The 10 Best Hostels in Prague (Updated 2025)

"True to its name, this is a full-on party hostel with cool murals and a very unique feel; the knowledgeable staff organize nightly events and can help arrange daytime activities, making it super easy to meet people. Beds don’t have curtains but mattresses are comfy and each bed has its own light and outlet; there is a two-night minimum, and you shouldn’t come here if you want to sleep and not party." - Matthew Kepnes

I had such an incredible time at Madhouse that words hardly do it justice. The crew is truly next-level — Zoe, the absolute rockstar, was always around with quick help and the best vibes. And Hannah, the most versatile and humble person I’ve met: from planning events and activities to cooking up amazing food, she does it all effortlessly. I was there during Halloween, and it was honestly one of the most fun nights of my trip. Madhouse made my Prague experience unforgettable. Can’t wait to see you all again soon — and I’d be more than happy to host you when you visit India! 🇮🇳✨

This was my first experience staying in a hostel. If you are interested in the nightlife in Prague, it is located within a short walk of a lot of cool bars/clubs. The hostel and all activities are ran mainly by volunteers which creates a really fun informal community vibe to the whole thing. Every night some of the volunteers will cook a 'family style' meal which everyone sits and eats together for 100czk which is around £3. When I was there, I had some really delicious meals such as french toast casserole and pasta alfredo. Every day there is usually some kind of trip out in Prague and in the evenings there are usually trips out to bars/clubs. Often the hostel will get a discounted rate for you through a group booking, you can sign up for tickets for these events at the reception (cash only). I would highly recommend bringing a lot of cash if you are going to Prague anyway as a lot of the local places only accept it as well. Overall I would highly recommend this hostel to anyone who is thinking of travelling to Prague especially solo as it is a really great and welcoming community and a fun and unique way to experience the city.

I had a great time at the mad house. A room full of like minded, kind and thoughtful people who genuinely want to get to know you. Everyone was very welcoming and I always felt at home. And the party feels like its never gonna stop so they have fair and necessary guidelines to make sure no issues arise. Like desugnated quiet hours, their own beer and many other simple but nice features. Amazing place, highly recommend for solo or couple travelers.

I had the best time at Madhouse! All of the volunteers were so amazing, helpful and kind. Definitely party vibes but the house rules allow others to get some down time as the party moves elsewhere. Family dinners were a great way to chat and make friends before drinking games started. All the activities were so fun and I always felt well looked out for! 100% a must stay when in Prague, I'm walking away from my stay with so many new friends and great memories. Shout out to Hannah and Ben who were particularly fab!!

THIS IS the place to stay in Prague!! Amazing community and people in the hostel, and there was always something to do. The crew made it seamless to have fun without having to worry about getting into any locations or having to order any tickets on one's own, etc. It's especially great that they make the most of every event (day and night) and take the guests to the best places possible. The location's also pretty much unbeatable with most of the major attractions in prague being no more than a 10-30 minute stroll away. Apart from that, all the rooms and bathrooms were clean and everything regarding costs and conditions were made clear. Thank you to all the people I met at the hostel for the memories! Hope to be there again soon!

I take grievance with some of these one star reviews, and would like to offer a comprehensive and very real guide for what you can expect at Madhouse. I arrived in Prague from some far off Canadian shore, musty and busted as hell (like a human big foot sighting). I had nothing and nobody; yet, I departed with every individual atom cleansed and repositioned. First of all, this is a party hostel, so maybe don’t be surprised that there are parties happening at and around the hostel? You come here to meet people (the genuine sense of community fostered here is an added bonus too), and Madhouse does an exemplary job of this. Every day there are tours to see any of the billion things Prague has to offer, run by a volunteer with a zest for life and c’est la vie panache. They make you feel welcome no matter where your from as you take in some genuinely unique sights (shout out Emma) After your tour, you have time to settle before family dinner, where, again, a volunteer will cook a meal for the entire hostel where you are encouraged to meet fellow guests and staff, and quite frankly, it’s good. After your meal, you can delete 4-5 beers with your new friends at the cost of what’s in ya pocket. It is like heaven itself came down from the clouds and caressed your cheek. And this is just the start. By the time you’ve rehomed a couple beers like you pulled your wallet out for a Sarah McLachlan commercial, you will have sworn unyielding fealty to the people you’ve just met. Anointed in revelry, and baptized in camaraderie, you then set off to experience Pragues nightlife. I will not spoil this part of the journey— it is something you must experience for yourself, but the way madhouse sets up experiences like this night in and night out is unlike anything I’ve seen before, and I’ve grown fond of every person there. If I could sum up the experience, it would be like the penultimate seconds of a budding crescendo. For a brief moment, you are infinite. Enjoy lovelies.

I was honestly surprised by all the positive reviews, which made me book this hostel — but unfortunately, my experience was very disappointing, and I do not recommend staying here. Some staff members were friendly, but others were constantly drunk or hungover. When I arrived, the person giving the hostel tour was visibly drunk, which set a bad first impression. The hostel itself is very small and overcrowded. There is little space to move, and opening a suitcase is a challenge. Bathrooms were often dirty, and noise was a constant problem — people snoring, turning on lights at night, using phones on loud, and even taking drugs in the dorms. Sleeping here was almost impossible. Security was also an issue. I noticed theft, and overall the environment did not feel safe. The crowd was mostly large groups of men, and I witnessed behavior ranging from constant unwanted flirting to actual harassment. Although some offenders were eventually kicked out, the situation should have been handled more seriously and reported to the police. Another problem was the hidden fees. They ask for a cash deposit (not mentioned during booking), and most activities also require cash in Czech crowns. For travelers with a euro-based bank account, this means constant ATM withdrawals and extra fees. Even the group dinners were disappointing — one I joined turned out to be just fried eggs and bread, although cheap. Almost every organized activity revolves around alcohol, not in a lighthearted social way, but in a way that felt more like promoting heavy drinking culture. When I decided to leave after three nights of a six-night booking, I was refused a refund. Finally, during one of the hostel’s drinking games, I witnessed staff openly cheering for a guest simply because he was from Israel, expressing political support that felt extremely inappropriate in a professional setting. Hostel staff should avoid promoting political views — especially ones tied to controversial conflicts — as it creates a hostile and divisive atmosphere for guests. The only positives were that some staff tried to be helpful, and the location is excellent — close to many of Prague’s highlights. Overall, however, the environment felt unsafe, unclean, and centered only around alcohol. If you want a good hostel experience in Prague, I suggest looking elsewhere

The beds are genuinely comfy and the location is hard to beat. Easy access to everything you’d want to see in Prague. Facilities were solid, no complaints there. The social vibe, though, was a bit off. The hostel is mostly run by young volunteers who seem more focused on each other than the guests. It felt like stepping into an already-formed friend group, which is fine — until you realise that if they decide you’re not “in,” they basically just won’t talk to you. Not rude exactly, just… selectively invisible. If you’re in your early 20s and love that chaotic hostel energy, you might thrive here. But as a 29-year-old solo traveler hoping for a more inclusive atmosphere, it missed the mark. Still, comfy place to sleep and a great base for exploring the city. Just don’t expect much in the way of warm social vibes unless you happen to fit the inner circle.
