We had a week-long reservation at this hotel, but due to severe weather, Montreal and New York airports were closed one day after another for two consecutive days (July 13–14). All flights were canceled, and we had no choice but to return to Switzerland. Throughout this ordeal, the front desk staff—especially David—was extremely kind and understanding. He reassured us that we wouldn’t be charged for the missed nights and encouraged us to keep in touch. When we finally had to cancel the entire stay, David again promised a full cancellation without fees, asking only for proof of flight cancellation, which we provided. However, we were later contacted by the manager, Edwin Ramos, who said the hotel would charge us for one night. After a detailed discussion, he agreed to refund us fully, which we appreciate. While his initial response was disappointing—especially the comment that “I will investigate and someone would need to be held responsible”—we’re glad that he ultimately chose the path of understanding and customer care. We hope this experience encourages him and the team to continue supporting staff who show empathy and flexibility in exceptional situations. David truly exemplified excellent service, and we hope his approach is valued and encouraged. Thank you again for the final resolution. The gesture meant a lot to our family after such a difficult journey.

Great stay at the Lucerne! Very clean, comfortable beds, strong water pressure in the shower. Very convenient location near lots of restaurants and bars, Natural History museum, Central Park, and a very close subway stop to get you everywhere you need to go. Safe area. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Rooms/decor are a little dated and so are the elevators, but that did not take away from our stay. Gym is very small but clean and nice. We are a family of five and booked two rooms - a regular room with two double beds and a suite with two queens. Book on the site and join their club for the best rate.

I would absolutely stay here again. I was upgraded to a king suite without even asking, and the room was absolutely exquisite — spacious, quiet, and beautifully designed with everything I needed. The Bellman in the lobby greeted me with genuine joy every time I walked in and was always ready to help with anything. One of the things I always look for when choosing a hotel is the bathroom, and this one exceeded every expectation. It felt clean, luxurious, spacious, and truly elevated — the kind of space that makes you feel instantly at ease and cared for. The location was also perfect: just a few blocks from Central Park, with easy access to the subway, and Insomnia Cookies right across the street (yes, I took advantage). Whether you’re visiting the city for business or a peaceful escape, this place made everything feel effortless, grounded, and quietly luxurious.

An excellent value for money. Unlike other hotels you get space to spread out. The decor is dated but perfectly nice and clean - For the same money I’ll take more space over fancy looking faucets any day. There isn’t a restaurant in the hotel proper but there’s one in the building and a good 24 hr convenience with decent food across the street. Our room had a sitting room with a small corridor with a bathroom to one side and a fridge space in the corridor to the bedroom. No honor bar. The older fixtures are very nice to use (lots of water flow in a way that’s rare in most places today!). There are nice views from the windows in several directions and the windows are modest sized to maintain privacy. All in all one of the best places I’ve stayed in NY (I’ve stayed in many newer hotels like the standard and the ace and the roger Williams but I’d actually prefer to stay here). 5 stars since this isn’t some peak of opulence but I think hotels like this are under rated and I will go back here even if a fancier hotel is allowed by work.

I have stayed at the Lucerne twice now. The service is amazing! Everyone, from the doorman to the front desk staff, housekeeping, and servers at the restaurant (Nice Matine) are super friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. The location is great! The subway is within a block, Central Park is a short walk in one direction while Riverside Park is an easy walk in the other direction. Lots of great shopping and restaurants all within an easy walk. My room was very comfortable. While the walls seem thin (I could hear my neighbor’s television), they turned it off before bedtime and I did not notice any other noises. Air conditioning worked well and the bathroom was clean with good water pressure and hot water. My first stay at Lucerne wasn’t perfect but they really did try to make it so. I think I got a little embarrassed that time when I had to keep complaining. I decided to try it again this time and I’m so glad that I did! I will definitely be back and can’t wait!

