We had a wonderful stay at The Lodge at Gulf State Park, Hilton in Gulf Shores! Our family of three (two adults and one child) stayed in a Gulf-side room with a king bed, bunk beds, and a balcony — clean, modern, and super comfortable, with just minor signs of wear. The customer service was outstanding from the moment we arrived. Since we booked through a travel advisor, we were greeted with a delightful welcome gift: a fruit platter, bottle of Chardonnay, chocolate chip cookies, and milk — such a thoughtful surprise! The infinity pool was a hit, and the short walk to the beach made everything easy. We loved the view, and appreciated that other guests left behind boogie boards and pool noodles for others to enjoy — a nice touch! Our stay included a $50 credit we could use at the hotel’s restaurants or convenience store. The breakfast buffet was fantastic, with tons of fresh, tasty options. We also enjoyed the coffee shop, bar, and free bike rentals on site. The entire experience was relaxing and family-friendly. We’ll absolutely be back and highly recommend this spot for a beach getaway!

5-Star Experience! Our stay at this luxury hotel was truly unforgettable. The breathtaking views made every moment feel like a dream vacation. The rooms were spotless, beautifully maintained, and offered a peaceful retreat after a day of exploring. There were plenty of nearby activities, including scenic trails that felt both adventurous and safe. One of the highlights of our trip was the hotel restaurant—the food was absolutely delicious, offering a perfect blend of flavor and presentation. A special thank you to the amazing staff at the Foodctaft: Sterling, April, Heather, Tiffany and Jeff. Their attentiveness, warmth, and professionalism made us feel welcomed and well cared for. The hostess was equally kind and accommodating, making each dining experience smooth and enjoyable. We highly recommend this hotel for anyone looking for luxury, comfort, and outstanding service!

I won't be wasting my time or money on this place. I hesitate to spend a bundle on a room to sleep in, sorry. I don't sleep too well knowing I'm being ripped off. Is it nice? I suppose. Is the area worth exploring? Perhaps. Is it worth unloading my wallet? Uh, no. Resorts are for people who have no desire for value. I'd much rather pitch a tent in an idyllic spot or even sleep in my car somewhere and spend my money where it counts...on the actual vacation...not the lodging, since I'm not there to be pampered in some swanky suite. I'm there to actually experience my surroundings.

I had a terrible experience at this Hilton Hotel. From the moment I checked in, the customer service was far below what you'd expect from a Hilton property. I was placed in a room directly next to the building’s exit door, which slammed shut constantly throughout the night due to heavy foot traffic. I barely got any sleep. When I asked for a late checkout, the front desk woman Sara Bailey rudely told me, “No late checkout for people like you.” I was shocked and offended — completely unprofessional and unacceptable. The good news: the room itself was nicely furnished, but I still had to kill two small lizards in the room during my stay. On the positive side, the location is great — easy access into town — and the beach is quiet and beautiful. Unfortunately, none of that makes up for the poor treatment I received here. I won’t be returning to this location.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay! We utilized all of the on site restaurants and enjoyed them all. The room was clean and updated. The beach access is very peaceful and nice. My only complaint is the check in staff. As a diamond member, we are typically used to the check in staff doing whatever they can to accommodate our request. We simply requested an upgrade, but were told there were not any upgrades. Once we notated availability of upgraded rooms on the Hilton app and that we had spoken with staff on our way in, he then found that there were available upgrades, but not what we had been told over the phone. It was pretty evident upon checkin that Michael was just ready to go home and would not honor the request the person on the phone gave us.

Beautiful beach hotel. Not your typical Hilton in looks or layout, so as we drove up, we were a little confused. Seems very popular with all ages. Lots of activities are nearby for varied interests. The rooms are nice. Loved the bunk beds which ate in many of the rooms. The restaurants serve a variety of food.

I stayed 3 days at The Lodge at Gulf State Park. While checking in I noticed a musty, moldy, mildew smell in the lobby. That doesn't make a great first impression. The lobby itself was beautiful. Lots of places to sit, even a large table with charging ports. The coffee/wine shop is at one end of the lobby and at the other end by the front desk there is a small shop with snacks, souvenirs and necessities. The bar and pool are are very nice. There is also another larger shop by the pool and a snack bar. The fitness room is also by the pool. I booked a king room with a balcony beach view. It was not large but it was just what I needed. The air vent had a panel hanging down, the make-up mirror light didn't work and some of the TV channels were "off-air" during my stay. There was a good bit of rain during my stay but I loved sitting on the balcony reading and enjoying the view of the beach. Don't leave the balcony door open unless you are a big fan of condensation on everything. Unless you have really long arms you have to get out of bed to turn off the bedside lamps. Towels are provided by the pool until 5pm, but they are very scratchy and rough. If that matters to you bring your own. I loved that the pool and snack bar were open late. Since this stretch of the beach is part of the state park it is not very crowded which made the beach more enjoyable. Overall I had a wonderfully relaxing stay at The Lodge at Gulf State Park and will definitely return again soon!

Amazing hotel! I loved everything about it. Everything was mostly convenient and I loved the concept of the separate buildings, it gave it a very cozy, resort feel, and the layout of everything seemed well-thought out. The on-property food service was amazing, including the coffee shop, poolside restaurant, poolside bar, and the luxury restaurant. The design style was beachy and a little bit rustic, which gave it a nice, cozy feel. All of the staff were really nice and the service was great in general. Had a gift shop in the lobby with anything you might want or need, and a boutique with souvenirs and products by the pool. The location of it was great and though it was a little bit of a drive from downtown, overall it felt cozy being in the state park, and it was right by a beach which was really nice, and right across the street from the woodsy side of the state park, with beautiful trails. The pool was great with free towels, a poolside tiki bar, and it has an infinity pool feel, due to the water nice effect of the water falling into a waterfall on the edge. Also had a private business lodge with conference areas, and separate rooms for the people on business trips, and all of this was a separate building from the rest of the hotel rooms. It was overall a great experience with amazing service, delicious food items, and nice views and cozy vibe. I would definitely stay here again!

