On the Grid : The Looking Glass

"Sections are cleverly named and stenciled on the floor in this used book wonderland in South Oak Park. Small and tidy, you'll only get lost in your thoughts here. A knowledgeable staff, good selection and great prices make this bright, sunny spot a favorite for bibliophiles." - Julie Shumacher & Brett Burwell

A nice interactive experience though a little limited in size. It's essentially in a giant room that you can walk around and touch. Some of the art was quite impressive. And I commend them for trying something different. I'm not sure it's worth $15 per ticket, but definitely so for half-off Fridays.

Very friendly, good for kids. We purchased tickets in advance. Lots of little things to discover in the artwork. The scavenger hunt was fun as well. They also have a bar, snacks here. And some art supplies Out.

Without giving too much away the experience was immersive! The space is smaller than one would expect but there is lots to see and interact with. Set your expectations to being present to really soak up the affects and atmosphere. A lot of interesting tiny details one could easily overlook. Love the little tree house! What a unique experience! I can't think of any other place like this that doesn't charge an arm and a leg. Grateful for the experience and the artists who out it together!

Went here for their Pride themed party and it was a blast! The DJ really knew how to turn it up. People were amazing, from the security staff to receptionist to the bartender. The art installations are also entertaining and fun to look at. Highly recommended for everyone looking to have fun 🏳️‍🌈🥳

We were deeply disappointed 😔☹️😔. It was a very, very small room they had set up. It took us all of 5-10 minutes to go through the entire room. It was very deceiving from the outside of the building, we thought for sure it would be a large multi- room, or multi-level installation and it was only one small room. All we could do was laugh because we came from out of town to see it, and 10 minutes later we were in our car and leaving... lol, Bummer. Oh well. 😔

This was amazing! My family and I had a wonderful time exploring this immersive art exhibit on our trip to Charlottesville. It was perfect for our 2, 4 and 6 year old and very entertaining for the adults as well. There were so many details to explore. There is a fun bar at the end where kids can paint or color and you can create a poem with clippings from books. We recommend this exhibit to anyone we know who goes to Charlottesville. We want to go back the next time we’re in town.

We attended the Fae Festival and there was a $5 add on to enter the Looking Glass because there would be art installations and performances. It seemed from images and descriptions that there were several areas to explore. There was one room, no performances, and a handful of details on the wall and ceiling with black-light paint details. Not an immersion experience, just a lounge with funky decor.

Visited this weekend, from out of town. Our girls (5 and 7) really loved this. It was unique, FUN, and the art stations at the end were a really nice touch. Well done!
