"In its previous lives, the pink turreted Southernmost House was a private home, nightclub, and residence for visiting dignitaries, but the Queen Anne mansion is now an adults-only B&B that brims with unexpected history. Built in 1896 by a wealthy Florida family, the electricity was put in under Thomas Edison’s supervision and the club attracted Louis Armstrong, Tallulah Bankhead, and Tennessee Williams; the hotel has also hosted five U.S. presidents as well as the king of Spain . Today, guests will enjoy its location at the quiet end of Duval Street, not far from the green gardens and six-toed cats of the Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum and just a block from the southernmost point of the continental United States marker. The classical lobby and public areas are filled with ornate antique furniture, and uniquely decorated rooms have four-poster beds and antique Oriental rugs. Snag a lounge chair near the Atlantic-facing swimming pool, then meditate on your own past lives under the blazing sun."

Let me preface this review by saying that we enjoyed our stay and this review has nothing to do with any problems with service. We stayed in the detached suite building. Room was beautiful, cool and updated. The grounds and surrounding area is gorgeous. Location was within walking distance to downtown/activities. However, the outside of this hotel is in bad disrepair. Needs a major renovation on the exterior. Also the staff was using loud construction equipment right outside our door. There must have been a wedding booked, because they were building a trellis of some kind. We walked by power tools, cords and woodpiles. That is really our only complaint. Main house was rich in history and beautiful inside. Wonderful staff and service and the complimentary breakfast was perfect for us. Pool was heaven!!!

We had a dream weekend getaway at The Mansion! We stayed in room 201 on 2nd floor with a balcony overlooking the pool, and it was fantastic! Great a/c in the rooms and throughout the house, beautiful heated pool which really does feel nice even on a hot day! Bottled water in the fridge in the dining room, and also a cooler full by the pool, was great to have! The place is gorgeous and rich with history! I would rather stay here -- a family-owned labor of love. A lot goes into maintaining and keeping a place like this standing since the 1890s -- vs. staying at a corporate-owned hotel that doesn't have its heart into giving Key West the personality it's known for. The staff was absolutely wonderful!!! Thank you all for a magical stay! Also, the drink stand out front (owned by same people) is great value and staff is great!

Google
The service was great and the pool and bar were nice. Dean was very welcoming and gave us a nice quick tour! The house has a lot of interesting history as well. I was a little disappointed that there was no beach access from the property. The room was pretty nice however, the shower was leaky, and we had a period with no water. The advertised room cost was $269 but ended up being $375 per day after fees for a standard room plus $30 per day for parking. If it was less expensive, and or had less hidden fees, I would’ve given five stars, but I personally think it was overpriced. We stayed at another hotel a couple of blocks away while we were in Key West that had a pool, jacuzzi, and a similar sized room with all of the same amenities that cost less than $200/night with parking.

We felt like we were visiting our rich, extended family in the midst of the Gilded Age. A truly amazing place with outstanding service and a location that cannot be beat. We stayed in the "turret room" on the third floor, and it was amazing. Huge room with an incredible view. The GM (Nina) was so welcoming. She has a genuine love for the property and its history, which shows in the loving care that is taken of it and how she speaks about it. Being a history buff, I was delighted to be staying at a place that has hosted five US presidents, the former king of Spain, Ernest Hemingway, Al Capone and even Thomas Edison (who oversaw the electrification of the house and gifted them one of the three original phonographs that he created, and that is still on display in the lobby). I've been to Key West many times and this was by far the most enjoyable place that I've stayed.

Thanks to Leslye for a spectacular welcome and tour of the property upon our arrival. We were here for the first time celebrating our honeymoon. The room was private, quiet and lovely, complete with festive rose petal decor and champagne to kick off our stay. The on site breakfast is lovely and the staff is all so friendly and welcoming. The perfect end to our trip in the Keys. We hope to return someday for an anniversary. Thank you again!!

Google
This was the perfect setting for our anniversary- champagne in the room when we arrived and a comfy bed! The property is beautiful and historic- eating breakfast in the mansion was like stepping back in time. We enjoyed our private patio beside what has to be the most beautiful pool in Key West!

This is a beautiful Inn surrounded by the Sea and Key West - couldn't be nicer! Friendly, helpful staff - we love Dean! And best location in Key West! Lovely beds and baths, beautifully appointed rooms - an elegant sumptuous experience! The cafe is delicious dining and the pool is quiet and beautiful. Staying here is so private and lovely yet - steps away from the hustle and bustle of Duval Street and the nicest beach on Key West. Wish I could live here!

