The Lawrance Luxury Apart-Hotel York

I stayed last week in a 2 bedroom apartment in York. The apartment was very clean and the bed was extremely comfortable. Contemporary bathroom and kitchen. The setting is superb, in a beautiful courtyard within the city walls and only a 10 minute walk to the centre. I will be back.

Stayed in apartment number 19. Found it cold and unable to put the heat above 22 without it going off. Also as a smoker I found there was no where for us to go other than the front street which is not ideal when wanting to have a cigarette when you wake up. The apartment was lovely but not worth the money in my opinion.

Don't book with The Lawrance. They have withdrawn the parking discount days before our trip and will not honor it even though it was in the terms and conditions when I booked. Tried emailing and customer services is a lot to be desired. For the price that is charged loyal customers should be treated better and honor discounts which are listed when bookings are made. Also apartments could do with maintence every now and again for the price that is charged

As a family we’ve been coming here for years, over twenty times, however I unfortunately no longer believe this is the best option in York. “No.1 York” absolutely blows this place out of the water in every regard. We have stayed loyal to Lawrance, but this stay simply hasn’t been good enough. The apartments, still lovely are becoming perhaps a touch dated, lacking a bit of character and TLC. Scuffs. Unclean towels. Grimey shower. No bath robes. Plastic signs with rules.. and most importantly… I booked our stay for this weekend 6 months in advance. I spoke to them when booking and made them aware it was for a 60th celebration, and paid for the two biggest and best apartments. On arrival we have been given the smaller ones. We received a message stating due to issues we have been downgraded (for one room, not two) - no real explanation and no discount!!! We’ve all stayed here before and I’ve had to explain to my mum on her 60th birthday that I did book her the big apartment we love, but there’s been some sort of issue. Hmmm. I am lay here on Sunday morning, and from about 5:30am the squeaking noise in our room I assume electrical/ boiler has had us stirring and unable to sleep. Stomping and door slamming upstairs from someone too. Parking now also isn’t included.. I think for just shy of £600 for two basic rooms as a very regular customer booking 6 months in advance, we should be getting better. If the downgrade was unavoidable then make extra effort, call and explain, leave a kind gesture in the room to make up for it. Show you care. Sadly we won’t return and No.1 York will be the new stomping ground. They make you feel like royalty!

The location was great, walking distance to the town Pillows were so soft that there was no point in having any pillows on the bed But after leaving the apartment we got an email to say their was a broken wine glass on the counter with the shard next to it and I have been charged for it Me and my partner know full well that it was washed up and put away in the cupboard We are honest people and if we were to break anything we would of left it out in plain sight and emailed them to let them know I asked for proof, which they didn’t provide although they told me that the cleaners take pictures and send them to staff members, so not sure why I never received a clear picture They said as soon as they walked in it was on the counter top and I know for sure I never leave anything out when leaving a hotel stay Didn’t like the fact I was accused of something I hadn’t done and charging me straight away If anyone was to stay here I’d say make sure you take videos/pictures of everything before you leave incase they charge you randomly

The place was nice but the staff were rude from start to finish. I wouldn’t have minded the staff talking about customers behind their back but one looked like a horse and the other one an XL version of peppa pig. I know yorks a bit rural but thought I’d turned up on emmerdale farm for a second. Wouldn’t stay there again because how you’re treated matters so much to the experience.

Kevin and his wife Susan included us as part of their family. Rooms comfortable. Breakfast delicious. A little intimate bar to have a drink. Highly recommend you stay with them.

We stayed for three nights in apartment 12. Visually as soon as you walk in the apartment looks great. It is also a great location with a short walk to the centre and a bus stop really close by that we used to travel to the York Designer Outlet. The 33% of parking was brilliant and easy to do as well. Unfortunately every morning we woke up at 6am or earlier as the room only had slatted blinds which let so much light in. The set of blinds above the desk/dressing table did not close fully flush so at all times the room was still very light even with the lights off and blinds “closed.” For a luxury apartment I would expect black out blinds or curtains as these blinds are not fit for a bedroom. As someone else mentioned in a review also the bar stools are too high for the bar so it is very uncomfortable/not really possible to sit at. Overall this is the second time we have stayed here, the first time was in one of the deluxe apartments and this time in just a one bedroom apartment. While the whole apartment is wonderful being able to sleep is a very big part of staying in a hotel. I wouldn’t rush back to stay in this apartment again, especially in comparison to the deluxe one.

Wonderful apartments on a quiet side street. Clean, modern space -- and absolutely the most comfortable bed and bedding we had anywhere on our 2-week trip. Very nice, responsive, and accommodating front desk too -- by email or phone. The only snafus were: 1) when our vent in our bedroom starting leaking condensation onto our things in the middle of the day. Thankfully, our friend was home taking a couple of work calls, so he called maintenance. And 2) I got locked in and couldn't leave as I was running late for dinner, because our key cards that opened our apartment and the gate to get out all stopped working just on that gate. Bit of a freak-out moment for me, but thankfully, phoning the front desk brought someone out to help me get out.