Yelp
I just spent five nights at the Lucerne while in town for work. I enjoyed my stay very much. My room was comfortable and clean, and the bathroom was spotless. I had a deluxe queen- still small compared with hotels in, say, Vegas but bigger by far than I had in Paris. The desk and door staff were all welcoming and helpful. The blackout curtains helped with sleep. I'm a light sleeper and the traffic noises kept me up on night one, but earplugs solved that! It's NYC, even with thick windows there will be some noise. I'm just out of practice after four years away. The Lucerne will be my hotel whenever I come to visit. They even had a nice umbrella in the foyer closet in case it rained during my stay.

Yelp
Terrible customer service, coupled with rude and unprofessional demeanor over the phone. Don't waste your time or $$$ given so many other hotels in NYC that value your business and exhibit class.

Yelp
Overpriced. I acknowledge the price will be high due to the prime location in the UWS near the natural history museum, the park, the subway, and so many restaurants. To that end I dedicate this single star to this facts, since I cannot leave a 0 star review for the hotel. The room furnishings are more what I expect from a la Quinta in the 1990's. It's okay, but nothing worth the money. The room itself is microscopic. Seriously, my master closet at my house is larger than the hotel room I paid so much for. The AC was kind enough to stop working while I was in the hotel room working, beginning to raise the temperature. They were good enough to send someone up, but now I get to wait on my workday while they work on the AC, and I get to stay in this same room and gamble on the AC working this time. I've been here two days, and I've been working from the hotel room, and I get a call from their housekeeping demanding that I let them in, because apparently I've had the do not disturb sign on my door too long according to them, and since they're union they have to do a wellness check to ensure I'm not destroying the room. Yeah. That's what they said. Never mind the fact that I'm working in here - I'm expected to cater them. Am I a guest? This doesn't seem very hospitable. You want to take a considerable chunk of my money, and then you treat me like i'm an untrustworthy steward of the room I attached my name and credit card to. Wow. Meanwhile, you can't even be bothered to take care of your property properly. Disgusting. Not a fan, and will not plan to return again.

Yelp
Great place to stay. Staff couldn't be nicer, clean room and quiet. I was on the 5th floor in a corner room. There is a restaurant adjacent to the lobby. Would stay here again.

Yelp
The room was very clean and comfortable. The staff amazing. I wanted to extend my stay but they had no more rooms available. Will stay here again in the future.

Yelp
We checked in for a long weekend. It was very convenient to the 1 subway line (but I picked a weekend it was closed for maintenance). All together a great hotel with very friendly employees.

Yelp
Easily the best location on the Upper West Side, close to train stations, the museum, Central Park, Zabar's, and numerous restaurants along Amsterdam. The service resembles that of a 5-star hotel--attentive and special. Rooms are comfortable, and the area feels very safe, even late at night. Taxis are easily accessible from this major cross street. When my mom's flight was canceled due to the hurricane, they extended her stay in the same room without hassle. While a bit pricey, the cost is comparable to similar hotels in the area and well worth it for a comfortable stay in a vibrant neighborhood. It's a quick 10-15 minute train ride to Midtown for Broadway shows, or about the same time by cab. The hotel's restaurant, Nice Matin, is highly regarded in the neighborhood, so you can enjoy a great meal without leaving the hotel. Treat yourself!

Yelp
I gave a 5-star rating and Yelp be like "what went well?" Here you go: Check-in: breeze! Do we know how stressful it can be after arrivals to be told sorry can't check you in until 2pm? DID NOT happen here. We arrived around 11ish and Jose was able to check us in. He was so nice and made our first time at the Lucerne a great first impression. House keeping crew is just the best. Just the best. They kept our room clean and supplied us with everything we would need. Any issues? Yes, a few things. - the elevators can be super sloooowww. But, whatever- still a 5-star rating. - the troll who drove us to the Moynihan station. Edwardo. He's such a troll. His seat was leaned way back as if he was taking a nap. It left me with no room and I should've taken a picture of it. Had to ask TWICE for troll to adjust his seat. Of course I couldn't move because I was not the only passenger in the car, but, how inconsiderate can one be when he was driving with the back of his driver seat leaning all down. Edwardo- stop being a twat and stop ruining the reputation of an otherwise a great hotel since you drive for them.

