"The 1950s facade of The Laurel Inn reveals that this property—now a Joie de Vivre Hotel—has been part of San Francisco 's Pacific Heights neighborhood for many decades. But a multimillion dollar renovation in 2017 refreshed the boutique hotel's 49 guest rooms, while keeping the retro charm intact with midcentury modern furniture and rich velvet and wool textiles. Located within a few blocks of the Presidio and mere steps from the shops and restaurants of Sacramento Street, many of the spacious rooms have been designed with kitchenettes to add to the residential feel of the hotel. Ask for a room with a city view—watching the fog roll in over Pacific Heights and the downtown skyscrapers beyond that each morning from bed is an experience not to be missed. By Lyndsey Matthews"

Stayed here for one evening as it was centrally located to an appointment. The service was so kind and they have everything I need. The room and bed were comfortable, the bathroom amenities were nice, and it was quiet during the evening. I'm very appreciative to the front desk staff who assisted me - they offered things I needed and made a photocopy for me. The lounge next door was perfect when I just wanted to relax and get a quick bite. Will stay here again.

Had a great time staying at the Laurel Inn. It’s a 3 star hotel so set your expectations accordingly. We were able to check in an hour early. Room was clean. The location is perfect. Just what we were looking for. In a more residential area vs the busy downtown. Right down the street from the Presidio. Walking distance to plenty restaurants, grocery stores and a close drive to other destinations. Everyone was friendly and kind to our family. The parking garage is a bit small and pricey but didn’t want to deal with finding another one and it was convenient being able to come and go quickly and easily. We always felt safe. Didn’t try their bar or food so can’t comment on that. We loved our stay!

During our recent trip, the challenging situation of having to abruptly leave a previous hotel became a turning point as we checked into The Laurel Inn. The exceptional service provided by the staff at The Laurel Inn truly saved the day and made our stay all the more memorable. After encountering safety concerns at our prior lodging, we were immensely relieved to find a safe haven at The Laurel Inn. Their prompt assistance with a last-minute booking was not just efficient but also laced with genuine care and concern for our well-being. Throughout our stay, the staff went above and beyond in making us feel at ease and supported. Their understanding of our predicament and their efforts to ensure our comfort showed a level of professionalism and kindness that is truly commendable. The overall experience at The Laurel Inn surpassed all our expectations, leaving us feeling grateful for the warm and welcoming environment they provided. We highly endorse this hotel to anyone in search of a place that not only meets their needs but also exceeds them with unparalleled service. To the entire team at The Laurel Inn, we extend our heartfelt thanks for turning a potentially stressful situation into a pleasant and enjoyable stay. Your exceptional service and caring demeanor truly made a lasting impression.

The Laurel Inn is a three star hotel with four star pricing. Pros: People are welcoming, the Inn has access to an excellent gym ($20 a day) at the adjacent Jewish Cultural Center, and the parking is covered and onsite. Cons: Everything else. The lobby and rooms are tired and dated. The room did not feel clean, as suggested by the trash left by a prior occupant. The Inn is located on a busy street. The “quaint” neighborhood is not quaint or close. If you are expecting a Hyatt experience, go to an upscale Hyatt property. If you stay at this hotel, your first thought may be, “A Hyatt, really?”

The Laurel Inn is very consistent! Clean, nice staff always coffee out at the coffee bar in the lobby. It is a smaller hotel so it is easy to get to the rooms and you feel safe. It is in a great part of town, walkable to shopping, Presidio, restaurants etc!

Nice, clean rooms (renovated). No street noise from California St.. Convenient covered parking w very reasonable overnight fee (unlimited in and outs). Perfect location with nice cafes and restaurants nearby. Bonus benefit: JDV is part of Hyatt, useful for points redemption!

Third night on the road, finally a hotel with pillows that we liked! Service was excellent, front desk folks - both checking in and out - were very helpful and friendly. We were going to pay with cash, but the points needed seemed a better deal so we went with those.

