The Lookout Deck

The Lookout Deck boasts one of the most breathtaking seaside views in Plettenberg Bay, perched right on the beachfront, it offers an unbeatable backdrop of ocean and horizon while you dine. The option to sit inside or outside is a plus, and the gentle sea breeze adds something special to the experience. The menu is varied, with almost daily specials and occasional live performances. While we appreciate live music, the upbeat style on the night felt a little mismatched to the setting—we would’ve loved something more relaxed to complement the sound of the waves and tranquil atmosphere. We ordered the grilled hake, which arrived fairly quickly and well portioned, but unfortunately, both portions were overcooked. The side dishes, however, crispy chips and fresh salad, were excellent. Although the waitress was friendly, service was somewhat slow and a few requests were left unattended. Despite this, when we raised the issue, a manager responded promptly, apologized sincerely, and arranged for our meals to be redone. The replacements were superb—tender, perfectly cooked, and truly delicious. The coffee that followed was excellent, and we appreciated the senior staff checking in personally to ensure all was well. All in all, a pleasant and memorable date night with my wife. We’d gladly return and look forward to another meal here.

Lovely views and fun decorated atmosphere. Butternut&feta side is a great choice, fish was perfectly cooked but didn't like the taste of the calamari, predominant crispy crumbs (perhaps the oil was due for fresh batch?) No baby changing area. Good selection on kids menu.

We used to love going to the Lookout Deck, but after its ownership changed a few years ago, we were repeatedly disappointed. Despite its incredible views—likely the best in Plettenberg Bay—we returned a few times, only to find declining food quality, smaller portions, and poor service. Eventually, we stopped going regularly. We decided to try it again about two weeks ago. What a pleasant surprise! They offer a great selection of beers on tap. I had the Kingklip (described as “The Deck's masterpiece: grilled & dusted in herbs & spices with garlic lemon butter sauce”), which was perfectly cooked. My wife ordered the Lookout Burger with a Pepper sauce, but the patty was dry despite her medium request. The presentation of the Kingklip dish could use more flair—a touch of color from parsley, chives, or a vibrant garnish would elevate the dishes (see attached photos). Keep improving, and we’ll become regulars again. We’re rooting for Lookout Deck to reclaim its place as our favourite restaurant in Plett!

A fantastic spot at Plettenberg Bay! This beautifully located restaurant boasts a terrace with stunning views of the sea and beach, making it the perfect place to soak up the scenery. The picnic tables add to the relaxed atmosphere, and the menu offers a great selection of dishes. The food is fresh and full of flavor – the creamy curry with mussels and bread was absolutely delicious, and the crispy fish and chips were perfectly prepared. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a memorable experience in a breathtaking setting! Love this beach 🌊

Great spot with a beautiful view of the bay. Great range of beers on tap, bottled beers and wines. Long cool soft drinks in plentiful supply. Light bites and lunch on offer. The pizza is recommended. A relaxed laid back beach and sea view venue.

I've thoroughly enjoyed my trips to The Lookout, once having a pizza which was lovely thin base and crispy, the other time having hake and calamari. The hake was really good but the calamari wasn't the best I've had, being a bit rubbery. The view is honestly incredible and the atmosphere is great. The service is generally good, not great, but good. The selection of food is also a real benefit too, ranging from pizza to steak to seafood.

the lookout is a lovely place with great view! we went couple of times, both for lunch and dinner! food is great and service was absolute fantastic, with a special thanks to Aphiwe! there is a beach right there, so fantastic to have a swim as well. we will be back :)
