The Magnolia Hotel & Spa

"It’s the little things that set apart this swanky spot abutting Victoria’s Inner Harbour and downtown. Like those trademark metallic tubes of L’Occitane products for weary business travelers (Lavender Sleep Well Kit? Yes, please), fluffy signature robes for which we’d happily jet cross-continent, and, of course, the bittersweet pillow treats in the minibar from local Rogers’ Chocolates that quickly diffuse any travel grumpiness. At just 64 rooms, this louche little boîte skews a tad small, but that’s what we like about it—no crowds, no confused or overwhelmed staff, and certainly no angling for speedy service. Rooms are spacious smoke- and pearl-hued confections as beloved for their chic, streamlined design as they are for their beds—it’s gonna take more than a free hotel breakfast to relinquish us from this plush, cloud-like heaven—though we suggest you splurge for a signature corner room, with high ceilings and a gas fireplace, and front-row views of the impressive, stone-clad Parliament building (especially charming when it’s lit up at night). The spa services are so expertly delivered that even the locals stop in every now and again. Take advantage of the free loaner bikes, and the new bike maps, to take a tour of the town, and eat up at The Courtney Room, which has won several awards since opening in 2018, including being a ‘100 Best Restaurants in Canada’ for 2019."

Our visit was fantastic. We only stayed one night, but would love to return. The room was comfortable, quiet, cozy, and very well equipped - we enjoyed the robes and slippers, as well as the coffee in room (and the nespresso in the lobby). The dyson hair dryer and L’Occitane amenities were excellent touches. The front desk staff were incredible throughout the stay, recommending a great spot for dinner, and were communicative and helpful in reuniting us with an item we’d forgot when checking out. Overall, the Magnolia spoke to well designed modern luxury, easily walkable to everything from local record shops to the waterfront.

We stayed for 3 nights over the BC Holiday weekend. The room was well appointed and very comfortable, even with 4 of us sharing a double queen room. The staff were all excellent- very friendly and accommodating with helpful information and amenities. The location was quiet and perfect for walking downtown.

This is such a wonderful hotel! My family and I stayed here for nearly a week and it was one of the best hotel experiences we have ever had. The rooms are really nice, the staff incredible, and the location is hard to beat! I think that the Fairmount Empress gets a lot of the attention, but I the 5-star service and intimate attention that Magnolia can offer is worth so much more than simply opulence. I cannot say enough great things about the Magnolia. We had our 18 month old daughter with us and they were beyond kind to her, even addressing her as she came and went, and never made us feel stressed having a toddler that can be unpredictable at times. Staff provided lots of great recommendations, helped us with items we'd forgotten to bring, and the housekeeping staff go above and beyond! Will definitely stay here again if we are fortunate to return to Victoria!

I had an amazing stay at Magnolia and I cannot wait to visit again. The location is perfect, close to everything. The staff all went above and beyond and made my birthday getaway trip something that I will never forget. The room was perfect; I cannot say enough good things about the style and design of the room, not to mention the deep soaking bathtub!

Google
Great location in downtown Victoria. Tons to explore (and eat) within walking distance. Staff were attentive and super helpful with anything we needed. Standard room was spacious with big windows to see the surrounding area. Comfortable bed and bedding. Premium products and amenities in the bathroom. Good coffee and tea options in the room. It’s a nice hotel. You’re paying a premium for location. It’s worth it. I’d stay again.

Google
The cutest hotel! My wife and I spent a few nights here for our wedding anniversary and absolutely loved it. Beautiful, spacious rooms… lovely reception staff… everything was great. Also a very short walk to the water (our room also had a partial water view which I was pleasantly surprised by). Definitely recommend this place if you’re looking for a cute spot in Victoria.

When I went through customs at the airport, the agent asked which hotel I will be staying at and I said The Magnolia and she could not stop raving about how wonderful this hotel is. I can now understand why! ||Pros:|- beautiful updated rooms and bathroom|- room was stocked with high quality toiletry and a Dyson blow dryer |- the robes were so soft and cozy|- wonderful staff |- AMAZING AMENITIES (spa, restaurant, and in walking distance so many bookstores) ||The spa was truly amazing and one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. I had a facial with Chanel and she was so sweet and so helpful. I didn’t even look in the mirror after she finished and I just knew my skin looked amazing because I felt so much lighter. ||The Courtney Room was fantastic! Our server was so sweet and super helpful. ||Cons:|- very noisy, even though we were on the 7th floor we could still hear all the street noise and nearby bars |- the only reason this isn’t a full 5 stars is due to the lack of sleep I got. Every night I was woken up by neighboring guests being loud or the street noise outside ||TLDR: great overall experience :)

My partner and I had a wonderful stay at the Magnolia Hotel & Spa during our recent Victoria getaway. While The Fairmont Empress might be more well-known, our research told us that a hotel of its size and age would likely mean smaller, less updated rooms and maintenance challenges. The Magnolia proved to be the perfect choice. The Magnolia exceeded our expectations! During our two-night mid-week stay, every interaction was seamless — from the efficient valet service and smooth check-in process to attentive housekeeping and hassle-free checkout. Rather than dining at The Courtney Room restaurant, we took advantage of Victoria's fantastic walkable dining scene. Our only minor comfort issue was the room temperature — even with the AC running, we found ourselves opening the windows as wide as they would go for that lovely coastal breeze. Fair warning though: the harbor seagulls are incredibly chatty and apparently never sleep! LOL One small disappointment: our car was returned from the valet absolutely covered in bird droppings — quite a lot! While I understand the hotel can't control wildlife, it was surprising to receive our vehicle in such a different condition than we'd left it. Would we return to the Magnolia Hotel & Spa? Absolutely! It's the perfect balance of intimate boutique charm while keeping you right in the heart of everything Victoria has to offer.

