The Mahjong Hostel

Fantastic little hostel at a prime location 😊. The staff is absolutely lovely and makes sure you enjoy your stay. The facilities are clean (toilet, room, common area). There is a little kitchen and some couches where you can chill with other guests. The dorms have card lockers for each bed and curtains for privacy. I would recommend it for sure 😊

This hostel is an excellent budget travel option in Hong Kong 🇭🇰 clean rooms, bathrooms, and showers 🚿 It’s conveniently located just 10 minutes away from the metro station. 🚉 The staff is welcoming and friendly. However, there’s a slight downside: there’s no sign on the building indicating the hostel entrance. So, if you arrive at night, you’ll have to spend some time searching for it. Additionally, there’s no elevator at the hostel, making it challenging to carry heavy luggage up. The curtains in the dormitory rooms weren’t particularly helpful, as they allowed you to see people inside, especially when the lights were on, which compromised privacy. I recommend changing them to regular curtains. Overall, it’s a great hostel considering the price especially in Hong Kong 😏

The area around the hostel is mostly residential, with lots of schools nearby, so you’ll often see kids walking to and from school. It’s a quiet neighborhood overall, and as a solo female traveler, I felt totally safe walking around, even at night. The hostel itself feels like a good reflection of Hong Kong - crowded, compact, and could use a bit of upkeep. My room had a separate private shower shared among eight girls, which was a nice setup. However, one of the two sinks in our bathroom leaked nonstop. It’s clearly been an ongoing issue because the sink was rusted, such a waste of water. The showers in the main female bathroom were pretty small, with no space to change or hang clothes without everything getting wet. The one I used was right up against a window and rusty railing, which didn’t feel super clean. The hostel is small, which actually makes it easier to meet people since everyone hangs out in the same communal area near the front desk and kitchenette. There’s a mini fridge and microwave for guests, and they provide hair dryers. Each bed also has a small safe that you can access with your key card, which was convenient. The beds themselves were not the most comfortable. The curtain around each bunk is thin and see-through, so there’s basically no privacy. My mattress was also really uncomfortable, I could feel every spring. After realizing other beds in my room had mattress toppers, I asked for one, but the staff didn’t believe me when I said mine didn’t. After checking, they said there weren’t any extras and instead gave me a thin blanket and even a SCARF. It’s a bit concerning that a hostel doesn’t have spare comforters or toppers available. There’s also nowhere to hang wet towels, so everyone ended up draping them around the room, which made it smell pretty bad. It’d be great if they added towel racks or hooks, either in the bathrooms or near the luggage shelves. On the plus side, they offer printing for a small fee (super convenient), and their laundry service is quick, they say it takes a day, but I got my clothes back in under 24 hours. (UPDATE: after years with my bras, the ones they washed are becoming undone and the side of them unglued...? I've had them for years and after they washed them, they ruined two $60 USD bras.... do not wash your undergarments with them) There’s also free water refill in the common area. The couches there could definitely use a deep clean, though. Overall, it’s an okay place for a short stay if you don’t mind tight quarters. The location feels safe and local, and it’s easy to meet people, but the place could use some maintenance and small upgrades to make it more comfortable.

Easy hostel in Kowloon, 3 minutes walk from the metro station. The staff is amazing and incredibly helpful and the place is clean and tidy. There are a few small things that perhaps could be improved, one being cleaning more often the floor of the female dorm which gets pretty dirty and also having curtains to the beds that are more thick and less noisy (as soon as somebody opens one you will wake up). Also the rooms are super small, so if you have a big luggage you will struggle. Finally the place was not super sociable, so keep that in mind in case you are traveling solo. Still I think I would go back if ever in Hong Kong again as I this time I will know what to expect.

It’s strategically placed near an mtr station (to kwa wan station). You wont get lost in the area since it’s easy to find as a HK first time traveler. Despite the location being next to a major road, the place didn’t feel loud at all. The mahjong of the safest hostels ive stayed at. I don’t even bother locking my things up. The staff are great and helpful and accommodating to my hectic schedule. It was also great that they have a list of recommended places to eat around the area (plus a 24hr mcdonald’s within 5min walk for my midnight snacking) The place is also really clean! Specially the common areas. Ample space to sit around. Their couch is extra comfy i even fell asleep a few times. The bathrooms are squeaky clean too.

Nice place for a night or two. Little sketchy stairwell upon entering but a nice place once inside. Price could be better. Good enough location.

The hostel was really nice! Hong Kong is pretty expensive and this place was decently priced with good enough amenities. Location is good imo since nothing is super touristy or overpriced. Plus the A22 takes you directly here so it's not hard to get here. The workers and volunteers are nice and knowledgeable. Rooms had curtains, AC, and female dorm was good. Clean place overall.

This place is very good! The staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms and bed are comfortable, it’s clean. Good price / quality value. I would recommend!