Yelp
My wife and I stopped in for breakfast this morning. We were going to order off the menu, but we noticed they have a buffet Which had all we were going to order off the menu and a very reasonable price so we did the buffet 100% satisfy highly recommend this place

Yelp
We enjoyed our four-day stay at the Lodge at Gulf State Park resort in the heart of Gulf Shores. Modern and remodeled located right on the beach. Friendly, helpful staff. We arrived off-season, late April/early May. The good news is the hotel is isolated, quiet and private in the heart of the Gulf State Park. The bad news is the hotel isolated, so either dine-in at the hotel or drive. Large ocean-facing outdoor pool with abundant seating. Beach is enormous, and chairs on the beach is rental basis, $45/person/day. Ouch! Next time we'll bring our own...or buy from the local Walmart. Valet parking with in/out privileges, $22/day. Discount for handicap. No EV charging. Breakfast, lunch and dinner dining at Foodcraft restaurant is very good, and the breakfast buffet with made-to-order items is exceptional with fresh berries and fruit, variety of pastries, and beverages included. Wonderful servers. Dine outside patio or inside with bright and airy ocean view. Fine dining for dinner is upstairs in the Perch Bar and Terrace room, Wednesday thru Sunday; expect to pay $100/person depending on wine and drink. We dined once at the Dragonfly outdoor Pool Bar & Grill. I would pass on the bar food. A martini at the bar was $19 plus tax/tip...another ouch. Café for coffee opens 6 am, and refills are complimentary. Nice touch. Water bottle refilling station. The rooms are small and so no room for a reading chair. If you want to read, find a comfortable spot in the hotel. Half the rooms have ocean view; other half have land view. Tips: * Not all rooms are fully modernized. Our friend's room bath was modernized; ours was not. So ask for the most modern room available. * If you receive a daily food/beverage credit, then understand how it works. I lost my first daily credit because I bought a beverage, and the rest was lost for that day. Only charge to the room when you expect to use the full credit, say for breakfast. My protest at checkout was firmly denied. Seems like a gotcha policy. * No microwave, and no indoor bar open late. Despite some gripes, we are planning a return next year.

Yelp
It is just like any other hotel, except it's by the beach. There are lots of flies, and they bite. I got about four bites just on the first day. The food is mid, but expensive. You might as well save your money and go somewhere else.

Yelp
First, shame on us for making a reservation bookended by two local events. We arrived the day before Fat Tuesday, not realizing the parade ended next to the hotel. We departed during a weekend of running events at the hotel/park (last weekend of February). That probably contributed to our inability to get the room we reserved when we made our reservation 10 months prior to our arrival date. The room: We booked a King Park View Room. The rooms on the first floor facing the road/park appear to be a combination of King Rooms, suites, and King with 2 Bunk Bed rooms. When we received our check-in email it showed one room for us to 'pick' from, and it was a bunk bed room. I called Hilton reservations and after an 11 minute call, I was told that was the only available room. When checking in, we asked again, and were told it was the only room. When we were texted by the hotel (or bot) and gave them a 6/10 rating because of the room switch, they followed up with a message about what they could do better, and I said we still weren't happy with the room, there was no response. The room was a bit problematic as there is only one chair and table, so for a 5-night stay, it was challenging to sit in the room and relax without sitting on the bed. The King rooms have an additional chair and possibly another table from looking at the pictures. The one chair, with orange webbing (like the 70's lawn chairs, but without any give) was uncomfortable. The room is serviced every 4 days, so as we were staying 5 days, they came in the day before we left and swapped towels and glasses. You can ask for towel swaps, etc. in-between as necessary. They were short of towels one day we were there as some rooms were waiting for laundry to get new towels. Room was generally clean and pretty well kept. The bathroom outlet is in a small area very near the sink, and there is a lighted mirror, but you'd have to drape the cord behind the sink, or maneuver it into that spot to use it. HVAC worked well and is very quiet, so don't expect it to drown out outside noises. We could hear through walls, but people were quiet overall during our stay in adjoining rooms. The Hotel: Overall a nice setting, but 'Park View' is a bit generous, as you can see the roadside part of the park, and easily walk to it, but to get to the relaxing and pretty part of the park, you'll need to go in 2-3 miles from the hotel. There are free bikes you can use if you download the app. We also had a car, but you'd realistically need to use a bike or car to get to the very nice parts of the park. The patio area and pool were nice. Lots of chairs and a few tables and chairs in the shade. There is a walkway over the dunes to the very soft sand beach. For a fee you can rent umbrellas and chairs, though for the price I'd just go buy them and leave them behind if I was going to spend 2 days or more on the beach. Parking is well documented in reviews - it was 1/4 mile from the middle of the lot to our room door. Not a problem for us, but quite a hike for some. Despite being a non-smoking property, there are cigarette butts around the public patios, so some people are smoking out there. I believe it is also not pet friendly but we did see a couple of dogs in the lobby - maybe just 'visiting'? They are building an outdoor bar area, but for now there is the restaurant and a very small coffee/wine bar. Our hallway was cleaned with a machine each day that left the carpet wet for quite a while. Because of the location it is tough to get things to dry out - towels in the room, etc. take a good day to dry. There are 9 'public' balconies with chairs and tables for those of us in steerage class. They were VERY nice, and not used a lot as most rooms have their own balcony. Internet: Free wi-fi had speeds of 3-4.5 Mbps. Never faster. Service: I previously mentioned they did not return a message after my comment about the room. We also called the restaurant to make a reservation as the online form wouldn't work on my iPhone. They did not return the call either. The workout room was closed on Fat Tuesday to paint the floor in the area outside the room. That meant you would need to head to the park to run/walk. There were thousands of people and hundreds of cars in the park, so that timing was not great. There is a large overhead door in the workout room that would be accessible as well, but it is on the front of the hotel and presumably they didn't want semi-public access to it as parade goers parked all over the grounds of the hotel. The Park: Very nice once you get away from walking alongside very busy roads and highways. The first couple of miles you'll be ingesting some exhaust. Dining: We ate at the restaurant in the hotel for lunch one day and it was very good. We also did finally get through on the reservation site and there was a $30 cancellation charge if you didn't cancel 2-days prior to your reserved time. We also ate at the restaurant in the park that they will s