Absolutely stunning experience! The location by the sea is breathtaking, offering picturesque views from every angle. The staff is incredibly attentive, making you feel right at home. The rooms are luxurious and well-appointed, with comfy beds and all the amenities you could need. Dining here is a delight, with a menu that is both diverse and delicious! Can't recommend this place enough for a perfect getaway. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
Don't miss this place! We haven't stayed yet (not for lack of trying) but we never miss stopping for a drink and a snack. The grounds are impeccable and welcoming. The view at sunset is off the charts. How about 5-6 bunnies that wander the property for ambiance? We had the pleasure of meeting the proprietor, Michael. Such a joy to speak with and really cares about your experience. He made several food suggestions that were perfect. The food. Come with an appetite because everything is wonderful. Honey biscuits? The fries! Try it all, take some home. Don't miss this place!

Yelp
What great photos in Keys. The room were antique gorgeous.

Yelp
This hotel is one of the most amazing places I have ever stayed. It's located perfectly at the end of Duval St on the water and walking distance to the southernmost point of the US! The staff are friendly and so knowledgeable about not only the hotel, but Key West also. They sent us to a great key lime shop and gave us tips on ways to get around the city cheaply. The cafe that is attached was right on the beach with a beautiful view and the best lobster pizza I have ever had. The owner Michael came around to every table and made sure to meet each of us and ask how our stay was. I would recommended staying here to anyone visiting Key West!

Steven M.

Yelp
Wonderful old house charm with all the comfort and convenience you could want in one of the most beautiful locations on Key West. We had a unique opportunity to stay in several rooms during our visit. Each was a unique experience and we love everything about this amazing house. We enjoyed the outdoor amenities as well, including the heated pool and great views from the house's several balconies. The convenience of the on-site bar and restaurant was much appreciated. The pizzas are the perfect beach-front snack (I loved the salami and hot honey, and everyone else was all about the lobster pizza). And the margaritas and mojitos are perfect, but my go to was the Frozen Key Lime Pie. Southernmost was the perfect home base for a great time in Key West.

Sue S.

Yelp
Absolutely the best part of our trip! The owner himself, made this trip so memorable and we had the best food the island has to offer! The views, the ambience and the home itself are truly amazing!

Yelp
I just spent 6 days in Room 101 and I can say without exaggerating it was the best hotel stay I've had in my entire life. The room, the view, the staff, the location, the food, the pool...everything was 1st class all the way. I will always stay at the Southernmost House Hotel, hopefully room 101 which is 20 feet from the ocean, whenever I visit Key West. I stayed at the Casa Marina, a Waldorf property nearby which is awesome twice last year, and this place blows it away. Stay here...you won't regret it. I love this place so much.

Yelp
Celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary with family we had the good fortune of coming to this beautiful beachside restaurant. As a party of 12 we all blowin away by the quality of the food, atmosphere and high level of hospitality. We will never go back to Key West without stopping here. It is a must.

Yelp
This place is magical! Great history, staff, breakfast in bed every morning! The pool is wonderful. The view and proximity to everywhere is great. Everyone is so friendly. Due to Covid the bar was closed but the beach next door had a cafe where we could get frozen drinks. I highly recommend staying here!

Yelp
I cannot say enough great things about this hotel. What an experience! Incredible architecture, knowledgeable staff, gorgeous views - all right on Duval Street. A must visit!

Yelp
Overall consensus: great, but needs repairs. The good: Nice grounds, beautiful pool, clean rooms. Staff is nice and tries their best to be available as well as keep tourists from wandering around inside your "temporary personal space". The bar is open to the public and makes a great mojitos as well as a fantastic margarita. Towels and waters are provided. As many as you may need. Chairs line the ocean and pool. You never have to fight for a chair. Pictures here turn out amazing because of the ocean view and the house makes a beautiful backdrop. The owner Mike is a wonderful guy and makes a point to talk to any patrons he can while he is around. Friendly bunnies live here! Another great photo opportunity or experience. They love to eat Cheerios and chips :). They will come right up and eat from your hand. Free parking for patrons. The not so good: The southernmost monument is less than 100ft from this house and it is also right next to a public beach which makes it a heavily trafficked area. Our shampoo and lotions were not restocked during our 5 night stay. The cleaning staff did not notice. The quality of these items left something to be desired too considering the room costs. The building is older and shows it. It could use some upkeep. We could not use the balcony next to our second floor room (203) since it was damaged and being supposed by some struts. I assume the columns have rotted out. We had a nice stay. Thanks.

