Cute hostel in downtown Puerto Viejo. Location is great, they have a little coffee shop right next to reception and a bar/garden in the back. Rooms were clean and bathrooms were well kept. Maybe it was just us but some of the volunteers made it seem cliquey and that you were staying at their house and weren’t super welcome. Two of the dogs are semi friendly, one snapped at my girlfriend when she let it sniff her hand. Overall great hostel with a great location though.

I highly recommend this hostel, it’s in the best location town. ||It has a great layout with fantastic coffee shop situated at the front, with rooms mainly downstairs with kitchen and chill out area upstairs.||They have a bar offering cheap drinks from 6pm which has a chilled and friendly vibe and always options of getting involved in a game or going on to another bar afterwards. ||I stayed on and off for 2 weeks in a 4 bed dorm which was really nice and cleaned regularly to a good standard. ||Also I went on a tour to the waterfalls via the hostel which was excellent. ||Staff and volunteers are extremely helpful and friendly. |Everyone is very inclusive and went out of their way to help me. ||Do yourself a favour in your in Puerto Viejo and book yourself into this hostel!

We loved our stay at Lionfish, so much that we extended our stay twice! Rooms are basic but worth the price, and the vibe is social and friendly without being a party hostel (noise stops at 11pm). The staff are great, and the kitchen is well equipped with everything you need. Very close to the beach and bus station. Would definitely stay again.

I stayed in the 4 person dorm and the beds were comfy, the sheets were clean and the bathroom was always clean as well. I loved the garden/bar area with the cheapest beers and cocktails in town! The staff was very friendly and the kitchen was spacious! The location was also near many awesome beaches

stayed in a quad room with 3 friends. It was like being in a boiling dark dungeon with no air. Yes there was 1 fan attached to the wall but no fresh air for it to push around. Dirty floors in room and some beds made up with bottom and top sheet some beds just one sheet, not even sure they were clean. Super noisy from traffic, people taking bikes from the rack outside room etc. very limited bathroom facilities for this size place. Toilets upstairs only for weeing as did not flush properly. Downstairs 3 toilet/showers which means if someone was just having a shower the toilet was occupied as in same room. Filthy and unhygenic as only cleaned once a day which for the amount of people using them was ridiculous. Garden had dog poo in it as used by the staff's pets which roam freely. Reception staff had little knowledge to help answer simple questions and very unhelpful as way too busy just chilling out. I have stayed in many hostels and this was by far one of my worst experiences. It's only saving grace is the location which is super central, but it really is NOT worth it. Especially as many other nice hostels around like Sel y Sucre around the corner which I stayed in before.

The hostel was very cozy, it felt like home. Also the staff was very friendly, the price of the hostel was good, so I recommend everyone who’s looking for a hostel in puerto viejo to come here. The only thing is that I wish we got breakfast. Pancakes for example is super easy to serve. |But all to all, I loved it ! Big shout out to the staff.

This is the perfect location in whole Puerto Viejo! A cozy hostel right in the centre, lively atmosphere but still quiet enough to sleep. There were a lot of renovations done in the last months so that it is now getting really nice and modern. It is clean enough for a hostel, prices are excellent and the people here are great.

The Lion Fish is in the heart of Puerto Viejo. Close to the beach, supermarket, and places to eat. They have great coffee and fried chicken right outside the hostel. The rooms are nice and clean. The kitchen is fully equipped, tons of space, and gets a great breeze. There are different places to hangout. The garden/bar is a fun, chill atmosphere with cheap drinks, places to hangout, and beer pong. It's a good time staying at the Lion Fish hostel!