Yelp
This was my first time staying at the Lodge at Gulf State Park. Check in was very quick and the hotel allowed me to check in early for an extra fee. The hotel itself is very nice especially the onsite restaurant, the pool area, and the bar. However beware that the bar closes at 10 pm. I was slightly surprised by this as it was a weekend night. The location for the hotel is nice and their beach is uncrowded, which is a great thing. However the rooms are subpar. The carpet in the hotel hallway (4th floor) is very stained. Also our room came with a very small table and the chair looked like it was from the 70's, which was very uncomfortable. The bathroom needed some updating as well. The bathroom's only plug is located in a weird area next to the sink and under the hand towel holder. So when you dry your hands that plug is right there. Then there was a long cord that was plugged into the outlet that went under the sink to connect to the magnified lighted mirror. That was very weird to me. The bathroom light switch is also in a weird spot, which is under a towel holder. So in order for you to turn on/off the bathroom light, you have to touch/move your towel out the way. Also the blue paint (accent wall) job in the bathroom didn't seem like it was painted by a professional. The food at the Perch restaurant was great. My only complaint is we asked for the dessert menu and our waitress told us the kitchen was closed. She didn't even let us know the kitchen was closing to give us the option of ordering desserts. The staff at the hotel was nice. From the front desk clerk to the cleaning staff, everyone greeted us and asked how our stay was going. Each day our room was cleaned and the towels were replaced. Also keep in mind, for parking regardless if you valet or self park, it costs per day. Also they will give you beach/pool towels for free, but the beach chairs and umbrella costs $45 for 1 day. All in all, we had a decent stay. I just think it's time the hotel updates the rooms/bathrooms to reflect the rest of the beautiful campus.

Yelp
My expectations were really high, so maybe that's why I only give three stars. It's a nice hotel. No doubt about it, but the layout is very convenient. The parking lot is about a ¼mile walk from your room unless you opt for valet. They do let you park your car in front while you upload your luggage. There are three separate buildings, the lobby, the convention center, and the hotel rooms. The rooms aren't well marked. You walk past some shops and think you've missed the entrance but the very last door leads you to the hotel rooms. I had an oceanside room. The view was fantastic. The lights in the room are dim, especially in the bathroom. I heard it has something to do with the turtles but I'm not sure. There aren't many plugs which is surprising for a hotel that new. The beach views were spectacular. You can watch both sunrise and sunset from your balcony you have an oceanside view. There was a walkway to the beach but it was locked. They did open it up in the morning, though. I was there for a conference. I wouldn't stay there again, but it was not a bad place to be for a day.

Yelp
The staff here are incredibly kind and go out of their way to ensure you are enjoying your visit. I was here on a work trip and have to also compliment them on the food catered to our meeting room (the grits especially was fantastic!). If you're in a hurry, the Dragonfly (bar right next to the pool) can get to-go food orders prepared fairly quickly. The views are stunning, and you're just steps away from the beach. I'm a very light sleeper, so if you're in a room facing the state park, you do get a little traffic noise.

Yelp
We stayed here for three nights over Christmas. The whole hotel is so beautiful. Other reviews mention a long walk from parking but the grounds are so pretty during the walk we had absolutely no problem with it. (It's really not that far). Upon checking in the day before Christmas Eve the check in staff were so kind and the lobby absolutely stunning. There is a coffee/ wine bar in the lobby also. After check in we went to our room and it was just as nice! Bed and pillows very comfi. Bathroom up to date and clean. Patio had a perfect view of the pool and beach. TV worked well with lots of channels as well as WiFi. I felt safe and secure at all times on the property. Very peaceful and serene feel this time of year. I cannot speak to summer time. Pretty much from any point at the hotel you could find a nice lounging area facing the beach with nice chairs and fire pits to hangout. Short walk to beach and showers to clean up and towels. Multiple restaurants on site as well. This hotel is set away from the bustle of the local town on a nature reserve and you can definitely feel the tranquility. Throughout the area you will notice signs about nature preservation. This hotel is also a Leed certified location from what I understood meaning they prioritize recycling and the environment.

Jess F.

Yelp
All around a great resort & we'll be back. Upon first arrival, loved the bar & food options, loved loved loved the pool and seating areas; you're literally on top of the beach. My one complaint is that the carpets could use a good cleaning, but that's me searching for a complaint. Showers everywhere, balconies everywhere, a gift shop... we recommend!

Yelp
This is the 2nd time I have stayed here. I do like the property and the check-in. Kayla for check-in was attentive, recognized my status, communicated the amenities, and was very kind enough to upgrade me. The facility is clean, seems newer, and the staff throughout the property are friendly. Located on-site they have bikes that you can use provided that you download the app. Be aware, the bikes could use a LOT of TLC. When I am back in the area, this will be my go-to hotel. being on the beach, the staff, the cleanliness, the caring attitude, Kayla, and the overall staff are why I would choose to stay here.
google avatar

Kim P.

Yelp
Awesome place to stay if you're looking for quiet, beach front, and next to the state park for biking and walking. They were working on expanding the resort amenities with a lazy river that may be ready next year. But for us as is was perfect!

Judy K.