Yelp
So I am traveling from Denver Colorado and I have had the pleasure to eat and grab one of their best margaritas and mojitos. Let me tell you, someone telling you about it doesn't do it justice. The experience is in incredible you have to go and check it out for your self the food is amazing and not only that it's humbling to see the owner walking around and saying hi to everyone there. there is so much history in the home that it's a must see if you are visiting keywest. not to mention the beautiful si sets you can experience from their restaurant.

Yelp
I can only give this spot 3 stars because we weren't here long enough. We stopped in for a mojito that was simply fabulous. The ocean view from the Oceanfront bar was amazing. The bartender was great and she gave us some recommendations for lunch spots. This is worth the stop in.
google avatar

Angie K.

Yelp
I really liked this place- hot water wasn't the best but whatever - I'm here to get drunk and shower second. Right next to beach cafe and private pool with waitress and food carts. On the ocean. Cool old rooms.
google avatar

Thor H.

Yelp
Two of us ordered a frozen margarita and one ordered a mojito. These drinks were supposed to be "the best", but were some of the most disgusting drinks we have ever had. We didn't even want to bother finishing them. The server was also ridiculous. There were only three drinks that we ordered. He confused the mojito as a margarita, called out the wrong drink name, and just put it in the middle, forgetting who had ordered the drink. Then he brings out a lime margarita when a mango margarita was ordered. Terrible service and terrible drinks--typical of an establishment with a prime location/view.

Yelp
Stay where the Presidents stay. This beautiful old mansion built by the Curry family and originally electrified by Thomas Edison himself the Southernmost House has welcomed five U.S. presidents. They are Harry Truman, Dwight Eisenhower, John Kennedy, Richard Nixon and Jimmy Carter. One of the nicest amenities is the owner who will welcome you with the same enthusiasm as he would a president. There is Florida's' highest ranking restaurant on the premises. Fantastic views, isolation and great food will make your stay memorable.
google avatar

Rob W.

Yelp
This is one of the most historic buildings in Key West and an outstanding example of turn of the century Victorian architecture. It was a private residence when I first started frequenting Key West. I imagine the costs of maintaining the building eventually made the decision to convert to a hotel. At any rate you have a museum quality building, a great pool and bar, perfect location with access to the water and Duval street.
google avatar

Yelp
Can't believe the history in these walls! Michael (owner) was the most gracious host and gave us a private tour. Can't wait to come back again!

Nancy E.

Yelp
We stayed at this Key West hotel for a week and it was a wonderful place to stay. The staff was friendly and engaging. The rooms were immaculate and the food and drinks at the Outdoor bar/restaurant were soooo good. The lobster pizza was the best we've ever had. Can't wait to go back next Year.

Yelp
We come south to avoid Dorian and the staff were all beyond accommodating, especially the front desk staff! We had a great room with a spectacular view. The restaurant on the property is a hidden gem. The location is perfect and we will be back!

Drew R.

Yelp
Great Lobster Pizza. The staff was awesome. Stopped by and did not want to leave but the storm Moved us on.

Yelp
This place is magical. First and foremost the GM, Nina, is a beautiful gem. She just returned after some time away (they called back from retirement!) and she brings such a peace and sense of servanthood to the property. From there, the restaurant and bar on the property are awesome: food and drinks are excellent, and service is chill and inviting. If you stay there, they treat you like family, and if you don't, they are grateful you came to visit so treat you awesome anyway! Finally, the room was way more than I imagined. I knew it was an old house so buffered my expectations; they were blown away! Tall ceiling, beautiful bathroom, gorgeous view, and very comfy bed. Thank you Southernmost House!!

Yelp
Within a month or so the management team has changed and they're going through a lot of legal problems because of the old Management group caused a lot of havoc on their web sites and reservations. Needless to say our stay with there was fantastic it was pouring down rain but Karl open the bar for us to enjoy a drink pool side. We will definitely be going back and hopefully the new management team can take care of all the old problems that was left in their hands. Also for general knowledge that the opening up the bar is noe openef to the general public if you want to use their pool there will be a daily fee but that's totally new and will be announced shortly after the New Year's. Very excited for them and the new management team!!!!