Such a cool hotel with a 50's vibe. Loved the set up and decor. Great location.Went for a walk around the beautiful neighborhood. Comfortable hotel room, nice kitchenette area. Had coffee in the lobby in the morning and enjoyed the shower amenities.

Yelp
Part of Hyatt. Important to understand, if you're a Globalist, the program excludes a traditional breakfast at this property. See included breakfast items below, also received a juice. See language from program regarding this property. The hotel offered complimentary access to the Jewish Community Center (JCC) which is across the street and has a good selection of weights and cardio equipment along with a pool, sauna and hot tub. The bed was comfortable and room relatively quiet. Service was friendly.

Yelp
Such a cute hotel! I got there at 3 pm and Tanya welcomed me with hot cookies! So sweet! She is the best! And the room was darling!

Yelp
I stayed here in 2017. I know this review was long overdue. After reading through the other reviews, I didn't think I had it so bad. For parking and the expensive parking fees that other guests were saying, there are free parking available for one week or so behind the Laurel Village street mall. It is less than a 5 min. walk away. I was greeted by the African American gentleman so not sure who the other lady is. As for check in, I had an emergency and was there at about 1 pm ish - no problem as soon as my credit card went through, there was the room. I visited their next door bar previously and prior to the hotel stay, it was usually really dark, quiet and ambient, guests may consider relaxing there while waiting for the room to be ready. Price reasonable. As for sounds, I don't recall any, mostly because my room was in the downstairs. Technically may even be next to their underground parking lot. Maybe I am a bit immune to noise since I lived in wood thin homes without insulation in SF for 3/4 of my adult life. But honestly I slept through to 3-4 pm, ordered some food and slept again and didn't find any disturbances. This was a Saturday. I checked out Sunday, there were fresh breakfast bakery, drink with lemons and even dog biscuits for my dog. I ordered UberEats throughout my trip so don't care or have no comments regarding their room services/in room food delivery. I mean if you are looking for a four season type/6-star international acclaimed Michelin service, this is not "it" and for $300, you just need to up this by $99 a night, you can probably get some 6-star hotel deal with one free night here in the bay. As for heater and temperature control, it was okay. I am used to the rainy, foggy SF weather. I really like their Jonathan Adler Citrus & Sandalwood Body Lotion in miniature size, not sure if they continue to use these today. But okay to buy the whole bottle, I really like that refreshing and energized scents! It made me felt much better after shower with this line of toiletries. That's all for now. Will supplement with my pic if I am able to find it somewhere. :)

Yelp
My home away from home for the past month, the Laurel Inn is a true find in SF. It's a JDV property and we all know what that means...Johnathan Adler and cookies! Elegant decor, small and peaceful, great access to the city. The only drawback is current construction next door which they should (but don't) disclose at time of booking. HOWEVER I'd still stay there again and highly recco the LI for its elegance, charm, and location. And cookies.

Yelp
I really liked this place and will stay again. It is close to great, non touristy , neighborhoods and parks, so great location for some, like me, but maybe not for everyone. It is not fancy with no lobby to speak of, but the rooms were large and stocked with nice amenities. Comfy beds, nice linens, everything clean and new feeling. I didn't get to try their food place, not sure if it's a bar with snackish bites or full restaurant, but it looked well worth a try. I didn't park my car, but people complaining about $30 a day in SF are nuts, that's a normal to low price.
google avatar

Jed W.

Yelp
Nice folks. Clean rooms. Decent wifi. Parking available but extra (the "discounted" rate is $30/day for parking). Clean beds. Shower is finicky but otherwise works well. Rooms are surprisingly quiet for an urban hotel. Mattresses on the firm side but decent. Lots of pillows with different weights which is a nice touch. Elevator is a bit rickety and old but still works. Price is decent for SF. Pro tip - the blackout curtains are will hidden and tucked behind the decorative day curtains. Don't do what I did and suffer all night with a too-bright room from the street lights streaming in only to find the blackouts in the morning! Otherwise no complaints.

