I usually leave positive reviews, but I feel I have to warn other travellers. We paid £530 for two nights and were given Room 25, “The Snug,” which was advertised as a double. In reality, it was nothing of the sort. The room is a dark, windowless box with no ventilation, no wardrobe, no bedside table (a stool) no desk, no chair and barely any space to walk around the bed. There was nowhere to put luggage, clothes, or even a cup of coffee. The bathroom offered little practicality either, with nowhere to hang a towel, adding to the overall sense of poor design and comfort. It felt claustrophobic and simply not fit for purpose. Even staff, who were otherwise very friendly, reacted knowingly with “Oh, you’re in Room 25!” which says it all.
To be fair, the rest of The Maltings is fine... the bar, restaurant and library room are pleasant, and the staff tried wherever possible. But £530 for two nights in a windowless box with such limited facilities is absolutely outrageous. This room should never be advertised as a double.