Yelp
The food here was phenomenal. The owner came out abs gave us some different sauces to try with our apps, and the pizza was off the chain. Get a 1/2 and 1/2 street Corn and lobster pizza. You'll be glad you tried.

Yelp
If you read my last review, it's easy to note my long love affair and obsession with this Southernmost House. After a delightful stay a year and a half ago, I booked here again. Sadly, my love bubble burst with this last stay. I chose a "courtyard view" this time since it was just a quick getaway. Figured at least I'd still be in the house and given I already got to have the beautiful view last time there was no need to do it again. When the forecast changed and it was supposed to storm all weekend, I e-mailed requesting "potentially" changing my stay for another day. I knew they had a policy in place not allowing it, but I figured I would try anyway. Wouldn't they want a return guest to have the best stay possible? I received a very impersonal and unprofessional, ill written (all in lower case and spaced unevenly) reply stating they don't " lift policy for weather" and that I was still "due to arrive." Signed, "Reservations Department." OK. Thanks whoever you are. Checked in at around 6pm on a Friday night. No one was at the desk, but we saw our reservation papers and keys behind the desk. Room 206. Familiar with the house (or so we thought) my husband took the key and headed up to the second floor to drop off our luggage. As he went up, the woman was coming back to the front desk so I stayed with her to officially check us in. Everything was going fine until my husband came back down and mentioned to her that he couldn't find Room 206. "Oh" she laughed, "that's because it's across the street." Blank stare. What???? What do you mean across the street? " Yeah, once you reserve online, you have to call and confirm your room because if not we choose a room for you based on your description" This wasn't happening, was it? My husband had to bring down all the luggage once again only to then take it across the street. Clearly, we were not pleased so she looked up to see if there was another room she could give us. She found one. One that was about $75 more a night. Unbelievable. No, we are not going to pay that much additional per night. That's ridiculous. Last I checked, I reserved at the Southernmost House, not "the house across the street from the Southernmost House." NOWHERE on the website or my confirmation does it say that there is a potential to stay across the street. NOWHERE. How can you even charge the same rate for that? Highly deceiving. BEWARE WHEN RESERVING. I know last time I wanted a specific room and I called repeatedly about it. I didn't think I needed to babysit my reservation this time around for a simple "courtyard room." As much as I've always loved this house, if it wasn't because I knew this weekend was sold out at most hotels on the key, I would have hightailed it out of there. We decided to go with it and not fight the situation anymore. What a mistake that was! The courtyard and fountain at the house across the street were as charming as the main house. You need a key to get inside through the main door. Up the stairs we went and into our room. It was clean and spacious, but definitively not as special as "the house." The bathroom was huge, that was a plus. The room felt extremely muggy upon arrival and all through our stay. The AC never cooled enough either. The best part? I thought at first it was cool that the room actually had a decent ocean view, even though I had reserved a courtyard view. The problem was that this property sits directly behind the Southernmost Beach cafe and Southernmost Hotel (different than Southernmost House). The constant restaurant plate clanking or whatever it is they are doing at the back of the restaurant was a nuisance, as were the rowdy restaurant patrons, as was the live band of the other hotel. The room also had a shared balcony (with the rooms next door) facing all of this. I wanted to remain positive, but I couldn't. The balcony would receive the occasional "whiff" of the back of that restaurant (as in NOT PLEASANT). Want breakfast in your room? Get yourself dressed and cross the street to pick up your coffee and goods and walk back again. Same goes for pool use and the questions from the front desk as to who we were (as if we were trespassing- we sure felt like we were). Lastly, it is now 2016 and there are still no blackouts covering the windows. It was awfully bright in there after sunrise. I guess no one wants to sleep in while on vacation? Alas, none of this is what I signed up for when I was dreaming of my upcoming Key West staycation at "my house." What a way to ruin our weekend and my outlook of this hotel. Thanks Southernmost! Signed, Guest Department

Yelp
I can't say enough about the Southernmost House! It has everything you could ever want in a hotel/resort. This place is amazing! It has a SUPER friendly staff, the place is immaculate and the food is delicious. I highly recommend anyone traveling to KW to stay here. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
My wife and I visited Miami followed by Key West for our honeymoon and were looking for a place to stay. We stumbled across - literally - Southernmost House. Located on famed Duval Street at the tip of the island and, I might add, the southernmost point of the continental United States (hence the name). Not a cheap stay that is for sure but the hotel rooms, the staff, the grounds and the service was 5 star all the way. Steps away from Ernest Hemmingway's house, the hotel was at one time a hang out for the famed author as well as more notorious guests such as Al Capone. Various sitting U.S. presidents have stayed there throughout the years as well. Do yourself a favour and talk to a staff member about the house's history if you have the chance. Try to resist the urge to sleep in, instead get up early and watch the sunrise while sipping a coffee. Breathtaking. Enjoy!
google avatar

Stephanie D.