Yelp
I thank the previous reviewers who left us some "tips" Especially don't be surprised when you enter , the design is deceiving. This entire resort is welcoming from the time you pull up and the valet takes your car. Hannah and Jake were able to honor a request for an upgrade. A gulf view with a king bed balcony was much appreciated. Our room was clean and comfortable. Hannah noticed we were "seniors " and gave us an option to be further from the pool , as this is a kid friendly location. We love the little voices- no problem for us . We opted for the beach umbrella day 1 Yes $45 for the day a little steep... but if you choose a little quiet, there it is . Breakfast was delicious. No need to leave the resort with the restaurant choices, however, many others close by for families. The park across the street has many trails , bikes are available. Thank you to all the staff for making this an enjoyable experience. One more thing .... Great filtered water with refill stations.

Yelp
I did not stay at the on-site Hilton, however I was in attendance for a 2 day conference where we learn how the state park was constructed to be a part of the environment, not tear out the environment to build the building. If you have a chance to go here it is an amazing place. The Alabama coast is a hidden gem. Every time I am in the gulf coast from the Florida panhandle to New Orleans I have a great time and remember how the rest of the country has no idea what Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana have to offer.

Mike F.

Yelp
The overall appearance and attention to detail was great in the lobby and public places (pool, etc.); however, our room was not great at all. There were some fancy touches to the room, but there were many things that made us feel like we were in a $50 motel room than the $400 a night room. Here's a list of what our room looked like; bad coffee stains on the lamp shade, only 1 very uncomfortable chair that was covered in black mildew, stained carpet, big dings and scratches on the walls, the TV was mounted crooked, mildew in the shower, and filthy furniture on the very tiny balcony. I felt like I was treating my son to a fancy weekend...until we got to the room, then I was embarrassed and found myself making excuses for the Lodge. For the price, we found cleaner room options for future trips to the Gulf.
google avatar

Emily A.

Yelp
First time there and the restaurant is beautiful inside. Has an upstairs and downstairs with different menu offerings. We sat upstairs and the view of the gulf is amazing, lots of deck seating that includes tables and couches , plus a fire pit. We ate inside where there were tables, the bar, or couches to dine from. We choose a couch seating and it was super comfy. Our server was the bartender Travis who did a fantastic job of explaining the menu. We choose options off the Tidbites menu. I had the Spanish braised octopus that was amazing! I'd get it again and recommend it to others. The other diners in my party got the pork belly that is on a bed of delta ground grits, they opted to put the spices and tomato jam on the side but ended up loving them. Next time they will get it as it comes and not have the sauces on the side. We all shared the shrimp dish and it was good but was our least favorite, not bad but after the octopus and pork belly, those were hard to beat. There was live music, William sang some great well known songs and played guitar, the volume was perfect for the space. Taylor is the manager upstairs and she was kind, attentive, and knowledgeable. Between Travis and Taylor we didn't wait for refills or even our food for very long. Recommend highly and will take others there in the future to enjoy food and drinks on the deck around the fire pit.

Yelp
So far so good. Room is clean, staff attentive and lots to do onsite. You literally do not need to leave. I love that you can order breakfast in bed via a door hanger. Trying that for tomorrow!

Yelp
We had a great stay at this establishment. The hotel had some construction work going on while we were there, but the front desk employee said it would be done this week. Parking is $10 per day, which I wasn't aware of. Also the rooms have no microwaves and the hotel food is very limited and expensive. The hotel itself is beautiful and in a great location within the park and has great view of the dunes and beach. The rooms feel new and the decor is very modern. I'm excited to see what it looks like when the pool deck construction is done.

Yelp
If you're NOT WHITE, YOUR DEFINITELY not RIGHT or going to be served on a timely basis (you will be ignored)!! Oh wait... they will when the get ready!! I grew up here 35 yrs ago so I expected it to have changed but unfortunately it hasn't!! I am heartbroken ! I love my Alabama but there are still ignorant ugly people and this hotel hires them!! So many more stories that I can post about but this one was the one that hurt the most ‍‍‍ They complained about our music (it was not loud, it was just in Spanish) but completely ignored the marijuana smell in the hallway!! Sad to say, never again will I stay in this Hotel!! Heartbreaking to the point I cried!! All I wanted was to spend it with my elderly Mother on the anniversary of my father's death anniversary !! Respectfully, A Heart Broken Customer

Triston C.

Yelp
The hotel is beautiful, with an amazing view of the beach. The room was very clean too. Only complaint I have is there are no microwaves and no complimentary breakfast, but its a beach hotel so oh well.

Debbie F.

Yelp
Would not stay here again. Layout of the Lodge buildings make for a lot of walking. Guest rooms are very far away from where guest parking is and unless you are willing to pay additional fee to valet park, on top of the regular parking fee per day, then be expected to tip on top of that, then it will get old and tiring fast if you leave the Lodge several times a day. We had issue with in room refrigerator not working and A/C making a noise that kept us awake at night and it dripped water on the carpet in the room. They also do not have luggage carts available at the entrance for guest to use to take their luggage and belongings to their room. They do have bellman ready to unload your car and they have a cart to use, but then of course you feel obligated to tip them. Just feels like the whole place is set up in a convenient manner so guest need to tip, tip, tip. Tip to use valet because the parking is so far away. Tip to use bellman because luggage carts are not accessible for guest to use themselves. Tip on top of the overpriced food in one of the restaurants. They only have 3 handicap accessible parking spaces in front of building so when one is not available you have to use valet instead to park your car so you don't have to walk 3 football field lengths from your car to our room. Which makes it very hard on elderly guest and those with disabilities.

Yelp
We came to this hotel for a getaway. The hotel and the amenities are beautiful. Everything has a very appealing asthetic & is kept fairly clean. All the staff that we had an encounter with were extremely hospitable. They always made eye contact with you and they were very welcoming/respectful. It's right in the middle of the state park so there is plenty to do as far as going right on the beach, walking trails or even renting bikes. There are restaurants on the premises and a small coffee shop also that looked very good. We recieved a room with 4 bunk beds. We originally were supposed to get 2 rooms but there was a miscommunication & just ended up with the bunk beds, which was fine because we fit comfortably & the retreat we went on was paid for so we really had no complaints. The only issue we had with our room was the sink would not drain properly. Other than that, everything was great and I would recommend this hotel to friends & family. It's located in a great area & not far from things to do.