Yelp
I paid for a deluxe room and was lucky to get a quiet, corner room with windows on 2 sides. The bed was super comfy and I'm convinced to switch out my microfiber pillows for feather ones which I can adjust to form fit to my head and neck. The air conditioner was frosty and blows evenly and quietly. I could hear noise when people talked in the hallway but not from adjacent rooms. The staff was friendly on all fronts. The doorman sacrificed himself to flag taxis and put luggage into trucks in the pounding rain to minimize hotel guests from getting wet. The location is convenient to many restaurants. The subway is just 1 block away as is the Natural History museum. The rooms seem larger than what you would find downtown which makes it more comfortable for longer stays. I would stay at The Lucerne Hotel again.

Yelp
This is a very nice hotel. I can't really find fault with it. The staff and service was excellent. The beds very comfortable. The shower were hot and had amazing water pressure. I think my issue is that even though our suite was roomy, I don't think it was worth the money. To be fair, I found this room on Priceline and then called the hotel and they price matched it. And it was about 50% off. So i guess for what we paid, it was great. But I don't know why you would pay that kind of money for this hotel at regular price. We did get a bottle of champagne at check in since it was our wedding, which was nice. But we also got a 3rd floor room with views of walls outside both of our windows. Again, I know I got a crazy good price and had no right to expect extra upgrades. And again, I liked our stay a lot. It was a big comfy room. It's just I wouldn't pay full price for it. That's all.

Yelp
This hotel is conveniently located on the upper eastside, within walking distance to Central Park and many good restaurants as well as bus and subway lines. The hotel is very clean, the rooms are a nice size, my king bed was so comfey except the very large pillows were hard. Housekeeping kept the room immaculate, the front desk helpful and professional as was the doorman. The restaurant and small bar was very nice and breakfast was very good. The negatives for me was the showerhead was one of those "rain" showers, the sink and toilet were low and no directions on how to operate TV remote. I would highly recommend the Lucerne!

Wendee R.

Yelp
The location is perfect if you are looking for a quieter part of the city. Staff is friendly and accommodating from the housekeepers and bellmen to the front desk. This will be my hotel of choice!

Yelp
Do NOT stay here. It smells. Has dirty old over sanitized carpet. Dated bathrooms, furnishings, wallpaper, electrical switches

Yelp
Wonderful staff. Clean, comfortable, and spacious room. Located near the subway and close to Central Park. Many nearby restaurants. Great housekeeping. We've stayed here multiple times and love it each time.

Yelp
What this place has going for it is location. You're around the corner from the #1 train, a few minutes walk to Central Park, Museum of Natural History, etc. You can't beat that. The hotel itself feels tired. Everything looks faded (this includes the beige wallpaper, the beige bedspreads, etc.) and the rooms- at least in late September- are very stuffy, so you have to alternate cranking the a/c and turning it off. All of that is manageable though because, again, location. The only real downside here is that the walls between rooms are very thin. I could clearly hear a conversation from the next room, and I'm sure they weren't shouting. Same goes for noise traveling from the hallways into the guest rooms. If you're looking for a good night's sleep, bring ear plus.

Yelp
Nice location. Nice and friendly staff only one elevator working. Long waits. Costs are high but nice old classic look.