Yelp
The Southernmost House is truly special! Stunning views, the staff are lovely, and there are more original Hemingway photos & letters than we saw at on our tour at the Hemingway house! The continental breakfast was delicious, very fresh & many options! Thanks Michael & staff for making my 1st trip to the keys that much more special!

Yelp
Beautiful! Like you'd see in a travel magazine! I didn't stay there, but stopped to look around as a was out & about in Key West. Just gorgeous! Very refreshing fruit infused water in the lobby~ great on a hot afternoon! Would be a cool place to stay!

Yelp
This is probably one of the most disgusting places for the money I have stayed- and I've traveled extensively in some not so great places. There was mold everywhere, the shower drain did not work, and the counters and refrigerator were covered in ants upon check in. Housekeeping service consisted of throwing a bag of towels at our door and nothing else. At about $600 a night - my advice is to spend the money elsewhere or just stay literally anywhere else and save the money as the cleanliness and service standards are probably the same here as what they would've have been at a hostile or some random person's van.

Yelp
I left west 10 years ago but come back to visit my daughter . She lives in a tiny efficiency . When I arrive my place wasn't ready . I was in complete tears as rentals are 500 to 800$ everywhere . I had driven 850 miles with no place to go . Micheal Halpern to the rescue . He owns the mansion and insisted on giving me a room that I could never afford . Needless to say , the tears of gratitude flowed . Despite being a former lawyer , LOL. He is the kindest most generous person you'll ever meet . Not to mention a key west icon . Stop by his seaside cafe in the mansion and he'll most likely give you an impromptu tour . He has no idea how many folks he helps . Thank you Michael from the bottom of my heart .

Yelp
From the most comfortable bed We have ever slept on, the gorgeous pool with ocean view, constant hospitality of the staff and Michael the owner stuffing our bellies with his amazing food during concerts we were all treated like royalty!! After spending several days with 23 other friends at this beautiful historic hotel we didn't want to leave!! Thank you again to the entire staff at The Southernmost House!!

Yelp
Hands down - this is the best hotel and restaurant in Key West! The views are incredible. The accommodations are five star. The staff are extremely conscientious and friendly. Staying here feels like home - if your home is a mansion in heaven.

Yelp
Our room was beautiful and the view of the water was awesome. The house is huge and they have breakfast available in the morning. They also have a small beach and a nice pool. We paid for the room ahead of time (200 per night via hotels tonight app) and when we arrived I let the concierge know that we had already paid for parking overnight. He said it was fine and gave us a pass "in case," little did I know that he charged us an extra 21.50 for parking. I called to check on it and they said they would remove the charge because we did not use their pass. They refunded it within a few days so that was great! Besides the parking I had no issues and I would definitely stay here again. The bathroom was awesome and the room was spacious+ we had a balcony that wrapped around the house.

Yelp
Dawn was more than happy to let us take photos, and gave us a great mini history lesson. We had great drinks at the bar, and watched the most amazing sunset. And the special treat was getting to meet Albert the rabbit. I truly believe he is a dog and he's very pet friendly. If your every in Key West, I suggest you book your bed and breakfast here