Yelp
Fabulous place fantastic location and wonderful staff !! It feels homey and I love the view.

Yelp
Probably the nicest people you'll ever meet! Gill, the manager, is the best but everyone is very nice and accommodating. Always fresh coffee and real coffee cups and occasionally some warm cookies. Great bar as well, all around a nice find in SF.

Yelp
The Laurel is a quiet, small inn in a safe San Francisco neighborhood. It's not fancy, but it's quite nice, a good value. The rooms are large, comfortable beds, we even had a little kitchenette with a fridge and coffee maker and microwave. The staff is friendly and welcoming. The only drawback is the parking. Tiny spaces, first come first serve. We did get a tight spot and I don't know what I would have done if there hadn't been a spot for me. There is a bar with bites but no restaurant.
google avatar

Rach S.

Yelp
Last minute reservation here. Stayed 2 nights. Great location and quiet neighborhood. Cute place, clean room and I love that there's a covered parking lot. The gentleman that checked us in was nice. The beds were a little uncomfortable. Due to COVID restrictions if you want coffee or tea you have to ask the front desk and they will provide you hot water for you to make it.

Yelp
The first impression I had here was walking into the front desk and the lady asking me "did you park your car?" I said yes, in the handicap spot right outside and she said very rudely "do you need to park a car here? I don't need to know where you parked, tell me if you need to park your car here." I let her know that yes, I will be keeping my car here and she told me I needed to move it to the lower parking lot. I did and found that there are no handicapped spots in the lower parking lot and I was charged a significant amount for parking overnight at the hotel. What a terrible first impression. I paid over $300 for the one night I stayed and my room wasn't even ready at 3:15pm when I arrived, even though it said check in was at 3:00pm. Very disappointed in the treatment of the staff and that my room wasn't ready at the time I paid for it to be ready.

Yelp
I stayed at Laurel Inn from 8/25/23-9/14/2023. I had to spend this time in San Francisco to be close to the hospital I had treatment for 3 weeks. Considering how long I had to stay in one hotel/Inn, I could have not had a better experience. Every staff member from front desk to management to house keepers and to the ones who made the delicious scones and cookies and anyone I came in contact with WERE absolutely the best. All courteous, professional, very helpful and accommodating. The lobby was small and quaint, coffee was always fresh and very clean. The rooms were very spacious, had a great view, very clean and comfortable. Never had any problems with WIFI. It was located in a perfect place for shopping, plenty of restaurants and just taking daily walks. I can honestly say in the 2 plus weeks I stayed there I never ever had one complaint. I would definitely recommend the Laurel Inn/San Francisco to everyone and would definitely stay there again.

Alison G.

Yelp
My mom had to have heart surgery at Kaiser SF and I got a room for my 83 year old dad here. They were helpful and accommodating. I can't say enough great things. The rooms were spacious and immaculate as well. I highly recommend this hotel.

Yelp
Great Hotel. Not sure what the complaints on other reviews stem from. The room is clean and well appointed with a nice bathroom. The GM is very friendly and accommodating. The parking fee is steep and a bit of a surprise for this part of town. Nice view of the city and pretty well located for multiple neighborhoods. Gym access at the JCC across the street.

Yelp
Second stay here. Last time there was a renovation going on -- and they really needed it. Rooms needed to be updated, scaffolding over the windows, dark lobby and halls. I was hesitant to stay again, but its closest to my sister's house. This time? Reborn. I love it. Updated mid century modern boutique with comfortable bed, spacious room with Jonathan Adler toiletries and soft robes. Nice job. Lobby is now bright and welcoming, has 24 hour coffee and tea and morning pastries. I will be back!

Yelp
The Laurel Inn, and its bar next door (The Laureate), made a big difference for my wedding in November 2019. We hosted our rehearsal dinner at the Laureate, and it was the perfect, intimate venue for our two families to get to know one another and relax before our big day. Eika at the bar did a fantastic job hosting our crowd of about 25 people. It was a good value too! We worked with Gill to create a block of rooms for out-of-town guests, and she was very friendly and flexible throughout the process. When researching other hotels for room blocks, I did not find this same level of flexibility. Our friends and family had lovely stays and will be back when visiting SF.