Yelp
This is a very charming boutique hotel on the upper west side that is close to a number of restaurants, the subway, and Central Park. It is adjacent to the restaurant Nice Matin and the hotel offers a discount for breakfast there. The lobby is grand and each time we entered the hotel we were greeted warmly and the doors were opened for us. The desk staff was very friendly and we received a complimentary upgrade to a suite upon check-in. Our room was spacious by UWS standards as two of us easily had plenty of space. The closet was large and the room had a small sitting room with a couch and desk. A mini fridge, microwave, and coffee maker were also available. My only issue with the room was that hair was found in my towel in the bathroom, which made me question the cleanliness of the place. Located on our floor was a fitness center that had a few pieces of cardio equipment, a weight machine, and free weights. A business center with several computers was just down the hall. The Lucerne charges a resort fee for the use of these two rooms, which was a little surprise at the time of check-in. We quickly learned that walking up the narrow, small staircase even at a snail's pace would beat the wait for the elevator. One appeared to be out of order during our time there so the wait was often ridiculous. We waited once and then we looked for the steps. Overall, we had a nice brief stay here. I'm not sure that I would book it again but it worked for us on this trip. Plus, it's close to Levain's Bakery and cookies make everything better!

Yelp
Deluxe queen room comes with ... a double bed. I asked about it and got some - I guess you'd call it - doubletalk. Place has a good location tho.

Yelp
We had a wonderful 10 day stay at the Lucerne a few weeks back. The service was excellent, the beds were incredibly comfortable, the room was large for Manhattan standards, and best of all, this hotel is only a couple blocks away from Central Park! We love to bike ride when we are in the city and the proximity to the park makes this the best place for that! There are also more restaurants than you could ever visit in a month lined along the streets surrounding the hotel. Perfection! We will be back again!

Yelp
We found a very good deal on Expedia for a night at this hotel. I was very impressed overall by the hotel. Great location! We even managed to find free street parking a block from the hotel, which saved us $55 from having to park in the nearby garage. Nice clean, and elegant lobby. Only one working elevator at the time of our visit (that was annoying). Friendly staff. The room we stayed in had 2 double beds. It was spacious (by NYC standards), clean, and nicely decorated. Even though our room was across from the elevator it was pretty quiet. There was only one coffee packet in the room for the Keurig, even though there were 2 mugs. I was impressed to find an umbrella in the closet, which I'm assuming is for guests who maybe forgot to bring an umbrella? Seems like a thoughtful and unexpected addition. I would happily stay here again in the future, and would hope by then the second elevator would be fixed.

Yelp
I was going to NYC for a conference and searched for a good hotel. I decided on the Lucerne. I must say that I did read that it was used as a homeless shelter during the pandemic, but this is no longer the case. The hotel has been completely renovated and is absolutely clean, beautiful and wonderful to stay in. The staff is incredibly friendly, the rooms are clean and comfortable and the neighborhood is safe and full of delicious places to eat. My room was a good size and the bed was comfortable. Only issue was no microwave in the room. Otherwise, I highly recommend this awesome hotel!!!

Rose L.

Yelp
Poor service in an otherwise lovely hotel. The sheets in one of the beds were dirty and the front desk sent up a new sheet but did not make the bed for us which I feel they should have done. When I mentioned the sheets again the next morning the front desk staff basically said it was unfortunate. Um, it's more than that.

Yelp
I had plan to stay at this hotel late May-June (2020) for a special trip with the family. Unfortunately all my flights was canceled/rescheduled/delayed due to Covid! As much I as I wanted to be in NY and stay at The Lucerne, I am an essential worker in my state and could not take a leave of absence. All my travels (air/activities/reservations) some originally was "non-refundable" but they change their policy and refunded or in the form of a voucher for future use. Unfortunately The Lucerne is still keeping their "non-refundable" policy, knowing very well most of us called and explain our circumstances. I am very disappointed, worse my family was very much looking forward to visiting NY. We will for sure visit NY when it is safe to do so but we will not be doing business with The Lucerne or their affiliates. *Update* 05/29/20: Sent an email to The Lucerne, they recommend I contact Expedia, Expedia contacts The Lucerne and after an hour long wait. The Lucerne granted credits of my reservations for up to a year. While I am glad to get the credits, Expedia contacted The Lucerne a week ago on my behalf but was denied. Perhaps they did change their policy but you have to be proactive and get your Travel site/agent/booking to contact them on your behalf again. Still leaving the one star review for the whole experienced, if the family decide to stay with The Lucerne in the near future then will update this review.

