Growing up in Pennsylvania, I have fond memories of camping trips to central PA to tent among the towering hemlocks, hiking through trails full of mosses and ferns and fishing in the many mountain streams. I was hoping to find that experience again at Glendorn. It is just like the Pennsylvania woods of my youth. Cabins and hiking trails and ponds/streams. The cabins are far beyond the primitive ones of my youth. They are decorated with upscale rustic furniture, antiques, fabulous bed linens and all modern conveniences. The family that enjoyed Glendorn since the 1920s, have passed it on complete with original touches. The new owner has been true to the original feeling of enjoying family time in the woods of Pennsylvania, but with the luxury of wonderful food, and the most welcoming, accommodating staff you could ask for. The towering Hemlocks, and Eastern Pine are not easy to find anymore, but they are here to experience in a relaxing, quiet location. Activities like tennis, boating, biking, sporting clays and a beautiful pool and spa provide whatever diversions you could want. Breakfast in the beautiful dining room, or delivered to your cabin tucked in the woods. Lunches packed for your daily excursions. Cocktails and canapés before dinner by the huge stone fireplace. Experience the wonder of Pennsylvania of a hundred years ago, but with luxury that a Relais and Chateaux property provides. Food and service could compete for Michelin recognition. A birder's paradise. Make sure to use the sauna, tucked in the woods by a lake.