Brianna B.

Yelp
Great location and price. Very clean and the rooms are spacious (especially for SF where things tend to be small). Nice updated bathrooms as well. Covered garage and free coffee in the lobby. Walk to Fillmore street for shops/restaurants. Also just a 5 minute drive the the Marina. I will be back!

Yelp
I wish I had read these reviews before staying at Laurel Inn. I had the same bad experience the other reviewers had. Terribly unfriendly (hostile) woman at the front desk. Room assigned to us was next to the elevator and stairs even though they weren't anywhere near full. Walls are paper thin, $40 parking fee/night that was unexpected.... I could go on and on but long story short... terrible experience!!
google avatar

Mama C S.

Yelp
"Cute place but needs to address staff taking poops in paid rooms and resolve the mice issue!" The lobby was adorable and the guy at the front was so nice! The room was beautiful and we had a view of the city, which was great! When we checked in and got our room keys and went up to our rooms there was a service or staff member taking a poop in our room! I mean come on....we all go but aren't there employee bathrooms? (this was a stomach ache poop-AWFUL). Anyway, we just decided not to say anything because we didn't want anyone in trouble. When we headed out through the lobby a mouse ran right in front of us and stopped us in our tracks! ECKS! Then at bedtime and throughout the night there was a mouse or several mice in our room eatting our dogs food, going through the trash, crumbling or digging at who knows what!

Yelp
Extremely overpriced. Zero care. Room w/ view which, with fog and smoke, was a bust and looked over a petco parking lot. Nowhere are we advised that the hotel is at the hub of trams and therefore NOISY. The furniture is ok BUT a cheap curtain on the closet by the entrance door is offensive. Price tags everywhere, it seems, and in times of Covid it should be MANDATORY to send guests home with the toiletries than charge for them. Please IRON THE LINENS ESPECIALLY NOW. Overpriced parking $40+. Zero amenities. Staff does not even get up to greet you. WAY OVERPRICED for the motel 6 experience.

Lynn C.

Yelp
We can recommend the Laurel Inn highly. We welcomed 4 out-of-town parties for a special celebration. Manager Gill Elkof was a dream to work with. She was so accommodating and personable. Each of our guests had nothing but praise for the rooms, the cleanliness, and the hospitality shown by the staff. Gill rolled with us as we changed reservations 3 times due to Covid. She even managed to find a room for a last-minute reservation on a very busy weekend for the hotel. Can't say enough about the Laurel Inn
google avatar

Gus C.

Yelp
Awful noise insulation. Once the buses start at 5:30am, you'll get woken up; the street noise is deafening. Our neighbors were also evidently woken up as we could hear them through the thin walls.

Yelp
Great room, very safe location, and friendly staff! Short walk to a nice local grocery store and the scenic Lyon Steps. They had complimentary lavender lemonade, water, and cookies in the lobby. The staff is very nice and even recognized me from a prior trip. My family and I will continue to stay here whenever we are in SF.

Sierra L.

Yelp
Lovely small hotel in an excellent location. Very attentive and friendly staff. Close to the Presidio and Golden Gate Park -- worth the extra money to stay away from crowded tourist areas.

Yelp
Nice little hotel in Presidio Heights. My room was small, nicely decorated, but did have a unfortunate dog urine smell when I walked in. I was surprised to find that the window could be opened, widely at that. A bit of a hazard if you a traveling with small children or people who are just clumsier than most. I had s great view out my giant window, and that was great. The bathroom was spacious, nicely appointed and clean. Definite points for that. The mattresses were comfortable, which is the most important aspect. Lots of points for that. The young man when we checked late at night was very polite- a definite plus when you have had a long miserable day of traveling. So whoever you are, good job being you. The older gentleman covering the morning shift was the opposite, so I tried to interact with him very little and hoped he was able to find a better way to be. Over all, I found the hotel to be quaint , clean, with comfortable beds. I took one star off for the dog urine smell, other than that it was a great place to sleep and wake up in, and very convenient to my appt.

