My family and I recently had the pleasure of staying at Feline Fields in Botswana for the second time, and it was an unforgettable experience. The resort offers two distinct locations: a vintage camp on the Khwai River and a lodge in the Kalahari desert. We spent two nights at the Khwai camp, where we enjoyed thrilling game drives and a serene mokoro trip down the river.||The game drives at the Khwai camp were a highlight of our stay. Each drive was an adventure, offering us the chance to see a diverse array of wildlife in their natural habitat. Our guide, Mandela, was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the local fauna and flora. He had an uncanny ability to spot animals from a distance and provided us with fascinating insights into their behaviours and ecosystems. And nothing beats the early morning coffee break in the middle of nature.||We were fortunate to witness a pride of lions lounging in the early morning sun, a herd of elephants majestically crossing the river, and a group of playful wild dogs. The drives also included sightings of giraffes gracefully moving through the trees, hippos lazying in the rivers, zebras and wildebeest grazing in the open plains, and a variety of bird species that added vibrant colours to the landscape. Mandela's expertise and enthusiasm made each sighting even more special, and he ensured that we had ample time to observe and photograph the animals.||One of the most memorable experiences at the Khwai camp was the mokoro trip down the river. Gliding silently through the water in a traditional dugout canoe, we were able to immerse ourselves in the tranquil beauty of the river and its surroundings. The mokoro trip offered a unique perspective on the wildlife and the ecosystem. We saw many water buffalo along the river banks. The birdlife was abundant, with colourful kingfishers darting across the water and fish eagles soaring overhead. The peacefulness of the mokoro trip allowed us to connect with nature in a profound way, making it a truly special experience.||Following our adventure at the camp, we spent four nights at the lodge in the Kalahari desert. The lodge provided a peaceful environment perfect for relaxation. The amenities at the lodge were exceptional and added to the overall experience. We stayed in the luxurious Family Villa, which featured a private heated swimming pool with a teak deck all around. The spacious suite provided privacy and comfort with a separate room for the kids , making it feel like our own home in the desert.||The lodge also offered a range of activities, including horse riding, a desert sleep out (which we didn’t get to try as we have young kids), game drives, a dinner under the stars and an interactive experience with the local San Bushmen (we did this during our previous visit). We enjoyed resting by the pool, indulging in delicious meals, and exploring the surrounding wilderness. The food was exceptional, catering to our dietary requirements and ensuring that every member of our family was well looked after.||The staff at Feline Fields were outstanding. It was heartwarming to see familiar faces of staff members who had taken on new roles within the camp and lodge. Their dedication and professionalism made our stay even more enjoyable. Special mention goes to Mandela, our guide, who went above and beyond to ensure we had a fantastic trip. Our children particularly enjoyed his company and the horse rides at the lodge.||Overall, Feline Fields provided us with a perfect blend of adventure and relaxation. The exceptional service, beautiful surroundings, and memorable experiences made our stay truly special. We highly recommend Feline Fields to anyone looking for an extraordinary holiday in Botswana.
