This history museum–cum–art center won a Tasmanian Architecture Award in 2010 for its iridescent glass exterior and airy galleries with polished cement floors. Inside, guests can join a papermaking workshop or tour to learn about Burnie’s most famous export. When done, artists in residence are available for a chat, and sepia photographs by Wolfgang Sievers deserve a look. Visitors can also taste cheeses and whiskeys, and take home their favorites as souvenirs or gifts. The on-site Makers’ café is a lovely rest stop for a coffee and a bite surrounded by artwork and the Bass Strait."
