Extremely Distressing Experience – Unsafe for Anyone with Medical or Dietary Needs. Please Read This Before Deciding to Book.
I booked a 7-night detox and wellness retreat at The LifeCo Bodrum, hoping for a calm, healing environment similar to the wonderful experience I had the week before at Sianji Wellness. At Sianji, the staff were kind, empathetic, and genuinely caring — they treated every guest with warmth and respect. The contrast at The LifeCo could not have been more stark.
From the moment I arrived, the atmosphere at The LifeCo felt clinical and unfriendly rather than welcoming. The resort itself is small and, while the facilities are more modern, there is no beach and the overall energy felt uncomfortable. Even during the group walk on my first morning, I was completely ignored for the entire duration, despite trying to engage and be friendly.
Despite informing several staff members that I was unwell with a urinary tract infection and have kidney impairment — and sharing my hospital notes before arriving — I was repeatedly served juices and meals containing ingredients that my doctor had specifically advised me to avoid. When I asked politely if one of the juices contained spinach, a staff member replied, “What now?” in a dismissive tone that made me feel as though I was being difficult or demanding. I’m genuinely not that kind of person — I’m polite and respectful — but the way I was spoken to was quietly upsetting.
This created an unsettling environment where I no longer felt cared for or safe consuming the food or juices being served. The environment lacked warmth, empathy, and even basic compassion.
After two days, I decided I could not stay any longer and asked in the morning if I could leave and receive even a partial refund. I want to note that I was never rude or confrontational — when I’m uncomfortable, I tend to withdraw quietly. Instead of offering any support, I was passed between staff members for hours, all while feeling physically unwell and emotionally drained. Eventually, I was told that only a credit note could be offered, which made me feel trapped. I spent the next four hours alone in my room, still unwell and not having eaten all day, and no one checked on me or offered to bring food or juice. I was left crying in my room until I finally arranged a taxi myself. No one helped with my luggage or came to see if I was okay. The way they handled a guest in distress and suffering from illness was truly appalling.
To make matters worse, I later found out that my private complaint had been shared among staff in a group chat, which felt humiliating and deeply unprofessional. I also later discovered that the resort had processed two separate payments under different company names — one in euros and one in pounds — resulting in a duplicate overcharge. Even after I sent a formal complaint detailing everything that happened, no one from The LifeCo has responded or even acknowledged the distress I experienced.
I am
Now spending the remaining of my holiday in a cheap Airbnb when I should have been a restorative health retreat, trying to resolve the financial issues with my bank. The LifeCo hasn’t once checked on me since leaving or replied to my formal complaint.
The LifeCo promotes itself as a place of healing and transformation, but what I experienced was the complete opposite — a cold, unsettling environment where compassion and humanity were missing. Having come directly from Sianji Wellness, where the staff were genuinely friendly, attentive, and kind-hearted, the difference was shocking.
For anyone considering The LifeCo, especially if you’re seeking a nurturing environment for health recovery or emotional wellbeing, I would strongly recommend reconsidering. Wellness requires warmth, care, and empathy — none of which I found here.
