"The Lisboans, boutique apartments in a restored 19th-century canning factory."
"So, what's the appeal of this set-up?These 15 apartment-inspired rentals make guests feel like residents, with Juliet balconies to watch the trams and people go by, kitchenettes, and tastefully designed rooms. They're in a great location in a quiet residential district between Alfama and Chiado, just a short walk to bustling Praça do Comércio. Sounds like the perfect location. What’s the crowd like?Independent travelers love The Lisboans Apartments for their self-serve feel. At any given time, you'll see a mix of business and leisure travelers coming and going; the autonomous setup and lack of communal areas means most guests stay fairly private. Got it. But then, how was check in?Given the nature of this do-as-you-please hotel, you’re a bit on your own for figuring things out—don’t expect bellmen or room service. Luckily, the layout is fairly intuitive. Well, that's good—and thanks for the heads-up. Now, onto the good stuff: Tell us about the digs.Stylish one- and two-bedroom units have a decidedly Portuguese feel, with fabrics, furniture, and artwork collected from around the country. Lovely. And how about the little things, like the mini bar, or the shower goodies? What made your stay more comfortable? The best perks are the Juliet balconies, comfy lounge areas, kitchenettes, and washer/dryers. Yup, gotta love those balconies. How about room service, or the dining options in general? Are there any?Complimentary continental breakfast is dropped off daily at your door in a cloth bag. Also, the Lisboans’ market is in the same building and its restaurant, Prado, is one of the best in town. Oh, great. Did you interact with anyone who actually works here, or...?The owners are charming and engaging—and full of insight on where to eat and shop in Lisbon. Excellent. Any other services or features (or tips!) you'd like to shout out?Sunbathe on your balcony—locals do it all the time. Will do. So, bottom line: What's the reason we're staying here?To live like a (stylish) local." - Jenna Scatena
"The Lisboans is the perfect vacation rental/hotel hybrid: You feel like a local, settling into a one- or two-bedroom apartment that comes with a fully stocked kitchenette (mini-fridge, microwave, stovetop, and the all-important dishwasher) and spacious, stylish digs. But there’s also a Lisboan team downstairs that will give you tips on where to go for dinner; bring you fresh bread, pastries, and juice each morning; and clean your apartment daily. The location is also fantastic—in a quiet residential district between Alfama and Chiado, with plenty to explore in the neighborhood, including the nearby Praça do Comércio. Bonus: The Lisboans is connected to hot new restaurant Prado and Prado’s market, so you can pick up a few grocery essentials next door." - Laura Dannen Redman
"The moment you walk in to The Lisboans, a boutique hotel set in a former Lisbon factory, you feel right at home. That has been the goal of owners Tânia Fonseca and Isaac Almeida from the start: for guests “to not only take with them good memories from their trip abroad, but also from the place where they stayed, their home away from home.” Tânia and Isaac met and fell in love while working as art directors at the same ad agency. They married, started a family, and then decided to create The Lisboans, 15 masterfully, locally furnished apartments. Sharing a love for art, architecture, design, and Lisbon, their main source of design inspiration has been their own home, where they have lived with their two sons for eight years." - Cara Sanders
