Yelp
Any business, and I do mean ANY business that has either;
A) Minimum charges for Eftpos or,
B) No Eftpos facility,
immediately gets added to my list of places never to visit again. Now, maybe an exception can be made for the little corner shop that has to compete with the likes of Coles and Woolies and needs to cut costs, but the MRCC has its venues down south, in the Swan Valley, a store in Hillarys (I think it's still there) and a big one in the city (I know that's still there), so these guys aren't short of a couple of dollars.
Now, my girlfriend and I went and had lunch out in the swan valley, then decided to visit here for a bit of dessert. Got a couple of treats, some ice cream and milkshakes (fatties, I know!). I can't remember how much it cost, but with the stuff I took home as well for later, it was around $50 or more. Paid on my card, as I usually do. There's not exactly any ATM's in the Swan Valley.
So we're sitting there, eating our ice cream and I see they have some chocolate milk, which I'm a huge fan of (big kid, I know). It's $4.95 for a 1L bottle, which is ludicrous, but it's a treat, right? How often do I come out to the valley? So I get to the counter and I'm told that there's a minimum $5 charge for Eftpos transactions, despite paying $50 on other stuff 15 minutes prior. I'm told I'll have to buy something else to get the transaction up over $5. So, I don't want to make an argument with a 15 year old girl when I know it's store policy, so I just tell her not to worry about it.
This is more a rant about the fact that this is 2013! Minimum transactions shouldn't exist! Especially in a company that can afford the merchant fees (obviously!). I know it's not the fault of the workers, just the management who make decisions. But I hope they get the message here: If I've encountered this issue, how many other people went to buy that one extra chocolate bar for the kids and were told they couldn't? I'm sure the extra profit from those sales would make up for the merchant fees. Also, at $4.95 a liter for chocolate milk, which is half as much as I'd get if I buy Brownes, also a WA company, they can bloody well pay for the transaction if you ask me!
I'm boycotting any place with minimum transactions and no Eftpos facilities. Who's with me?
Greens & Co in Leederville, you're next!