Yelp
The GM (Monroe) might as well be a mermaid. I've been trying to contact him since December. If you like these things stay here: 1. When leaving for dinner we asked the man at the front desk how we get back in the house. He told us the side gate would be locked, but the front gate and front door would be open. Then he mentioned he leaves at 11PM and as a security professional myself, I asked who watches the house at night with the gate and front door wide open. I received a blank stare and was told there isn't anyone and it's pretty safe around here. That was his way of re-assuring us, which made me very uncomfortable. How could there not be any type of security? Basically, anyone off the streets could walk in we learned. I'm hoping the gentleman at the front desk was misinformed because this doesn't provide guests with a sense of safety and doesn't seem like it would be in compliance with B&B standards. 2. After dinner we returned and attempted to settle in with the uneasy feeling of no one watching the property and the front door unlocked for whomever to do whatever. It wasn't long after that we were woken up by slamming doors until about 2AM. Then around 6AM we listened to someone vomit for about an hour followed by more door slamming. My fiancée can sleep through anything, but not the noise we experienced at the Sourthernmost house. We both couldn't wait to get back to her parents house to nap. It was really disappointing and frustrating given the purpose of a hotel is to provide sleeping accommodations and we weren't able to sleep in these conditions. 3. We asked for a late check-out in the morning in an attempt to get some sleep, which never happened because of the constant noise. A little after 11AM I returned to the room on the 3rd floor and I was locked out. After going all the way back downstairs I was given the master key to our room which also seemed very odd. I didn't try, but I hope the key wasn't able to open all other guests' rooms.

Yelp
My husband and I went here July 5-7 2018 for my birthday and our 1 year proposal anniversary. It was amazing and we will be back next year. John and Kayla were very accommodating and very nice. Our bartender Devin was amazing. Being a bartender myself I am very critical of others behind the bar and how they interact with ppl. Devin has that personality to make you feel very comfortable. If you don't know where to eat Devin will lead you in the right direction. Thank you for a wonderful mini vacation Southenmost hosts/hostess/ bartender Michael and Victoria Egan

Yelp
My wife and I are Keys locals and we decided to do a "stay-cation" for our anniversary last August. Key West can be humid this time of year so we decided to try the Southernmost House to catch the Atlantic breezes, and it turned out to be a great choice. The home has a storied history that includes millionaire wreckers, gangsters, bootleggers, writers and a couple of American Presidents. It's a beautiful property and with a steady breeze off the ocean it was relaxing sitting by the pool with a cold drink. There's a bar on the property and some great restaurants are a short walk away. But get five or six blocks in from the ocean and the breeze was blocked by the buildings and you'd feel the humidity. You definitely want the southern side of the island in the August. You find out a lot about a place when there's a bump in the road. There was a problem with our room the day before we were supposed to check in. They called to let us know and upgraded us to a larger room in the Lopez House (on the property). The staff was friendly and helpful and there's even Abbott the Rabbit who'll stroll over to say hi (especially if you bring him some Cheerios). We enjoyed it so much we've decided to make it a yearly event. I'd definitely recommend The Southernmost House if you're visiting Key West.

Yelp
If you crave history, and classic architecture by the sea, and a unique resting place in the hustle and bustle of Key West, then this inn is the ticket. It's like a time-capsule hotel. The phonograph gifted to the original owners by Thomas Edison, who installed the electric *himself*, graces the front parlor where guests are checked in. The staff is warm and friendly with exceptional customer service skills. Tranquility can be found within its many nooks and crannies. Fans of modern interiors or minimalism might be better off elsewhere; yes there are some areas of peeling paint and wood needing replaced, but this historic gem sits only feet away from the salty sea and has surpassed its 120th year. If I make it to 120, I hope I look half that good! The pool is beautiful and inviting; our visit was in the heat of mid-August and there was plenty of afternoon shade to enjoy before and after a refreshing dip. A perfect waterfront setting to boot. The outdoor bar/lounge area is in an open-air pavilion adjacent to the pool area and surrounded by shaded patios that lead to the cafe 'truck' and waterfront tables. Dining is al-fresco; we found it to be very comfortable even in August. We started with coconut mojitos, and then enjoyed panini Caprese and thin crust pizza fresh from the brick oven. An easy-going iguana meandered about while a flock of gulls (I think?) also enjoyed drinks *from* the pool (they were well-behaved and visited only briefly). Meanwhile the owner's pet rabbit enchanted two little girls near the covered porch. You step off Duval Street and into another realm, how refreshing! Did I mention the inside of the hotel is 'adults only'? Much appreciated especially when you are there to enjoy a romantic getaway. My husband is ultra picky and he was beyond impressed with this hotel; I booked it as a surprise. We got a great rate on a premier oceanfront room, mid $200-range. Go in August for off-season deals. I only wish that the front balcony could also be accessed by room 202; maybe an idea for a future renovation? I believe the owner's name is Mike; he is top-shelf, as is his son who runs the cafe. This is a family-owned venture and they make improvements little by little; I am so glad they are restoring this beautiful house to its 19th-century glory. We would love to go back again.