Yelp
We had a wonderful stay at the magnolia hotel, which is right in the heart of downtown Victoria. Walking distance to the Empress, Old town, China town, the Harbour, Parliament (and a bunch of other popular landmarks). The room was very clean. There were welcome cookies and drinking water (yay). I appreciated that the crib was already set up with a child's blanket too (I've been to other hotels where they didn't provide any covers). So moving on to the bathroom...The bathroom was quite impressive! There was a bathtub AND standing shower. Foaming bath soap was provided too (like they really want you to use the bathtub). I loved how the toiletries were L'occitane products and smelled so good. I used the bathtub (ofcourse!) and dear god that bathrobe was like sitting in a pillow. Very soft and comfy. It was great. The downside to staying at this hotel was the noice. I'm not sure if it's because we were on the 2nd floor or because we were facing a resto/pub but it was pretty noisy at night and that made it hard to fall asleep. Other than that, I highly recommend you try the restaurant at the hotel for breakfast. It was delish!

Yelp
Simply wonderful hotel. Extremely attentive staff, beautiful rooms, lovely hotel, gorgeous and memorable experience. The spa bathroom was delightful, the spacious room with turn down service was top-notch. Highly recommend this hotel.

Yelp
Wow wow wow I can't say enough about this hotel! I planned a "momcation" solo getaway from Seattle and had the best time. I chatted with the team by email and social media prior to arrival, and they were so kind and responsive. When I arrived, I was warmly greeted, and was notified I was upgraded! My signature diamond room, legislative view was everything I could have hoped for - an amazing bathroom (the tub was so relaxing), a comfy bed, the most amazing hotel bathrobe ever, and stunning views of parliament. The housekeeping staff was so kind and always greeted me as I came and went from my adventures. The Courtney Room dining options were wonderful! I had room service for dinner and picked up breakfast. The food was top notch, especially the Hokkaido scallops and the shakshuka for breakfast. Last but not least, run don't walk to the spa! I had the magnolia signature treatment and oh my gosh it was wonderful! Spa treats are one of my favorite splurges to do, and this one was incredible. It started with a massage, facial, sugar scrub and soak in a hydrotherapy tub with 62 jets. My massage therapist was the sweetest! All in all, it was such a lovely getaway. I'm scheming my next one, and will definitely be purchasing one of their epic bathrobes!

Yelp
After getting married last weekend in Seattle, my partner and I booked a three night "mini-moon" in Victoria BC at the Magnolia Hotel and Spa and our experience was exceptional from beginning to end. After the hurricane of friends and family in town for the entire previous week and then taking the early morning Clipper ferry up from Seattle, we were emotionally and energetically bankrupt. Sophie at the front desk recognized our fatigue immediately and was able to accommodate an early check-in (no promises here for any readers, this was a Tuesday morning so not sure how it goes on busier days). The room was clean and beautiful, the bed cozy AF, and the room service food from the Courtney Room was some of the best hotel fair we've had (we got the 48 hour bone-in short rib for two). We literally did not leave our room on day one cuz why would you? We also had amazing hour-long massages at their spa the next day (shout out to Hannah) and made a wonderful new friend in the Courtney Room's bartender Mackenzie who gave us all the local insider pro tips. Also just cuz, another shout-out to Sophie at the front desk for her warmth and attention. We were lucky to interact mostly with her though everyone there are total pros. Bottom line: Amazing four star hotel for half the cost of the Empress which allowed us to spend big on so many other wonderful businesses and experiences in Victoria. Will definitely be back.

Ana A.

Yelp
Their customer service is not prepared. Its the second time that I come here, and they treat me like they are doing me a favor... maybe its my accent? Next time, I will get an airbnb.

Yelp
Wow, the reality is not using travel points I could never afford this place. It is beautiful. Our room was a city view queen and it is nice, big and clean. The shower is amazing, though a tub would be nice as well. The bed is comfy, so those are my big concerns dealt with. The room is fully stocked (pay). Everyone was very friendly, they even lend bikes to tour the city. The wife enjoyed the spa, it was just a great time! I will say I think we were 10 years younger than most there. Also the valet service is great, cant forget that!

Yelp
What a wonderful find! My husband and I went to Victoria for a little getaway before Christmas and booked this gem. We found the Magnolia to be elegant and unpretentious-all staff were warm and welcoming and our room was so comfortable and well-appointed. Special shout-out to Alfonso, duty mgr for taking such good care of guests. We will be back. Believe me-much better than the Empress.

