If you're expecting a luxury resort, this is not for you. The accommodations are nice but rustic. Meals were plentiful and good, but not gourmet. Likewise, the beer and wine were good, but not great. There's an excellent group of naturalists who are eager to share their knowledge and experience with you. Daily activities were interesting. The best part was the other guests who were there. We enjoyed our stay, but once was enough.

We loved it here! We had our big summer family vacation here, and it was perfect. We had 16 people from 1 to 70, and it was good for all of us. The setting was beautiful and packed with wildlife: fish, rabbits, snakes, frogs, birds (roseatte spoonbills, painted buntings, and flamingos most notable), deer, armadillos, and raccoons. There was a variety of activities: birding outings, a swimming pool, bikes, beach outings, fishing, and kayaking, all made very smooth and easy with the knowledge and helpful naturalist. Every meal was delicious and made and served by wonderful staff. I hope to be back. Oh, and packing was so easy. They had sunscreen, towels, bug spray, rain gear, beach toys, beach chairs, umbrellas, fishing gear, and most anything you would usually have to lug to a beach vacation.

We attended the Bird Migration Program. This unspoiled barrier island is a magical place ! The naturalists and the guest ornithologists were an absolute highlight along with the phenomenal birding. We were well taken care of and enjoyed every aspect of the stay and amenities offered ! Keep in mind this is an aging lodge and buildings so "rustic elegance" is definitely accurate. We did report a torn screen on our slider that hopefully got fixed after we left as he mosquitos are a real menace. The Lodge does all it can to help keep you as comfortable as possible. The mosquito is part of the ecology of the island so plan to just roll with it. The food is good, not gourmet. The bed was adequate. The furniture was worn and dated. The waitstaff could be a little more affable. With that being said, between the fantastic , fun, knowledgeable naturalists and the island itself, with all its flora and fauna, visiting and staying more than makes up for any shortcomings in accommodations and food.

Google
A terrific experience for the whole family. The naturalists at LSSI share lead many different excursions and readily share their wealth of knowledge and experience with the guests. The lodge provides bikes to enable exploration of its numerous bike paths. The blind at Norm's pond overlooks an active heron rookery. No need to bring bug spray because the lodge provides both bug spray and sun screen. The pool is warm and comfortable. No TV, however, the naturalists provide an evening lecture. WiFi is available. Bring your binoculars, bathing suit, and an open mind. With luck you may even see an Armadillo!

We went for the Birding Weekend, and it far exceeded our expectations. The naturalists were fantastic, and the food was amazing. You don't get to choose what you eat but I never had a problem with that because everything was delicious. I even ate the greens which I normally don't like. The staff bent over backwards to meet our needs and desires. It is pricey, but it is worth saving your money for if you are a nature lover. The expanse of pristine feeling nature was amazing, especially at the beach.

WOW! Just back from our 3 nights there. Wonderful food. Extremely knowledgeable and entertaining staff. Excellent adventures. What an array of wildlife to observe and photograph. Wading birds, shore birds, song birds, gators, armadillos and rabbits. A rattlesnake and a ribbon snake even made appearances along the road. The Tom House was perfect for my wife and me. Even has us thinking about our own outdoor shower. There is an inside one too!! There was enough of a breeze to keep the mosquitoes away. What got near us were deterred by our permethrin clothing and bug sprays. We are already planning our next trip.

We really enjoyed our time on the island. Staff is so kind and very knowledgeable. Also it is incredibly peaceful. the naturalist activity is beautiful. There is so many beautiful birds all over the place. Also every staff member is really caring for the ecosystem there and truly enjoy being out in nature.

Husband and I had a perfect stay at LSS to celebrate a wedding anniversary. There were so many options for activities and we really liked exploring with the naturalists, who clearly love the island and are excited to share about animals, plants, and all sorts of interesting things. Beach trips, hiking, truck safari, and we did some lazing around, too. Meals were wonderful and we ate plenty! We really liked how dark and quiet it is at night - so peaceful. We're planning to come back next year to celebrate our next anniversary.

Yelp
This review is based on two visits -- 2019 and 2020. Here's the summary ... The good news: 1. Extraordinary food. Simply the best. 2. Very nice and helpful employees -- from Chef Mike to maintenance fellow John. Really good people. 3. Beautiful environment 4. There is a lot to do. Well, the less than wonderful: 1. During our second visit our room was quite dirty, the floors in particular. 2. The bugs. Ooooh. The bugs. They'll carry you away. 3. While the prices are fair, particularly given the cost of running such an enterprise on an island -- the fees and taxes are really nasty.

Yelp
Can't get on the island without a vaccine or Covid test. No thanks!!!! I'll visit somewhere other than North Korea island.

Yelp
The food here was phenomenal. I was very pleasantly surprised. I was shocked by how well the chefs mastered family style meals. I spent one night on Little St. Simons and loved every minute of it! Super relaxing and lots of fun. For lunch we were served roasted lamb with a delicious pureed sauce, horseradish mashed potatoes, and grilled vegetables. For dinner we started with a great little strawberry salad with gorgonzola. The entree was my absolute favorite- shrimp and grits. The dessert was pecan pie which was so homey and delicious. For breakfast we had my other favorite- eggs benedict which was served with fruit, oatmeal with raisins and cinnamon, and asparagus. I was in heaven!

Yelp
Best dinner we had was at The Lodge's steak house Colt's. Make sure to give it a try and don't miss out on the Banana's Foster prepared at your table. We enjoyed the steaks & salads too.

Yelp
My family just had a reunion on this island. I planned the reunion with the help of Shana and she was so prompt, had great attention to detail and really helped our large group have a fantastic time. The island is beautiful in pictures, but the pictures don't even do it justice. It's a beautiful place and the naturalist guided activities teach about the environment and natural habitat. Special kudos to Nate and Ben, who were so kind and informative. The food is incredible. Chef Ulfet and her team executed every meal to perfection and they even honored our group with some traditional Ukrainian family recipes in celebration of Ukrainian Christmas that we requested. Everything was delicious and Ulfet and her team also honored the vegans and children in our group with alternative choices. REALLY FANTASTIC food! The rooms and lodges were spacious but had a cozy feel. They were quaint but provided some up to date amenities. Everything about our family reunion was so memorable, and the entire staff of the island is to thank. Such nice people, and they paid attention to every detail to make us feel very welcomed.

Yelp
We went for a day trip with a small group from the St Simons Island Sandpipers. We had lunch at The Lodge on Little St Simons Island and it was great. The service was unbelievable. We had tuna served with a great sauce. It was served with olives, asparagus, potatoes, artichoke hearts and boiled eggs.

Yelp
Unbelievable trip with our family of 16 members; this is what the southern east coast looked like to our 17th century ancestors. We had a wonderful time. The Mosquitos were mosquitos but i used the various repellent products supplied at the door of each room and did just fine. I felt cut off (loved it) from our hectic lives back in urban America. I would highly recommend this place; our 4 , 5 and 6 year old boys were in seventh heaven and the adults enjoyed all the naturalists activities especially the hand's on with snakes. I would go for 3-4 days. Then you can get into the pace of the place and say; hmm would i have gotten on a boat from Europe and come here???? Hmmmmm.....

Yelp
Colt's Steakhouse deserves five stars. Excellent food, service and wine. Best meal in all of Georgia. The setting is gorgeous. We were offered a drink outside as the bagpiper played at sunset. Magical!
