The Last Kitchen

Pretty much the best eatery we have visited on our fortnight trip so far. My green curry was perfection. My wife’s lamb shank slid off the bone. The kids menu was great for our children. It was a very tidy and pleasant setting and the staff were exceptionally attentive and polite. We probably shouldn’t have got desserts, but they were sickening delicious! Pleased with the price: was one of the few times my end-of-meal Bill guess was considerably higher than actuality, so my wallet was pleased too.

Very helpful staff, we didn’t have a booking and were offered several options. Food was good and decent proportions . Steak was properly good and the ragout was excellent. Desserts were quite nice, well presented and inventive . The place was quite full on a Monday night. Had run out of some food options by 8pm . Reservations are helpful No paywave, international credit cards accepted

Everything we ordered was delicious, and if we were staying in the area for longer would be back again tomorrow! The steak was cooked exactly as requested, with what turned out to be the perfect amount of mashed potato which came out as fluffy as the menu described. My wife got the cashew chicken and only managed half of it, happily taking the other half away for lunch the next day. And saving herself some room to split the chocolate cake, which was elegance in the mouth. Moist but with a consistency that kept it from falling apart, and warmed just enough to make the ice cream taste even better once combined.

We visited in the January school holiday period and the town was pretty quiet. Not too many people, which is kind of sad to see. We ordered steak and chips and the kids chose nuggets and chips from the Kid's menu. Food was pretty good. Reasonable priced drink menu as well

Good combination of spices, friendly staff, clean place and nice location. Meat is tender enough for a year old baby to eat. Kids enjoyed chicken fried rice.

Not for me 😬 really hated my chicken burger the pattie was full of spices which were really over powering, the burger came with a bunch of stuff not advertised in the menu such as beetroot and pineapple the chutney tasted really bad also. Overall the burger was a mess the bun was really good but there were far to many different ingredients that didn’t go together at all, the fries were really nice but not worth the $25 I also got garlic bread when served this tiny portion of off cut bread came out so small and some of the piece had no garlic or herbs on top. After hating my meal I complained to the staff but nothing came of it still hungry we ordered desert, the desert was average at best the chocolate sundae had three tiny scope of ice cream and the tiniest amount of chocolate sauce, the raspberry crumble had a weird film on top which was chewy and not pleasant at all the raspberry was really good but ruined by the film. My cousin got the lamb shank and it was extremely dry and tasteless also. The only saving grace was the cider which came in a bottle 😂 overall extremely disappointed after not picking apart my burger and complaining about it a few times to the waitress she did nothing to help and made us pay full price for all the items even though we barely touched our meal because of how bad they were. So if you have gotten this far then congratulations and thank you for reading and please please don’t waste you money like we did it wasn’t cheap and everything was extremely over priced.

The only 3 restaurants remain open in this Covid global pandemic. This town used to be so crowded and now hardly any people. We would like to support. Meals meet expectations, it is ok. The manager actually forgot the icecream for the kids meal. I hope it is a genuine mistake.

Lovely flavours, pork belly so soft and not fatty. Generous children’s pasta and vegetables, donated a few of my spicy prawns. Excellent dinner.

Slooow service. We were asked to wait 45mins before they would let us place our order. Once ordered, the food took 35mins. When it came, half of it was like warm, and the other half was a good temperature. This could be excused if they were very busy, but they only seat 20 people (one meal came out of the kitchen every 5-10mins). Having said that, the lamb shank and vegetarian delight (plus chicken) were very tasty... so as long as you have time you should be ok. The waiters were confused by the simplest of things: whether the wine was by the glass, whether to collect our plates or not, and brought me - cider instead of a beer (my order was clear). To top it off, they miscalculated the maths as we were paying and tried to charge us $20 extra.

It hurts my heart to not give a better review because I I thought that the woman that waited on me was great. With that said, I ordered the fish and chips and they were the most disappointing I have ever had. I received one piece of fish with some fries. The fish was soggy, the tarter was tasteless and they don't have malt vinegar. When I asked for malt vinegar, the server said she had never been asked for it before and had no clue what it was. She gave me white vinegar instead. To be clear, not all vinegar is the same. If you are going to have an item on the menu then I believe it is important you understand what options people may want. I order fish and chips a lot as a pescatarian and never have I had a restaurant not carry it. Unfortunately, the food was so bad that I left 1/2 my meal and went to the gas station for snacks on a long drive to Christchurch. If you choose to eat here then I would not get the fish and chips.

Great service and great food. Loved the lamb wrap. Wish I had taken pictures of it before finishing it.

Good Italian food. Was open till late and had big portions. We ordered a salad which was pretty good and pasta which was also a good option being vegetarians

Stumbled into this place on a rainy day- warm fire, cold beer, friendly warm waitstaff, and the beef and bacon burger had me on Cloud 9. Amazing soup and a bomb affogato to boot!

If you get here early, you have to wait, but later is better. Service and food fantastic, so good we ate here twice

Stopped here for lunch passing through. Very open and casual lunch experience. Waiter for friendly enough and the service was good. We ordered the lamb wrap and the crowded which were both nice. Meals around the 12-15 dollar range.

We had mussels, lamb and carrot soup. All the dishes were excellent and tasty. Service was just average. Wine selection was also nice.

Came here late on Saturday night with my sister. We sit down and the waitress oddly places the utensils where to the empty seat on my left and to my seat. I told my sister she doesn't exist here. ordered the lamb shank and she ordered some fish. Lamb tasted a little dry or just wasn't good. the sides that came with it were. Sisters fish was underwhelming as well. Prob wouldn't come back

Venison was quite nice as was the banana cream dessert. I heard good things from the others in our party about the other dishes as well.

Came twice in my short stay in Fox Glacier...the food was great but the service was sloooooow and apathetic. They'd be a solid 4.5 if the service was better. I don't even mind slow usually, but it was more like flat out ignore. The first night it took 20 minutes just for someone to approach my table. I ordered the roasted vegetables with chicken. It was excellent so I came back for night 2 and ordered the lamb burger. Also delicious! But it took forever...and there were only 2 other customers in the place. In conclusion, good food, bad service.

Solid 4 stars! My favorite was the seafood chowder. The flavor was phenomenal even though it wasn't as thick as I expected. I'm more familiar with New England clam chowder. My wife got the chicken salad and liked it. I got the ribeye steak and probably wouldn't again. That cut is my favorite and this one just didn't do it. We also got the banana caramel creme pie and even though it was delicious the name is misleading. It was more of a caramel bar with banana slices and creme on top with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Good service and friendly staff. They get busy and do take reservations.