Jon F.

Yelp
I'll start by saying that before you judge this review as too critical, we paid $775 a night - A NIGHT - for this property. That's Four Seasons money. That's Ritz-Carlton money. So keep in mind this is top dollar. Design of the property is nice and location is great. That's the only reason for two stars instead of none. Cleanliness is atrocious. This time we had dirty children's toys in the drawers and refrigerator; used event maps in the night stand; pubes and hair in the bathroom and shower (yuck!) and get this... Oreos in the top bunk. Oreo cookies. And not just crumbs, but whole cookies. Someone had eaten Oreos in the top bunk (no judging here), but the linens were never changed!!! Disgusting! Let me say that I am a long-time Hilton Diamond member, and I trusted that Hilton was a step or two ahead of the other chains in COVID disinfection and cleanliness. If they're not changing sheets or even wiping down a bathroom, how can I trust that other sanitation measures are being taken?!? It's unfathomable that on a vacation, we should have to purchase our own cleaning materials and spend vacation time cleaning what should already be done. In short, we paid Ritz Carlton money for Motel 6 service. Inexcusable.

Yelp
We added a night to our stay and they gave away our ocean front room that we booked 5 months in advance, we asked to be moved and they said they couldn't accommodate us, although someone in our party had the same problem and they gave them a room. We've asked 4 times to be moved and same thing every day. Walking to elevator we have seen at least 3 ocean front empty rooms just on our floor...one being right across the hall from us.If you stay at this hotel do not stay on park side, traffic noise is so bad you'll not be able to sleep. When we got to our room we noticed a lot of hair on floor from previous guests, we finally got that cleaned after the 3rd time asking. Promised water in our room every day and still haven't got that either , at this point I would not recommend you staying here unless you want to pay top dollar for average service. We come here and have about 17 rooms and apparently they can't accommodate people who book 6 months in advance. Management didn't really care to help us at all. And apparently if you like smoking weed all good, stay on the park side where you can't sleep, because at least 5 balconies on our side were smoking nightly...smell in hallway was horrible too! The night manager laughed at the incident . I will contact corporate. I guess I should mention 3 ice machines were out of order during spring break...enjoy your stay!

Yelp
Wow what can I say besides find another hotel!!! Starting with when we checked in asking for daily service to Our room and then having to ask for it over and over again...never received it until the day before we check out. The bathroom is dark!!! No doing make up in the bathroom even with the terrible small makeup mirror they have. No microwave and the smallest fridge I have ever seen. I will say the employees for the most part are very nice and go out of their way to speak. Pool is way to small for the size of the property. I would suggest using the valet parking because the parking lot is a very long walk to the hotel rooms!

Yelp
Been here twice in last two years. Staff and cleanliness is top notch. Beach access is great, not too crowded. Pool is great. Safe environment for families.

L. T.

Yelp
The location is great. The pool area and beach access are wonderful. The pool can be a bit crowded in the summer but that is expected. There are walking/biking trails and restaurants.

Yelp
I figured it would be interesting to see how a flank steak (fajita meat) is slow cooked at a Hilton resort. We were drinking so didn't want to drive. The flank steak was cooked rare. In NOLA we would be embarrassed to serve this thing. My wife had the shrimp and grits (spellcheck put shrimp and gross ) which pretty much summed it up. A nice resort with multiple high end restaurants that were really sub-par. One would be better off ordering a pizza before the 2am closing of papas.

Yelp
Natali at the front desk was very helpful and assisted me with locating a shipment and gave me some help remedying a reservation and billing issue. I was surprised that the other person who helped when I checked in did not offer me an Hilton Honors Diamond upgrade to the Gulf Side. The guy next to me during checkout was. However, I was given a room without an ocean view or deck at the end of the very long hallway. It's not a big deal but just like to mention. The mask wearing requirement by Hilton (inside) was largely Ignored. I was surprised because while I was there, I watched a news article that said Alabama has one of the lowest vaccination rates in the country. Again, not a big deal to me (I am vaccinated). I wore my mask in the elevator, but many others did not. It was sometimes too crowded and so took the next one. I was at a hotel in Miami last week and there was a two person minimum in the elevators, but many customers ignored it. The complimentary continental breakfast was awesome. It was more than a bargain.

Yelp
I guess my expectations were too high. I can only describe the hotel as chaotic. First, the lobby is in its own building and then you have to walk outside and walk a long distance outside to get to the elevators. There is not signage to help guide you, you'll just have to ask passing employees if you are going the right way. Second, the hotel is not accommodating. I am here for a work conference. The conference ends at 12:30 and, since check out is at 11, I requested a late check out. I was told that, unfortunately they couldn't do that. I suspect it is because they have so many difference events, conferences, etc going on at the same time. However, I have a problem with them approving the times for the conference, and then staff not being accommodating to the attendees of the conference. I am going to have to miss the last part of the conference bc of this. Beds were very comfortable once you arrived to your room following a trek from the lobby, walked outside, down a breezeway to the elevators, and down the long hallway. I was ok with the distance because I'm fairly young but it would not be ideal for older or handicapped individuals. The comfortable beds were not enough to compensate for the rest of the experience. A disappointment for a 4-star hotel.

Kelly W.

Yelp
Best hotel for families traveling to Gulf Shores! Right on the beach. Nice pool and restaurants on site. Renting chairs and umbrella was easy. Beds were comfy and rooms were so quiet. Didn't hear a peep and slept well. AC worked really good, staff was friendly, nice lobby with games. The ONLY thing that would make it a perfect score would be not having to pay the $10 for self parking but not a huge deal. Def would come back and recommend!