Yelp
I've stayed at the Laurel Inn a few times over the past year. They have beautifully decorated and spacious rooms. I stayed in the room with kitchenette (has a sink, fridge, microwave, and eating area). The staff is always welcoming and friendly. There is coffee/tea available, and sometimes cookies as well (covid precautions permitting). The bar is also great, and bartender is very friendly and helpful. Thanks for taking care of me Laurel Inn!

Yelp
Really clean, nice place with friendly staff. Booked through Travelocity and one of the reasons was because breakfast was to be included. No one told us it wasn't available at check in and it wasn't posted anywhere. They even still had the room service menus in the rooms. Called downstairs to find out in the morning, that their kitchen is closed. Everything in the room felt like it had a price tag, from parking to the toiletries. For the price we paid, we expected more.
google avatar

David S.

Yelp
My review has to do with their pricing and business partners. DO NOT EVER BOOK THROUGH Hotel Beds.com they are a criminal organization. I was charged over 1293 dollars for two nights! When I cancelled, The Laurel Inn could not/would not refund my money. The third party charged us ovwe 220.00 OVER THE GOING RATES! As of this review, I have cancelled my two nights, I have not received any refund. The management at the Laurel Inn is either absent, or non-caring. I consider their third party affiliations to be fraudulent. Pay in cash at the premises or not at all.

Yelp
I think this is the worst hotel I've ever stayed in! My boyfriend, brother, and I were having a little get away trip to San Francisco. Before that, we booked the hotel room on Expedia and chose this hotel in comparison to Marriott because of the location and price. I regret so badly because I did not check Yelp reviews first. We stayed in the Laurel Inn for 2 nights. The check in experience was okay, the front desk African American man was very friendly; checkout lady was kind of rude.Their elevator looks cool with a door. After a long drive from LA we just want to lay on the bed once we got in the room 102. However, there was BLOODSTAIN on my BEDSHEET!!!! We were shocked, but we were too tired to complaint and fall asleep on the bed. I thought I would give the housekeeping second chance because I believe they would change the bed sheet the next day. Surprisingly they did not change it and I ended up sleeping on it for 2 nights. EWWW Their soundproof was horrible. We could hear people talking in the hallway. One more thing that is more bothering is we can even hear the footstep from people upstairs, early in the morning!!! Another NO is parking. I read reviews from below saying that they charge $20 parking fee per night. But what I got charged was $22 of parking fee and $3 of parking tax and random $2 of donation. So I ended up paying $50+ for parking two nights? They also charge some extra that I have no idea what it was for. Feels like a rip off. One plus thing is their bathroom. It was huge, nice, and simple. I love it especially the lighting. It was raining so hard during December 17-19, and it was kind of cold in the room. I guess they did not have a heater? Overall, the hotel and weather kills my mood for vacation. If you are staying in this hotel, be aware to those extra fees and check out any nasty stuff you see in the room and complaint!!! Don't be too kind.

Yelp
I have stayed at the Laurel Inn two times during trips to San Francisco on business. Overall, it is a charming, little hotel with lots of character. It is in a great location in the Laurel Heights neighborhood with quite a few good restaurants within walking distance. The rooms are clean (although there are a few odd, "old building" smells lingering). Although I missed having a coffee pot in the room, coffee is offered throughout the day in the lobby. The mattresses are glorious - the most comfortable ones I have ever slept on. I even stripped the sheets and mattress cover to get a look at the brand. However, if you typically do not stay at independent, old, small hotels - especially for business - there are some things that you should know before staying at the Laurel Inn: - The "thin" walls and ceiling are not conducive for getting work done. Not only will you hear every creak of the floorboards but conversations occurring in the next room will seem as if they are happening in your room. This is not an exaggeration. - There is no fitness center. - The one room I was in had no desk or workspace while the second room did. Request a room with a desk if you need one.