Yelp
I waited a bit after visiting The Lucerne to write this review because I have mixed feelings about my experience. The hotel itself is at least 4 stars and, if you take location into account plus room size (for NYC standards), then they deserve 5. So, why only 3? Well...my husband and I checked into the Lucerne at 2am after a very, very long day of work. And we had the terrible luck of checking in at the same time as very large group that booked two rooms and had clearly been partying. No judgement on the partying, I've had my fair share of fun and don't need many excuses to have a fun night out. But there are hotels where that is cool and there are others where it isn't. The Lucerne belongs to the second group. Long story short, this group was assigned two rooms right across the hall from us and they were up all night long. We called the front desk and complained, but the hotel staff wasn't able to fix the situation. After getting no sleep on what we had hoped would be a restful night, we called the front desk again and asked to speak to the manager. She was courteous and took the time to go up to our floor to check on the party - which was still going at 10am - and finally got them to be quiet. The manager also offered us complimentary late check out but, in all honesty, her gesture didn't make any difference at that point. We had places to be and couldn't even take advantage of the late check out. I would really like to give The Lucerne a better rating but, based on my experience, I can't. I just hope to find a good deal to stay at this hotel again, because I would gladly give them a second chance and really hope to have an opportunity to update my review to the 5 stars that they probably deserve.

Yelp
A very nice hotel on the Upper West Side, not far from the American Museum of Natural History, and it is very easy to get around the city with connections from the subway located less than a block away. The building is beautiful, built in 1904 and the room's décor fits with the exterior. The staff are friendly, professional and helpful. The hotel itself is very reasonably priced. Hopefully once they fix the second elevator (only one was working during our stay), this should definitely be a place you consider for your stay in NYC.

Yelp
We had flown in for our bucket list Thanksgiving week. The Hotel and staff exceeded our expectations. Our concierge went above and beyond, she set us up with airport and city private car service, arranged for great seats at To awesome broadway shows and recommended great local restaurants. The hotel sits center west of Central Park a short two blocks away. We toured the ballon inflation then next days Parade. Our room was very clean and maid service was impeccable. We felt like royalty and look forward to coming back this spring. The Lucerne Hotel Rocks !

Yelp
It's a nice, clean hotel in the middle of UWS. It feels more like a resident living building vs. a hotel. They have a good selection of spaces and the prices are decent, but location is great.
google avatar

Mari B.

Yelp
Had a really wonderful second stay at The Lucerne. I usually stay at another notable UWS hotel but I was being put up at the Lucerne. I had a really nice experience. The doormen are great. The front desk staff are accommodating, kind and professional. Another nice things about them is they have enough front desk staff. Never a long wait. There was a service issue in my room and the maint staff is fast, polite and professional. They have an afternoon happy hour The room was clean and quiet. I don't use housekeeping as I think it's a waste of time and money but when I needed something- spoon, change of towels etc, they were super helpful. The bed was comfortable and the linens fresh. I had a fridge because I booked a suite. If you need a little kitchenette with fridge and microwave, book a suite. Edwin was amazing. There was weather this weekend and I needed to cancel my reservation for one day and leave early, this was 2 hours after the cancellation period and he honored the cancellation. There is a decent size fitness center and also a business center. I was on the 2nd floor where the fitness center is located and I saw people taking advantage. I will be back!

Yelp
I stayed at the Lucerne recently while in the city for a conference, and I cannot say enough good things about this hotel. One thing that particularly struck me was the fragrance that was sprayed in the room, which for some reason reminded me of the cologne of a (non-specific, general) man with whom I'd like to have sex. Between that and the soft lighting of the lamps in the room, a mood was set that I was only sorry I could not take full advantage of, as I was staying alone. But it inspired me, and I will most assuredly keep the Lucerne in mind for potential future liaisons. So thank you to the Lucerne for that! (Also, I inadvertently left two items in the room after checking out, and I called the hotel to hold the items so I could come and retrieve them while I was still in the city. Sure enough, when I returned after my event several hours later, the items were there, and the front desk staff was immeasurably helpful. Because of that, and the Wine Hour they have every day, the Lucerne will forever have a 5-star rating in my book!)

