In-Depth Review of the Peninsula Hotel in Istanbul - AFAR

"Lobby restaurant offers a diverse cocktail list celebrating Istanbul's history, as well as elegant pastas by Italian chef Alessandro Santi. It also serves à la carte breakfasts with dishes like Turkish çilbir and signature afternoon tea with foie-gras macarons and jasmine custard choux pastry." - Anya von Bremzen

An absolutely delightful experience from start to finish LThe atmosphere was exquisite, enhanced by the beautiful sounds of the live musicians. The food was divine, and the service impeccable—every member of staff went above and beyond, making me feel genuinely welcome and comfortable. They effortlessly accommodated my needs, from providing alcohol-free options to making minor adjustments for dietary requirements. Their knowledge and attentiveness were truly impressive. We enjoyed Sunday brunch, from 12:30 to 4:00 (if I recall correctly), and the total came to £120—worth every single moment.

The view is amazing, and the food quality is top-notch – the menemen was genuinely delicious. But paying 900 TL for it and then having to wait another 10 minutes for the bread to arrive? Not acceptable. The tea costs 300 TL – probably the most expensive tea in all of Turkey – and yet it takes another 10 minutes to get a refill. I wouldn’t even mind the high prices if the service matched the setting, but unfortunately, guests are easily forgotten. In a place like The Peninsula, I expect attentive and professional service. Sadly, that wasn’t the case here.

It was such a lovely experience. We came here once for lunch with part of the family and two days later we were back with everyone! We traveled to Istanbul for a week and this was the highlight of our visit. Beautiful atmosphere, incredible food and the staff are so accomodating. Even the bathroom was insane with heated toilet seats and a full remote control for the bidet which not only washes but even dries. Wish we stayed here, our hotel staff barely spoke English so we were impressed with those working at The Peninsula. We had dietary requirements they accommodated for, my little sister got a colouring book with her kids menu, we ordered mock tails which weren’t even on the menu, and we received complimentary dessert. It was pretty pricey but was worth it for the overall experience. Highly recommend!

We have visited this establishment several times before, but our last experience during brunch was exceptionally disappointing. Upon arrival, we simply requested coffee and dessert. Despite a significant number of empty tables both indoors and outside, our request was denied with a harsh tone. No alternatives were offered. We were told all the chefs were busy with the brunch, as if chefs are usually tasked with preparing simple coffee! The genuine desire to accommodate a guest, which often distinguishes Turkish hospitality, was entirely absent here. The second major issue was the valet service. We waited for our car for about 15 minutes. During this entire time, not a single staff member approached us to offer a seat or even process the payment; consequently, we simply gave a tip and left. However, the situation escalated into an embarrassment for the establishment: After we had already driven away and stopped at a traffic light, a valet attendant ran up to our car to request payment, as they had forgotten to charge us. This forced us to create a traffic jam while they rushed back to the hotel to retrieve a terminal. This level of unprofessionalism is shameful. Furthermore, I must highlight the total lack of consideration and courtesy, especially given my situation. Even as a pregnant guest, I was met with such a dismissive and harsh attitude, with no empathy or effort to accommodate a simple request.

The lobby at The Peninsula is a delightful dining destination where I thoroughly enjoyed my experience. The food offered here is exceptional, featuring a diverse menu that caters to various tastes and preferences. From delectable appetizers to indulgent main courses and exquisite desserts, each dish is crafted with precision and quality ingredients, making dining a true pleasure. Moreover, the staff at The Peninsula's lobby is exceptionally friendly and attentive. They create a warm and welcoming atmosphere, ensuring that every guest feels valued and well taken care of throughout their visit. Their professionalism and genuine hospitality enhance the overall dining experience, leaving a lasting impression. In conclusion, dining at The Peninsula's lobby is not just about the food; it's about the entire experience of enjoying exceptional cuisine in a setting that exudes elegance and comfort, complemented by outstanding service from a dedicated team.

We went to the Peninsula Hotel for High Tea! The wait staff was awesome! Turkish Tea, coffee, finger sandwiches, sweet and savory desserts, and a beautiful place to sit and watch the harbor.

Really amazing place with so good atmosphere. We did reservation for Breakfast, everything organised well. I’m ordered waffles but they was so hard and so ordinary taste, I can’t say I was satisfied. Staff was so friendly and polite but they bring coffee in dirty cup and when we said this they offered bring new, but forgot about it and we waited extra 20 minutes. As resume I can say it’s nice place, but food very ordinary.