Yelp
I will start by saying I did not stay here. The one star is for the horrible customer service by the manager. We purchased a gift certificate for a one night stay here at a charity auction. When we tried to redeem it on a Monday for Wednesday night of the same week (my mother in law had to have surgery and we needed a last minute room for my father in law), we were told they had 3 rooms available but would not honor the certificate because it was a big conference weekend and they could "sell this room for $800." Ok, fine, I get that. The gift certificate does say "subject to availability" and clearly there is availability if you have three rooms open 48 hours before the night I want to stay, but whatever, you are trying to maximize profit, fine. So, I politely ask if we could check back on Wednesday afternoon and if there was still vacancy then could we use the certificate. The manager went nuts, saying "No...the answer is no! Clearly you don't get it. I give out a lot of these gift certificates and you use them on my terms." I politely state that it would have been nice to know what the terms of redemption were ahead of time and he starts ranting about how no one has ever asked him to specify terms before. I hung up on him still ranting about it. I know the certificate was a donation, but it's not really a donation if you can only use "subject to rude managers whim"

Yelp
Terrible customer service- bad attitudes all around. Disappointing hotel rooms and felt very run down.

Yelp
This is the cutest boutique hotel in such a good area. Very quiet part of the city with easy access to everything. The management team is so helpful, kind, and just wonderful. I've been staying here for work and will definitely come back for fun!

Yelp
I booked this hotel last minute through HOTEL TONIGHT for Pride weekend. Showed up at the hotel a few hours later. We were greeted right away by a very friendly agent at the front desk. He was in the middle of checking in another customer but still took a sec or two to greet us. The check in was super fast. Prices on hotel tonight are unbelieveable. It was Pride Weekend so most of the hotels in SF were booked or way too expensive. We paid $177 and $20 for valet parking. It's located in the Pacific Heights area so you are away from the hectic Union Square. When booking through Hotel Tonight you don't know what kind room you will get. It's like a surprise. It could be bad or good. In our case it was fantastic! Our room was so fucking spacious. Including the bathroom area...it's like the size of my living room and kitchen put together. Our room had a King size bed which was so comfortable with a wooden bench at the foot of the bed. A loveseat, flat screen TV, and a dinette set. One thing I didn't like about our room was the toilet. The toilet was small and cramped in between the shower and the sink area. It was so uncomfortable to use the toilet. The bathroom could use an upgrade. Fresh cookies and lemonade daily in the lobby.

Yelp
The Laurel Inn was suggested by a colleague in Tacoma who stays here every visit to San Francisco. It is a quaint boutique hotel with character, which is my preference. The front desk attendants were very nice and helpful. Complimentary fresh brewed coffee, which is great for a work trip when I don't have time to stop at a coffee shop. Location may not be convenient depending on where you are going, but our event was in the Presidio so it worked perfectly. Walking distance from Trader Joe's and some restaurant/coffee options. This part of town lacks night life, but that makes it easier for a good night's sleep!

Yelp
If you have even the slightest sensitivity to perfumes and scents beware. The minute you walk in the door from outside there is a strong odor. It smelled like strong cleaning supples. I asked about it and they said they use a plug in room deodorizer in the lobby at all times. The carpet throughout is either permanently stained or dirty. The room itself has a perfume smell to it but not as strong as the lobby. If you must stay because there is nothing else available in SF, you will be glad that the location is a good one and the neighborhood is clean. Not horrific but will not stay again.

Yelp
My only regret about this hotel was that I couldn't stay longer. Such a cute, clean room with all the amenities. The staff was great. There were warm cookies at check-in. What more could I ask for? I wish every hotel was like this.