Sheldon B.

Yelp
Wow! Our third party booking company totally messed up but Kira (front office manager) hit a GRAND SLAM!! She is what customer service is all about!! She fixed what was messed up big time. The hotel rooms are very spacious and very comfortable. Checked in today for a 4 night stay with my wife. So far REALLY impressed. Do yourself a favor and stay here.

Yelp
Our family stayed here for 8 days while visiting NYC on vacation We had a great view on the 9th floor Opted for a double/double which was roomy for the four of us - the extra room with the kitchenette was helpful as we shopped and bought plenty of good eats! The hotel restaurant was delightful for breakfast on our second rainy morning Our room blew a fuse in the morning and the staff came right up to fix it Great location for all our touring.

Yelp
Worst check in experience I've ever had in my life. There was a problem with my reservation and they were ready to just let me sleep on the streets tonight. Zero empathy, kindness, or effort to make it right. Also added a lot of fees to what I agreed to pay online. Will NOT be staying here again. Unfortunately it's 10p and I'm too exhausted to find another place to stay tonight. Kira S. should learn hospitality.
google avatar

Yelp
Loved loved our stay. Will definitely stay again as I love the UWS so unless that area won't work, I'll be a return. Gorgeously redone and attention to detail. Kuerigs in room which was great. Easy. Average products. Everything was clean and everyone friendly. Zero complaints. The doormen are wonderful and really add to that NYC feel. And coming in late they check your name and room. I loved that. NY Times to room daily. Don't hesitate. Rooms aren't huge but they are comfortable enough w a great mattress and pillows, which isn't always the case. Faced 79th but no issues w noise. Loved the view. The window actually opened so peeked at the Hudson! Wine hour in the lobby daily. Was really impressed.

Yelp
Stayed here for our March NYC getaway weekend - was super-impressed with the place even before we'd arrived The concierge called & left a VM welcoming us, gave us his direct number & said he could help us with anything we may need like Broadway tickets or dinner or whatever. Nice touch! The room was huge by NYC standards & super-quiet, the bed was comfy as all get out, wifi was free & fast, walk-in closet with safe, ironing board and complimentary umbrella Bathroom was huge w/ Aveda bath products, lots of water pressure. A/C was awesome as well & didn't run on those awful motion sensors or keycard in the door thingys & this was greatly appreciated. I like a constant fan & I had a constant fan Wine reception to greet us as we arrived..... & don't even get me started on the location! Close to Levain, Mille-Feuille & the subway; there's a Duane Reade right across the street, I just can't say enough nice things about the Lucerne. We've finally found our go-to NYC hotel!

Yelp
We found a great price on Expedia on a small suite. Found the same price on the hotel site when going there for more details about the suite. Hotel is in a great location, subway one block away. Central park just a couple blocks. Room was nice, small kitchenette area with microwave and fridge. Two queen beds in separate room which worked out well when my brother stayed up late and I conked out early. Helpful desk and front door crew, and nice concierge who helped arrange airport transportation back. The only negative I can think of is I used the stairwell to exit from our floor one morning and came out behind the front desk, and got the stink-eye from them. I don't think they expect anyone to use the stairs except in an emergency.

Yelp
I thought about doing 3 stars, but ultimately our stay here was pretty good, so I think 4 stars is in order. My main complaint is that there was only one working elevator, and it was small. If you miss it going up or down you're going to be waiting a while. I don't know how often the other elevator is out of order, but they had a laminated sign on a stand that said out of order, so something tells me this may happen at least occasionally. The big plus for the Lucerne is it's Upper West Side location. As some have pointed out there are few options up this way, so being at 79th and Amsterdam, close to metro, as well as shops and restaurants, is great. It was also clean, and we got a good sleep (comfortable beds). The style, however was not to our taste at all, and I recoiled when I entered the room. My daughter and I marveled at just how much someone could do with brown and gold! From the room to the elevator! The rooms were also on the small side. The adjacent cafe was not very good, and it was dirty, but that gets its own review. If the style doesn't bother you then the Lucerne might be a good choice for staying in the UWS.
google avatar

Natasha P.

