Such a fantastic hotel. After a couple of glitches with my booking request, which were quickly and efficiently sorted, everything about the Lister Arms speaks of excellence and the overall ethos appears to want to make staying guests feel relaxed and well cared for, and at this they exceeded. Our double room was super clean, very comfortable to sit in and such a comfy bed to sleep in. The power shower was excellent with lovely White Company toiletries. Plenty of tea, coffee and milk, which was provided in a flask. |We ate in the restaurant and the food was really delicious, with great portion sizes. You can tell the quality of the food and great to know they use local suppliers where possible. It isn't the cheapest but is excellent value for money all things considered. Breakfast was just as good with lots of options to choose from. |The stand out for the hotel is the staff. Super friendly and welcoming, efficient and very professional, whilst keeping a relaxed approach. Nothing was too much trouble. They are a credit to the hotel. We will definitely return in the new year...I'm excited to see what is in my discount envelope!!! Thank you all, our stay was just what we needed...lots of rest and relaxation.

It was a Tuesday in late November, we had booked and expected the worst in weather, but we were so lucky, a beautiful crisp and sunny day to walk up onto the limestone pavement. Upon return lovely beer and smashing warm room, shower great too.|We ate elsewhere, but returned for more beer before bedtime.|The breakfast provided a greay variety. I enjoyed the yoghurt and compot, fruit salad, cereal and then scrambled egg with smoked salmon. Our only niggle was the full cooked breakfast, yes it was full, had everything on it but was unfortunately not very warm and the bacon was hard.

We love Malham and having previously enjoyed visiting the Lister Arms, I thought it would be a great place to spend a big birthday.||After a great walk, we enjoyed a beer and checked in. The rooms varied in quality, but all satisfactory. Nice atmosphere in the bar where we enjoyed a pre dinner drink, however the meal itself was disappointing. ||I’m always apprehensive about booking a meal on a Monday night recognising that it may be one of the chefs nights off. Not sure who was in the kitchen that night, but I think they dropped the salt cellar in the veg!||Given that I am now officially old I was happy to head off to bed, whereas the younger members of the family were looking forward to catching up over a few drinks. However the barman, despite being much younger than me, was also heading off for an early night.||Not sure who was in the kitchen for breakfast, but it was delicious.

A lovely county pub with really high quality accommodation . Lovely touches such as home made biscuits and dog treats . Food was delicious and very well presented . Great breakfast too with lots of items such as the granola clearly home made. |One nice fire , although 2 others were not lit .||The only downside was a distinct lack of personal touches from staff . Rather a feeling of an adherence to a company rule book which dampened the experience. In the booking I had specifically mentioned that we were celebrating two birthdays over the night we were staying - one on the day we arrived and the second , a 50 th the following morning . I had asked if there was anything that could be arranged to make this special , received no reply but at check in was told that it wasn’t possible. || In spite of it being very clear at breakfast that there was a big occasion to celebrate there was not even a verbal greeting to acknowledge that and it was the same member of staff who had spoken to me before so was aware . No birthday pudding at dinner , nothing . It was a shame that a pub that prudes itself on giving a warm welcome ( which it did ) couldn’t maintain this to make a couple of people feel a bit special . Personal touches cost nothing and required nothing . ||Minor but equally thoughtless - we were not hurried through dinner, which was fine because we were enjoying ourselves but we had to wait a while to order dessert and were then told tea / coffees weren’t possible because the machine had been turned off. Even though dinner service was still ongoing . Convenience for staff clean down over customer experience ?|| It was also frustrating that it is impossible to contact the pub by phone , and not leave a message , Instead having to rely on emails which do not suffice if urgent .

We had lunch in the bar on a wet Tuesday afternoon. Everything was on point: the initial online booking was very straightforward and we were warmly received by Claire when we arrived. Our meals were really superb with excellent ingredients cooked perfectly. Accompanying wine was also of a very high standard. Overall it was a memorable visit and we would highly recommend The Lister Arms.

We had an amazing stay at The Lister Arms in Malham! The room was cosy and comfortable with lovely exposed beams, and it was wonderfully quiet. The bed was super comfy and perfect for a great night’s sleep after a big walk. The shower was hot with excellent water pressure (very important to me!) and was absolutely perfect. The food was fantastic—the Yorkshire Burger with chorizo jam is an absolute must-try! We also had the fish and chips, beef short rib, steak pie, treacle tart, and sticky toffee pudding sundae, all of which were five-star. Breakfast was one of the best I’ve ever had, with a really tasty fry-up and a great selection on the continental side too. The staff were so friendly and welcoming, making us feel right at home in true Yorkshire style. Not just dog-friendly, but dog-enthusiastic! It’s also perfectly located—you can make it part of a lovely two-hour loop walk taking in Malham Cove and Janet’s Foss. Can’t wait to stay again!