Yelp
I just want you to know that this hotel is not to Expedia standards at all!! It was bad really, really bad :-( and then to boot they charged us $28.00 dollars a night to park our car without telling us up front. My sister lives around the corner and I have walked past this hotel a million times and always thought it would be boutique nice but it isn't its more comparable to a flea ridden hostel. No screens on the windows and no air. Bad, Bad, Bad, yellowed sheets stained carpet and furniture Bad. We stayed at another Joie de Vivre hotel in Santa Cruz and could not have been happier, this was not only a great disappointment but a sentence to endure.

Yelp
I have stayed at the Laurel Inn 3 times in the past few months and can not say enough nice things about this place. I find the staff to be the most helpful and friendly of any hotel I've stayed in. The staff has gone out of their way in countless ways to make my stay comfortable. The staff has been so understanding of our situation. My father has been hospitalized at UCSF a few times, so this is a great location as it is close to the free UCSF shuttle between the Laurel Heights and Parnassus campuses. The rooms are nicely decorated and the beds comfortable. There's always a nice selection of teas and coffee as well as cookies at night and pastries in the morning. I really love the neighborhood - so many cute boutiques and restaurants to walk to along with fabulous local markets.

It's a shame to give them 2 stars, because I liked it starting out, but two things happened on my checkout day. 1. On my bill, they added a $1 "donation" to their own charity, without giving me any information about what that charity was for, and then required me to ask that it be removed. It is a ridiculous practice, and will probably put them in line for a class action lawsuit. 2. At 10:30 on checkout day (checkout is 12), housekeeping waltzed into my room without knocking. Fortunately for all, I had just wrapped up with a towel. Who does that? Even if your 99% sure the room is empty (and they had no reason to be 1% sure), wouldn't you knock? Shouldn't you knock?

Yelp
I had read reviews here that the desk people were not friendly. I found them to be very friendly. No-- they are not hyper fussing over you, but the check in was simple and fast. I saw people mention parking is an issue. That may be true if you have an RV or a truck, but I had a car and loved that I could park and go in and out for a flat daily fee. Ever go to the Driscoll Hotel nearby? They have NO PARKING and have a guy who parks you car on the street and moves it every three hours. I did not like that at all since they could not find my car the next day. Always felt I had to check to be sure nothing was missing from my car. The Laurel Inn is clean, the bed is a good bed. A desk and sofa, and nicely decorated. I had a small kitchen and it was well equipped and clean and spacious. There is a spacious bathroom, good shower head and water pressure, and grab bars in the shower - excellent maid service too. The room was super quiet all day and through the night. I thought since it is dog-friendly I might hear barking, but nothing. Cookies and lemon water, muffins and coffee in the lobby. My room had a city view and when I got up in the morning the sunrise was spectacular, so I recommend a city view room, since it's worth the price, and of course the higher floors likely have an even better view. I was in 108. The elevator is old, but a nice European personality. Plus the internet is fast and free. I was not able to try the restaurant next door, but did go to dinner at Spruce one night (On Sacramento) and it was excellent. Also had lunch twice at Food Inc Trattoria on California near Divisadero, and it was also excellent. Best sandwiches! and great bread. But...Love the parking lot at the Laurel Inn. No rip off in and out fee, which really can add up at hotels with only valet parking. Plus, it is self park so you do not have to tip a valet each time you go in and out like in the Union Square hotels. Very few SF hotels have a lot like this. I read some people complain that there is no A/C in the rooms. In SF you would need AC in the room maybe 3 days a year. The windows open at night and many high-rise hotels have windows that do not open. I love Fresh air at night and even with my window open, it was quiet. I have stayed in SF many times and I will never stay near Fisherman's Wharf or near Union Square again. The streets are filthy and there are people begging and sleeping on the streets. It is totally nasty. The neighborhood where the Laurel is felt very friendly to me, and very safe and clean. There are interesting little shops on California and Sacramento streets, small local-feeling restaurants. If you want to sight see, busses are close and you can walk many places. The Firehouse Museum is very close and interesting. What you save on parking makes up for any downfalls at The Laurel Inn, and I didn't find anything to complain about - and trust me, I usually can. I will be back, for sure.

