had the pleasure of being able to stay when this Hotel first opened in September. It was very easy to find, we just took the tram from Swanston street and it was about a 12 minute trip - just got off near the Children's Hospital Upon entering the lobby, I was blown away by the sheer expansiveness of it. Such a warm, welcoming HUGE space, with comfy chairs, sofas, bookcases - I could just spend an afternoon here curled up reading a book. There was even cute little chalkboards with messages, and paintbrushes everywhere! Our check in was seamless and we were upgraded to a lovely Parkview room - thankyou Dylan!. The staff welcomed me like an old friend, and I felt right at home - not like your typical Hotel at all! The Artwork throughout the Hotel was soooo good, to the little statue casually sitting next to the reception desk, to the primitive artwork of David Larwill scattered throughout the lobby, hallway and in the room. Our room was amazing, small touches like the funky throw on the bed, to the inspirational quotes by Mr Larwill himself really made this stay special. The room even had a microwave in it should we want to cook or reheat food! The bathroom was the funkiest one I have ever seen. Clean lines, spacious, heaps of room for my toiletries and never wanting for space. I really dislike Hotels that skimp on this space but The Larwill was honestly the best I have seen - with a bath tub to boot! And I just HAVE to mention the bed - I really did not want to get up in the morning! I could have laid there for the rest of the day, but alas we had to check out. We were graciously allowed to have a later checkout so we were able to enjoy the room for a little bit longer. A lot of people I have raved about this Hotel to have screwed up their noses when I tell them the location in norht Melbourne - BUT DO NOT LET THIS PUT YOU OFF! Its in a fantastic location, so close to the city, you can walk to the Queen Vic Markets (we would have had we not been pressed for time!) and there are a few restaurants in the area. If you are wanting to have a stay that is not your usual cookie cutter experience you get from Chain Hotels then PLEASE STAY HERE! you wont regret it! Room Tip: Ask for a parkview room - there is nothing better than waking up to a stunning view towards Melboure

Yelp
LARWILL, BABY. I CAN'T FAULT YOU. When I was planning my Melbourne trip for April 2015, I was pretty stoked to find that the Larwill had cropped up since my last visit to town. I couldn't resist trying it out for a couple of nights (one is never enough). The Larwill lives up to the Art Series Hotel standards, and that's saying something. I love these hotels. Personalised service, lovely notes and lollies on welcome, friendly staff, and the comfiest beds in town. If I could live in the Larwill, I happily would. Tips for travel: there are a couple of different tram lines within a block, so getting to the Larwill from the CBD (and vice-versa) is pretty dang easy. The Skybus hotel transfer won't get you to the Larwill, which is disappointing, but the bright side is that Starbus WILL! Not only that, but you'll probably be the first drop-off, because the Larwill's on the route in to the CBD from the airport. NICE. Make sure you don't miss visiting the meerkats in the childrens hospital next door while you're staying! THEY'RE SO CUTE.

Yelp
Love it. Was upgraded when I went to check in and my room overlooking the park and the city is beautiful. Just like the Olsen it has a comfortable bed great and clean bathroom and a well stocked minibar. There is only a small cafe at the moment so when the restaurant opens I am sure it will be 5 stars.

Yelp
This hotel was great. The beds were comfortable, the staff was friendly and very accommodating. Located right on the tram line so you can be in CBD in less than 20 mins.

Yelp
Aloha. This place was a memorable experience due to the great customer service, closeness to the park, and interior design. I stayed here 2 nights and loved the cute artsy items displayed and creative method for providing hotel info on the art wall. It felt modern and clean, yet there was a really special feel about it that you can't find at any typical chain hotel. Additionally, i LOOOVED that there was a yoga mat in the room. Also, the many times that i spoke to the front desk reps, they've been very helpful in fulfilling my requests and answering my questions with good attitude. I'd specifically like to point out Charlotte and Emrah for their great customer service. Thank you for your help and kindness. And great job to The Larwill Studio for employing such wonderful staff. I would highly recommend this hotel for those who like the quiet and peace with an artsy twist. The area is conducive for concentration on work or relaxation and the gym is fantastic too! Never crowded and open 24/7. Only thing i'd change on their adverstisements is that the shuttle bus from the airport is NOT free and must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance. One of the top reasons i chose to stay at this hotel was the the airport shuttle bus, which i thought was complimentary since the hotel search engine described that the hotel offered this service, but i only found that it was not free when i arrived in the Melbourne airport. Instead i took an Uber. Maybe make it clear that shuttle bus is not free and need to make arrangements 24hrs on search engine websites for visually impaired people like me?