Yelp
I don't generally love modern hotels. I like the old kind, but those are disappearing and being replaced with high-rise condos. A hurricane hit this lodge hard years ago, but I'm thankful for this thoughtful rebuild. Only three floors, it keeps the population to a level where people can enjoy the beach and marshes without being too crowded. The lodge is in a state park. Nods to that include the external hotel lights being turned off at night to protect nesting turtles. Rooms either face the Gulf of Mexico or the marshlands on the other side. Herons on one side; gulls on the other. Beach access is via boardwalk. The lodge has an on-site restaurant, as well as a coffee shop and poolside bar. Rooms are decorated with a nod to old Florida ~ travel posters and deco clocks. Bathrooms are spacious and pretty. Bikes can be picked up at the lodge and ridden throughout the state park trails. An activity sheet detailing things like lectures and tours is available at the front desk. There's plenty of room for sitting and contemplating life with a beach breeze in your face. Handsome likes the balcony room over the pool ~ easy to watch over the pool. Why only four stars? The $10/day parking charge. Free parking would be a welcome amenity!

Yelp
Stayed here for a week in November before COVID numbers started to spike again. The Lodge is a gorgeous beach hotel on a natural preserve, with amazing ocean and inland views. It's a few minutes drive out of town and not up against other resorts, which makes it seem more peaceful. There's free bike rentals and a few nice restaurants on-site as well as affiliated restaurants off-site in the preserve. Diamond level membership with the Hilton Honors program gets you a decent discount on breakfast at one of the restaurants, which was very nice and had outdoor seating options looking over the ocean. COVID precautions were moderate. In early November, I did see quite a few guests not wearing masks in public walkways between outdoor buildings; whether this matters much depends on your comfort level, as passing someone outdoors maskless is obviously lower risk than indoors. Staff seemed mostly to be wearing masks, but I did see some of the housekeeping with their masks off when we walked past rooms in the process of being cleaned. Front-line staff such as front desk and waiters interacting directly with customers all seemed to be taking excellent precautions. The one thing that kept this from being a 5 star stay was the housekeeping. I would text to set up housekeeping daily, and I would receive replies that our room would be cleaned. We would then go out for the day but when we came back, the room had not been cleaned. This happened two separate days during our 6 night stay. There's something special about coming back to a hotel to a nicely made bed, and this is an area the hotel could definitely improve upon. All in all, would definitely stay again.

Yelp
Great hotel and friendly staff. It's not a Ritz-Carlton but you don't pay as if it was. We had a room with a king and a buck bed for our kids. It was spacious and clean. Be sure to drop your bags off at the lobby before parking since it's a trek to the rooms from the parking lot. The beach was clean and well maintained. The beach has a toy share bin where we left all the sand toys we different want to take back home with us. I wish they had a microwave in the room or at least one in a common area guest could use. It would be nice if the pool was heated or if they had a hot tub because it gets too cold to swim after the sun sets in the spring. All in all, we'll be back

Yelp
There is work being done on the beach, and it is noisy. All potential visitors should have been warned; even 24 hours notice would have been sufficient to change our plans. There is constant VERY loud noise from the bulldozers working on the beach. You know that beep-beep-beep-beep that heavy equipment makes when in reverse??? Well imagine that 24/7, so loud that a white noise machine will not drown it out. Numerous bulldozers, making clankity noises going forward and the beep-beep in reverse. Never ending, for 4 days now! I cannot enjoy my balcony with an ocean view, I cannot access the beach, I can't even relax. The management offered to move me to the street side. Well that is not what I came here for; I came here to relax and be on the ocean, to walk the beach, to watch the sunset from my balcony....Not to be looking inland. I could have done that in Iowa, for far less money. It is New Year's Eve weekend/week. Some of us cannot afford to laugh off a terrible vacation. Meanwhile, as mentioned by others, you have to pay to park far away from your rooms, there is no microwave, and you simply cannot see properly in the bathroom (very low lighting). The food options are awful; some of the worst food I've ever had. It'd be nice if there was a microwave--I could go to the grocery store and get a frozen meal that would be better than anything that they served me here. I stay at Hilton properties often, I have no issue with Hilton; I do have issues with this place and how very poorly this situation was handled. I am not the only unhappy visitor----all I need do is get on an elevator and everyone complains to each other about this situation; I've heard some pretty sad stories.

Yelp
Everything about our stay was wonderful!!! I am very particularly about where I stay and the amenities. The staff was so kind and helpful. The lodge was clean and loved it was just a short walk to the beach. They had everything available we needed. the restaurants were clean and the food was really good. The food is priced equivalent to nicer restaurants. Loved the access to the large land clean pool, outdoor bar, and state park access just across the street. Did miss the microwave a little and lack of lighting in the bathroom Will definitely be back!!

Yelp
I spent four nights at the Lodge at Gulf State Park Hilton in August 2021. It's situated in Gulf State Park right on the beach and it's modern in a nice setting. I was very happy with the amenities including the seating at the beach, the pool and pool bar, and the fact that my King Room had a small concealed refrigerator in it. All employees I interacted with were friendly except for the Saturday morning towel lady. She was not friendly. When you check in they ask if and when you'd like housekeeping service. I checked in on Thursday and was leaving Monday so I requested housekeeping on Saturday and Sunday because I had two events to get ready for and knew I'd be shedding a lot of hair and products in the bathroom. On Saturday I never did receive housekeeping even though I was out of the room for about 4 hours (10-2) in the middle of the day. On Sunday when I returned to the hotel at around 2 after having been gone about 5 hours I still hadn't gotten housekeeping so I politely asked the woman on my floor if she could clean the room and I would go hang out on the balcony. She did and by that point I definitely needed more towels etc. My only complaints would be there were a few stray hairs in the bathroom when I first checked in and some spots on the duvet. I can deal. The only other drawback is as many others have mentioned...the parking situation. The parking is a far walk from the rooms if that's something that's difficult for you. For me it's not that I can't walk but I was in town for a wedding for the weekend that had two events. The night of the first event when I was all dressed up I broke a sweat on the way to the car because it's a long walk and it's obviously hot. The solution would be to pay extra for valet parking but honestly if you've walked all the way to where the valet is you may as well just keep walking to the lot. Also, the room and everything in it felt damp. The two times I got in the pool and hung up my swimming suit to dry it was not dry after 24 hours. Perhaps you might think I'm judging a little too harshly but when you're paying $300-$400 per night in Alabama your expectations are a little higher.