A lovely setting in the village of Malham. Close to some nice short walks. Part of the Thwaites group and I have to admit that another of their hotels we have stayed in was far better than The Lister Arms so perhaps our expectations were not met on this occasion. We only had a standard room which was small with a very small bathroom. I suppose the age of the building dictates that this would be the case. I felt the room needs a little TLC with a touch of paint being the answer. ||The restaurant was fine although I consider the menu to be limited. Strangely, a number of guests adjacent to our table all chose the same meals - Fish & Chips or burger. I felt the portions were over generous. However, the food both in the evening and at breakfast was good.

Came here after an extremely cold and windy hike up to Malham Cove, we walked in and found a table straight away opposite the fire. We ordered our drinks and decided on the steak baguette with chips and peppercorn sauce, and an extra portion of chips. The food was outstanding- really tender steak, best peppercorn sauce we’ve ever tasted and really crispy chips cooked in beef dripping. It was enough between the two of us for lunch, two portions would have been too much as the portion size was decent. The staff were polite and welcoming and we are really glad we came here- will absolutely return here!

Yelp
When you've hiked and tromped through the hills and fields of Malham, there is no better reward than grabbing a bite and a brew from the Lister Arms. Originally built in 1723 as a 4 bedroom house, this pub/ bed & breakfast is a the perfect place to get a 'little more than your average' pub fare after a jaunt through the Yorkshire Dales. I was there this past March and enjoyed the rustic atmosphere, the vast beer selection (including Thwaites and Wainright) and some perfectly prepared steak and kidney pie. The staff is pleasant and the service was good. This is one of the few places in the village to get a beer and a bite... and if you're lucky enough to get here in the spring or summer and walk the hills, it's likely that while your dining at The Lister Arms that the families of ducks outside the window will keep you entertained. They certainly kept my attention.

Yelp
Of the two pub choices in Malham The Lister Arms is by far the most stylish - a lovely old building which has been updated so that it retains much of its original charm. There are three "rooms" in the pub area and a separate dedicated restaurant area. We had taken the precaution of booking a table for two in the restaurant area at 8pm on Wednesday evening which was wise as it was a busy evening. We were given a friendly but somewhat harassed greeting by one of the young waiting staff. After a long day walking we were hungry so we made our choices quickly from the well priced, for Malham, and good looking menu which was made up in the main of "pub classics" Sensing that things might be going slight off the rails in the kitchen we ordered a cold starter of smoked salmon in the hope that this might be served relatively quickly while I had the sirloin steak for my main and B went for the gammon with bubble and squeak. I won't drag this sorry tale out but our starter never did arrive, we were offered two sets of dishes destined for other tables and our main courses took over an hour to arrive. When we finally did get to eat our supper it was tasty and well presented (possibly helped by the fact that we had drunk a bottle of wine while waiting). When the guy behind the bar asked if we had enjoyed the meal I mentioned the problems with service: he shrugged and said it was a busy night in the kitchen due to a large number of "walk in" diners. In my naïveté I thought that a booking system was designed to avoid such difficulties and indicate when the kitchen was at capacity point - not at The Lister Arms unfortunately.

Yelp
The Listers is a great pub, with nicer than average rooms, quite modern with a bit of character. Great beers (Thwaites) and lovely food- you get a table in the residents bar/restaurant if you are staying. Big roaring open fire in the Winter, and pretty village, all in walking distance of the awesome Malham Cove, and Gordale Scar, an impressive waterfall crashing through a spectacular rocky cleft. You can take in both in a walk from the pub, with some great views out over the Yorkshire Dales. Book well in advance!! Great weekend away venue, and a more luxurious alternative to the nearby campsite!

Yelp
Impressive building with attractive interior. Small selection of beers of which one was off but no-one had bothered to spin the label around. Staff were universally sour-faced and unhelpful. The woman we tried to give our food order to stood holding a pad of paper but insisted she couldn't take the order and we'd have to return in 10 minutes as orders had to go through "live to the kitchen". We asked why she couldn't write the order down on her pad and take it through in 10 minutes but to no avail. We didn't understand this and walked down to The Buck Inn. I recommend you do the same.