Yelp
I love this hotel for so many reasons! What a great find. Let me begin at the beginning. Front desk, valet and bellman were all top notch with a great professionalism and perfect hospitality. The hotel itself is really nicely decorated. The lobby welcomes you with hot cider or your choice of tea and fresh apples. Security in the elevator provided by use of the room key to access your floor. We had a beautiful top floor room that felt like a Parisian apartment with high ceilings, crown molding and sophisticated decor but that's not even the best part. The view from the giant picture windows is absolutely spectacular. The bathroom is worth the visit. Deep soak tubs with bubble bath provided along side a great shower. The only hotel I have been to with a Dyson hair dryer that dried my hair in less than half the time. The best hotel robes I have found and even great snacks. Valet parking is additional $30 canadian per day. The hotel has a nice attached restaurant with gluten free options and creative food. It also has a beautiful spa. Please treat yourself to a truly high quality hotel experience and enjoy the Magnolia.

Yelp
A beautiful hotel. Well appointed. Good location. Very nice. Would stay there again. ..................

Yelp
Excellent boutique hotel. Great location. Lots of shopping and services nearby. Pet Friendly.
google avatar

Yelp
This boutique hotel was located in the bustling area of downtown. Parking is an additional $30 which is reasonable. My bf had booked this room based on the looks on the internet. As far as how everything went, I'll walk you through it all. Stepping out of the car, I was immediately greeted. Checking in was easy but the downfall was that the person checking me in did not mention any amount - how much I was being charged, parking or the hold on the card. That rubs me the wrong way so much! I stayed in room 610. I unwinded. Took a nap, drank wine and left the hotel to hit the town before dark. I came back and noticed someone had been in our room. I was not expecting any room service, but they hung our coats, covered our wine and reset the bathroom since we had moved some things around. It was a nice touch. Beds were comfy. Shower head had a good pressure to it which is nice. I did like the light senor in the bathroom as you walked in. A dyson blowdryer? Unheard of at any hotel I've been to! Nice touch. I loved how they had the fridge stocked with personals and sodas. Other than the check in process, the hotel was nice and welcoming and I would come back.

Yelp
Great hotel In prime location downtown Victoria. You can easily walk to pretty much anything! We stayed for two nights and would definitely stay here again. Check in was easy and the room was very clean, there was also A/C which was a bonus. The only thing was I wish there was a bathtub! The Courtney room restaurant had fantastic breakfast and they also have valet parking or underground public parking across the street.

Dylan M.

Yelp
Everything about my experience here was top notch. The staff were all highly trained and professional providing everything you needed. The interior design of the hotel and the rooms was exceptional. The staff remembered me by name when I returned back from touring around to inform me they had made the dinner reservation I had requested. And the fact my room was upgraded one level didn't hurt. The hotel was so quiet and relaxing I never heard a sound from the room and rarely even saw other guests. The attached bar restaurant was lovely as well. I just had a glass of wine but the bartender was exceptional. While it's not the grande or on the water (1 block from each) selecting this hotel was the best decision I made the entire vacation.

Yelp
Dear Magnolia Hotel, I travel quite often, in fact, I travel about 1/3 of the year, maybe more. Many a night I spend curled up in a hotel bed, but not many nights are spent as enjoyable as this one was. Upon my entry to the lobby (early afternoon on November 6th), I was greeted by really charming staff members. They accommodated my request to be checked in early and put me in the best room available. Upon entering the suite I was so excited! There was a fireplace, cozy bed, beautiful linens and a gorgeous window with a wonderful seating area. Everything was truly a step above and this Boutique Hotel will win over anyone. Truly! Anyone! I dare you to go there and not have a good time. I told a few people about my trip since I've gotten home to San Diego, and have recommended your property highly to them with raves of the wonderful room service, the thoughtful touches throughout the room (like turn down service, fluffy robes, apples, chocolates, quality coffee, etc) and it's an excellent location downtown to boot. I even retired from sightseeing early in the evening to enjoy the fireplace and dessert in my room. A special note to the chef concerning the beignets and cardamom ice cream: Truly superb!! What a treat! Of all the places I've stayed this year, this one is in my top three. It's a great value for what you get, and boutique hotels (I believe) are far superior to large property despite whatever points or status you may be signed up for. Nothing compares to truly thoughtful amenities... and things like hot tea in the lobby and chocolates on your pillow each night is what I would choose any day.

Yelp
We liked a lot about this hotel. It's in a grand location, right next to the overpriced, overblown Empress. The room was clean, the air conditioning worked, and the staff was friendly. Unfortunately, we could too easily hear our neighbors, and the beds were really hard. Between the lady laughing in the room next to us, the toilet flushing above us, and the people walking around on our ceiling, it was tough to relax at times in the room. For this reason, we wouldn't return. Also, the beds were concrete. While attempting to sleep, I did a lot of tossing and turning because the arm of the side I was sleeping on kept going numb. In the morning, I had a sore back. My wife was sore too. Beds in nice hotels should not hurt.