Yelp
I wasn't sure what to expect, but my experience was outstanding. Not only are they friendly, but the site is 10/10. Though it's not all that attractive from the roadway - don't be fooled. It's a very comfortable and cozy space. Ocean views from the interior are clear and plentiful. There are multiple balconies and beachside decks to take in the fantastic view. There is a strip of "no-go" (natural) sand dunes between the lodge and the beach, so privacy is good (there is an elevated walkway to the beach). The room was very clean and comfortable. You will do a little bit of walking from the lobby to your room, but it's a beautiful walk. The parking lot is a short walk, but convenient and easy. Best of all is a walkway over the busy beach road to a nature area that is clean, well-organized, beautiful, and first class. I can't recommend this place enough.

Yelp
Great trip to get away for a few nights! The beach is pristine. Husband and I opted for the $45 third-party service for two chairs/umbrella one day to avoid lugging our stuff to the beach and back -- worth it in my opinion. Room was clean. Every meal we had at a Lodge restaurant was delicious. Overall, it was a great stay and fantastic experience.

Yelp
We are doing the Great American Loop and had a maintenance issue with our boat that put us in need of a hotel to stay for almost 3 weeks. We figured we will try to get a hotel by the beach if the price allowed it. We wanted to be close to the boat yard that is doing the work on our boat so we looked around this area for hotels and prices. We have always had a good experience with Hilton Hotels and this Lodge was reasonably priced. We came in to check out the hotel before committing to be for 3 weeks in it. All it took was one look at the hotel and we knew we wanted to be here. The hotel is situated on Gulf State Park, in Gulf Shores, Alabama. The hotel is right on the beach, with the Gulf of Mexico on one side, and 3 lakes on the other side. It is surrounded by a natural landscape, as when they built the hotel they wanted to respect the Gulf State Park. The hotel is only 1 year old and it was built to meet LEED and FORTIFIED standards. So the hotel is a green hotel in all the different aspects. They have signs all around the hotel educating us about it. The hotel was built to take advantage of its espectacular setting. Half of the rooms have views to the Gulf and the other half to the Lakes. Every seat in the different dining areas have views to the water. There are lots of seating areas to relax and enjoy the surroundings, outdoor and indoor. There are plenty of common areas to socialize or just to relax. The decor of the hotel was done to fit perfectly in its surroundings and with very good taste. The rooms are modern and comfortable with all the Hilton standards that we are used to. Our room, 306, overlooked the Gulf and was very roomy and clean. There is an outdoor swimming pool and a fitness center. There are 2 restaurants on the premises that are open to the general public as well, and plenty of locals come to enjoy them. There is also a small bar that serves coffee, tea, wine, beer and liquor. The lobby has a gas fireplace with lots of seating around it. There is a large table perfect to play the many table games that the hotel allows it guests to enjoy. There is a convention center. There are bicycles to explore the State Park. There is a shuttle that serves the State Park. The Pier is next to the hotel and is a fun place to admire the marine life. We paid for the meal package which includes the buffet breakfast and it is an excellent deal. The buffet breakfast is a very nice one, with a large and fresh selection and it includes an omelette station. We were very pleased with our stay here and will recommend it to anyone and we will come back!!! NOTE: Keep in mind that this is not your average corporate hotel but a hotel located in a State Park and therefore it is respecting the ecological standards. For this reason everything the hotel does reflects this (and also it was built on this premise)! You might not get all that you are used to in a regular hotel, yet you get to support the State Park's health. It helped us a lot to read the many signs around the hotel to understand and support its philosophy!!!!

Yelp
Excellent! Clean, cozy, beautiful location! On the beach and close to nature at the same time. Butterflies everywhere! Family hotel and also for couples like us. The Lodge at Gulf State Park is amazing! We went a tad off season in mid October so it wouldn't be as busy. The downside to that is a few of the restaurants had just shut down for the season. But if you search around the area there are more places to eat. There is a restaurant that is open all day though that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Dinner needed more options on the menu but breakfast and lunch were great. You can do breakfast out on the large deck overlooking the ocean. We had the Grouper sandwich for lunch....it it was so amazing delicious! The beach was very clean with white sand and lots of protected areas with natural plants that grow there around the hotel. This is a special hotel unlike any I've been to. They are all about protecting the land, and keeping the nature clean. The beach is pretty private and quiet! If you are a SMOKER....you probably won't want to come here though. They have a strict non-smoking policy near or on the hotel premises! So please people....don't even try smoking on the balconies. The park across the street is gorgeous and has a walking wood deck that runs all the way from the hotel, across the street, and around the park and lake. Very family friendly area. They also have paddle boarding, and other things to rent at the park if you want to go boating around in the large lake. The hotel has nice staff that are very accommodating and helpful. Great price for all what you get at this hotel for being directly on the beach. If you want to stay away from the pool area, request a room in the last building away from the main building. I have to give a quick shout out a great restaurant just 1.5 miles down the street. Pier House Orange Beach at: 22703 Perdido Beach Blvd, Orange Beach AL. They have fantastic food!!! Go there is you feel like going out for a great dinner. They have an extensive menu and the environment is modern beachy, and clean. A must if you visit the area! We will be going back to the Lodge every year is not twice a year. We loved it!

Yelp
Just wanted to take the time to give Jonathan at the front desk some credit. Stayed in this hotel for an extended period of time, and he was definitely a great liaison between myself, my company, and the hotel. If I owned a hotel, I would hire him to be the manager. Thanks Jonathan.

