To ME, this was the best hotel experience of my life. We had room 1 which may be described as an upgraded room I assume. I say this as in the element we were in which is a historical town. The hotel is just outside the fortress walls and has easy access to the inner portions of the walls with residences, shops and restaurants and with beauty everywhere. Getting back to the hotel, its room, restaurant and complete interior is amazing and a site to see. We look extremely forward to going back to this hotel in the future and will request the same room. I must point out there is a private terrace that is accessed through a window which was my favorite surprise. We also had perfect weather so this always adds to the experience. I wish we stayed there longer.

Wonderful character hotel surround by 80,000 books! I was pleasantly surprised how spacious the room was with beautiful tiles in the bathroom. A building of much history as being an old covent and transformed in such charming hotel. Staff (Lydia and Hugo) are very welcoming and helpful. Location is fabulous. Free public parking is just 7 min away, but would recommend dropping off large luggage and then parking the car. We had a little incident with the extra bed, and my daughter couldn’t use it. She slept with us as we had a king size bed. The hotel was very apologetic and proactively refunded the cost of the extra bed. This reflects the exceptional customer service and business integrity.

This hotel has become well known for being a book lovers haven. The hotel itself is super interesting and each room is different. My friend and I each stayed in different parts of the hotel and had very different looking and feeing rooms. Which means each time you stay there; there could be a new discovery. The hallways and corridors are lined with books. Even if you don't stay here I would highly recommend eating at the restaurant. The food was amazing every time. The only thing I would recommend if this hotel needs more cozy reading areas. They have a couple but they are not the most comfortable places to sit; although they are definitely aesthetically pleasing and fit the vibe of the hotel's history. We spent a lot of time out in the courtyard reading; there's a great spot under a large tree with canvas chairs.

This quaint hotel has a gorgeous theme of books lining all the walls and every nook and cranny. It is a book lovers paradise. It is in an old building so the stairs are a bit worn and the rooms are dated, we had second floor and the bed design was futon like on a raised platform. Great courtyard for a coffee or a drink. Breakfast was lovely and eggs could be made cook to order and were delicious too. We enjoyed an evening meal in the dining room with great service. Wine was a little pricey.

Had a wonderful stay at this hotel! The staff are very friendly and always ready to help, making the whole experience even better. The rooms are nice, spacious, and spotlessly clean. The real highlight, though, is the restaurant—absolutely incredible food and a great atmosphere. Highly recommended for anyone looking for comfort and great dining!

Honestly, the hate on this place in some of the reviews is completely unfounded. We stayed here two nights last week. Is the hotel a little old? Are the rooms a little dated? Could the carpet in the hallway be a little cleaner? Yes. It's a hotel in a historic building right outside of a castle in a medieval town. Are we expecting the look and amenities of a new-build luxury resort? We loved this place. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was wonderful. The restaurant was accommodating and lovely...we at dinner there one night and really enjoyed the breakfasts there. The location is spectacular. It's footsteps from the portal through the city walls and into the old town. We highly recommend this place.

One of the coolest hotels I’ve ever stayed in. Prime location just outside castle wall and very walkable to all the shops and best restaurants. Fun, funky, cozy rooms and a very helpful staff. Beautiful courtyard to sip your glass of Vino Vehrde and read your book. Amazing breakfasts with beautiful pastries and a hotel cat that is precious! All around great vibe!!

Cute hotel, nicely located and reception staff are lovely. The dining room looks amazing with books floor to ceiling and old arches. The books also line up the hallway and really make for a nice vibe. Only downside is our room (17) was quite damp and so smelt damp too. We left the windows open but that didnt work as well as we would have liked.

Yelp
This property would be a great for IG. However, look beyond the shelves full stack of books. The kitchen contains most interesting books about food and wine. I've also found my favorite Planet Earth book, along with space related books. Dining experience is exceptional. The sommelier is very knowledgeable and we not only had good food, we also learn more about the wine region. This place is a bit short staffed but we never had to wait for anything. Prompt and elegant are the two words came to mind as I think back my experience. This is one place I would return and hopefully such hidden gem hasn't been discovered and overwhelmed by tourist!

Yelp
This was a delightful experience. It's tucked away immediately outside the castle walls. As an avid reader I loved being surrounded by books. The food was delicious and the service was very good. We had the Alheira croquettes with garlic Mayo and Mushroom & Cheese pastry (awesome) for appetizers. Main course were octopus dish and filet mignon with cheese sauce (both excellent) and for dessert the salted caramel sundae was amazing. The orange meringue was meh. Wine, espresso & Ginga finished out the meal. Must try if your ever in the area.

Yelp
Love the decor! The filet mignon was very good as were the grilled vegetables. The tuna tatami was underwhelming.... Sea bass marginal. We were thankful to find an open restaurant off season!

Yelp
Amazing hotel in Obidos. This is one of the few "literary hotels" in the world and is such a gem. This hotel was built about 3 years ago but the owners have put a lot of effort into making it a wonderful retreat from the hussle and buzzle of everyday life. The staff did everything to make sure we had a wonderful stay and went above and beyond our expectations. Rooms are spacious yet cozy and provide all the amenities needed. The hotel offers a wonderful common area where you can sit, relax and read! Just pick one of their thousand of books available all throughout the hotel, some books are even available for purchase :) The breakfast is a great perk, served in the "kitchen" area, it offers everything from fresh orange juice, fresh fruits, different kinds of bread, teas, pastries, cereals etc etc. oh and eggs to order! The hotel also offers in-room massages which range from 45min-60minutes in duration. The masuse is very sweet and she leaves you feeling in the clouds. The hotel has their own Book and Cook restaurant as well as Gin Bar; and the location provides access to many other great lunch and dinner options nearby. We had an amazing time and will definitely recommend this hotel to all our friends and family.
