Isabelle Star LaBlanc's Guide to Minneapolis - AFAR

"Set in the lovely riverside area around St. Anthony Main, Main Cinema is a little, beautiful movie theater that screens a thoughtful lineup of indie and arthouse films and makes for a charming night out." - AFAR

This is such a beautiful theater with wonderful customer service. I can walk here. I cannot believe I have put off going since moving here. I am a fool. I think the last time I was here, it was to see Mad Max: Fury Road in black and white... I have great movie tastes. St. Anthony Main is for great movie theater taste.

Membership here is a great deal and makes inexpensive dates with the wife possible in a new city for us where we are finding it a little too easy to part with money. But I still want to support their mission so we got some concessions today. Normally I just think concession offerings suck for how expensive they are but the pricing here is pretty reasonable, they have Boulangerie Marguerite sandwiches, and the popcorn here is THE BEST movie theater popcorn I’ve ever had—I was pissed that only we got a small lol. They have seasonings for it too including nutritional yeast?! This theater gets it. Undefeated location to take a stroll before or after.

A quaint movie house experience (no reserved seating). Nice staff and good concessions. Some improvements can be made, including theatre seats worn out/ broken, main bathrooms closed, and movie theater #3 projector stopping and starting/skipping during previews and movie today.

Decent ticket price, $11 for a Sunday midday showing. $17 for large drink and popcorn. Previews of upcoming attractions are shown. Not a large crowd at all with open seating.

Independent theater by the water. They are undergoing renovations and the popcorn machine was out of order. Staff was helpful. Theater itself is dated for sure with slightly reclining seats and a slight angle to the screen. But for the money, it was worth the experience. Went for a matinee at 7 bucks and then went back for an evening show in a much bigger and nicer theater for 10 dollars. Parking can be a pain in the butt on a busy weekend night so be ready for that.

This is old school movie watching. I love supporting local. They play a lot of "non-mainstream" movies which I really enjoy. A great little movie theater in an idealic location.

I'm an MSP Film Society member. I find myself going to the Main Cinema often. They have a great mix of mainstream and arthouse programming, often screening a blockbuster film alongside a small international film. They host film festivals throughout the year, all of which are chock full of stimulating pictures. Their marquee and lobby are classic and beautiful, a charming sight as I roll up on my bike and lock out front. Each theater is a little different. Some of the Main's rooms have great seating with central groups of chairs and a gently sloped floor below, some of them have an aisle down the middle and/or steeply sloped floors requiring you to sort of press your foot against the armrest of the row in front of you to sit comfortably. My partner and I like that the armrests raise up so we can cozy up next to each other during a viewing. They have a good range of snacks available too. On top of the staple boxes of candy (M&Ms, Buncha Crunch, etc) they have croissants and other pastries available. And it's fun to drink a can of beer in an older style movie theater.

Very cool theater in a nice location that we got to visit during the film festival.