Yelp
Wonderful stay. Great location. They gave us an upgrade! How sweet. The room was spacious and quiet. There were slippers and robes. Umbrella, and a reusable bag! What?! The bathroom was really spacious and had a tub in addition to a shower. They included items for a bubble bath. If I came with my husband, I think I would definitely have used the bubble bath. I also liked that it was connected to a nice restaurant which we dine at a couple times.

Yelp
If you can get a room with a view, do it! Those views of the government building and the Fairmont are swoon worthy. The boutique hotel is quite nice, with large, well designed rooms and super comfy beds. The shower is wonderful with nice bath products as well! I love the chocolates and the large carafe of water to keep you hydrated, along with the nespresso machine for a morning zing! They provide a complimentary continental breakfast which is not awesome. I know, I'm complaining about free breakfast, but it's so weak, why bother. Stale sad pastries from potentially Cotsco, hard boiled eggs from a huge bag, pretty flavorless oatmeal, and so on. Again, it's free, but I'd rather of saved $5 off the hotel. With check-in, you receive a comped app coupon from the restaurant below as well, but sadly we didn't end up utilizing it. Staff is on it, answering questions and greetings. Wifi was solid. Great location. Umbrellas to use for those rainy days. Parking lot nearby, but ample street parking. Magnolia is definitely a top contender for a Victoria stay!

Yelp
Amazing experience! My best friend and I wanted a weekend getaway to Victoria. We wanted a boutique luxury hotel and the Magnolia did not disappoint. We arrived early on a Saturday and we knew our room would not be ready yet, but we wanted to drop our stuff off and valet our car. The front desk and all staff was exceptional. Very welcoming, friendly, and helpful. Check in is originally at 4pm. We arrived at 11:30am, our room wasn't ready but they will text us when our room would be. To our surprise we get a text at 12:30pm that our room was ready but we were having lunch. We walked back at 1:30 to get our room. We received an upgrade on the top floor with a great water view, though originally we had requested a two queen beds we got a king bed instead, we didn't mind. The room was lovely, very clean, and the bed was very comfortable. We love the special touches, from the apples and chocolates in the room, bubble bath, turning down the bed and so many other little things. The lobby also offers coffee, tea, fruits and pastries in the morning. I love the ambiance of this hotel. The location is prime, centrally located, walking distance to everything you need in downtown Victoria. They have a spa and gym facilities which we didn't use. We had breakfast at the restaurant "The Courtney" opened at 6:30am. I booked this two night hotel stay on Expedia and also received VIP with $25 credit towards food in the hotel which was icing on the cake. Overall, it was five star experience and we will be back.

Yelp
Great location! Smaller boutique hotel which I love. Rooms are spacious, luxurious and peacefully quiet. Would definitely stay there again on next trip to Victoria.

May B.

Yelp
We spent a lovely night in this boutique hotel in downtown Victoria. The staff were lovely. Courteous and helpful. The lobby was small but really nice for sitting in for a coffee (or apple cider) or just looking at books/art/fireplace. Business facilities were sufficient. Small but clean rec room and sauna. There is a restaurant in the building with room service which looked decent but we took the opportunity to visit some of our favorite places in the nearby vicinity. Walking distance to all of downtown Victoria and convenient services/transit. Definitely recommend!

Coco C.

Yelp
I stayed here for four nights. The service is good I suppose, but no one comes to clean your room at all. (Covid-19 restrictions) they say. Lol. So my stay was just over $1,000. I never saw a Housekeeper. Not once. They did say due to Covid-19 they would only after a full 3 nights enter your suite. By that time I have so much garbage from recyclables such as pop cans, water etc it was over-flowing. Then my bill was under the door on my last day. A full sheet asked how much I wanted to Tip Housekeeping. Well they have never ever even entered my room. Not for a single thing. I'm paying $225.00 a night just for the room. So I feel bad because on a daily basis I would leave at a minimum $5-10. All those days I was there no one took out the garbage or even my room service trays. Honestly, just stay at a cheaper Hotel instead of a boutique Hotel if you're not getting the service.

Yelp
I booked this AMAZING hotel for my first time in Canada and I'm so glad I did!! Every single person at the magnolia hotel & spa made everything so special. I made reservations and special requests for little personal surprise touches to be in our room upon our arrival for my boyfriend's birthday and they really came through!! We stayed for 4 days and 3 nights and the experience was so great! My boyfriend was so impressed and I couldn't have done it all without the help of the front desk staff. We even got checked in to our room early and our bags were held while they were finishing up all the extra special touches when we arrived. Every morning after cleaning services were done we got a new bottle of fresh water and chocolates! The bathroom was always stocked and cleaned so well. The ice machine was easy to get to and the elevator was quick and never had any delays! I loved the location of the hotel as well! We stayed in room 504 and the view was awesome, I loved the huge windows. Overall my hotel experience was so great! I loved the luxury robes and complimentary slippers. All the little details that the hotel had exceeded all my expectations and made my first time in Canada such a great experience! I will be back at this hotel the next time I'm in Victoria! Thank you all!!

