The Lismore is a new (new owners and complete overhaul renovation) hotel in downtown Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and what an upgrade it is! It can be pricey at peak times, but off-times are less costly. Either way, this place is WELL worth the money, especially given that its local competition is ho-hum and tired chain hotels. I gave it 5 stars for providing a wonderful respite for weary travelers who are accustomed to city amenities.
The lobby decor is urban-chic, with industrial touches like pipe stair rails, cement flooring, rustic wood accent walls and modern lighting, all of which is tastefully done and reflect a clean and sleek aesthetic.
Shout out to GRANT at the hotel front desk, who not only was exceptionally helpful and informative, but who was personable and friendly as well, assisting us with everything from cookies (and, might I say, YUM while I'm on that subject...chocolate walnut, even warmed up!), and the hotel's mobile app. Valet parking is a steal, completely convenient, and provided by on-their-game attendants.
Guest room accommodations are delightfully contemporary as well, with very comfortable beds and bedding, beautifully appointed bathroom and shower, and easily controllable HVAC system (THANK YOU SO MUCH). As others have commented, a microwave is noticeably absent, so keep this in mind if you're the type to take dinner leftovers back to your room with plans for a hot midnight snack.
The hotel lobby is wide open so at first seems a bit confusing, as the seating area is off to the side of the front desk not in front of the desk as is more typically seen, but upon closer study makes perfect sense as it serves double-duty as additional seating/working/resting area for the new EC-DC coffee shop located without barrier just a few steps away.
EC-DC serves AMAZING coffee drinks and delicious baked goods, and we found ourselves frequenting it several times as we came and went throughout the day. Barristas there were quite friendly and accommodating, and they new their coffee stuff! :)
Also housed in the street-level of the building is the new Informalist restaurant -- a bit pricey but completely delicious fare for breakfast, lunch, dinner or dessert. We have eaten there on several occasions now and have never been disappointed. In warmer months, there is patio seating that is spacious and fun.
On the second floor is The Dive bar. Yes, you read that right. But it's not a dive. It was so named because the pool of the old hotel used to be there. Haha. The bar has all the ambiance and all the fun, with a deck and bistro lights to make it even more so when weather allows.
ONE NOTE: If you like your hotel room dead quiet, make sure you're not located too close to the bar. If you're on 2nd floor, you'll likely hear bar-goers until last call. We were about half-way down the hall on 2nd floor and could hear some mild conversation murmurs, and we weren't there during the weekend which I assume would be even a bit more lively.
All in all, we're ecstatic to have this place in Eau Claire -- a town we travel to or through quite frequently. WELL DONE!
UPDATE and another SHOUT OUT to hotel front desk agent, RACHEL! On our latest stay at the Lismore, she made us feel especially welcome with warm cookies for our group and special help with our room. It's obvious she loves her job, this hotel, and the people she is serving -- what a refreshing change that is from so many other places! :)
