The Market Hotel

The positive: perfect location. The negatives: Ripped bedding. (Photo) Tired old rooms (need renovation) Complaint about noise in room above (it’s 3 am I’m still awake). Called reception they apologized but nothing was done. Heating can’t be used (It’s January and 0 degrees) We are freezing with bedding for summer. This is room 301 avoid! 200 euros per night for this?! Nothing in the room - no mini bar, not even a bottle of water but you can buy one from the bar for over 5 euros for not even 1 litre. One set of towels for 2 guests?! I am someone who never gives bad reviews as I know how hard it is to run a business but it’s a hotel. The core business is to ensure a clean room, quiet at least after midnight, a poxy bottle of water which costs less than 1 euro in the supermarket to procure and fresh clean bedding. Shame on you! Avoid!

Very nice hotel right in the centre of the city. Helpful and friendly staff. Very well appointed and modern rooms. Spotlessly clean. ||Excellent breakfast at a very nice restaurant.||The only draw back might be the "open" bathroom, but the sliding door provides some privacy.

I needed a hotel in Groningen to get a decent night's sleep between work events. I had no particular expectations and was very pleasantly surprised! The room was fabulous with a beautiful ensuite bathroom. The wooden sliding door separating the bathroom from the bedroom is part of the decor. The hotel has a roof terrace with an amazing view across the city. The breakfast selection is very good - one can eat vegan without having to ask any favours of the staff. The whole look and feel of the place is eco-friendly and guest friendly! I now hope I need to return to Groningen soon!

Not only remarkably comfortable, but with excellent customer service. I left my AirPods in the room, and the team found them, checked everything, and shipped them back to me in Brussels — quickly and efficiently in a safe box :) And last but not least: the best buffet breakfast ever. Thank you!

The stay was really great. The hotel is located straight in the central square, allowing for walking/cycling expeditions with ease. If you travel by car, parking is at the Forum just next door.|The hotel is very well decorated and in very good condition.|Rooms are spacious, pristinely clean with comfortable soft beds. Nice bathrooms and good shower.|Good breakfast altogether where the only thing I missed was a bread toaster. Don’t try the croissants or you’ll end up eating too many of them…|Staff was always welcoming and nice.||The only improvements I’d suggest on a hotel at this price point is that you should have a bottle of water in the room and a stocked minibar. Also, temperature regulation did not work: my room was quite cold and the AC was in cold mode such prevented me for getting 100% comfortable.

It's a true 8 out of 10. Amazing staff and a lovely location are it's big selling points. The amenities, though we didn't use them, are impressive and I'm sure the target demographic would enjoy those. There was some shabbiness in the rooms though, cleaning could be done more thoroughly. It seems like what you're paying for is the location, if it's a little overpriced. The breakfast is absolutely fantastic though and we didn't have a chance to try any lunch or dinner offerings. The staff spoke excellent English and German if you're in need of those.

The Market Hotel is ideally located in the vibrant centre of Groningen. It's very comfortable, with great service, comfortable beds and lovely soft pillows, sparkling clean bathrooms and very well laid out. Self-sesrvice breakfasts are generous and very tasty. Food in the restaurant is imaginative and high quality, and the serving staff are highly professional. I have only one criticism: the in-room air-conditioning is far too warm for sleeping under the thick doonas provided, and it's impossible to reduce the individual room temperature below 19°C. It would be great if the hotel administration and could review the in-room thermostat capability to allow wider individual needs to be accommodated.

I love this hotel, its location and the rooms with the view of the plaza. I would not make the mistake of booking in the twin bed room with no city view (definitely disliked the darkness and view of the side building) but the nicer facing the main square and with a bathtub are superb. Wish the reception had recognized I have been here multiple times (like a “welcome back” and not having to fill all my info again…) but still love this place. Breakfast is one of my faves and glad the restaurant was restored to its original beauty.