Diana M.

Yelp
We booked a room for two nights direct through the hotel website and upon arrival were informed there was a "glitch" and they overbooked and there was no room available for us. Awkward. Fairmont was booked, Grand Pacific was booked. They scrambled and found us a room at the Delta Marriot, an ADA room which was really odd for us, but we took it because we were tired and just wanted a room. They made things right for us by paying for the first night but quite frankly I would've rather stayed at the Fairmont or a nicer, better located hotel rather than being the victim of the "overbooked" bait and switch game.

Yelp
REVIEW #3700! Mmmmmm..... Girl we've been at work all week Fingers to the bone we need A little hit of you and me A little time alone All day I've been thinkin' about Quitting early, skipping out And haulin' ass to hit the Room And hang with you at the Magnolia .......so baby I don't know about you but I'm ready to roll! Gayle V. and I spent a wonderful Victoria Day Weekend at the Magnolia. In fact, she's still raving about here experience here, in terms of the View, the Comfort, the Roominess, the nice Continental Breakfast, the spot-on Service, her soft Bathrobe, and of course the Aveda Products in the Bathroom. As you can also see from her separate Yelp review, she was very pleased. That's high praise as she's very particular about Hotels, and hearing "This Will Not Do" from her could have cast a dark cloud on this romantic getaway. The Hotel has 64 rooms and is centrally located just a few blocks up from the Inner Harbour. I booked the Signature Corner Room at the 30/30 Rate and it was a great value for the money. This type of room is 395 square feet, offers a postcard view of the Parliament Buildings, features floor to ceiling windows, and has safe door and window openings to let the fresh air and light in. There's also free Wi-Fi, a nice work desk (if I were here on Business), generous Cable TV offerings, plenty of comfortable sitting space, complimentary local calls, and a shower with plenty of hot water and pressure. Our only regret is that we didn't have the chance to have the complete Magnolia Experience. That includes the Prime Steakhouse and the Magnolia Spa. Both are probably destinations in themselves, and I guess Gayle and I will have to try them out the next time we're here. And we will be back!

Yelp
Wonderful boutique feeling hotel. Excellent service from the time we pulled up to curb. Our oversized SUV was parked for free in a spot just outside the parking structure. Very much appreciated their efforts to take care of our parking needs. Our room was delightful. Cozy bed and beautiful bathroom with everything you might need. We were within walking distance to awesome movie theater with the most amazing seating. Great food places were all around as well. Loved staying here and would highly recommend.

Yelp
Loved this hotel. Everything was perfect, the rooms were beautiful with great high quality appliances, the breakfast was out of this world (best breakfast I've ever had). Accessible and walkable to good places. Will be coming back!

Yelp
Beautiful Hotel with the best service! From the booking to check out the service my family and I received from your hotel was cheerful and accommodating. Genuinely nice people work here! The rooms were immaculate and plush. The location is perfect for walking around and taking in all the Victoria sights. Thank you Magnolia Hotel and staff for making out visit to Victoria so much more charming.

Yelp
Love Magnolia Spa. The staff are very kind especially Angela who is incredibly gifted (facials, massage). Definitely recommend.

Yelp
I was so torn when deciding where to stay in Victoria. I finally opted for the Magnolia Hotel over the Fairmont Empress and I am happy that I did. The staff were friendly and helpful. The location could not have been better. We walked the entire city. The room was nice and the bed was super comfortable. The only complaint I have is regarding the wifi. Cellular packages are expensive in Canada so I was counting on using the hotel's wifi. It did not work unless I was in my room and if I forgot to download our destination before leaving the room, I had to go back up the elevator to do so. Get wifi for the lobby and restaurant please!

Yelp
Is everyone in Victoria kind and happy? We just loved every person we met from the moment we arrived at the airport: the taxi driver, tthe hotel staff, the breakfast servers, and total strangers on the street. Everyone, everyone, absolutely EVERYONE was so congenial and helpful. The Magnolia is situated a couple of blocks from the harbor on Courtney Street within walking distance of the major sites. The rooms have a soft décor of grays and white with all the comforts. Complimentary water, apples, coffee, and tea are in the room along with a small refrigerator and a bar sink. Since it was our anniversary, the hotel kindly wrote us a sweet note and gave us a small bottle of local sparkling wine. We stayed n room 604 with a partial view of the harbor. The Customs building is being rebuilt and it sits right smack in front of the big bay window blocking most of the view. The king size bed was very comfortable and a gas fireplace offers a warm and cozy ambiance for those rainy nights. The high quality toiletry amenities are from L'Occitane. The hotel offers a very satisfying continental breakfast included in the price. Our server, Alessio, was superb, remembering what we enjoyed every morning. Don't miss eating at their fine restaurant, The Courtney. It is stupendous. (see review) Chef Chris and server Nick made our anniversary celebration a very special and fun experience. Order the Tasting Menu for a bit of true delights. We also had massages at the spa located next door, and they were also first rate. All of the staff go out of their way to be helpful, offering hints on where to go and what to do while visiting this lovely city. Umbrellas are provided and the robes in the room are the softest ever. I highly recommend the Magnolia. You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
My husband had never been to Victoria, so I wanted to make our trip special. There were no rooms available at the Empress, so I researched other nearby hotels and found the Magnolia. I am so glad I did! The Magnolia is wonderfully located, but quiet and easy to access. Courtney Street is not terribly busy, so it was very easy to pull up out front for the valet. All of the staff were very friendly, and they always greeted us with a smile when we left or came back. Our room was spacious and lovely, with a perfect view of the Parliament building. There were nice touches, like chocolates at night, and a bottle of filtered water in our room every day. Breakfast was included with our room, which was convenient. There were always tables available, too. The Magnolia is easy walking distance to everything. If I return to Victoria, I wouldn't bother looking anywhere else. I'd book the Magnolia.