Yelp
We stayed for a total of 5 nights here, because it is dog friendly and we simply will make any sacrifice necessary to have our pooch with us, comfortably. That was the case here. It was a very nice hotel, very clean. We stayed in there "suite" it was night and day compared to there normal rooms and for a moderate bump in price. Parking... good luck.. knocked both my mirrors off trying to park.. it was like a bad scene from Austin Powers.. There is a sweet pooch shop opening up less than a block away.. in early Feb... so that is a plus. I guess what I am getting at is this place is very nice for dog owners.. Staff are hit and miss depending on the gender and current attitude.. The reason we give one star is DISCRIMINATION.... so we come back to check in on a completely separate trip, and are told that no matter what we can not stay here cause of the way we look lol!... so what we just woke up, we really don't give a flying F**K how we look on a Sunday morning... and we were going to the beach... umm who the hell wears Armani to the beach.. or there nice clothes none the less... so the 2011 vehicle we drove up in wasn't good enough for miss.. whatever her name is.. To the Establishment.. its about time to lay off your crap workers and give the jobs to people who would actually appreciate the work and enjoy helping people to have a nice stay.. F THIS PLACE... go to the Ocean Park Motel.. where your treated with respect and dignity in your beach wear. :) F Jerks.

Yelp
When San Francisco is sold out due to a city-wide convention, this cozy and plain hotel will work in a pinch when you need a roof over your head. Two bonuses: close to Union Street shopping/restaurants and pet friendly!

Yelp
I gotta go with the A-OK. This is high season in SF for hotels, so pricing for everything is up. The total cost for a room in September (including taxes) was around $190 per night. Parking is no longer free - although it is really convenient. It is $18 per night. Here's my breakdown: Staff - very attentive Rooms - spacious but dated, no air conditioning and during the heat wave that was Indian Summer this past week, that was a bit of a problem. But, I think for about 340 days of the year, no air is no problem. Clean enough. Bathroom was fine - but older and I had a shower, but no tub - not a problem for me. GREAT LOCATION - California takes you directly downtown in about 5 minutes. Or two minutes to the Presidio or 5 minute drive to Lombard Street and Cow Hollow area. 10 minutes or so drive to Nob Hill and my favorite part of Polk Street. I didn't get to experience the bar that's attached, but it looked like a good thing. The Jewish Community Center has a very nice workout facility that you can use with a hotel discount for $12 per day.

Yelp
This hotel is very run down. Dirty carpets. Dirty elevator that feels like a freight elevator. Painters tape still up on doors that were quickly touched up. Broken shades. I've posted some photos so take a look. I will not stay again. I was not asked. How my stay was. They just took the money and I'm sure we're grateful for an occupant.

Yelp
They say Pac Heights is one of the quietest areas in San Francisco, and quite frankly that is quite true...except when it comes to Presidio avenue with its 24/7 loud busses and after 10pm throngs of drunks coming out of the only bar in the area which is...in this same hotel! We were relocated here from the Carlton in downtown since there were no rooms there despite our reservations made long ago. We were given a room just down the hall from the front desk...special treatment you'd say...but no, it was one of the loudest rooms we've ever stayed in, including Hanoi in Vietnam, and it was a bit dinky, being somewhat underground and with an awesome view of pedestrians' feet, with an uncomfortable bed. The rooms looks nice, but don't be fooled! The front desk was nice and the breakfast was good although there is limited place where to eat. Bottom line, if you want a quiet place just don't stay in this room, or any room facing the road.

Yelp
Love the look and decor of this hotel. The people are super nice and the building is very old so it has a great nostalgic feeling and architecture. If you are doing a photo shoot or like taking pics this place is perfect. The colors and furniture are great. The room is big and clean and you can't go wrong. Now, that takes me to the bed. I like soft mattresses and this mattress was super firm so not really a good match. I didn't get a good night's sleep because I tossed and turned constantly but if you like firm mattresses this is for you. If it had a soft mattress I would give this 5 stars.
