Have just arrived home after a great stay at The Lister Arms to celebrate my husband’s 60th birthday. We love Malham and have visited the area several times. Our room was really nice and very peaceful. Food was very good & it was lovely to relax by the fire in the evening. The staff at The Lister Arm are warm & welcoming and we will definitely be returning in the future.

Lovely building in a beautiful location, but that’s really as good as it gets. For £240 per night one should expect more than the Listers Arms offer. We had no sleep at all on our first night because of noise from a boiler (avoid Room 14!). We were moved into the barn for our second night which was much better, although the cobwebs were a sight to behold. When the passcode on the entrance door did not work I went to reception to be told “not my department, I can’t help you”. The food was disappointing and we will not be returning.

I embarked on a road trip in the Dales with my daughter. After a few nights under canvass the Lister Arms was a welcome bit of comfort. Lovely room( although we were plagued by flies when we opened the window) and comfortable beds. The food, both the evening meals and breakfast, were excellent. The service was very good. We would return.

Our stay at Lister Arms was delightful. It was exactly the small English lodge experience we were hoping for. The welcome was warm, the food was good, and the room was very comfortable and spacious. We did a wonderful 7 mile walk right out our door. The Yorkshire Dales are so beautiful ans definitely worth the trip.

Fantastic base for walking in the North Yorkshire Dales- staff were amazing! (Especially Jonathon, who seemed to be there 24 hours a day!) We stayed in the Barn which had a communal area as well as beautiful en-suite rooms. We had delicious packed lunches provided for our hikes and a warm welcome on our return! Food was delicious and menu extensive- definitely recommend!!!

Beautiful setting in the lovely small village of Malham. Prior to check in I should have done some homework about the types of rooms on offer but at £202/night I expected the better end of the selections. However, we were given a tiny double room that was very tight and neither of us slept well. The following day we saw the room next to us as it was being cleaned and it was about twice the size so we asked to move and we had a much better experience. The gentleman we spoke with was surprised that we had been given the small room in the first place so my advice would be to make sure you know the details of the rooms you are allocated. Having said that the rooms are nicely furnished and very clean. |Breakfast was ok in my view but the full grill needs to be cooked from fresh rather than being plated up from the hot plate - ie eggs, bacon and black pudding way over cooked|Evening meal was again ok but nothing special and in this respect not really value for money

We did not stay at the Lister Arms in Malham but we ate there on 3 occasions - all evening meals. Cannot rate the place highly enough. The staff are great, especially Luke and Jack. The food is delicious, fresh, plentiful and a great menu. Lovely location for a restaurant/pub come hotel. The eating areas are light and spacious - plenty of room and just great for my partner who is registered blind. A definite 10 out of 10.

Yelp
When you've hiked and tromped through the hills and fields of Malham, there is no better reward than grabbing a bite and a brew from the Lister Arms. Originally built in 1723 as a 4 bedroom house, this pub/ bed & breakfast is a the perfect place to get a 'little more than your average' pub fare after a jaunt through the Yorkshire Dales. I was there this past March and enjoyed the rustic atmosphere, the vast beer selection (including Thwaites and Wainright) and some perfectly prepared steak and kidney pie. The staff is pleasant and the service was good. This is one of the few places in the village to get a beer and a bite... and if you're lucky enough to get here in the spring or summer and walk the hills, it's likely that while your dining at The Lister Arms that the families of ducks outside the window will keep you entertained. They certainly kept my attention.

Yelp
Of the two pub choices in Malham The Lister Arms is by far the most stylish - a lovely old building which has been updated so that it retains much of its original charm. There are three "rooms" in the pub area and a separate dedicated restaurant area. We had taken the precaution of booking a table for two in the restaurant area at 8pm on Wednesday evening which was wise as it was a busy evening. We were given a friendly but somewhat harassed greeting by one of the young waiting staff. After a long day walking we were hungry so we made our choices quickly from the well priced, for Malham, and good looking menu which was made up in the main of "pub classics" Sensing that things might be going slight off the rails in the kitchen we ordered a cold starter of smoked salmon in the hope that this might be served relatively quickly while I had the sirloin steak for my main and B went for the gammon with bubble and squeak. I won't drag this sorry tale out but our starter never did arrive, we were offered two sets of dishes destined for other tables and our main courses took over an hour to arrive. When we finally did get to eat our supper it was tasty and well presented (possibly helped by the fact that we had drunk a bottle of wine while waiting). When the guy behind the bar asked if we had enjoyed the meal I mentioned the problems with service: he shrugged and said it was a busy night in the kitchen due to a large number of "walk in" diners. In my naïveté I thought that a booking system was designed to avoid such difficulties and indicate when the kitchen was at capacity point - not at The Lister Arms unfortunately.

Yelp
The Listers is a great pub, with nicer than average rooms, quite modern with a bit of character. Great beers (Thwaites) and lovely food- you get a table in the residents bar/restaurant if you are staying. Big roaring open fire in the Winter, and pretty village, all in walking distance of the awesome Malham Cove, and Gordale Scar, an impressive waterfall crashing through a spectacular rocky cleft. You can take in both in a walk from the pub, with some great views out over the Yorkshire Dales. Book well in advance!! Great weekend away venue, and a more luxurious alternative to the nearby campsite!

Yelp
Impressive building with attractive interior. Small selection of beers of which one was off but no-one had bothered to spin the label around. Staff were universally sour-faced and unhelpful. The woman we tried to give our food order to stood holding a pad of paper but insisted she couldn't take the order and we'd have to return in 10 minutes as orders had to go through "live to the kitchen". We asked why she couldn't write the order down on her pad and take it through in 10 minutes but to no avail. We didn't understand this and walked down to The Buck Inn. I recommend you do the same.