Yelp
This is a lovely hotel, with spacious, well-appointed rooms, a comfortable lobby, good location, and gracious staff. Unfortunately, it also has extremely thin walls, and apparently is pet-friendly, which normally I would like--except that it has meant we've been listening to multiple dogs scream-barking at the top of their lungs for hours. Meanwhile, we can easily hear the conversations of guests in adjacent rooms. Frankly, I can't believe other reviewers didn't find the noise problems to be a serious issue.

Yelp
Found this hotel on Yelp while researching our recent trip to Victoria. Most of the reviews noted the amazing attentiveness of the staff and great location, with comfortable rooms in a smaller, boutique setting. We were choosing between the iconic Fairmont Empress and the Magnolia, but chose the Magnolia because the beds looked newer and the hotel seemed less likely to have people tromping through it at all hours of the day and night. They allowed us to store our bags since we got there early and planned on walking around before check-in, and even set us up to text us when our room was ready. When the text came, we were delighted to learn that they had already brought our bags up to the room! We also had a bottle of sparkling cider on ice waiting for us with a lovely card wishing us a happy Babymoon, which was a great and personal touch. Would have been nicer if it were champagne, but I get it with the baby and all :) We had several occasions to ask for assistance from the front desk: for dinner recommendations, help with our toilet (!), sight-seeing arrangements, and assistance to the airport, and received top-notch customer service every single time. The room was spacious and comfortable, and the continental breakfast served at the Courtney Room was filling and delicious. We would definitely stay here again on our next visit to Victoria (though next time we will have a little one!).

Yelp
There are two types of hotels I stay at when I travel. 1. Cheap, sketchy flop-houses, and 2. Awesome high-end boutiques In fact, I've stayed at plenty of both, and Magnolia falls squarely into the latter. In a fancy city like Victoria BC, a burg that's clean, upscale and steeped in history, The Magnolia fits right in. Located centrally to all of the tourist and business attractions of downtown Victoria, it's perfectly situated for both business and leisure travelers. Amenities such as an onsite spa, complimentary continental breakfast buffet, in-room tubs, luxe robes and slippers, seating areas, and expert hospitality make for a great leisure stay. We checked in here for a 4-nighter for a mix of business and pleasure. Greeted with a bottle of wine, a box of chocolates and a hand-signed welcome card, I knew I was in a place run by folks who know what the little things can mean to a tired, travel-weary soul. Nothing quite makes me feel unwelcome like being treated as "Guest No. 57 of 300", especially if I'm paying a decent rate for my stay. Magnolia knew just which buttons to push to make me feel an individual welcome. This boutique hotel has only 7 floors of rooms and even the queen rooms have a nice, open feel to them. Ours offered a small fridge (with mini-bar), a comfy queen bed with plenty of pillows, a couple of chairs in a seating nook, large open windows, a big bathroom with both a tub and a standing shower and a separate wet bar area (and of course a flat screen TV and dresser). Our view was of a parking structure and some city to the north but I believe that some rooms offer views of the harbor. The bath amenities are all Aveda and the towels plush. The staff was quick to offer umbrellas on rainy days, respond to various requests for information or help (like when I needed some tape and a sharpie to pack and address a box for shipping), and greet us every time we passed. There's even a daily turn-down service with a little offering of chocolates. Awww. The style is classic and plush. It's done in a style that evokes a historic nature even though it's not a historic hotel. It definitely blends right in with the vibe of the surrounding city. The Magnolia scores on both comfort and quality levels. I'd easily stay here again, especially at the rate I got (conference special) but would pay even more if need be.

Yelp
This was a lovely hotel with wonderful staff. We were upgraded to a deluxe room, which had a nice view of the Parliament building. The beds were comfortable the the l'occitane bath products were very nice. The Dyson hair dryer was awesome too! We used the bikes several times, and appreciated the staff who helped us get situated with helmets and appropriate seat heights. When my husband got a flat, Lee Tang who worked the front desk driver her personal car and picked him up. Again, great customer care. Breakfast each day was wonderful. The continental breakfast that came with our room was more than sufficient. The tea rivaled that at the Empress; the yogurt and granola was great. The pastry basket was so good (esp scones!) and the berry smoothie was a nice addition. I had the Magnolia Signature spa treatment and it was wonderful, and well priced for the service. I would return to the spa for sure. All in all, we were more than pleased with our stay at the Magnolia and wouldn't hesitate to recommend staying there.