Yelp
Jaundiced business traveler, jaundiced no more. I do not ladle praise on hotels. I do not give away my affection easily. But this is a hotel I could easily love. First thing's first. The Lodge is a bit of an architectural gem on a pristine stretch of beach far removed from the garish high rises and t-shirt shops. If that's what you're looking on, just keep going. Instead, this hotel is designed and built with its surroundings in mind, reflecting the colors and sensibilities of the surrounding landscape. Second, the interiors are nice and restful. Not in a retirement community kind of way--or a Big Sur spa kind of manner, complete with yoga mats--but just in harmony with what a beach should be. Lots of places where you can be by yourself, taking in the horizon of the Gulf. The rooms are well considered. Everything works like a charm. The staff from the desk clerk onward were all cheerful and eager to please. Dining on site is also good. At night, the bar has an superb veranda. Even on a cool February weekend, there were fire pits galore in the lee of the wind, so we could enjoy convivial talks with strangers saying truly witty things. No idea on the pool. Did I mention were here in February? But it looked really fantastic. Only drawback to an otherwise terrific property: Parking. Not that there isn't plenty of it. Rather it is a slog to reach your car. The campus is long, so if your room is at one end of the hotel, you probably have a quarter-mile of walking ahead of you. So you better not leave anything in your car or you're going to get in some exercise. It's really a pain, especially with only one luggage cart to go around. But that's minor. I literally cannot recommend this place enough. It's not the Ritz, but who cares?

Debra B.

Yelp
$500 a night for a room and there were no luggage trolley carts at all...not any. I had to chase down the front desk attendant who kept walking away as I said "sir, please excuse me, sir, Sir!" And the humidity in the rooms (all of them, not just ours) was so bad that a towel that I hung up in the bedroom was still soaking wet 5 days later. My husband's pills in his container of thyroid medicine melted. I turned the temperature down to 70, but the AC does not seem to control the humidity whatsoever. And no, we had no open windows to let in humidity... Both restaurants in the hotel are nice... But I can stay someplace else and go eat at one of those restaurants next time! Hard pass on this place!

Yelp
I would recommend this hotel! It's quite nice, up to Hilton standards. It is also directly on the beach which is great. The prices are really reasonable. The hotel is attached to a conference center (which is why I was there). There's 2 restaurants inside, which is convenient. The hotel also has a really nice poolside lounge area. My room, a standard double, had a balcony overlooking the ocean which was great. No issues with service or cleanliness. Housekeeping is optional during the pandemic, and most guests were wearing masks in all common areas. I would recommend!

Yelp
absolutely loved staying here! we ended up here at 1am looking for an open room after our horror airbnb experience. even in the middle of the night the staff was very sympathetic and helpful. our room was very clean, we had zero issues. the view was absolutely beautiful!!! even on the bay side of the hotel. we loved the pool and the super easy access to the beach. we ate at perch and were highly satisfied!! the bell staff was very helpful and friendly during check-out. we will definitely be back!

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised with my stay at this Hilton property. From the hotel lobby to the fitness center, path to the beach, and more, the details made this stay memorable. After re-opening in September (the property originally opened in the 1970s, but was destroyed by Hurricane Ivan in 2004) it seems like not many people have heard of it yet. My stay was quiet, which was just what I needed. The balconies on each level (2) are the perfect place to relax and watch the sunset. The pool looked wonderful, and the fitness center was more substantive than most. With a couple different restaurants on property, you will have plenty of options if you get hungry. I stayed in a basic level king room, and was impressed with the spaciousness and beautiful bathroom. The decor was beach chic and minimalistic. My only complaint was the power outlets: they are upside down and made it impossible to charge my phone with my regular adapter. This hotel is meant to be a sustainable method of tourism, and it shows from the compostable to-go silverware, to the in shower body wash, shampoo and conditioner, and the pens made from old newspapers. I absolutely loved my stay on the beach here and the helpful staff, and will definitely return!

Yelp
$344/night and we're changing out our own bedding! Agree with previous post about spotty service. We ended up getting bedding and changing it out ourselves. Watch the scam getaroom.com does! They had phone number on the Hilton/lodge's website-then pretend to be Hilton. You end up not getting normal booking protections and points for your stay. Another crappie part of the Lodge is they advertise free bike rentals, but don't mention that it doesn't include kids (16 and under aren't allowed to use) and each user MUST have a smartphone. No desk, just a tiny table and very uncomfortable chair in room (looks to be made of seatbelts (no cushion). No microwave. There were more serious problems with this place but this is enough for now.

Yelp
After staying a week at a less than subpar condo, we checked in here for one night to catch a flight the next day. I'm only bitter we're only here for one night, after wasting the whole trip in the other place. It has a more secluded feel, being only 1.5 miles away from where we stayed on the strip. The design/decor is modern contemporary and the natural scenery and ocean views are gorgeous. Everything is clean and SMELLS SOOO GOOD! I didn't realize our previous condo and rental car smelled so horrendous until coming here. We're required to come to GS every year and will definitely book here in the future since price is comparable to a beach condo. Our room had a queen bed w/ bunk beds for the kids so not as roomy as a 2 bd/2 ba condo. That might be an issue if we stay more than 3 days. We had a bottom floor balcony, located reside the pool area so not much privacy but still.... Parking is a little inconvenient and far from room. Expect a good hike. Neat shops and the bartender @ The Perch fixed a drink although they closed 15 minutes prior. Nice staff! This is a hidden gem and worth the money. ****update**** You can hear conversations in the hallway, almost word for word. It's 12:30 am and a loud group stood outside our door talking and woke up everyone in our room. About an hour earlier, someone played loud profane music in the halls....like really loud. We were awake so we didn't get too worked up but still...something you wouldn't expect here. Loved the music and the beach atmosphere we experienced all week but we expected this to be more peaceful. Not all the hotels fault. Some people just don't know better.