Yelp
There were some great perks to staying here: affordable, quaint hotel with that European feel (tiny elevators) on the UWS, a block from the subway, a short walk to Central Park and the Natural History Museum, a very cute cafe across the street to grab coffee and a bite, Zabar's just a hop skip away. However, they have fake curtains and that's totally worth dropping from 4 to 3 stars. And by fake I mean unable to close or move on a full track to cover the entire window. I had to build a wall with fancy decorative pillows and it was pathetic. I considered going out and buying giant binder clips so I could close the curtains a little better but Duane Reade unfortunately do not sell them. Anyway, if you love light during both night and day, you'll be nice and cozy here, but if you're a finicky sleeper like me, best of luck.

Yelp
This hotel is a joke. They had booked us 2 extra rooms on my moms card (on booking.com) the charge was 800$ extra, they would NOT refund us. Booking had cancelled the charge but the HOTEL itself is so unprofessional and rude as hell. The hotel manager (male) didn't catch his name, didn't care that my mom was in tears or that we wasted 3 hours of our NY trip trying to handle this situation. I think it's beyond me that the hotel itself would make us pay 800 out of pocket when booking even cancelled it. They just want your money and the rooms aren't even worth it LET ME TELL YA. Service sucks and they don't care about customer service WHAT SO EVER.

Yelp
The Lucerne is a nice boutique hotel and we enjoyed our stay. We had a room with two double beds. Two adults and two small children in late June. The good: Great location and close to a subway entrance. An easy walk to Central Park and Nat history museum. We also really enjoyed going to the restaurant on the bottom floor, Nice Matin, for breakfast. The staff were kind and fun to chat with. The AC worked well, rooms were clean and service timely. The not as good: rooms and bathrooms are pretty small for 4 (I know, NYC). Walls a bit thin, I could hear the woman in the other room at night when I slept. Hotel has a single small elevator that can get busy. Overall though, it's a great value and we would certainly stay here again.

Yelp
Great location if you're interested in being in a less touristy area, and don't mind hopping on the subway a few stops. Loads of restaurants in the area, plus Zabars and Levain Bakery (yum). We had a superior king room, which had a king bed and a nice hallway with a large closet (big enough for our 2 carry on bags, 2 regular bags, an ironing board, and hanging space). The bathroom was on the small side and the shower not amazing but satisfactory. The bed was firm but not to the point of being uncomfortable. The air conditioning was a bit too harsh and we were either warm or cold - but at least it worked. We were in room 619 so on the 6th floor and not right on Amsterdam - but our windows (on a corner) looked out over rooftops with vents for the restaurants - so opening our windows meant our room smelled of food, so we just kept them closed. We could hear street noise but it didn't wake us or keep us up. The room was on the small side but comfortable. It's not modernly styled but it was all okay, and the TV was large with a good picture and lots of channels. Free wifi wasn't super-fast but perfectly adequate for normal use, and could be used on as many devices as we wanted. The front desk staff and doormen were nice. The concierge we spoke to was a rude man who treated us like idiots and was more interested in his phone than helping us. Basically we just wanted to know the cost of a taxi to JFK (FYI, plan on $70 including toll and tip). We decided that was too much and we'd take the 1, the E, and the SkyTrain. It was just before 2pm and our international flight departed JFK at 6.30pm. The concierge STRONGLY urged us to have the receptionist call us a taxi as there was no way we'd make it to the airport in time and was trying to bully us into calling a taxi (does he get a kickback?!). We went on our own way as we had planned and were in the queue at JFK by 3.20pm, so he was not only an ass, but an ignorant ass. I've not factored this into my rating as it wouldn't deter me from staying here again but it needed to be mentioned!