Yelp
We are here for 7 nights and it is my favorite place in Key West Our room is awesome with a view of the pool and ocean. The historic house is very well maintained and absolutely GORGEOUS! The Southernmost House staff are an Amazing crew and very helpful and attentive to your needs! The breakfast set up every morning complimentary with your stay is a huge spread with a wonderful variety for all. I would recommend this place to stay to everyone. It is a little piece of heaven on earth and I will definitely come again!

Yelp
I loved the Southernmost Hotel and will definitely book here again if I every head back to Key West. We booked a king room. It was almost completely separate from everyone else - a big plus - and had a huge terrace. I think it was technically on the 3rd floor. The decor was light, bright and had a great island feel to it. The hotel's location is perfect. On Duval without being too close to the action but just a couple minutes walk to the beach. The staff, for the most part were helpful. Check in took forever though (more than 20 minutes), and I felt like the one employee was taking his sweet ass time just to spite me. The main pool was great and had a decent bar attached. No problems with parking with the added bonus that it was free (not a lot of Key West hotels do free parking). Someone (Terry H) mentioned that this hotel attracts a "freak show" clientele, describing them as "odd and disturbed". WTF??? Maybe it was a special event or something because in no way did the people there seem to be out of the norm. Weird.

Yelp
I would give this place a 3.5 - I was really torn between 3 and 4. I think it could be a 4 when you know how to make a reservation to get the room you want and when the bar area by the pool is in not under construction. My husband and I stayed here in March 2016 for 4 nights while we were in Key West. The grounds were beautiful and the room was nicely appointed. We also liked the location - being on the South side is vastly quieter than the North side of Duval street. Reason for 3 stars: Unfortunately when we booked our "courtyard room" reservation they didn't mention that we'd be staying across the street in a room with zero view. I know they mention "Lopez House" on their website, but when you book I think they could be a little clearer that either a) all the main house rooms are booked and you'll definitely be somewhere in Lopez house or b) you should call to pick your room possibly well ahead of check-in (not clear how this is a fair system anyways when some rooms are definitely nicer than others, even within Lopez House). We also were the last to check in that day so we got possibly the "worst" room in the place. =/ On top of that the room they assigned us to had some sort of water problem that caused it to smell like mildew and there was literally a large puddle of water on the floor when we arrived. I am not sure how no one had noticed this as they said the room had "just been cleaned" (and it did smell like cleaning products - not in a good way). Housekeeping & maintenance took care of the issue, and they added a dehumidifier to the room after I asked them to do so. It still smelled mildew-y but it definitely helped. They also gave us a little bit of a discount for the trouble, again, after I asked for it. The service could have been more generous, but they were accommodating. Another bit of a downer was that there was significant construction on the property (sort of near the pool) while we were there. Also, the bar was never open as far as we could tell. The breakfast was definitely a nice way to start the day, but it was served a little early for us on vacation. I wish they had longer hours. And even when we got there on time they didn't always have enough of everything for all the guests, which I think is a pretty significant miss for a hotel that charges this much and purportedly includes breakfast. It was fully booked when we were there, but that maybe means they just need to up the food order? We really enjoyed the peaceful view, the quiet, and the pool tremendously. We also loved the size of the hotel - 18 rooms I think, including Lopez House. It felt busy and even crowded at breakfast (they probably need a few more outdoor tables) but the rest of the time it was really lovely. The lounge chairs and hammock beyond the pool were also very nice to have. We also really appreciated the "shuttle" (golf cart thingy) that drives up & down Duval Street. That's a huge plus for guests, especially in the Key West heat & humidity. I would probably give Southernmost House another visit if we return to Key West, but I'll request the room I want when I book for sure.

Yelp
Super long tedious check-in process also surprise charge about parking. Owner and bellman were super rude. Concierge was polite respectful and helpful. However, they refused to budge about the parking charge which again was not included in the listing.

Yelp
There are so many options to choose in Key West and I'm SO glad I chose to stay here. I read a lot of mixed reviews about the place. Mainly people saying they got put a cross the street in a different house. As soon as I booked I called to confirm that wouldn't happen. They actually put us in the outside Cabana #102 and it was perfect for us. It had a separate living area with a pullout, mini kitchen, and full size fridge. The bedroom and bathroom was in its own room. Very basic, vintage feel but that is true Key West for you. The location was perfect, staff is friendly, and to have free parking and free breakfast was more than enough. We will be back!