Yelp
Hearts, butterflies... in my mind there are fireworks in the sky over Victoria when I opened the door to my suite. In my room there were welcome Rogers Chocolates, a bottle of water and an apple all waiting. The bed comfy, cozy. The shower AND tub, beautiful. The Aveda amenities, of course, I'm a fan. The view, swoon. And then they gave me two breakfast vouchers, complete with make your own waffles! Make your own waffles people! (Okay, I confess, I didn't eat the waffles, see previous review on Wannawafel, but the fact that it was even an option made my morning.) But that's didn't make the butterflies and fireworks soar as high as ... The service. From the friendly valet who assured me my car would be safe in the underground ($15 a day, FYI), to the front desk attendant who checked me in and honoured the rate I'd been quoted over the phone, to the friendly staff in the hallways, saying good night or good morning to me, ordering room service (get the double baked potato if you're craving a carb), I felt at home here. Fingers crossed that I'll get to be back in Victoria again soon!

Yelp
A co-worker once selected a package deal at this location for a couple of days with his then girlfriend. He highly recommended this hotel. So much so that I quickly bookmarked it in Yelp. Then, I watched, green with envy as Don B., our community manager, reviewed this location. I was then teeming with anticipation of our trip to the hotel. We rode the ferry over and immediately drove to the hotel. The concierge was quite friendly and helpful and soon we had checked in and we looked out at our view of parliament and the Empress hotel and drank the complimentary wine and watched the sunset. We enjoyed the king sized bed and the bathroom with lovely Aveda products. There is also a small refrigerator with items for purchase. The flat screen television was perfect on this Monday for football (not soccer) in HD. This place comes with turn down service complete with chocolate. I would have loved to stay another night but alas, we needed to get back to the USA. I would definitely recommend this place and stay here again. Watch their website for package deals.

Yelp
First time visitor to Victoria we stayed at Magnolia for three nights. It's great location a few blocks walking distance to many beautiful sites. They really understand customer service and treated us very well. Everyone was attentive and interested to know how they could help us. Check-in was easy and staff provided information about amenities and local attractions to consider. Spa water and complimentary coffee and tea are provided in the lobby at all times. Rooms were nicely appointed and roomy as well as quiet. Beds were comfortable with four pillows each. They also offer turn down service. There is only one ice machine on second floor and they gladly bring ice to your room with just a phone call. Magnolia is doing it right and I highly recommend this hotel for your next stay.

Yelp
I've stayed at the Magnolia several times now and have to tell you that it has been a veRy pleasant experience each time. The accommodations are lovely, the staff are friendly and very helpful, the Courtenay Room food is fantastic all while being very centrally located!! I highly recommend this lovely boutique hotel in downtown Victoria.

Yelp
This was one of the best hotels I've stayed in, anywhere in the world. While many hotels are comfortable, clean, and luxurious, it is the staff that really sets a hotel apart, and from the time we arrived, we could tell the staff was absolutely amazing. Everyone was very friendly and willing to go the extra mile without holding their hand out for a tip. The room itself was large, comfortable, impeccably clean, and the extra little touches, such as a birthday card and box of chocolates, really made us feel welcomed. The continental breakfast was quite good, with a large selection such as baked goods, cereals/oatmeal, meats & cheeses, and even a waffle maker. There was a better juice selection than I've seen in most hotels, and everything was promptly restocked during breakfast hours. The lobby was nice to look at, as well as comfortable, with several plush chairs and a couch, as well as a fireplace. There was also a piano, and they had live music periodically during our stay. They also offered coffee and tea all day, as well as hot cider and seasonal cookies, as we were there over Christmas. The room service from Prime was absolutely amazing! The food was better than any hotel room service we've ordered before, and it was brought warm and with a smile. The valet parking was inexpensive compared to other hotels/cities, and our car was always brought around promptly and treated with respect. I do wish that I could review the Spa separately from the Hotel because I had a less than desirable experience with the receptionist, but I can't allow that to detract from how well the Hotel staff treated us. While I would not return to the Spa, I would gladly return to the Hotel - and hope that we will soon!