Yelp
4.5 STAR REVIEW!! Great location. EXCEPTIONAL staff. Very clean. Amazing beds. Nice lighting. Good views. I came to this place around 10/11am and though check in was at 3pm, they allowed us to check in at that time -- yayy! Our room was on the 10th floor and in the corner ... it wasn't as spacious as other New York rooms I've stayed in, but we did have an extra bed sitting in the room =P. The bathroom was very pretty, and we enjoyed our view very much, especially since the sun shined through all weekend long. The staff was ALWAYS very kind and courteous. They never once forgot to open the doors for us, ask us about our day/how we were doing, or ask us if a cab was needed -- so attentive. The only reason .5 star is missing is because the price is quite high, but for that kind of place and service, I can see why. Also keep in mind that the location is FANTASTIC! You are a couple blocks away from subway stations, bus lines, amazing restaurants, street/flea markets, central park, museums ... I mean c'mon, this place has it all.

Yelp
My parents recently got upgraded to a suite, and I'm really impressed with it. It's comfortable, contains two TVs, and has a nice view looking north, up Amsterdam. The people who work in the lobby are also very helpful. This is now one of my parents' favorite hotels in the area. I can see why!

Yelp
I stayed here for a week in October 2013. I had an excellent stay...rooms were nice, clean and the staff were really friendly. Great location, close to Central Park and the subway is only a block away. I would definitely stay here again on my next visit. Side note, the artist Banksy put up a piece on W79th between Amsterdam and Broadway.

Yelp
This is a nice hotel.. the staff are friendly and the room is clean. But the four star rating goes to the concierge. She got my friend and I tickets to Wicked, a reservation at Craft and booked a double decker tour all within minutes.

Yelp
My parents stay here most of the time when they visit New York. It's a great location on the Upper West Side and is comfortable, clean, well-run, and well-maintained. Not a 5-star-er, but catches the charminess (which is different than charm) of the neighborhood very well. Very beautiful pre-war building that could be historic one day. However, as with most New York spaces, the rooms are fairly small yet the prices are still high, though not Times Square high. Only other real hotel option nearby in the UWS is the Excelsior, which is right across from the Museum of Natural History Hayden Planetarium.

Yelp
Found this place via hotels.com and was pleasantly surprised. It is a walk or cab ride away from museums, Central Park, DSW, museums and all kinds of eats. The AM and PM staff was incredibly helpful in providing suggestions for places to eat, where to be at night etc. Flavored water can be found in the afternoon and early evening here in the main lobby. The room we stayed in was perfect... clean, air conditioned and we could watch some preseason football in peace. Vending machines are on the second floor. There is a cafe next door for breakfast lunch and dinner (you can also pre arrange room service from there which is a plus). Will be coming back and staying the next time Manhattan calls.

Yelp
Sure they're right next to the Nice Matin restaurant, but I feel like they should add a bar here or something. Lobby decor could be more modern, but staff is super duper friendly!

Yelp
I want to write a review to prepare others. I traveled the whole day, and arrived the hotel at 9pm. The front desk told me I didn't have a reservation. I contacted American Express, and I was told the room was booked and paid for. Then I went to the front desk again, the man told me there wasn't a record showing my booking. I called Amex, and they confirmed once again. I walked to the front desk, the employee I talked to walked away when he saw me. So I told the second person that I was tired, same as my daughter, and all I need is a room. He then checked the computer told me he saw my reservation. I heard other customers waiting to be checked in said they feel like the scene from the movie "Crazy Rich Asians". Sadly the same scene in the movie was happened several decade ago, and it is still repeating today in this Lucerne Hotel. I feel deeply insulted by this place. My advice, if you are an Asian woman and travel with your child, be aware of this place.

Yelp
Perfect location to walk to Zabar's (two blocks). Insomnia cookies right across the street. Doorman. Very nice front desk staff. Room was decent size (King). Everything seemed clean. Television worked, decent size. Outlet's worked. Water pressure was great, hot water worked. Heat and AC worked well. No bed bugs.