Yelp
Didn't stay at the hotel but was enticed by the sign outside that claimed to have the best mojitos and margaritas. We decided to swing by the outside bar and give the drinks a try. I ordered one mojito and one margarita with the intention to share between my travel partner and I. Both drinks were underwhelming at best and would argue the exact opposite of the sign's claim, these were some of the worst drinks we've tasted. The mojito was undrinkable and the margarita was overpowered with some type of sour mix. The true cherry on top was the $12 price per drink which was the highest we've encountered during on entire stay. Based on my experience it's almost offensive that they had the audacity to claim the best drinks in town.

Yelp
Went here for my wife's b-day and I was not disappointed. Great history on the house wonderful airy rooms. We were in room 202 and had a balcony view of the ocean and a private balcony that you can sit at on the side of the house. Continental boast was on. Vic was a great bartender . This is place very private and no kids which was fantastic. Met the owner , Michael who was very nice and accommodating. Definitely will be back

Yelp
If I was judging this place on pool area alone, it would be 5 stars. The pool here is amazing. This was my 4th trip to Key West and this place has the nicest pool of any other place I've stayed in Key West. La Concha has a pretty neat rooftop pool but this one still takes the cake. I probably would have given this place 5 stars if they hadn't pre-sold me a room they couldn't actually deliver. I booked this place over other places because I wanted a room with a ocean view. I got an email confirmation before our stay that confirmed our ocean view suite. When we came to check in though, we were not given that room. Instead we were put across the street in the Lopez House in room 108. Which, TECHNICALLY, has an ocean view. A very, very tiny one. Like, a literal sliver. Ken made it up to us though by refunding the cost of the ocean view suite and instead charged us for a courtyard view. So, at least there was that. And 108 is a VERY large suite, HUGE. It's a nice room with a big, walk in shower. I didn't get what I expected to get, but I can't complain that much because the room we did have was in fact very nice. But next time I come here, I am calling and speaking to someone and booking the exact room I want. I would recommend staying in room 108 though, if you don't care about room view. That room is really nice. Pro's: breakfast is included and it is delicious. They put out lots of fresh pastries and croissants. There is also fruit, yogurt, breakfast cereals and some hard boiled eggs. They let us have a late check out, which was VERY generous of them. The bar next to the pool is AWESOME. They make really good drinks that you can actually taste the alcohol in and they charge a reasonable fee for them. This is rare! Most hotel pool bars charge you an arm and a leg for drinks because they know you are a relatively captive audience. Major props to the bartenders, I think their names were Erika and Ashley but both women were great. It's at the quiet end of Duval street, an easy walk to anything nearby. We didn't even rent a car here, just took cabs to and from airport and pretty much walked everywhere we needed to go. They have a shuttle that runs up and down Duval street. It is a blue electric car and can seat 6. Look for it! The staff here are all very pleasant and nice. They will try to do whatever they can within their power to make you happy. KID FREE!!!!! I have a toddler, I love my toddler... but boy is it nice to stay someplace and not have any kids around! Don't book here if you have children you want to travel with, this place is for adults only. That is why this place has the best pool, because there are no children peeing in it. Cons: the aforementioned room booking problem, which is apparently a software issue they are working on fixing. Housekeeping doesn't always come. We had to remind them when we needed towels and more shampoo. The pool bar has some Key West regular patrons. They smoke. They smoke right at the bar. While I understand that is legal in Florida, it is still disgusting. I don't expect smokers to understand this, but smoking next to me is about as appealing as taking a shit next to me. It would be nice if the smokers could walk a few feet away from the bar to smoke but since they are within their legal rights I don't expect this to change. Tips: if you like a typical hotel room with blackout curtains and don't like the light in the morning to wake you up, this might not be the place for you. Our room was very bright, no ability to make it stay dark in morning. I'm used to getting up early, not an issue for me. If you want the free breakfast, get to it early. It seems to be a first come, first served and there are some greedy people who just come early and eat everything like it's going to be their only meal of the day. Take what you will eat, eat what you will take. And you do not need more than one pastry. Save some for others, please. The wi-fi sucks in Lopez House. Awful. Go sit by the pool if you want to use their wifi. All in all, YES. Yes, I would stay here again. Next time I am getting the room I want.

Yelp
We didn't stay here but they have a public bar by the pool right on the ocean and was not only beautiful but the mojitos were the best in town! I would recommend stopping by for a drink and enjoying the view. One of my favorite spots in Key West!