Yelp
The Magnolia Hotel & Spa is simply elegant, tastefully furnished, and completely inviting. We were warmly welcomed from minute one of our arrival. Every staff member we encountered was professional, polite, and passionate. The hotel's location was a huge bonus--you can walk easily to most places of interest, bars and restaurants. Not once during our weekend in Victoria did we need to find transportation. Given its central location, however, you may prefer a room on one of the upper floors--especially if you are a light sleeper. While our corner room on the second floor was spacious and comfortable, it also faced a brightly lit parking garage and sat at an intersection that saw heavy pedestrian traffic of the happy-drunk kind. ;) Our room was also situated directly above the hotel's restaurant/bar, so at closing time we could hear the occasional clang and bump as stuff was moved around. We did not find this reason enough to lodge a complaint, though, because our room was a complimentary upgrade, which was a cool surprise! We adored the lovely welcome in our room, i.e. glass bottle of water, two apples, and two pieces of chocolate (see pic). I like that they ended their previous practice of providing plastic bottles of water in the name of environmental protection. The inclusion of a recycling can in our room was appreciated. I would love Magnolia to take their commitment to the environment one step further by replacing the bulbs in all their lighting fixtures with LED ones. The complimentary breakfast at the restaurant: the options, while not plentiful, sufficed for our needs. If you are a typical American tourist, please bear in mind that Canadian restaurants may not feel compelled to provide the gargantuan food portions that you are accustomed to. We thoroughly enjoyed our breakfasts on both mornings. The food was fresh, prepared well, and presented in a visually appealing way. Service was top-notch and non-invasive. The Spa. You must make an appointment at the Spa. Let me repeat that: you MUST make an appointment at the Spa. Ask for Drew. His magical hands decimated every single muscle ache that I had felt before my massage. Totally rejuvenating and revitalizing! Drew, if you ever read Yelp reviews and see this one, I want you to know that I still wish I did kidnap you home with me. :)

Yelp
What a great stay! I was here for 2 weeks for work and stayed at this hotel. After reading all the great reviews, I was excited to check this place out. Checked in and got to my room where I was greeted with a robe, slippers, glass bottle of water, apples and chocolates. Can't say I've been to many hotels where I've seen this many goodies. The toiletries were from l'occitane and smelled divine. The room came with its own hot water kettle, selection of tea and a nespresso machine. In the mornings, they had out fresh fruit in the lobby and a wide selection of teas and coffee. In the evenings, they have out their own batch of in house tea with extra spices and fruit. Overall such a great place to stay. It's definitely comparable to my favourite downtown vancouver hotel - pac rim. Staff are super friendly, always willing to help. Will be coming back again for work later this year - looking forward to staying here again!

Yelp
Stayed here on our weekend trip to Victoria. the hotel has a great location downtown. It's close to all the shops and the wharf. About a 10 minute walk to the Clipper terminal. The staff was very friendly and helpful with food and tourist spots. The continental breakfast and room service was a plus. they also have nightly turn down service with chocolates on the pillow. We will definitely be back here for our next trip!

Yelp
The hotel was great for many reasons. Can't beat the location! It really is a couple blocks from everything and is small, calm and intimate. Comfortable beds, tasteful and updated decor. Another selling point is also having a good shower. Nice staff and quiet rooms. The corner room had two sitting chairs with ottomans that were very relaxing to sit in and they had super fluffy warm robes. (Would love one for winters in Portland) They don't advertise that they have a free breakfast, it's nice when you want to get going quickly but nothing really special. We did try the spa treatments with mixed reviews. We did a couples hot stone massage. Mine was good not great but my husband didn't feel his was very good. She didn't cover as many areas as my person did and spent too much time in one area. Since we were in a room together he didn't want to say anything and disturb my massage. He looked at the business cards when we left and they were not licensed masseuses but something like a spa technician. I would definitely go back and stay here but might try a different spa.

Yelp
Stayed here in 2013 and it was fabulous! Would love to go back to see if it's still as wonderful. They gave us chocolates and a card for our anniversary. Walkable to most every destination in the city.

Yelp
Such a nice hotel to stay in Victoria! Everything is located within walking distance and the staff are friendly and courteous. Their personal touch in the room, such as a couple of chocolate with bottled water and two apples, is top-notch customer service! The room was super clean (I loved their linens and towels!) and the entire hotel seems to be nicely renovated. Oh and the wi-fi system in the room was superb! It was so fast and easy to connect. I also love their complimentary continental breakfast buffet vouchers; we are vegans so we wouldn't be able to enjoy all the food there but the food there should be able to please all guests. :-) I will definitely go back there when I visit Victoria again and I highly recommend this hotel to everyone!

Yelp
The best hotel to stay at when visiting Victoria! We've been here a couple of times and always had a great stay. The location of the hotel is central and walking distance to the ferry terminal/harbour area and many great restaurants. The hotel rooms are super clean and modern. We loved the gas fire place in our room (cozy!) and the room had complimentary high-end products including lots of l'occitane verbena items and a Nespresso machine with several different coffee capsules to try. Seriously, most hotels have keurig if you are lucky...Nespresso is so much nicer and sustainable, thank you Magnolia! One piece of advice for the hotel...your sign looka a bit dated when you see the hotel from the harbour area. It doesn't do the style and elegance of the hotel justice and it could do with an update. Other than that, 5 stars!

Yelp
The Magnolia Hotel and Spa has by far been our best experience yet. The staff goes above and beyond. Their customer service is second to none. It's on another level. The rooms are clean, comfortable and so welcoming. Literally nothing but excellence all around.

Yelp
Is this a good area for going out to bars at night and what is the pricing for the alcohol in the room as of the spa treatment?

Yelp
Updated tasteful decor in the room. Room and coffee maker were spotless clean. Best of all, the staff at reception and in the restaurant were very friendly and helpful. If you are gluten free or have food preferences they are very accommodating.
